So I'm running the 8.27 nightly on CM10.2 on my d2vzw (stock kernal) and I'm getting massive battery drain. Looking at the battery graph, it's showing my GPS and WiFi as constantly on, even though they're both clearly off in my settings.
Does anybody know what would be causing this?
Nobody?
I'm getting over 10% battery drain per hour w/ absolutely NO use (like 30 sec. of screen time per hour).

first, install something like GSAM: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm&hl=en
or better battery stats (BBS): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats&hl=en
charge to full, unplug, and let it do its thing for a day and see what is taking your battery life. more often than not, it's going to be a rogue app that's constantly syncing and/or pulling data.
also, you're running a nightly, so it's somewhat expected that you are going to have weird issues...

The battery life on my Desire is horrible, and I would like to acheive some of the great battery performance I've been reading of other members. I've got LeeDroid 2.1a A2SD+ ver., with the 38.44 radio (I installed older versions in hopes of acheiving better battery). I am now getting far worse performance then when I had new versions of LD/radio, because "something" is draining the battery. ie. Before, I'd get 15% loss per hour during the day, and 1% loss per hour at night during my sleep, with the screen and wifi ON, (using GentleAlarm night clock, which shows the time but on a dimmed screen). Now, I have a 75% loss during 8 hrs of sleep! I even installed "Juice Defender" (Pro ver. with "Ultimate Juice"), which turns off wifi for a few hours, etc. It did nothing to improve battery life, or possibly made things worse. I tried uninstalling some programs, but nothing's changed yet. How can I find out which program or configuration is causing the battery drainage problem?
Battery Indicator Pro stats (8h40m since unplugged):
DISPLAY: 42%
CELL STANDBY: 26%
WIFI: 25%
ANDROID SYSTEM: 5%
PHONE IDLE: 2%
Quick Info stats:
Running: 95.9%
Screen on: 95.9%
Wifi On: 95.7%
Wifi Running: 95.6%
Wi-Fi drains faster than anything, if you're not using it then shut it off! Also, 15% drain per hour during the day and 1% at night isn't that bad. I would switch back to your first configuration. Maybe you're not taking into account how much you're really using your phone?
Well I'm comparing battery performance when I am NOT using my phone at all (during my sleep), and its night and day. When I was getting 15% per hr, 1% loss at night, that was with wifi ON (ie. JuiceDefender was not installed then, and it cuts off Wifi at scheduled times). I'd like to switch back to my first configuration, except that's my prob lem: I have no idea what that configuration was exactly. Lots of programs installed and uninstalled since. I'm going to take a look at a few apps though that might help me understand how to control battery performance.

I am getting a very short life out of my battery. I run firefly 2.3 and with everything off i am at 50% after about 4 hours. any ideas please.

I'm not too sure.
I almost get 1% a little bit less than an hour 45~50 mins at idle.
This is no data and nothing on.
But once wifi is on, it ate about 15~20% in under 30 mins. This is with browser open and msn
I suppose data would be around the same if not a bit less or more underload.
I suggest do all those things that increase battery life ppl suggest on the stickies.
4 hours doesn't meant much without more info. You can have your phone on for 3 hours and been surfing the net or playing games the whole time so I'd expect your battery to be nearly drained.
How long is your phone on for?
What % is the display using up your battery?
How long has your screen been on?
After display what's next for battery usage?

I would go through all the basics:
- Charge to 100%, wipe back to stock and do a fresh install
- Charge the battery to full again, do all the basics to get a legitimate read (plug/replug, wipe battery stats)
- Check your about phone settings and look at battery use, check for battery hogs.
- Check to see if you are in an area with poor signal. I lose signal if I'm indoors where I'm at so I turn the phone to flight mode. If I don't it eats about 15% of my battery an hour.
I get consistently good battery life with my captivate/FF2.3, so I'm betting it comes down to a faulty install or battery measures.
I've also noticed this after I upgraded to 2.3 (from stock Rogers captivate). My battery used to be at maybe 70% at the end of the day, now it is at 20%.
I just checked it, and it is reporting 93% after 2 hours. The display has only been on for 2 minutes but has used 48% of the battery.
I have the display set to the lowest setting, no gps, no wireless, limited background apps.
ok i turned everything off and put into flight mode and set the screen to turn off after 15 seconds brightness set to the lowest point on the slider and starting out at 99% on my battery, after letting it sit for exactly one hour with no use at all i turned it back on and it was at 83%. how did it eat 16% doing nothing. I also did like you said with the reflashing and clearing of the battery info and still get the same results. do you think it may be a bad battery.

I'm getting great battery life with Firefly 2.4(no mods added) with WiFi on 24/7...might wanna upgrade, it is so easy with the on-board download and upgrade built in!
I made the mistake of flashing when I wasn't at 100% battery not knowing how much of a pain it was to calibrate the damn thing. I did however realize that after a couple of full charge/discharge cycles my battery life improved. FF 2.4 seems to have better battery life, but I haven't had it on the phone long enough to say for sure.

My first charge on 2.4 never displayed "FULL" in the top left like I'm used to seeing. I bump charged just once and cleared stats. Still couldn't get that "FULL" up there.
That said, my batt lasted 2 full days on the charge with minimal usage (3 or 4 calls, a few short youtube videos, 4 or 5 rounds of Angry Birds, otherwise with display off sitting by my chair on my wifi).
That seems like ridiculous good standby to me... perhaps too good. I'm afraid I might be badly overcharging my battery, so I let it drain until it I couldn't turn it on and it's back on the charger. I'm hoping I'll see a "FULL" up there this time. On the other hand, I sure could get used to that kind of standby time...

Hey everyone,
I recently upgraded to android ICS 4.0.4 from 4.0.3 with the hope of the battery issue no longer an issue with my nexus s...
Though my battery drains around 1% every 2-4minutes with normal use, as in just scrolling and going through settings (not using apps), very very light use. I have factory wiped it , I have installed new roms and kernels - mixed and matched, uninstalled apps and installed apps one at a time (to see what drains), I even disabled some the high % wasting applications...
My screen dim is on the lowest, wifi is off, data is off, sync is off, gps is off, screen rotation is off, yet still no improvement, I even fully discharged my battery and re-charged it (while phone is off)- no improvement. And i also changed the CPU settings to 800max and still no improvement.
and when i'm playing a game or something it drops around 10% in ten - fifteen minutes, sometimes drops more.
When my screen is sleeping it takes around 1-2% every 1 hour-2hours, which I think is normal.
My screen is usually 45-50% Battery used by the display and backlight
Android system is usually 15%-20%
Android OS is usually 3%-10%
My battery is only about 4-5 months old, and I've always charge it when its 5-10% left, I don't let it die. I'm going to purchase a new battery to see if the problem occurs, if it does, can it be something with the phone hardware?
But any suggestion on what it is?
I've looked around on forums etc and none of the solutions have worked.
The display is going to use the most. There is no way around it. What are your average use times? If you're only losing a few % an hour idling, that's great! The only things I can think that would help is using black backgrounds whenever possible. You also have to keep in mind you're gaming with your phone and that's CPU intensive, which will cause more drain.

Yeah the display will use the most, but I remember it used to be around 30-35%, I've just been seeing how the battery is lately - just going through settings etc and it goes down every 2-3 minutes by 1%, it used to last much longer than that - 1% every ten mins. Sad thing is - I do use a black background lol to save battery and with games I hardly play them but when I do bye bye battery.
try battery callibration apk from market before you recharge your phone and no use 3g just 2g and make conservative 100/1000 the governor.

I'll try the battery calibration and see how that goes, and change the governor as well to see if any improvement.

Yesterday morning i charged it full 100%. I took it off the charger and left it on the table. It had no wifi or games running at all( at about 8 am) I leave it there all day until about 6 or so. and when i come back its down to 30% WTF IS THAT!. On my dads phone he could have 1% battery and leave it standing by all day and night and he can still turn it on without losing the last percent. Its not an iphone either. Hopefully 4.1 Jelly Bean will have some battery fix for the nexus
BetterBatteryStats. Your best friend when it comes to battery life.
Yeah. Mine isn't bad, but I also just go by my screen usage. If can't get at least 3 hours by the end of the day(which is probably 13 hours), then something is up. Note on calibration, it won't do anything. Those stats are reset once the phone is charged past 90% IIRC. On top of that, our batteries have a different way of reporting the charge. It's not the same as htcs.

I managed to get my screen down to 40ish% and my Android system is under 10% and I've been timing my battery and noticed every 4minutes exactly it still goes down. I tried calibration does nothing as you said. I'm gonna download betterbatterystats and I have cpu spy running atm...

I have the same issues. 10 hours max not touching the phone at all. Stock, custom, matrix, nothing helps.
Maybe 6 hours if I start using it moderately

Similar issue here. Tried all combinations of ROMs (jb,ics,gb) and kernels (air,marmite,matr1x,lucid) to no avail. Even reverted back to stock GB ROM, radio, and bootloader. Nowhere near 6 hours talk time or 200 hours standby time. I get between 8-10 hours standby time if I'm lucky. I even tried turning the phone off overnight, with a full charge even, and when I went to turn it back on in the morning the battery was dead and I had to plug it in to turn it on.
I picked up a new battery today but the issue seems to persist. I put the new battery in at noon with 98% charge and now 2.5 hours later I'm down to 70%. I am convinced there is a hardware problem that is causing the battery to drain excessively. GSAM Battery Monitor and stock battery stats all look normal with screen using the most battery followed by Android System etc etc. Aside from the battery problem, the phone is awesome and I really don't want to have to buy a GNex when this phone is still salvageable.
So what part of this phone could drain the battery so fast with the screen off? It could be the CPU, GPU, screen digitizer perhaps?
I know you tried with your old battery, but could you try again with the new battery with your phone turned completely off? If there's a drain, then there's definitely a hardware issue.

Phone off for half hour yielded a 9% drop in battery life. I'll keep the responses in this thread only. I just realized every time I respond to a thread it gets bumped to the top of the forum!

Definitely something wrong. I don't lose anything with phone off, so something is messing up hardware wise. Did the phone get water damage?
Hey folks,
i am using Oodie's 2.7.6 MIUI rom and the air kernel v4.4. i am experiencing a rather annoying battery drain. the phone has been running ~15h on battery and is at 63%, however I haven't done anything with it except for checking FB once.
The phone is UC and UV (100-880mhz, voltage all down at least 25mv). according to the battery monitor it seems to be "android OS". how can i figure out which process exactly keeps on draining the battery?
push notification is active for three apps (google mail, kakaotalk - sth like whatsapp, facebook).
37% in 15 hours is roughly 2-3% an hour. You're probably not going to get better battery than that since that adds up to roughly 40 hours of standby which is very good batter life. Android OS is at the top of the list because nothing else is using power (it's a relative statistic).
Most definitely. From the looks of it, you barely even used your phone.
this is exactly my question. the battery drain wasn't this bad before. Even with slight to normal use i could go around 30+ hours without recharging. now the battery is done in the same time without any usage
i had that on quite a few ICS ROMs myself... turning auto rotate off fixed it for me, maybe it does the same for you
The first screenshot is my battery life and as you can see Doze was applied but it still drained 10% in 8 hours. In the second screenshot of Better Battery Stats, it shows I have a lot of the phone being awake while the screen is off.
How can I figure out what is causing it to be awake and fix it?
Please let me know if you need other sections of battery stats or anything. Thanks

same things , im on on 10.3. it was pretty good during fresh install like 2 % in 6-7 hr. now 10% overnight drain everything off
PlusBeat installed? Had the same issue. No drain with it under 9, high drain under 10. BBS did not show this app. Found it only after freezing one app after another.
I really can't understand how you guys end up with these drains. Since I rooted I've taken about 7 updates to 10.0.2 , never wiped my phone and never encounter that type of idle drain. Check my screenshot it shows 0% drain in 6hrs with only 10% deep sleep which makes no sense at all. What's crazy is im trying to perform a battery test to get to 10hrs SOT with regular use but my uptime won't be accounted for in the battery menu because it starts calculating after you lose one percent. Thus the discrepancy in the screenshots
Some app is preventing your device from going into deep sleep. Facebook was the culprit for me.
Do you have a custom kernel installed? Something changed in a recent update & there's a service that goes haywire if you have a custom kernel & keeps one CPU core at 100% constantly. I found it in system logs as "vendor.oneplus.hardware.brain". My idle drain was over 4%/hr till I figured it out. See this post for how to stop it:
