Rooting LG Optimus F3 - Virgin Mobile (Mac Users) - Android General

[STORY TO ROOTING MY DEVICE AND 2 ISSUES THAT I ENCOUNTERED]
I got my LG Optimus F3 last week and searching everywhere on the internet to know how to root my device, I did not find anything but only how to root other devices that are LG Optimus. I posted on here XDA Developers and richardpwnsner recommended Motochopper. I tried using it on a Windows it failed, maybe because I followed steps that were for a LG Optimus F5 but it caused some glitches on my phone so I had to factory reset my device.
Rooting device using Windows http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334544 What I first followed.
I tried it on my mac on Friday (August 25th, 2013). I have rooted my device successfully and these 3 days I did not have any issues but two.
*My main issue on android* I had only one issue when trying to change my Superuser by CLOCKWORKMOD since I was accustomed to Superuser by CHAINSDD on my old device (Kyocera Event). The binary did not want to update. I tried SuperSU by CHAINFIRE same issue occured. I sticked to the original Superuser that was installed and the features are much better and no issues, binary did update on it.
*My other issue on my Mac but totally worth it* I rooted my phone using my mac, when I downloaded Motochopper, I unzipped the file and opened the file's folder and it froze my computer, I attempted other times and it kept freezing my computer. I believe it is due to my virus scanner (Kaspersky) due to it freezing/crashing my mac anytime there is a (.exe) file but not 100% sure. So take your risk as I really don't give a c**p and accomplished my goal.
[STEPS TO ROOTING]
I rooted my device by following these steps and I take no credit for anything of this, I'm just sharing information from othersand I'm not responsible for anything that occurs to any of your devices and have no experience on this so don't be asking me questions since I'm no developer just someone who truly loves the concept of rooting. The steps that I followed were by how to root a Samsung Galaxy S3.
Step 1: Download Motochopper from anywhere you like here are some posts that have the file:
http://http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/15208-root-motochopper-yet-another-android-root-exploit-412/ Author of this tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334544
Make sure when you download the file unzip the file to your desktop.
Step 2: Enable USB Debugging is Enabled (Settings>Developer Options>USB Debugging)
Step 3: Make sure you have a password on your Mac.
Step 4: Connect your device having it on and USB Debugging Enabled
Step 5: Open Terminal Window and type in each of the following commands in ordered by pressing Enter one after the other.
- cd Desktop
- cd motochopper
- chmod 755*
- sudo sh run.sh (After this it will ask for your password, input your password it looks like this)

Press enter on your mac and then this will pop out:
Phone will automatically reboot and you may disconnect the device from your Mac. If you rooted successfully you should see Superuser on your LG Optimus F3.

Alternative solution
Motochopper didn't work on my VM Optimus F3 so I used saferoot instead. Beware, if you downloaded the latest firmware update, you need to flash to stock ROM. I used LGflash for that.

I also have been trying to root my f3. I got it about a week ago and cannot find software to work. I had all the drivers installed from the Lg website amd tried saferoot amd motochopper to no avail. Ive also tried towelroot amd framaroot as on device roots and got no results. When i used framaroot i got neither an error message nor a confirmed root message. The app seemed to force close amd it returned me to my home screen... any suggestions? Its a VM device btw

Try using the phones web browser to download and install stump root. Stump roots gui should say press grind to continue followed by a popup window that says your device is not natively supported. Click force root. After its done running download supersu by chainsfire from the app store and press normal when it asks to be updated. You should then be rooted.

[Guide] Install drivers for any device using Pdanet

Pdanet, a tethering tool which allows you to connect your PC/laptop to internet using your Android smartphone, also specialises in something else: You can install the drivers for any Android device using the PC end of Pdanet. While most of the popular devices come with official drivers or are easily available on the internet, some of the cheper and less popular models, like the ones sold by local Indian manufacturers, don't have any official drivers, so it's really a pain to find drivers for them.

Pdanet comes to the rescue here. I have tried it with a plethora of devices :fingers-crossed:, and it installs drivers for all of them. I have written a full fledged guide, targeted especially at newbies, to help everyone install drivers for their device and proceed with rooting/ using ADB or fastboot. I have even included snapshots to help you get through the process swiftly.
THe process is quite easy. I'm posting a summary here:
Download and install pdanet on your pc. It is available here: http://www.junefabrics.com
During the installation process, select device manufacturer accordingly.
Attach the device to your pc using usb only when the setup asks you to do so.
That's it.
Don't forget to exit pdanet before trying to connect to adb etc.
Here is the guide: http://www.droidiser.com/2012/11/how-to-install-drivers-for-any-android.html
These days, during the process of rooting, installing the drivers is one of the toughest steps for many, as one click root tools are available on xda, once drivers are installed successfully.

HELP!
I tried rooting my Lenovo A1000-F --- followed the instructions, installed PDANet and ran Kingo, which said the root was complete. When I clicked FINISH the screen on the tab went blank and now I can't get anything!
Here's what I'm seeing after plugging the USB back into the tab, which I hope isn't bricked.

Will this work on ZTE V793 ?
You can try.
Mainly poot allowed the root and superusers lets you give permission.
Im hoping this will allow roms to start being build and a chance of unlocking the nvm folder.

Recovery Image
Hey everyone I'm smartmanvartan... you can usually find me on AF. The N850 has just been released here in Canada with ICS! I don't want to buy this phone per-say but I have a N860 and they are very similar. this could help us Warp users finally get ICS and the same goes for you Fury users. Now I have a friend at Public Mobile(the carrier releasing the N850) that will let me grab a system dump from a new phone but I can't root it or flash recovery. But if someone can pull their stock recovery and post it up, I can make a CWM recovery or at the very least a adb enabled stock recovery and then BOOT into it without flashing it by using the fastboot boot command. Once I have a system dump and or a CWM recovery, I will post it up here as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Might want to look into the mobile uncle apk.. its the go to app for china phones and since the v793 seems to be just that it may work for you. it is capable of rooting and flashing recovery... in the other thread for your phone, there is mention of a modified cwm from the zte blade. try getting the image in question and use the mobile uncle tool to flash it. the mobile uncle tool is available on google play...
Hi guys, will this work on a ZTE N850 that runs off Android 4.0.4?? Does it matter?
everytime i press the "press here to poot" the phone freezes
and I have to do a battery pull. any ideas

Same here... i've been trying on a US model of the N850 and it always freezes.. I've been reading around and I found some people saying that it is ministro version 9.5 and up that doesn't play well with poot.. but even with an older version of the ministro app, i have had no success...
I have a US ZTE N850 that I couldn't root. Tried everything. I gave up on it for a few months, then I guess either poot or Ministro updated themselves. I got a warning from Google Play that poot was dangerous and I should uninstall. So naturally I ignored it and ran it and this time it worked. Ministro II v9.5 if that helps.
I'm still stuck with the gingerbread os, but having superuser makes it a lot
more usable device. If any of you had poot freeze on you before, I suggest you
update Ministro and poot and give it another go.

Root Voice Xtreme x5 (MTK6592)

I got Voice Xtreme x5, last night for the new cheap price. However, I did not find a guide for new users to root it. I spent some time on trying various tools and got one working.
This procedure works for me but I cannot guarantee that It will work for you and not brick your device. My device is running updated android KitKat (new device) with following info (extracted using MtkDroidTools v2.5.3):
Hardware : MT6592
Model : Xtreme X5
Build number : Xtreme_X5_V4.0
Build date UTC : 20141007-101058

3. Start Rooting using iRoot. It will take a while installing its software on the android device and connecting it.
4. If rooting is successfully completed, you will see:
5. In the phone you will find two new apps (see below figure), the left one could be uninstalled easily. However the right one is in System memory. You can either keep it or delete it. If you keep the apps the permission prompts will be in Chinese.
6. Install SuperSU and run it. It will ask you to update binary, do it. When SuperSU will try to update the binary, the existing Chinese version of the SuperSU will ask for permission multiple times (in Chinese), click right button to allow every time.
7. Restart device, disable the Chinese app or uninstall (with a system uninstaller like SystemCleanup).
8. Have fun with the rooting device. You can verify the root by using an app like Root Checker.
I am not sure, I go for developing a CWM recovery. But, I certainly have no plans for developing a custom ROM.
