Funny if I google 'Asus unlock tool unknown error', the first two results point to about a dozen relevant threads here and on the Transformer forums...

Well Im trying to do it 10 times every hour still no result... But gotta keep trying. Found sine hold threads about it being something with the mac adress/serial that ASUS doesnt have in theyre system. Tried contacting theyre support but no answer yet. And as Im rooted theyre properly not gonna help. ASUS have wrote that RMA would fix it but only in united states/Canada. So not really any help

Still havent got it to work. As I guessed ASUS wouldnt help me. So this is getting nowhere I guess

Sorry to hear that, mate.
Do a search on unlocking and the consumer protection laws of your country. I seem to remember something that people in the EU are much better off than we in the US.
I don't want to get you hopes up, but I dimly remember reading something that you can demand from Asus to make it unlockable because it's your tab and you can do with it whatever you want if you live in the EU.
Maybe our Dutch, German and French members can chime in here?
Good luck.

I read alot of posts saying in Denmark(my country) that the guarentee is only from the seller. And the manufactore doesnt have to do anything to u. Idk... Well I gave up, this is properly my last ASUS tablet I will ever own...

[Q] New Eee Pad Transformer Owner Look For Root

Hello everybody! Like the title says, I just got my TF101 2 days ago. I immediately came to look for the rooting process but not being very savy in the whole ADB process I was intimidated quite a bit. I ran into the whole B70 deal so I did a little research on XDA/Google and I have a B80 model. Am I to understand that I should just wait for an updated root process or am I missing something here?
Ya you will just have to wait. if you can exchange it for a b60 then you can get on with it but if not you will have to wait. b80 just means it was made in august
Hey Hunter,
Same boat as you. I must have sunk 6 hours into trying to root it until I finally realized that was the problem I was running into (made me feel like such a huge n00b-c4nn0n lo). Basically, the nvflash method fails for me everytime and I always get an error that says something like "failed to write to USB". Similar for you?
My girlfriend got a Transformer today that was still a B50, not sure what is going on in my area but everywhere else has new units in!

Is it true that i will loose OTA updates?
I just got used to the honeycomb interface so im not in the mood of installing a custom ROM yet, i just want to have root in order to install certain apps that requiere root.
Thanks in advance!
You will loose OTA updates but the interface won't really change, it'll just speed up!
Yup exactly the same. Has anyone heard anything new?

Firmware update failed

I just purchased this tablet today and quickly rooted it. I've since tried to upgrade my firmware and its failed 3 straight times. It'll reboot and begin the update, then fail midway thru, leaving an android dude with an exclamation mark. Then it boots back up and gives a message that the update failed. If anyone can help me figure this out I'd greatly appreciate it.

Have you done the build prop tweak? Have You installed any of the themed apps? Have you removed any of the original files in /system?
For me, no, no, and no. All I've done is give it root.

I don't mind the questions heck I just appreciate the help. With root I've used AdFree and Root Explorer to change the stock email/exchange apk's for the hacked ones to bypass security. Nothing else.

Flash the .17 blob (and probably do a factory reset for good measure) and reroot. Don't touch anything else, and do the update. That should get you where you want to be. A lot of hassle, but I think it's the only way. You definitely don't need to return your tablet.

How to root the latest JB

Hi, sorry for noob question, but what is the easiest way to root the latest firmware? I don't want to unlock bootloader.
Downgrade to ICS? Aslo I would like to save my data (game progress etc.).
I read a lot of tuts, but I ever don't know what to do.
You can't downgrade. At this time, the only way is to unlock the bootloader and flash root in.

I have the same question, I have a stock firmware, locked (I guess), updated to the latest version.
Can I use the following guide?

I have installed USB drivers.

Sure you can IMO
You can do it on first.
Click to my sig, goto my index for tf300 and you will find the Asus unlock tool
But is it necessary? Can I root without unlocking?
As I said, if you are on JB bootloader, you cannot root without unlock your device...for the moment

In JB i can't root if i'm not unlocked. Is that "forever" or a "just for now" thing? Because ASUS's unlock tool is giving me the error that it can't connect to the server. Should I just ditch my tf300 now?
I have the same issue about this error message and I search how is possible to unlock my tab with different method. Someone have idea?
Thanks

I think it's "just for now" and they're going to develop one tool for JB 4.2. Don't forget that this tool has been built in first for ICS version.

[Q] How Long Does It Take To Unlock Bootloader?

registered on the asus website and now i'm waiting for the unlock tool to work. how long after registering should it take before i can unlock?
I didn't register at all and unlocking was done in 2 minutes. Just downloaded .apk and run it.
Maybe you have problem with serial/MAC. Check forum.

Unlocking bootloader

Whenever I try to use the Asus unlocked tool to unlock my device it just says" an unknown error happend" i''ve been searching on this and couldn't find any thing helpful, I tried a tons of times over some weeks, haven't had any luck. Tried to factory reset it for then trying again. Tried to write to Asus ans they said they didn't offer support on this topic. Tried on different networks. So my question is now... Are there any other way than using the Asus tool?

No - you have to use the Asus Unlock tool, there is nothing els (Odin is for Samsung) - what is your objection to it?

There are 2 reasons I'm aware of for it to fail:
1. Your firewall/router doesn't allow the port. I have seen people fix it by tethering to their phone, etc
2. Your Mac address is not registered to the mother board serial number in the Asus database. Call them, get on their VIP site and tell them to fix it. Lots of people have had success.

If you contact them, I would not tell them that you want to unlock. Some users have been successful anyway, but some ran into a wall of: We do not support unlocking. Seems to depend on which rep you talk to.
Tell them you can't register for device tracker and can't get OTA updates. And please report back if and how you were successful - or not....
can't unlock the tf700t bootloader
hi, ... sorry for asking again ... i'm not able to unlock my tf700t. i really tried every method i found in this forum ... there should be a method without that unlock tool?! what is asus doing with that unlock tool?! do they send a new bootloader to install?! would it be possible to install an already unlocked and copied bootloader from one tf700t to another?!
here my little history, i was getting my device from amazon 2 years ago, there was also trouble to register this device with asus, but with help of the support i could do the registration. after that i installed all the official updates till 10.6.1.14.10, but getting pissed by the behaviour of the tablet with some pauses and sudden freezes and working again after thinking about whatoever ... so i wanted to try another rom with a hopefully better and smoother behaviour of the tablet. found that nice thing called unlock tool what i should need for unlocking the bootloader. running that tool since half year daily without success! i also opend a lot of support issues by asus, with the last answer "... it should work now, if not please send in the tablet". i can't believe that this should be the only way ...
so tried a lot: downgraded to v10.4.4.18 including full wipe of all data from two years and my little one is not happy about that ... tried v7 of unlock tool, no success! (with no other apps installed) upgraded again to v10.6.14.8, tried with v8 of unlock tool. not working! currently that's my status, plus additionally i rooted the device with motochopper and throw away some of the asus preinstalled crap ... i'm able to find my device via the asus device tracker, the device is registered with asus, but the unlock is impossible ... it freaks me out ...
so is there an option to have the locked bottloader overwritten with root permissions with an unlocked one?! and second where to get that unlocked one?! ...
thanks for an answer!
