New third-party battery issues - Samsung Infuse 4G

I just got a new battery, a fliptroniks 2000mAh. I put it in my phone and plugged the charger in now it shuts off and then the screen flashes on and off the beginning of the charging battery sequence (the circle of dots). I let it sit thinking it would charge but it just flashes the circle of dots on and off. It never did this with the original battery I have.
I am running BeanStalk Build 4.3.05 - MTD - Android 4.3 - 8/19/2013 with the 7/26/2013 GAPPs and have CWM 6.0.3.7. I tired charging the battery while in CWM and it does the same thing.
I've tried searching xda/google and haven't found a good solution except for to go back to using the original battery or use an external charger. Both aren't really a useful solution for me. I really need a longer lasting battery since my original one is awful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I already did that. Thanks for the suggestion. I don't believe my issue is that, since this is only happening with the new battery I just bought. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the battery or android. I can try and record what it does when so there is a visual reference. I'll try adding it this weekend.
Any other suggestions?

trying to determine if the problem lies in hardware of software(os) is simple.
try the hardware on stock gb unmodded and then compare it's behavior to the custom rom
when ever you get a glitch (sound/video/bt/signal/wifi) etc..flash it back to stock and you can make the determination yourself
gl

Well I just flashed back to stock and the battery does the same thing. I was also sent another one and it does exactly the same. >.< I really don't think I could get two bad batteries in a row but anything is possible. What else could cause this?

possibilities:
1. bad usb charge port
2. bad charge cable or power block
3. corrosion anywhere along the power line
4. power button sticky or failure
suggestions:
1. change usb cable
2. change usb charge block
3. open phone and clean up suggested areas
if that doesn't work consider:
1. sending back to manufacturer for repair
2. alternative repair -mobiletechvideo, repairuniverse
3. give the phone away
4. sell the screen
5. get a new phone

I'm starting to think this battery series just isn't working correctly with my phone (possibly not working with any Infuse). I have no problem charging my original battery that came with the phone with any charger I have. Has anyone else had issues with third party batteries? I didn't think going to a 2000mAh battery would be this much of a hassle.

Aftermarket batteries

So this morning I woke up to my phone refusing to power up again, and also have lots of random shutdowns that require me to pull battery before powering back on. I have narrowed it down to the only culprit causing this being an aftermarket extended battery as my oem battery, although it was dead, powered the phone up and accepted a charge via the charge indicator staying on instead of blinking. Anyone else experience this?
Nonsense!

What battery are you using? Is it knocked off ones from ebay?
You can try and buy the oem battery, mugen or chichi batteries.
OROROR its possible that Ur having random issue that some people are having resulting many bricked g2s. There is a thread in general section called e:log/ something like that
Mine was bricked compeletely
Was running cm7 fine for about a week
Then it was cuasing random freezes and had to pull battery to get it working again
Now careful with what you do or u will brick urs like mine
Can u connect to the charger and open hboot or access to recovery?
If you do using adb reflash recovery..
Thisis what I did and ended up with bricked g2
I was tried of getting random freezes(I never overclocked it)
Booted into recovery did factory reset and got e: log/recovery or something like that( buch of em)
Then I flashed new rom
Rebooted got stuck at htc logo for 20min
Pulled battery...it never turned back on. No hboot or recovery no adb nothing.

Aftermarket batteries are often cheap knockoffs, and are infamous for failing quickly. I've seen a post on here by a person that purchased 3 from eBay, and all 3 failed within 2-3 weeks.

+1 if your really looking for extended after market batteries go with chichi or mugen. People are getting great results. They are a bit pricy though.

Its not non sense lol. It happened to me, no need to panic, leave the battery in unless your CWM is updated to the latest version whereas you don't boot into recovery while charging.
If its updated to the latest CWM:
1. Put back your OEM battery or any other battery that will boot up your phone.
2. Go to ROM Manager and go to a previous recovery version before the the fix for charging and not going into recovery.
3. Let it flash, and then pop back in your extended battery.
4. Plug in your USB to your computer. Let it go into recovery.
5. Type "adb devices" your phone should appear.
6. Then type "adb reboot"
There it should be fixed now. If your CWM isn't to the latest, you can skip the flashing to older ones.
Lol the nonsense is my signature on my phone, meaning my phone is a non-sense phone lol
Its been working fine all day, just drops calls in the same area so no different. I haven't tried the am battery since, but when it was plugged in the orange charge led was blinking, and would act differently when power button was pressed. Put oem battery in and no power, but the battery was dead. After ten min it powered and booted right up.
Mostly I am concerned and made this thread because my previous g2 bricked and wondering if the battery messed up volatge or something because the phone got a little hot before it locked up and bricked. I was reflashing roms and I did it 20 times before and never had a problem so its not like it was my first time. Totally weird.
Nonsense!
Yeah it happened to me like twice. I just pray that when I have to do a battery pull when I'm out it this problem doesn't occur lol. Well yeah the orange light blinks cause of the new CWM. If it was on the old one with no fix, it would stay orange and go into recovery. At first I thought the same until I put a different battery back in and booted, so I thought the battery was now defective, so I went back to eBay and purchased 2 more. After a week of the purchase I tried those adb commands and it fixed it. So now I have 3 extended batteries lol, it kinda messed me up since I had to pay for a new one .
Just wanted to say after almost a week on the oem stock battery since my failure, I have not had issues with my phone shutting down, random rebooting attempts, or a need for a battery pull. No pulling the phone out of my pocket and it is blank dead and useless unless I pull battery.
I'm assuming that the battery was my problem. How? I don't know unless it was a voltage issue? If anyone wants my am battery to just mess with it, you can have it for free just pay shipping.
Nonsense!
You can buy 1450mah Droid Incredible 2 battery or the Evo Shift's 1500mah battery.
EDIT: Just got the Sprint Evo Shift battery in. It will need to be modded and sanded down a bit. I was in a hurry so I just sanded it down with the sticker still on it.. after about 5 minutes of that, some clean up with goo gone and alcohol, I have a working 1500mah battery straight from HTC.

<Help> Dock not charging

Tried the following methods=
Cold boot
Switching from PC USB to Asus charger
Switching from other manufacturer's charger to Asus
Freeze the charger(???)
Adaptor charge the tablet in good order, but it doesn't seem to be charging the doc.
The dock is always blinking rapid amber led when plugged in and the adaptor just get really hot.
Guys, any advise? Warranty expired, it gonna hurt my wallet to send in for repair ;(

If you let the dock drain 100% it sometimes encounters problems. If you open up the dock you will see a little switch. Flip it back and forth and it should start charging again

Got the same problem as the OP - Dock not charging and even the dock option is greyed out within the Settings - Interface - Launcher option.
My question is - Is there any software command that would simulate the flipping of the switch using ADB etc? Would not want to open the dock as yet..
It works properly when I attach it to the tablet, only problem is that it doesn't charge...Any pointers would be more than welcome!
Am on 4.1.2, CM10 2012 12 08 Unofficial
Thanks!
Try a cold boot, it fixes lots of these problems. Hold the power and vol down buttons till you see 2 icons on the screen, then release the 2 buttons and let it boot. Try it while docked and it should start charging again.

Yes, already tried that (it says cold booting linux and all..) , I tried it while docked and with the charger in the dock..but still the same orange blinking light..Dual Battery Widget also doesnt detect the dock..though I can type with the keyboard and all that stuff..
Guess you should open it up then, and try to switch trick as I doubt there's an ADB command for a hardware switch inside a "third party device" since it's not part of android but really an extension that probably requires drivers and/or kernel modules outside of stock android. If there is, it's probable it's not documented if it was added by Asus for Asus. While it's opened up inspect the battery for obvious signs of wear/damage. Dual battery widget didn't work for me on some ROMs (can't remember which exactly but only the tablet battery was detected) but recent CM10 should have a separate icon with a dock through the battery icon while docked.
You can try the dumpsys utility from ADB, which prints out battery info so you may find something, but you can't manipulate data at all:
adb shell dumpsys battery
Also, did you try wiping the battery stats in recovery? If you have that option...
And lastly, lots of people are suggesting the freezer trick. To me that would be last resort but it looks like it's working for some people it seems.

Thanks for your detailed analysis and useful suggestions - just reflashed the CM10 8th Dec UNofficial rom y'day only and then recovered all the apps etc..But your idea of wiping out the battery stats didn't cross my mind! Should be there under advance I guess within recovery..(Have touch based 5.9 or something)
I would let the charger plugged into the dock and then try again the cold boot trick to see if that resolves the issue..Else would see if I have the option of wiping battery stats within recovery..
I am currently on vacation and hence donot want to open up the Dock here, freezer trick while harmless but I fail to understand logically how that would help Nevertheless would try it out if the above doesnt work..
Would report on the updates tomorrow (after 12 hours or so.)
The freezer trick is an oldie but a goldie. I used to do it with old hard disks that had certain problems and it worked in some cases, but usually you had an hour or so to salvage the data then it would die for good...
The logic behind it is that cold contracts the parts while heat expands them. So if it's a bad solder or something alike, the cold can temporarily fix it. But as I said, it would be a last resort for me and I'd triple seal it in ziplock bags to make sure no humidity can get in or out.
Let us know how it works out!

I am actually inclined to open up the keyboard and flip the damn switch now!
Also I did try cold booting (as the tablet had charged to 98%) and also wiping out the battery stats, but no change in situation still.
Opened the keyboard, flipped the switch but still no change..Orange light just keeps on blinking approximately every second..
Am at a loss to understand what could be the problem - the dock and tablet were bought in Sep last year and the dock has hardly been used (probably not for more than 20-30 hours in the last 14 months or so..)
Anyway I havenot closed the keyboard completely, would flip the switch again after sometime and see if that changes the charging behaviour in any way!
Anyone who has had success with dock charging issue after flipping the switch?
Update on previous post - Suspecting that it could be a software issue as well, I flashed an old Megatron Rom (based on CM9), and tested the switch again.
Switch off - Only EeePad's battery is shown
Switch On but no charger - Dock's battery is shown (symbol of battery + Keyboard) BUT with a red exclamatory sign, along with the normal EeePad's battery
Switch On and with Charger - Dock's battery is shown (symbol of battery + Keyboard) with charging sign , along with the normal EeePad's battery
So definitely an improvement as compared to CM10!!
Wondering if I should search for a Stock (Rooted ?) Firmware and flash that..Or probably just a firmware for the dock (does that exist?)
I'm pretty sure there is firmware for the dock (I think you see it in the settings while docked) but I don't think it's available, nor does any rom actually change it they just "use" it. For sure the best thing to try would be stock now with dual battery to make sure it works properly. Easy flasher will get you back to stock, provides root and can install different recoveries for you (there's plenty of others but this one seems easiest and worked best for me).
I'm thinking you're right on both accounts: the switch did work and there's a software issue somehow causing this. I've seen stranger things with custom roms. Glad you're making progress!

Thanks a bunch Lethe6 !! I have downloaded the Easy Flasher (V 0.8.3 Stable) and am downloading the Stock Rom from ASUS WebSite (300MB)..Its a slow connection here, so I would be able to report back by tomorrow only..But I am optimistic that Stock Rom should resolve the issue with the charging!!
Thanks once again for providing the links, I would report back tomorrow on the progress!
UPDATE on prev post - Flashed the latest stock from ASUS Website ..It does show the Dock Battery BUT at 0%
And from what I read here, I seem to have run out of lack as apparently there is a design flaw wherein there is no way a dead battery can be revived!!
(I ran out of warranty in September but as I wasn't using the dock really at that time, I didn't bother to look into the issue at that time..)
That really sucks But it must be a particular model because mine has went to 0% numerous times and I've never had that issue before. Did you try the freezer trick? At this point if it's supposedly completely dead, might as well give it a shot. Also some people suggest plugging it into USB for 5-12 hours, the trickle charge may help getting it going again. If the tablet is not 100% charged the dock won't start to charge either, so try just with the dock then try with both. Also check this out, sometimes strange fixes are the best.
You can probably find a refurbished dock for under 100$ during the holidays online, if you really need it.
Out of curiosity which series dock do you have? Mine is a B70 purchased in UK last September..(Tablet is also having a S/N starting with B70 and SBK v2)..
I tried the other fix as well that you mentioned - that is using a different USB charger, to my surprise without the tablet attached, there was no light on the dock. but if I attached the tablet, then orange light was blinking much quicker! So seems like the dock is quite sensitive wrt the current supplied through the USB cable..(Guess all USB chargers have typically 5V output or something?)
On using the original ASUS USB Charger, light blinks slower (with or without the tablet attached)..Have left the charger plugged in again ..in the faint hope that some trickle charge is able to revive the dock's battery!
And no, haven't tried the freezer trick as yet
Would probably contact ASUS UK once I am back in UK..
My "mobile dock" version (you can see it in settings -> about tablet -> mobiledock) is EP101-0213 and my tablet is SBKv2 C30 purchased in Canada 6 months ago.
There's a nice article explaining voltages and amps in relation with phones (which applies to almost any mobile device), however from what I read, the Asus wall charger has a different pinout for USB and feeds the power differently. I'm sure you can find the exact specs here somewhere, I saw people showing how to make your own charger.
But assuming you're right and it's sensitive to the current (Bad design? Cheap parts?) then it's possible that simply replacing the wall charger would solve it. I bought a spare one to leave at work for 8$ on ebay and it works nicely so far!
Just out of curiosity.. did you/can you try to connect it to another power source? Like a different house? I once had a problem with a charger that there was too much noise on the electrical system and the charger couldn't keep a decent current output because of the variations, so the phone would say it was charging but it wasn't; tested later at several locations and it was working. I know it's a long shot but hey at this point...
Thanks! Would have a look at the link you provided..Meanwhile I also came across this link which kind of indicates that using a 12V 1A charger fixes the dead battery! Would probably order the relevant stuff from ebay and see how it pans out! Just crossing my fingers at this point really and have also left the charger plugged in to see if it does trickle some charger into the dock!
After flashing the latest stock rom (instead of CM9 or CM10), I also have same version for my dock ending in 213..
Finally apparently it seems that USB Debugging off/on also seems to affect the dock's battery as per the various other charging related threads on XDA..
Thanks for all your suggestions - you keep me motivated to try out various things and I am learning new things as well !
PS : Forgot to mention that I had already tried a different power outlet (i.e. in UK) and now another one in a totally diff country!

Battery Issue

In the last few weeks i've been having major battery problems with my phone.
The percentage seems to be jumping around so it will show 100% very quickly when charging then quickly drop after not much usage. It always seems to reboot around 20% then I struggle to get it back on and when I do it will show 4% etc.
I've tried resetting the battery stats and two different roms but no luck. Is this likely a hardware issue? If so, could I get it looked at under warranty even though i've unlocked it? It's very frustrating...I like this phone but can't put up with this for much longer and if I have to replace it I might as well just get a nexus 4...
try calibrate your battery.
discharge it, and recharge it while the phone is off for few hours.
Whenever I power off it boots into cwm so can't calibrate. Does twrp behave like this as well?

Just switch to TWRP and indeed, it stays off ifyou plug the charger in. I'll try calbrating...
Even after calibration my issue still persists. The rom starts rebooting like crazy as the power drops down to 40% 'ish, the phone is becoming unusable. Is there anything else I can try to debug this? Different radio? ROM? replacement battery?
Have you opened the back of your phone? That really sounds like you have a connection issue with the battery but being that it's a little cable and not pins sort of seems unlikely but possible.

Well I've actually ordered a replacement battery off eBay so I'm going to try that.
What I've noticed is I can charge it to 100% with the phone off. If I turn it on and run it down to say 60% then put it back on charge with its powered on, it says its fully charged after about a minute. Clearly its not charged....

Every time I he to 40% it starts rebooting...above that its fine...strange...

Phone won't power on, but it can charge.

Hello fellow XDA members.
I've been with my beloved Nexus S for a little over a year now. We've been through thick and thin. Until now.
My power button is broken (along with a lot of other nexus s users that I found out by research), but I was able to bare with it by maneuvers with my software (volume rocker wake). It would act as if it's being pressed down constantly, so it would automatically power on when a battery is inserted.
However, this situation is different. I've done research on this one too, and it also seems common. While using my phone as normal (around 20% battery), the screen just turned black and the phone crashed. Seemed like a common kernel issue. So I battery pull, and the phone won't power on.The charging animation still appears if I connect it to a charger or USB.
As I woke up for work the next morning, I brought my phone along with me. It turned on at a random time while it was in my hand, as it would always do if I were to insert a battery. The phone worked for about a week until the same problem happened again.
I've tried rebooting it with ADB, but it's not recognized. I've tried inserting the battery while it's connected to the charger. Nope. Simultaneous button presses, pounding the power button, you name it. I've also tried a different battery, so I know it's not a battery issue.
I have suspicion it has to due with Jellybean, as several other users experience a problem similar to mine, but much more severe (no charging animation).
I'm running Pacman Rom v 18 with Marmite 7.0 Kernel.
Please, for the love of the Lord, can someone please aid me in finding a solution or inform me of a known one?
Thanks!
Please anybody? I really need a solution ASAP! Thanks again!
I'm sorry for the excessive bumping, but I'm just extremely desperate at this point. I cannot afford to go another day without my phone as I'm losing too much business. Does anyone know a solution or anything to try?
When its on the charger does the screen show that it is charging? Or is it just a blank screen and you "assume" that it is charging ?
Could be the kernal, have you flashed another rom ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, it shows the charging animation, so there's life.
I think its the kernel and the rom combo. But the fact is that I can't even access the phone right now. Any solutions? And my power button is broken.
Hmm so there is no way to access recovery?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
There was no way. But the phone turned back on by itself last morning again. I instantly changed my ROM to RasbeanJelly and Matr1x 24.5 CFS. Let's see if the problem comes back.
Thanks anyway, and ill post back here for updates!

Battery doesn't hold charge

Hello, my Optimus 3D P920 battery acts very weird. It doesnt hold charge, it shows as charging but after i unplug, it says low battery. I bought a replacement battery and still the same. Bought an external battery and it still acts the same. Today it charged up and stayed full up until i restarted the phone. Then it showed 2-3 percent of charge. Battery calibration didnt work. Could it be software that is faulty?I'm on 2.3.5, so should i update to official ICS?Any suggestions?

How long does they work with this 2-3%? An hour? 2h? 3h? 10h?
Do you have stock ROM or custom?
When did this start? What did you do before you got this for first time?

Okay flashed WKPARKS bootloader, flashed kernel you provided, but battery is still on X. What does this mean: P920/SU760: revert charging mode support to fix 0% battery (v1.21) in WKPARKS thread. Is there any option to revert battery usage or something in the new 1.21 version?
EDIT: by moving one of the metal pin things on the battery connector i managed to turn on the phone and it showed me 100% battery. Then i turned off the phone and played with the pin a lil bit more. Then again it showed 0 percent after turning on. So i guess the problem is in the battery connection port as the middle pin is faulty i guess. Now i need to purchase the whole small connector port and solder it. so far i didnt see any sites selling these charging ports separately. If anyone finds it, drop me a link. Amd thank everyone of ya for the help
I have the same problem, and a search on the internet learned me that many people have this problem.
I'm on 4.04 (official 30a rom).
When I load a battery with another O3D, then it's on 1% immediately when I put it in my phone.
And then when I put it back in the other phone, it starts to load there as well again as if it's really on 1% again.
I can only use my phone now while it's on a cable.
None of the possible solutions that I found on the web work.
It seems to be a hardware problem. It got worse over time. First it only loaded, and then emptied quickly. Now it doesn't load at all anymore.
I'm having this issue too. A way to work around it that works for me:
When charging.
1. Go to the hidden menu (3845# *920#).
2. Choose port settings.
3. Unplugg charger.
4. Select CP USB.
5. Press OK.
Now the phone shows 100% battery and you can use it untill the battery dies.

My phone is on 'No Retention"
When I played around with this option "AP USB" also seemed to work.
(work = back to original failing battery charging status)
---------- Post added at 08:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:35 AM ----------
I fixed this problem by screwing the battery connection up...
I used a screwdriver to push and pull a bit with the battery connection points on my phone, now it's a bit messed up and bended etc.... but it works...
My original intention was to replace the connection with a working one (my father's old O3D's battery connection) but I wasn't able to get it out in the proper way. (did not really know what the proper way was). So halfway when I figured that I wasn't really pulling it out but more like pulling it apart, I quickly tried to see if it was still working, after pushing things a bit back in shape, and it was!
Lucky me!
I'm not suggesting anybody to follow the same approach, and if you do I'm certainly not responsible for it.
but that's what worked for me.
All I fear now is that it will work for a while... and then something will move again, and it'll be the end of the phone anyway
But if I can use it till the S4 Active is released, then I'm a happy guy!
When i choose AP USB it says "slow recharge" on charge!? And by choosing "no retention" there is no change! Whatz about the other choices? AP UART. ..?

I tried them all, I think.
I'm on 'slow charge' if I'm not using the official LG cable. It still seems to charge pretty quick then.
Just for the record: my 'fix' only lasted for a few days.
At least it showed to my problem was with the connector between battery and phone. I'm going to see if I can get it replaced.
Only one solution is flash original bootloader from no for sale phone, but you can get only froyo e non imei on it but charge battery and keep all of charge in normal mode.

On CMW make full backup of system on sd,copy on pc hdd for future,on sd in backup file nandroid.md5 open in notepad delete all of content and save, copy and overwrite boot.img from this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35429965#post35429965 last reply
advance restore from ext sd ,restore only boot.img.
reboot
the system if you on other of froyo release no start up but if you connect charger it will charge 100% of bater and hold them, only for test, after you can copy and overwrite the boot.img with backup from your pc and will be on same situation become backup.
For this moment last solution stay on froyo without imei because when you downgrade you can't flash baseband so no net coverage on it.
I wait for someone ho can upload original fw version v08i to get work all of thinks in froyo.last chance.
If you have backup of your first firmware you are lucky.
Hi. I've had the same problem with my p920. Tried everything what I've found on the net, but nothing did helped. Day before it happened I've restored my phone to stock because of the screen(the bottom of the screen was unresponsive). The best luck that I've had 2 months of warranty left. So they changed the whole front of my phone. And main board. Battery was the same. I think yours case is the same like mines. Hardware failure.
