Qi Chargers?

Has anyone tried one of those Qi charger films you can find on ebay or amazon that plug into your micro usb port and slip into the back of your case or cover? Do they work? Are they slow as sin?

Our phones are powermat only. No qi for us. Stupid ATT

In reading the original XDA LG G3/Accessories forum, somebody posted about using one of these and it worked fine. The only drawback is that you lose the functionality of the USB port. I've been using Qi charging with my GALAXY S3 and don't really use the USB port anymore. Not sure if that would be a deal breaker, but since you're asking the question, it probably isn't. If you buy one of these USB receivers, buy the correct orientation for the plug. The receiver plugs are made two ways, fat side up or fat side down.
I'm on the fence with this phone. Really like it's camera, form factor, the buttons on the back are more convenient & natural to me. The charging thing has put me off. If AT&T would give the Duracell PMA chargers away, it would be easy.
But, I suppose that if one was to add the USB Qi receiver under the case, get a PMA back (when available, only Circle case available currently), you would have all charging possibilities covered!

I was wondering about taking one of the folio cases from Verizon since theirs uses qi and put it on ours. Wouldn't that work? Cut off the front flap? (I don't really care for the folio cases myself.)

Reggie, that won't work. The Qi charging isn't enabled on the AT&T G3. Don't waste your money.

ATT has a deal with powermat to be the wireless charging manufacturers for our g3. Imo I like the powermat and it's pretty cheap on Amazon right now. Got 2 for 20 bucks. Charged pretty fast also. Lets not look at what's wrong but instead look at what lg got right with this device.

If you want to use a case that utilizes the wireless charging contacts on the back of the phone (under the back cover), then you need to use a Powermat charging coil.
If you want to use a system that plugs into the USB port to charge, you should be able to use any system that you want as it by-passes the wireless contacts. The USB port has no restriction as to what type of power it accepts.

I dont see why a qi wouldn't work, it's just inductive charging. not magic, is there something in the standard the maybe uses the NFC to do some sort of handshake?
I do know there's two pin types on these phones, if you look at the contacts on the case it's either 4 contacts or 2 contacts, space, 2 contacts.
just gotta get the one with the space. also you can get the sticker from here: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fact...G-G3-CASE-D885-D830-D851-D850/1971193812.html and just peel off the nfc sticker you currently have and replace it.

It's a different voltage, and the way inductive charging works the Att one doesn't have the hardware for it. It only has hardware for pwa so it won't work.

I'll add my experience with Qi here. I've got two of them, one on Note 3 and the other on a Nexus tablet. There are two problems that I see. The first is that there isn't any centering mechanism so sometimes the device doesn't sense the charger and doesn't charge. The second is that sometime after a power failure the charger has to be reset before it will charge. In both cases you wind up with a dead device.
I'm about to switch to the PMA charging and will see how it fares. At least it has a magnetic centering mechanism (or so I've been told).

If you mean a bulky magnet that's in the quick circle case then yes it has "centering". I prefer qi because the receivers are thinner, and it's easier to find chargers and qi tags.

Well it really depends on your budget. In my case, I am on a tight budget so I'll probably settle on TechMatte Wireless Charger that is priced not more than $25. However, I would really like the official Samsung wireless charger that is priced at $45 on Amazon. It is good-looking, sleeker and has functional LED light indicator.

Honestly anything that has 3 coils will do well for you. I recently purchased this charger from Amazon, and it's amazing. You don't have to play with alignment as there is more than one coil.

Yep.. ^^^^ what eep02b said.. I have the same exact one and it charges ridiculously good. No issues whatsoever. I've used a variety cases and it charges them with no issues. The thickest case I have is the Caseology and the Supcase.

I don't have the S6, but I do have the official Samsung charger.

I'm using it for my S3, that has a wireless receiver inside since my charging port is rather finicky these days. It works fine for that and it's nice that it's low profile, which is what I wanted.
The downside is that since it's flat, not very useful if you wanna watch movies and such, but that doesn't bother me since I only use it before I go to bed. I generally don't run into alignment issues with it, but always a possibility with the single coil setup.
The official Samsung one works with any Qi enabled device, though if you are using it for any other device, besides the S6, like I'm currently doing with my S3, the LED indicator will not tell you when it's fully charged. It'll just tell you when it's on the pad.
I don't mind since I just use my phone's LED indicator light to let me know when it's fully charged. But, keep that in mind, if you want to use it for phones other than the S6.
The 3 coil setup is better in that you won't run into any alignment issues like you can run into with single coil set ups. If you get something like this TYLT charger, you can definitely watch movies and such since it's propped up.

One other thing you wanna keep in mind with wireless charging in general. It will NOT charge your phone as fast as using the AC adapter (especially since it has fast charging capabilities) the phone came with. If you wanna charge your phone fast, wireless charging isn't the way to go. It's more of a convenience thing. Figured you knew that, but a friendly reminder never hurts.

Yeah I got this one aswell for bedroom, and I have the round original Samsung one for desktop. Samsungs has too bright blue leds to use in bedroom so its more suitable for desk.
Both works great, no issues at all. Might get the QiStone+ later on so that I can have a portable battery with wireless charging capabilities.

Have any of you with that Choe charger used any sort of app to measure what sort of charging current you're getting?

Im using the Choetech upgraded wireless charger, got it off Amazon for about £15. My last cheaper one used to sometimes overheat the phone. This one works without any issues and takes the same to to charge as a standard wall charger. What app can I use to check the charging voltages etc?

I use an app called Ampere. Had to use the option for the older testing method to get it to work with the S6.

The Samsung Wireless Charging Pad for Galaxy S6 works just fine for me.

My TYLT Vu only works reliably when my S6 is placed on it in landscape orientation. It either doesn't work, or works intermittently in portrait orientation.

No, the only problem that I have with it is when my phone is fully charger and then the screen of my s6 lights up and the sound of the wireless charging plays, and its keep on doing it ever minute or so... I don't know if its the charger fault or the device itself

Mine does the same thing on the Choe 3 coil. I stopped using it. Wish there was a way to fix this without root.

I have the same issue, the wireless charger charges my phone just fine. I have 3 separate ones and they all do it, once it gets to 100% it keeps making the charging noise on and off as it looses a bit of power and starts charging again, kind of annoying when it's by your bedside lol. Anyone know how to fix that?

I have the official Samsung charging pad, works like every other wireless charger. Not sure if it was worth the $40 I got it for but the charging LED is handy and it isn't too bright to sleep with (my opinion). It doesn't have any starting/stopping charging issues at 100%.

Just bought this a few days ago, absolutely love it. I've set it down maybe 50 times, never missed a charge or needed to re-position it. For $25, you can't go wrong. Only minor down side is the surface is pretty smooth, so people without a case, I could see this sliding off. I use a clear Spidgen case, and have no issues at all charging with the case on.

Does Anywere Sell Pre-Modded Samsung Qi Back Covers

Alright, so the Samsung replacement back cover for Qi charging adds enough thickness that normal cases won't fit anymore, this is known.
It is also known that you can take the offical Samsung Qi back cover, remove Samsung's Qi hardware, modify a stock back cover (glue, tape, and a dremel?) to add the module. This way it fits into the standard phone cases, while still allowing NFC to work properly, and wireless charging.
Does anywhere sell these pre-modified? Searching just leads me to cheap 3rd party Qi modules and reviews of the Samsung Qi covers..

Looking at adding one of the tape on modules that support NFC.. I don't use it often, but I do use it..
Can anybody recommend the Qi-Infinity modules over the PWRcard brand?
The updated Qi-Infinity module and the SLIMPWRcard are both supposed to have NFC support..
However, searching with Google on my mobile, I can't find a person that has done a comparison/review of them.
Does anybody have a recommendation?

I rarely post but was browsing the forum and wanted to chime in. I Just picked up a refurbished note 4 on eBay. I'm coming from a LG G3.
I wanted wireless charging on this phone but didn't want the thicker Samsung back.
I order a qi receiver on eBay since the prices were a bit cheaper than amz. I purchased the type that sticks to your battery after aligning the pins correctly. The issue is that I didn't want to tape it to my battery though because I like to swap the batteries out and charged them outside the phone.
When I added qi to the lg g3, the receiver taped to the back of the phone cover so I was surprised to see this opposite. I figured why not do the same with this phone. I used household double sided tape to attach the note 4 qi receiver to the back of the phone cover. It took a few tries to make sure the pins lined up but works with no issues once correct . My qi receiver was only 8 bucks.
I hope this helps anybody.

Quick question.. The more research I do, the harder this becomes.. lol
Does your module trickle-charge when the battery gets to 100%, does it turn off? Or does it keep the phone supplied with power, but stops charging.
Turns off at 100% then starts charging again when the phone gets to 99% for example? Or does it just stay at 100%?
Does this depend on the Qi pad used? Or only the phone module? Both?

I set mine on the pad at night and it shows 100% in the morning so it must trickle charge to keep it at 100%. It has a light on the choetech 3 coil pad I use that lights up when it detects the device is on the coil and drawing power.
I imagine this is based on both but not sure. I'm thinking the pad sits in a low power state and ramps up when it detects the device (indicates it knows it's there by the led on the pad). On the phone side, the phone controls when it draws current from the coil in the phone just the same as when it's plugged in. The inductive coil part is pretty simple and barebones.

I cannot confirm whether NFC works as I do not use it and I don't have any NFC devices.
I have experienced two issues with wireless charging since hooking it up. While my verdict is still iffy, i will continue to to test it out, as i love the concept.
The first night, the phone completely froze and i had to pull the battery. I had similar issues with my nexus 4 so i used an app called Safe Charge to help resolve my issue. I didn't bother testing a second night as i needed the alarm clock to work. I trusted that safe charge would fix the issue because i had similar issues on a nexus 4. And as expected, I had no issues since,. I'm wondering if i should continue this though as last night it didn't charge at all. I'm hoping i just i didn't put the cover back on right. i'll post back in a few days with updates.

Update: I think my issue was my case. I have started charging my phone without my it and my issue was resolved.
I also removed safe charge.

I'm guessing the fast charging wireless pad would work...?

LG G5 Wireless charger?

I was digging around on ebay for accessories for my G5 and i suddenly found this type of wireless charger for LG G5 that comes with a sticker and it has a cable on the bottom to transfer the charge from the sticker into the phone. So.... has anyone tried it already? Comment what do you think about it. Are we getting closer to have wireless charging capability the same or similar way than other devices with wireless charging feature? In my opinion this might be an improvement. (not that i use wireless charging a lot but it is sometimes useful)
I've seen that this doesnt only work for the LG G5, it actually works for any device with type C usb as i have been digging even more and see that it works for other devices too.

You still need to get the charging base, unless you have one, many of these receiver that plugs into the USB port is not very reliable, too many detection error and very fragile, but I did try a micro USB QI receiver yesterday on the G5 and it work fine, that is upto now without error also trying some QI extention cable receiver, still work perfect.

What is most interesting about this is that it works with any device (smartphone) with Type C . According to the descriptions you find on ebay and amazon. I will have to give it a try. Dont know when i will be able to buy it exactly, but i will

I would check the output. These G5 take a large 1800mA (could be more haven't looked) charger. I used to grab those Qi universal charger films you are talking about. Worked great until phones started taking 1000mA or greater chargers. Many of these wireless chargers do NOT support fast enough charging. Meaning it could take 4 hours to get your battery to 50% or even longer (some are only 500mA chargers, almost 75% slower than normal).
So be prepared for extremely slow, albeit convenient, charging. Check the output of your charging base and the output of the charging film first.

I just ordered that sticker from eBay. I'll report back once I have it and tested it. I have the tylt 3-coil wireless charger. Charging speed is no issue for me. I don't need rapid charging like from the OEM charger.
If you don't have tylt, you can try the spigen 3-coil wireless charger. They're cheap on eBay! I'm not sure if it'll work (I haven't tested it) , but spigen is a good brand for most things.

There is only one available, no matter where you buy it, it's the same product, speed is slower than cable, but that was expected, if you use a case, it's very fiddly to put on and take off, as the plug area is very big when you compare them to other receivers like the micro USB or lightning.

Hmm, But what was the estimate time for the phone to fully charge from x% to y% ? Maybe with another cover it would be easier to put? There are quite a few now for g5

If you are concern about slow speed, you shouldn't use it, as I say it's slower than cable, I mean with a normal charger, not a fast charger, but i'm ok with that, I have never liked fast charge, if you are using a TPU case, it easy to use, but cases like my voia or spigen style armor with removable bottom has problems, the head is very big, so not all case will fit.

Im not that concern though. After all i would only use it about 10% of the times. But people who really use it would probably like to know

Also, when you are using the device, whether it transfer enough energy to keep using the phone while it charges or whether the battery will decrease while you are using the phone. (In an average usage: Say, Facebook, youtube with brightness in about 50-70%, or having at least 3 or 4 applications running in the background that are not so heavy, nor light) If you have tried any of this things, or all of them, please share your experience with it.
According to the description of the link i posted, it says that the output is 1000mA

With about 1 hour of charging, i got about 10% of charge. If there's load, it'll def drop the charging capability. I'll do more rigorous testing, but as it stands, it's charging slowly.
Part of it can also be because I'm using the tylt charger, which has a 5 w output.

hmm yeah. There might be some factors affecting the rate of charge. I mean, 10% in 1 hour? that shouldn't be a standard charge rate. I will dig in a little more and see what i can find out there in google. Maybe someone did try it with a charging dock with higher Watts output. I will let you know if i found something

Okay, before i looked into google i decided to see what other sellers on ebay have to offer and here is what i found. There are sellers that sell the sticker along with a charging dock with an input of 2000mA and output of 1000mA, Power: 10W. I think that would only double the estimated time you just gave me from x to y being 10% in 1 hour . But it still too low. Maybe the cover is another factor? Maybe there are materials that decrease the overall charging rate by slowing the transference of energy from the dock to the wireless receiver. I will look for more info.

Wireless charging worry free

I've seen more than a few questions arise about certain wireless chargers and restrictions, but don't worry. My wife has the Mophie wireless charging case and charging pad for the iPhone 7+ and the built wireless charging on the S8+ is compatible both with and without a case. So for anyone spending extra for a specific wireless charging package keep it simple it works!

It may not work with every FAST wireless charger... I have 6 that I used withe S7 Edge that worked great, but 4 of them do not work with the S8+ for no obvious reason....

I got the RooRoo (stupid name) on amazon for $21 and it's been working fine with my S8+. Got it for the S7E originally. Supports fast charge and doesn't have any trouble. Phones in a case and the charger is only tall enough to touch just below the camera.
Edit: I do both technically. If I need to use my phone or I am at work, I tend to just have a corded charger I use. Else wise I use the wireless stand.

happen to have a link for that charger? and how thick is the wifes iphone 7 case? im getting the poetic revolution case for my s8 and wondering if that will work. lol, this case doesnt look to be near as thick as the poetic one for my lg g4...but never tried wireless with it.

I noticed that the battery temperature hits 38 degrees C when wirless charging (both on fast and normal) while not exceed 26 C in weird non fast charging, ambient temp was 19 C in all cases.
Will the higher battery temp during wirless charging degrade the battery? Does anyone know?

I have the s8+ she has the ip7+ hers is a charger case but her wireless charging pad from the Mophie charging brand works fine through my spigen case

I received my Samsung Wireless Fast Charger yesterday in the mail. Man, I LOVE this thing! 1st time using Wireless charging, I didn't know what i was missing....
Works just fine through my Spigen Neo Hybrid case on my S8+

I got 2 of the Elephas fast charge wireless stands for my S8+ and my wife's S8.. They don't work much at all, despite their positive reviews.. When using the adapter the came with the phones, they continue pause charging every second, until the phone gives up and says it's not compatible. If I plug them into a iphone adapter or a pc via usb, they charge but still randomly stop sometime through the night. Usually in the 80%'s.. Going to try different chargers..

I got a cheap as chips wireless charger from Ebay, £5.99, Not fast charger, but works perfectly, stops charging when battery is full, got my supplied charger if i want to fast charge but for just general use sitting next to my laptop i love it. Can just pick the phone up and use it then lay it back down and it'll stay topped up. Was thinking of the official Samsung one.......glad i didn't

I have no idea why one would spend 1,000€ on a device then skimp on a 40-50€ Samsung charger? Like buying a Merc' or BMW etc then using xxxx 40€ seat covers or floor mats.
With all the controversy regarding the subject of third party chargers be they wall or wireless for the small financial difference I always go for the Samsung branded accessories. Typically me though, not all the same are we?

Lol, I hear you. Now behave yourself lol, you can't be THAT skint to purchase the S8+ :highfive:
This is a tough debate. Numerous threads on XDA cover this point and so many owners have damaged their mobiles using third part chargers. At the very least take a very careful look at the specs on any third party charger and ensure they are identical to the charger that came in the box, even then there can be problems though? Its a gamble.

The rating on my supplied charger says output is 5v - 2.0a and the wireless says 5v - 1000ma
