The power button on my G2X has stopped working and I would like to know how to enable wake using volume rocker.
I'm using CM7.2 with Mazout's GB Kernel, and have enabled volume rocker wake in CM settings, but that does not seem to work, once the phone goes to sleep. Does anyone actually use this feature?
Yeah I could never get that to work consistently no this phone.
Any idea why?
I see some old threads here and on the cyanogenmod forum, but no conclusive answer.

My power button broke, no big deal on gingerbread CM7 it allowed the volume button to wake the device. Is there an ICS rom with that option. Does CM9 have it? Thank you in advance
Don't know CM9, but AOKP has it
You can also use 3rd part application like GO locker which has volume key wake up

You can do that on any rom http://dalvik.me/volume-rocker-wake/
the cm9 kangs have it. but, you dont need it or any other volume rocker wake apps on ics(any ics rom). if you go to the main phone settings, security, lockscreen, then disable the lockscreen. now you can wake your nexus s with its volume rocker, no special app or hack needed
thanks for the help simms and everyone else
Thanks in advance!
WidgetLocker has the ability
Just tried it, checked the box in settings, but no dice
Uninstalled and got a refund.
Any others?
no lock?
or
Screen Off and Lock?
Thanks, already tried both of them because they worked on my og evo, but no such luck
Coming from the galaxy s2 I do miss the power button on the side, hoping to find a solution still

Actually, I used to have a Nexus One and the power button was broken. To circumvent that, I had to use an app called AnyUnlock. I turned the screen on with the volume rocker and you could also use a widget to turn the screen off (rather than using the power button to turn the screen off). Which I suppose could be useful if you have smaller fingers or something and didn't want to make the reach. Very, very useful app when your power button stops functioning.

I'm sure it uses the same method that the other apps use and it even says in the description on their app page that it only works on Froyo and GB.
Yea seems like all of them don't work with ics urrrrrrrrr

Volume Rocker Wake works on CM9 Alpha 5
I've been using CM9 Alpha 5 for a few hours now and it's great !
The first think I set was the Volume Rocker Wake as the Power Button is not as easy to press when using most cases covering the power button.
To enable it, go to SETTING --> DISPLAY --> VOLUME ROCKER WAKE
it enables waking the phone by pressing the volume rocker EITHER up/down.
There is no way to specify one or the other
However, it works great ! I'm really liking CM9, my only complaint is the missing HTC Camera which was just amazing with the hardware burst (I'm still looking for a way to flash it if that's even possible).
So, apparently, you can no longer set your volume rocker to wake the phone. I inherited a buddies bricked Nexus S (submerged under water and then he tried a reboot.) After testing my skills as a modder, I finally ressurected the phone, but the volume button is in-op. Anyone out there wanna make a patch to fix my issue?????????????? I tried market apps.but they just don't do it for me. PM me if you are up to the task.
Peaces.
Nothing? OK, so does anyone know a good app that will let me do this? I tried one that used the proximity sensor, but it was annoying. I am having trouble finding an app that will let me either use the volume rocker to wake the phone (with no annoying message and go right to the unlock screen) or an app that will let me reconfigure my hard keys.

CM10 rom and many other roms include this. Called volume rocker wake and straight in the options.
judging from the title, perhaps you prefer to keep as stock as possible? if so, there is a rom that has volume rocker wake while keeping minimum mods.
I'm just wondering if everyone else is having issues with the volume rocker wake on the various CM and PA builds or if it's just my device. When the option is ticked in settings and the when the device's screen first goes off the volume keys WILL wake the device. If I allow the device the sit for a few minutes and then attempt to wake with the volume keys then they do not function.
I have a Galaxy SII (i9100 which I believe shares the same kernel that we're running) running CM9 and use this feature daily as it saves wear-and-tear on the power key.
I've looked for keymap files thinking that perhaps the issue may lay there but on both my phone and on the tablet the CM builds don't define specific keymaps for these devices so I don't suspect that's the issue.
Any help/thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
So I've been using Volume Rocker Wake because my power button died but I found it to be sluggish / intermittent.
I couldn't find any information here related to a fix so I decided I would provide this info for everyone who might need it.
I've been using CM10.1 with the Volume Rocker Wake option enabled in Settings -> Display but found that if the screen of the phone was shut down for more than a few minutes, the volume buttons would no longer work.
Fortunately, I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35230714&postcount=1 that provides a quick fix that will wake the phone even in deep sleep.
Enjoy
