What difference is there in gs4 and nexus 4 GPU? - General Questions and Answers

I know that they both run andreno 320 (I think lol). Any way what difference is there and is performance better ?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

In terms of raw power samsung wins...but if i were you i would buy nexus...you will get almost instant updates while with sammy you will have to wait...and nexus is much more dev friendly while sammy isnt so on s4 custom roms will never be fully stable.

[Discussion] What would be your next phone after SGR ?

heya guys, i found this thread under LG O2X section n i found it to be very interesting.

4.2" screen+
pre ics/jb pack
s amoled screen
internal 8gb+
expandable 32gb+

well i have planned to stick to SGR until it totally breaks
well my requirement is
> atleast dual core SoC with good class GPU (i love gaming)
> screen must be between 4 to 4.5 inches (i hate big phones like note/s3 they are very uncomfortable to carry in pockets)
> screen should be LCD or AMOLED not based on pentile matrix, i prefer LCD as they are having high brightness and great outdoor visibility.
> good dev support
> and main important thing is that SoC is made by companies like TI, Samsung, Snapdragon who releases their proper sources. it will probably wont be having nvidia SoCs.
> next device will be 90% samsung as that phones doesnt comes with locked bootloaders and after rooting we can still claim warranty by just resetting counter and flashing stock rom
I will probably go for Galaxy Nexus 2.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda premium
I will be with Royal phone till the time i can receive and make call...
If i failed on previous line, then i will be moving to some windows phone(mostly with windows 8)
90% sure it will be a Nexus.
100% nexus.... while the hardware is often outdated by other flagships the timely updates make up for that..... i can no longer hav a phone that has been promised an update since like ever while everyone else has moved on

A nexus. 100%
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app
Nexus 100 % It says that the next generation of nexus will be produced by several manufacturers and will also be greater choice and probably cheaper
1. Galaxy Nexus
2. HTC...whatever better than One X
3. Samsung Galaxy SIII
4. Maybe Sony. Not sure yet....

my budget still remains the same...
20-25k INR or apprx 400-450usd

At least for one more year i will stick with our Galaxy R....
My next device will be Nexus or flagship device from Samsung (Lot's of developers will be there, so we will be having lot's of custom ROM's )....
mine will be a sony xperia series.. their camera and music quality is much better even for mid range phone, quicker upgrade and fully supports the dev community...SGR might be my last Samsung phone...
I will never buy nvidia powered device
Unless nvidia supports devs..i won't buy tegra bull****..still we are stuck with gb..i will go for good flagship model by next year by this time.
I'll keep my SGR for one more year no matter it remain stuck on GB. To taste ICS/JB i'd rather buy a tablet..... probably a nexus
Sent from my GT-I9103 using Tapatalk
Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus on my preferred list currently. It shall be Nexus any day here on. No crap from Manufacturers be it flagship or not.
I will preferred Galaxy Nexus 2, but if can be modified then screen quality must be like NOTE 2 & Screen size must be of Galaxy S3 with processor & GPU .
I'll use this one till I can call/text
I like Samsung but won't buy a device which isn't flagship.

Not at all Devs support is really poor there compared to Sammy or HTC. About upgrade Their flagship Xperia S got ICS update couple of months later than S2. (After I sold my SGR I was choosing between HTC One S, Xperia S and Galaxy S2).
About music and especially camera - you're totally right. I guess Xperia has the best camera.

You have a One X. Why would youu want a new phone that is actually older?
But Nexus wins. It doesn't have the Exynos processor, but an HD screen, bigger screen, faster updates, lots of development (S2 does too).
Camera is meh but like I said you have a One X which has one of the best cameras on a smartphone in the market.

The Nexus will be better because you will get your updates much quicker and straight from Google! I'd go with that.
I am a GNex owner and I say that you made a great choise!!!
The speed and the screen are perfect!
I play with it and its Platform since the first day..
I just love it..!
GS2 it is good but it doesn't give you the same feeling as the GNex!

i sign that
I faced the exactly the same question when helping my wife to decide a smartphone. I did a little research on the internet, and here are the reason why I choose SII over Nexus.
1. Super AMOLED vs AMOLED HD
Yes, Nexus as better resolution and higher ppi, but the quality of display, the color saturation on the SII is better than the Nexus when comparing them side by side
2. Corning Gorilla Glass
This is only for the SII, Nexus doesn't have that.
3. CPU + GPU
Galaxy S2 CPU:1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU、Samsung Exynos 4210。
Galaxy Nexus CPU:1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU、TI OMAP 4460。
Same CPU, but the GPU for SII is slightly better suited for high end graphics
4. Camera
Galaxy S2:8MP rear camper with 1080p HD video、2MP front
Galaxy Nexus:5MP rear camera with 1080p HD video、1.3MP front
So in the end, I choose the SII instead of Galexy Nexus. But please keep in mind, that the difference are minor, so if you have already choose the Nexus, stay with it. Both are excellent benchmark android device. Excellent phones from Samsung.

Upgrade advice from Infuse

Hi
I am planning to to little upgrade the phone. (Sadly Google Nexus 4 is not avalable on the playstore and being sold on ebay at high price. )
I have shorlisted other phones as under:
Galaxy Nexus I9250
Sony Xperia S
LG Optimus L9
Galaxy S2 Skyrocket i727
My requirements will be Good visual quality screen & multimedia performance (im not hardcore gamer) Dual core processor, 1 GB RAM and Andriod 4 OS.
A comparasion chart has also been prepared for help.
please give valuable feedback for the purchase
Hi Aeonit,
I would put them in this order based on what you are wanting... just me
Nexus
Optimus
Skyrocket
Xperia
If you sometimes like to use a darker theme it will save battery on the first three but not on the xperia (LED). Think all your choices are good !
Xperia s has best specs.

Is it too late in the game to get a GE of the S4?

Hey all. I'm a current Nexus 4 user but I would really like a phone with better battery life that is also removable and has external storage but I don't want to give up stock android. So the GE of the S4 seems favorable but I'm wondering if it still makes sense to get the GE of the S4 seeing as there are a lot of Snapdragon 800 phones now on the market?
IMHO it is not worth taking a non SD800 phone right now... Mostly because Adreno 330 over Adreno 320 than CPU itself.
Yep, too late

If you want a near perfect stock Android experience then yeah get the S4 GE. Much smoother and faster than CM (tried 'em both). Getting around 30 hours of battery-life and the performance is absolutely great. Went from a Nexus 4 to my S4, and the latter is better in almost every aspect. :good:
It depends on whether you live your life by benchmark scores like so many people on here seem to. Would there be a real-world difference between a Snapdragon 600 or Snapdragon 800 phone now or in the near future? I have my doubts. Yes, we know the SD800 is faster, but what use is paying extra for that additional speed if nothing you do with your phone needs to or can utilise it? For example, I know my I9505 is considerably faster than my brother's I9300. Yet I know from first hand experience that his S3 doesn't run visibly slower than my S4 when running any of the applications or games I have compared.
So the upshot for me is that other factors then become more important. For example the camera. Or the screen size and quality.
Not at all. I just received mine yesterday and love it! I had an AT&T GS4, but couldn't get it to perform right even after rom's, kernels, etc. TOUCHWIZ = bad
I'm very happy with the performance of this phone and will hold onto it until the GS5 (hopefully) is released as a GPE.
I agree that I don't see it being too late to get a S4 GPE. My Galaxy Nexus failed a couple months ago and I really wanted my next phone to have a removable battery and a microSD card slot, but I have no desire to use anything but stock Android. The S4 GPE was just what I was looking for. With a bit of research, I've been able to root the device, unlock the bootloader, install CWM recovery, and make full Nandroid backups--just like on a Nexus phone.
I really hope Google maintains the GPE line of phones in the future. Not having to depend on Nexus hardware or flashing custom ROMs as the only way to get an unaltered Android interface is really nice.

Man....i did the same mistake as you wanna make!I used a Nexus 4 before buying a Galaxy S4.I`m very dissapointed by this phone. In theory should be better than Nexus 4 but the TouchWiz interface is full of lag glitches and other things that you don`t see at Nexus 4.Battery is definitely worse than Nexus`s 4.In benchmark tests it S4 scores better than Nexus 4 but in the normal daily usage you don`t feel this difference.I have i9505 model and i must tell you that no pure stock android 4.3 porting is perfect like the one that you have on Nexus 4.So...the main advantages of Galaxy S4 are the camera wich is gorgeous comparing to Nexus 4 camera. Also the display is way better than the one from Nexus 4.But on Nexus 4 you can use "faux123" kernel and his app from playstore to adjust the correct colours for the display and you will get a very nice vivid display. Also the combination between "faux123" kernel and "Purity Rom" will give you a decent battery life.I had a "faster" cpu binning Nexus 4,wich supports a 150 mv undervoltage. That didn`t impove too much battery life but the overheating problem was gone at all.So...for short...Nexus 4 + faux123 kernel(and his app) + Purity Rom + 150 mv undervoltage makes the Nexus 4 almost as good as Galaxy S4 but at a lot more deccent price.Hope this will help you to make the correct decision.Have a nice day mate!

What do you think about Galaxy S5 ?
Is it worth alternative for a future upgrade ?
No
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It's a downgrade in my opinion. Touchwiz is really, really bad.
It depends what you want to do with the phone.. Are you trying to run custom Roms. Root has been achieved, but not sure if Knox will be cracked to get to the bootloader.. I would wait and see how it goes. The new HTC one may be a better route. I know you can use bootstrap to run customs Roms. I just don't think they run as good as when you have an unlocked bootloader.

I played with an S5 in Best Buy yesterday. Definitely a downgrade. It's still stuttery like other galaxy phones, the new touch wiz leaves a lot to be desired. The only thing in my opinion that the s5 does better than the nexus is the camera. The only thing I personally would upgrade to would be the new HTC one at this point. I played with one of those too, very nice.

do you really want to change your $350 phone for a $600+ phone with nearly the same specs, some more gimmicks and a fugly UI? what will you use the extra 200MHz for? you wont feel the difference between the N5 and S5. well, maybe the N5 will feel smoother, since the new samsung crap UI appears to be choppy at some points. Quite honestly, after all the issues I had with samsung, I'd never consider going back to their devices. nuh uh.
If I got an S5 for free, I'd sell it then buy the Nexus 5.

Samsung can cripple any device`s speed with TW, i like Sense 100 times better tbh.
i have both a n5 and a s4. sure, by specs, the s4 holds its own, and appears to be better than the n5. but in reality, even with the s4 optimized and all the crap disabled, the s4 tends to lag and stutter. it feels like a phone from a few years ago, by the amount it tends to stutter. it doesnt feel like a phone with the specs it has. the n5 truly blows it away with real time use.

How a snapdragon 600 can be better than snapdragon 800 ???
First, do what you want....we can't decide for you. ?
Second , it seems its getting harder and harder to play with new phones....some may never see root, or there will be complicated hack ways to root. Yes, many have dev type editions....but development for them is slow and limited. (Like moto x say)
So, if you like flashing and playing, the only sure bet now days is a nexus. If you can live with a quiet or non existant development community..... Then there's lots of great phones on the way or out. ?
