Battery won't charge beyond 38% - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been having this problem for the past 4 days, my Nexus S won't charge beyond 38%. I was due for a battery replacement, I got that today, and even that wouldn't charge beyond 38%, after reaching 38%, it says charged. Please help

A friend of mine had the same issue with his galaxy Nexus.
I am not sure if he did what i him worked. He never said anything to me.
1. Use your phone until it dries out and shut down on its own.
2. Start it up to make sure that it immediately shut downs from the lag of juice.
3. Plug in the phone, when it is off and let it charge to 100% ( do not start the phone until then )
4. Repeat the same proccess once more.
This might help set the battery stats that you have for your old battery that are saved on your droid.
If you are rooted it might help to cleat the battery statistics as well.

I'll try it tonight and post back

I did get a new battery, still gives the same problem. And for some reason I'm not able to keep the phone off, every time I do that it just switches back on.

Couldn't get the phone to charge in off state, kept switching back on, and reached the same percentage and stopped charging. Also used battery calibrator app to clean the battery stats. :/

battery only chargers to 95% ?

Is this normal. I did try and do a search in my defence.
Yes. It is like that by design. It stops charging at around 95-98%. Its to prevent you from overcharging the battery.

This is a known issue. You can try and reset battery stats in cwm when your battery is charged and/or emptied. It works for some and not for others. I haven't noticed my battery lasting any less when my battery doesn't "charge" past 97%
There have been some discussion on this. I get about 97% myself. From what I've read you may get full charge if you let it drain all the way. I don't do that myself. Very happy with battery life as is.
I used to get 100% before I switched to the Vegan rom.

Either let it drain until it shuts off a few times and then charge it all the way up or if that doesn't work, use CWM to delete the battery stats when it's at 95% (full, with a GREEN light - not charging, with a red light) and then let it drain until it shuts off on it's own.
I did this a long time ago (delete the stats) and it's been perfect since. Charges to 100% and does indeed show battery at almost empty before it shuts off.
Good Luck.
Still no go here but it can get tom 96%... lol
I am sitting a 98% with VEGAn.
I am now having an issue where u can use the device, then I turn it off, and
turn it on the next morning and see about 5 to 10% of my battery was drained.
Confirmed Fix
Confirmed fix for me on Vegan 5.1. Letting battery drain down to zero and shutoff the tablet... reached 100% on next charge. Now the indicator charges to 100% every time.
tried this and still no luck . still get to 95-6% bugger
Vegan here..this is how I fixed it:
1) Drain it till it shuts off, try restarting it a few time to make sure its dead.
2) Once dead, plug it in, boot into clockworkx, and reset battery status (do this quickly)
3) restart, and leave plugged in idling till fully charged
4) use and enjoy a accurate battery level!!

You have to remember that in order to install some apps out there, you have to give them permission to use the internet and to interact with your device autonomously. I have found a few apps that were pulling my tablet out of sleep mode and turning on the wireless to download ads or other updates, and that (along with the length of time to shut back down) was affecting my battery life.
I would say to go back and review what you've installed, and to also check your screen timeout settings. Just doing that saved me quite a bit of overnight battery loss.

anyone else with horrible battery calibration

Well Im not saying the battery life itself is bad, but well for example, I just drained the battery completely (phone shut down by itself) and within about 2 minutes of putting the charger back in the indicator read 70%.
Im currently using the method where i run it down to 1% then fully charge, rinse and repeat. (Just started doing this)
Just thought I would share

no problems here, but apparently half the people in the battery threads have issues with battery life.
hmmm, well I just want to get this right because it gets annoying when it says 100% battery then goes down in about 20 minutes
I've had issues with battery life indication on my Omnia 7.
I can have it showing 70%, then it would suddenly drop to showing around 10%. Then by turning off and on several times it will sort itself out and show the correct amount.
This has only happened once or twice mind...
No problem here on my HTC 7 pro. Though I did calibrate one battery and not the spare, both perform the same.
I have no problems either on my omnia 7

No problem with my trophy but a good practice to keep you battery in shape is to start charge at 15-20% (dont leave it until is dead is bad for the battery) and dont charge it to 100% ...stop charging at 90-95% ...
That is what i do with all my mobile devices and rarely i have probs with my batterys.

[Q] Odd battery life situation

I've always been reasonably happy with my battery life. If I use it heavily it goes down. If I don't it can stay charged for a couple of days. Within the last week or so that has dramatically changed. All of a sudden it barely makes it through the night from a full charge to 10% or so. It also "seems" that normal use drains it at least twice as fast. Anecdotal but I know something is wrong or different.
I haven't made any changes to my phone for months. I'm running existz kernal for 2.2 and that is the only customization. I did get a bunch of app updates but that always happens. The battery use screen shows the batter is being used for display but over night, it doesn't/shouldn't display much.
Thoughts on how to find what the heck is going on would be appreciated.

What I would do if I were you is charge to 100%, recalibrate, and take the battery out for about 15 minutes before you put it back in and turn your phone on. I dunno.why this procedure worked for me but that's just a suggestion if you don't wanna flash to stock and back to whatever you're using.
Uninstall updates, then add them back, one at a time.

I notice dramatically different battery life when I use this procedure to charge my phone known as a bump charge.
1) charge to 100% or as close as your phone will get while it is on.
2) Disconnect charger
3)Turn off phone
4)Re-Connect charger while phone is off
5) Wait until the phone says 100% charged while it is off. You can check the charge by using the volume buttons if the screen is asleep.
6) Unplug charger. (This is important. If you boot your phone with your charger plugged in it can give you inaccurate battery information.)
7) Boot up the phone.
That is really odd but mine has started doing the exact same thing. I have never had battery issues and for the first time today my phone was completely dead within 6 hours, and the past week it seems to hardly make it 12 hours.
I was just assuming it was the launcher I was using but I removed it and it never helped whatsoever.

I would agree with you on that but... I really have no idea what all got updated and don't know how to find out. the perils of auto-update I suppose.

I'll give that a try... it made it through last night in pretty good shape though. Confused I am.
Not sure if this helps or not, but here is my experience.
I have two wireless routers in my house. One I keep locked to N-only and the other to G-Only. The N router I have suspected for some time has a weak or flaky radio because I can watch the signal strength fluctuate wildly over a period of 10 seconds or so. I noticed a while back that when my phone is connected to the N router it will kill itself pretty much overnight. When I disable that connection and let it connect to the G router it only loses a couple % over an 8 hour period.
I don't know if it is due to being connected to N, or if my suspected flaky router is causing it to use more power staying locked onto the signal or something of that sort.

[Q] Battery drain issue

Hi.....
I am new on XDA.
Need help regarding battery drain issue on Samsung Galaxy I9103. I am using this Smartphone since November 2012 with default stock ROM and found it a good phone. No Root, no custom ROM flashed ever. But recently I faced the battery drain issue, sometimes it is worse. I change the charges as well to assuming that my charger is not charging battery properly but result was same.
I was about to change the battery. But today mobile is delivering outclass performance again which is very surprising for me. Last day I charged my mobile 3 times and every time battery drain out so quickly on idle / stand by mode.
Last night I charged the mobile about 65% and switched off. Then in morning I charged it again while mobile was still switched off and unplug the charges when battery was around +90%.
Question
1. Whats wrong with mobile?
2. Should I change my battery?
3. Any other issue.

the possible reason cld be,
1. some backgrnd process running constantly
2. device not going in to deep sleep when screen is off (requires root to check )
3. cld be a faulty charger or faulty battery in worst case scenario.
but i suspect reason 1 or 2.
if u r not rooted, very liitle v can know the cause of your problem

Hello
Good day.
Please review yesterday performance image. Most important, when I gave nap around 7-8 hours to my mobile, it is delivering good battery backup.
Further I was searching on net to regain Li-Ion batteries for smart phones and got following. Kindly validate this method.
Disclaimer: This should be used only if you believe there’s been an obvious decline in your battery life.
As promised – here is one method for bringing trusty dusty back to life
1) Turn your phone on and charge for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the phone and turn it off, then and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the phone turn it on wait a couple minutes then turn it off and charge for another hour
Your battery life should almost double.
The logic behind this method is that your phone runs on battery power all the time even when its plugged into the charger. One side of the battery gets charged while the other side is keeping the phone on. So…if your phone is on while charging it never gets charged 100%. Doing this once or twice a month should recalibrate the battery and bring it up to full usage.

galaxy j7 battery problem

i think my phone has some serious problems and i'm wondering if it's the battery dying or a short circuit
when i plug it on a charger while of it shows a normal charging image but how it switches from one animation to the other so i can see the status of battery percent it's like a short on the screen happened
it chargers to 100 but when i switch it on it shows mybe 95 but never 100 and if i connect it to a charger to get to 100 it only decreases
it gets warm now days which did not happen and it like drains 50% overnight which is obviously not normal. these two days the battery life is like 4 hours with internet wich with j7's battery it should not happen. if i switch it off and then on again i loose like 20% of battery and if that is all i had i get 0% and the phone doesnt switch on. the phone never had contact with water . it's been 4 days since this started and it happened all of sudden like today my phone stays up to two days at most and i just woke up it barely finishes a day without data and with power saving mode
i'm sure it's not about background apps or any activities because i hard reset it already and i don't have any app. and it's not about wifi or sync or poor network i tried all that. i did everything it didnt help. i could buy a new battery but i'm scared it might be a short because i don't think a battery can just die in one night like this.
can anyone help me with this or it's nothing serious and i have to change the battery
