Hi all,
My Sensation XE was recently dropped from a fair height, and now it is demonstrating multiple issues:
- Screen has a small buldge in upper left corner,
- Wifi does not turn on,
- Bluetooth does not turn on,
- The memory card cant be read,
- The casing got damaged.
I replaced the battery back cover with a used one from eBay this week, so that was a quick fix.
My wifi and bluetooth were still not turning on. So I thought I may as well restore the firmware to fix it.
After booting up in 4EXT Recovery Touch (ver1.0.0.3 beta 8), I formatted the system and data folder and then tried to restore it.
But now it wont boot into anything. I believe I have formatted my ROM by mistake and now it wont boot.
I can go to Recovery mode, but nothing from there.
Please guide me diagnose and restore my phone...

No, I did not make a backup.
How can I make a backup now that my phone is not booting up and stuck on Sensation splash screen.
I can go into Bootloader/recovery screens though.
Secondly I cant mount or read from the SD card either.
Kindly suggest alternatives.. Cheers.

I am downloading all the files required for RUU from my laptop.
regarding the SD Card, I cant mount it in the Recovery Mode, however, when I connect it to the laptop in Recovery Mode and toggle USB connection menu, the SD card mounts in the laptop, as USB drive. I confirmed by copying and removing stuff on it.

since you can't mount the sdcard from recovery then the nandroid is useless
your only option is the ruu.exe
does your sdcard fits correctly in its case?
maybe that's why you can't mount it after dropping

Thanks, downloading it now.
I check my CID, and it was HTC__001, which is HTC WWE handset.
Now, I downloaded and ran the RUU from the link, which is corresponding to my handset. After running for a long time, it gave me an error. I am attaching screenshots below.
Please assist.

Now, about my Wifi, Bluetooth and SD card, they are still not working.

probably mate it's a hardware issue
check your back cover if antennas are fine(the one which is responsible for wifi)or try to lift them up a little bit
also check again the card reader if something is wrong

Hi guys, a little background :
I S-Off'd my Desire S a few weeks ago and installed/clicked gingerbread which i gather roots it?
One day my screen went blank randomly with just the notification bar showing up top. No buttons worked, couldn't turn it off etc.. so I did a battery pull. It then got stuck on the HTC screen, so I googled, tried clicking recovery/factory reset etc.. all while not really knowing what i was doing, but in the end it randomly loaded after a long wait.
Phew, or so I thought.
Now it constantly crashes, turns itself off, the camera doesn't work, force closes galore.. it's a mess. Figured the battery pull messed something up.
Searched a bit more and figured i should try and flash a ROM which might fix it and get it stable again.
Tried installing using 'download ROM' in Rommanager, it did all the installing and whatnot, but when it rebooted nothing had changed. Tried three times, same deal. Figure I should install a ROM via the SD card instead.
Found this forum and a relatively simple/safe guide :
I'm using the guide here : How to flash a perfect ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257731
The Rom is MIUI.
However, I'm only on step 2 : Format data. (Formatting /system was fine)
Clockworkmod says Formatting /data for about 5 minutes, then : Error formatting /data.
Help!
A big thanks in advance.

Could be a faulty eMMC chip on the phones motherboard, these tend to break after a few bad battery pulls?
If installing a new ROM on the phone wont work and you get data format problems I would do as posted above. If this doesnt work I would suggest a faulty eMMC chip.

Is there a fairly easy to follow guide that includes every step on here?
According to the FAQ I might have a fried chip.. the e:Unable to mount errors.
Can I still save it with the RUU?
I'm clueless, and a fair few of the guides are not too noob friendly tbh, could you please point me in the direction of an easy to follow guide?
I wish I knew how deadly the battery pulls would be before hand, but when your phone is frozen and you can't power it off, it seems logical. Arrrghg.
Much appreciated.

Since you still can boot into your system you are good.
Download the RUU that is right for you from here. Connect your phone to the PC and run the RUU.exe. It will hadle everything automatically. Then you will be back to Stock. To go back to custom ROM:
1) use Revolutionary
2) no need of Gingerbreak since you will flash a rooted ROM
3) flash custom ROM from recovery

Cheers. Yep, I got no phone detected, check your USB cable etc.. / ERROR [170] USB CONNECTION ERROR
I can't get into the phone to go into settings and turn USB debugging on though As soon as I get it functioning to that degree I'm not using it for anything other than calls in case I break it again. sadly, I could have earlier before I tried flashing a new ROM. Hindsight eh?
All I can get is HBOOT/ClockworkMod.
Tried RUU with the HTC white screen on and also while in Clockwork Mod.
Anything else I could try?
Thanks.
Are you using windows?
If yes download HTC sync and instal it, could be a missing driver.

If your intending on re-running revolutionary to S-OFF your device again then you must first de-install the program HTC SYNC from your PC, don't worry the drivers are left behind and there are all that you need.
This is already the 4th case that the "E: cannot open...." error is successfully solved. I am keeping track on all such posts constantly and in my opinion if we have some more evidences for solved errors of this kind it will be good to remove the "[solved]BRICKed: inside eMMC's dead..." thread to avoid stressing the users...
I think this is a mistake of a service technician that was too lazy to diagnose and just replaced the chip...and started a great panic in this forum
Could be true.
I personally think there where a few devices out there with an chip failure, but most of the reported faults where wrong classified and could have been solved other ways.
Maybe it would be good to write the conclusion at the overall section down, cause our device isn't the only affected.

I will write a "calming" thread besides the Guide that is in my signature or as a part of it, just waiting for more confirmations that generally the chip is not affected when there is an error. But it seems not much people are reading the guides they prefer to start a new thread...Anyway I have a friend that is working at a centre of a Mobile Operator for my country and according to him among the hundreds (!) Nokia's, Samsung's, etc., he got only one faulty HTC for repair for the last 2 years (and there is a practice to replace rather than repair as well)

Good point although hopefully any new user experiencing this problem for the first time will create a post in this forum and can get pointed in the right direction, or better still there's always the hope that they will look at the INDEX/GUIDES themselves and read some of the resources that have been made available for them to use.
Possibly create a list of most likely resolution strategies in a new thread so that they can be tried in order and I'll refer users to that in the section on eMMC issues at the bottom of the INDEX thread, where I've tried not to scare users into thinking that its all too late and its game over in the textual intro bit!

Yep. My "[GUIDE] Read this before going for eMMC replacement" is updated with the solutions that worked so far..
Alright so I purchased a Sensation locally to replace my Infuse, of course the first thing I do is try and flash a custom ROM that's where I got stuck. The phone was already S-OFFed by the previous owner I'm assuming and already had recovery flashed. So I see this and downloaded an ICS ROM put it my SD card and flashed, all went well until I tried to turn it on, it was stuck on a boot cycle. So I went back into boot loader and did a factory reset, clear data. Downloaded another ICS rom and same thing. Now I tried to Google the answer and I'm pretty sure it's there but I don't seem to understand how to fix it.
This brings me to my point, I need assistance to get out of this situation, I want to have the latest recovery and to try and have everything working fine.
Do you have the correct firmware for Ics? It is 3.32. This might help.

If you're not super CID yet, do it. Pretty easy. After that you can get any 3.32 firmware without getting into the hassle trying to find the one that suits your CID. After that, full wipe. Use the zip for ARHD ROM "android HD" or manually wipe each partition in 4ext. Then flash and your ROM Will certainly boot.

Or, Idk if you know your CID already...if you know it, head to the firmware thread and find a compatible 3.32..

I actually know how, correct me if I'm wrong but its this right?
4. open command prompt (or terminal for linux) and type "cd" "followed by the path to your adb folder" (windows users can type "cd C:\adb")
5. Ensure your phone is switched on (regular home screen) and connect it by USB in charging mode (Ensure usb debugging is on settings)
6. enter the command "adb devices". This is to confirm your phone is connected. (It should come back with list of devices attached and your serial number)
7. enter the command "adb reboot-bootloader". (nothing further required device WILL reboot in bootloader)

Download this: http://www64.zippyshare.com/v/66813266/file.html
Rename it to PG58IMG.zip
Put it on your SD Card, but not inside any folder, just on the root of the SD Card.
Reboot your phone to bootloader by holding the volume down + power button
Once booted, it will detect the file & ask you if you want to install it.
Select yes by pressing vol up button.
After install is complete, it will ask you to press power to reboot, but before you do, take out the SD Card from the phone and then reboot.
If you are stuck in bootloop, then pull out the battery.
Then boot to your recovery through bootloader.
Perform a full wipe.
Install your ROM again.
You will lose data, but there is no other option. This will fix your problem. If not, you should check the MD5 of the ROM you downloaded. There could have been some problem with the download.

I'm not sure if this is the right section or not, sorry if it's not, but my phone is really screwed up. I have the htc one S on T mobile that is running the viper one s rom on cwm 10 and will just go to a black screen after displaying the htc screen. I don't have any nandroid backups or copies of working roms either, so I can't boot from those. I did not have USB debugging checked before my phone became corrupt, so I'm pretty sure that ABD will not work, and whenever I try and plug my phone into the computer and access the flash boot menu, it will say that the USB is corrupt and it will not work. The cause of this is because I was messing with the build.prop, I accidentally deleted it, although I have a backup, there is no way if installing it in my phone's current state. It's getting to the point where I honestly don't care if I lose al of my stuff just as long as my phone will work again. Any knowledge shared on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Recovery and fastboot and that's about it.
Get a micro sdcard or if you have one already, get a micro sdcard reader, open case from back of your phone and take out the microsdcard.
Put it in the card reader. Copy the rom/image... put the card back in... boot in recovery... use the rom from sdcard to flash that rom.
Have fun..

Well... the only suggestions I can give you now are:
1. Go to this forum to ask for more help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1528
2. Visit HTC's official websites to find some solutions.
3. Search for other tutorials about flashing recovery via fastboot.

Ok,I'll upload a screenshot, but as for a different pc, I only have my laptop. Different usb ports don't seem to have any effect though...
I was given an HTC Sensation by a friend of mine because the device wouldn't boot.
I've done alot of research and tried everything I could find to get my phone to boot into even recovery but nothing's worked.
I've unlocked the phone using the HTC-dev method. I've flashed 4EXT recovery but I still can't get into recovery.
Also when I use adb it says "Error: device not found"
I cannot boot my phone it will just sit at the HTC screen and won't go any further.
My device is S=on.
Can you get in bootloader? Take battery out and sdcard as well. Put battery, press volume down + power and what do you get on screen?

Yes I've done that, I can get into the bootloader and see if it's unlocked, s=on or off etc.
What firmware version you have? S-OFF? When you go into recovery, from bootloader what happens? Phone just restarts or...?
Use this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668276
If you don't have 3.33 firmware, flash it using that tool and following all steps carefully. Also, are you on Windows 8? Because I have Windows 8 and had troubles finding the phone on adb (showing "no devices"). After flashing latest firmware, flash 4ext recovery and try.

Hi I am having the same problem with my htc sensation, if I unlock the phone it boots and 'freezes' on the boot screen and if I relock the phone it just keeps booting into boot loader. I have tried numerous stuff but to no avail. when the phone goes into the boot loader it says PG58IMG not found, I have downloaded the file onto my sd card but still it does not see it. I am wits end and am cosidering takeing the phone in to htc to try and get it sorted but would prefer to try and sort it out myself.
I have been told that my phone is 'bricked' and was referred to a website on how to unbrick it but the phone needs to be S-off and mine is S-on, please can somebody advise me on how to sort this problem out.

If you just unlocked it and it can't boot try to relock and use HTC latest ruu for your device

About the people that have issues here. Are you all with unlocked bootloader and S-OFF? Also, whats your firmware version? You could try to follow the link I gave earlier. I used that and it worked for me.
Don't want to create another thread....
I flashed firmware 3.33 yesterday and the phone ran very well all day today however it has stopped booting now and even won't take me to the bootloader to access anything.
It happened just now after I took Titanium Backup and then tried to reboot into recovery to backup current ROM however it failed and instead landed me into the Bootloader which didn't allow me to go into Recovery.
The last thing I remember is that it was showing "Bootloader warning" overhead just below -Firmware-3.33- title on which I choose to turn it off.
After turning off, I tried switching it on but failed. Tried many times but nothing worked out. Waited and thought the phone might boot up after keeping phone and battery separated however no luck either.
Did I just bricked my device for no reason?

I think I'm using the right terminology here, but forgive me if I'm not, I'm completely new to this.
A couple nights ago my Sensation 4G shut off mid-use and I haven't been able to get it back on. When I turn it on all I get is the HTC splash screen, and then it shuts off and turns itself back on again and continues to do this until I take the battery out.
I spent last night looking for solutions online but everyone I found with this problem had gotten it from trying to root their phone or flash a rom (again, terminology?) but I've never done this. My phone is exactly the way it was when I bought it, I've never done anything to it.
I can get into bootloader but if I go to recovery I get the boot loop again. If I go to factory reset I get the boot loop again. This morning I tried to turn it on again, got a boot loop, took the battery out to stop it and when I put the battery back in it just started up again with the boot loop without me even turning it on.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? I'm so confused.

Hi,
If you have never done anything to your phone ,then, take it back to the shop, and tell them.
I was really hoping there was something I could do to fix it myself as I've had the phone since November 2011 and I'm almost certain they will make me pay for a replacement/upgrade. But if it's my only option..

Hi,
Sorry, I did not realize you were out of warranty.
There are 2 possible things you could try.
The easiest is to get another battery.
The second ,if that does not work,is to run a RUU.

My apologies I should've mentioned that I was out of warranty in my original post.
Yesterday I tried a new battery in it but still no luck. I also tried my battery in another HTC and it worked fine, so that's definitely not the problem.
I've been trying to follow the guide to run a RUU but my cid is BM___001 and the only RUU available for that are 1.3.5 and 1.4.5 and I have 3.32
Is there any way around this?

Hi,
Use the 3.32 ruu,and add your cid to it(4.2 in the guide)
Do not worry when you run a ruu.
If it does not work,it will just give you an error.
It will not damage your phone.
Keep trying different ruu's and changing the cid if necessary.

Then, use the delete button in the winrar taskbar to delete the android-info.txt.

Hi
when I arrive at the step where I have to delete the file in Winrar, I'm getting the same error (The file is corrupted). I've modified some others archives that way without any trouble but it seems like the rom.zip from the RUU is protected in some way that whenever I touch the android-info.txt the message "The file is corrupted" pop up. I've tried it with 7-zip to be sure that winrar wasn't the problem and I tried it with 2 differents RUU. I've order a battery to be sure it's not the problem but i'm starting to run out of option

As you didnt modded your phone you are most probably SON that means you can't install any ruu.. Modifying the android- info.txt won't do any good as the signature checking will fail.. Thats why you are getting those errors.
. You need to find a 3.32 ruu with your cid otherwise you are out of luck..
One More thing you can try is unlocking the device using HTC-DEV and then try flashing a custom ROM. But the success rate for this probably would be less

Unfortunately 3.32 ruu are non existing in my region BM 3.32.666 since the update was only OTA. I tried unlocking with HTC-DEV and installing custom rom through 4ext recovery but the 2 roms I tried did the same: They seems to be working correctly for a few seconds then it's restarting in bootloop again, I can pass trough the initial setup fast by bashing ok to keep everything default and having seconds of normal use of the phone before it's gone in bootloop again... At least it's better than the initial bootloop on HTC white screen but still unusable. My last hope seems to be the new battery I've ordered!

Yes it's the tutorial I've followed. I've enabled smartflash just before wiping everything except sd card and flashing the rom. I would love to S-OFF with Juopunutbear (HBOOT 1.27.000) but it would need to have the phone on USB debugging wich is not possible because it's bootlooping.

Nope still stuck. I did the permanent smartflash by installing the 4ext updater in one loop then checking S-On in setting to perma smartflash. Then I wiped the miui rom and flash it again. still bootlooping after about 30-60 sec of activity. Then I tried the extra 1 step on the guide through fastboot (fasboot boot boot.img). Still not working so I did what the guide told in case of problem not solved i.e. reflashing the rom without wiping but i'm still stuck with the same problem. Do you think a new battery i've ordered could solve the problem?
