New to the HD - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, just traded my S3 for this bad boy and even though I can't unlock the boot loader its still awesome and I love it. I do have it rooted on the latest firmware but like I said, no unlock sadly. How much fun can I actually have with it just rooted but not unlocked?

You can now rest easy knowing that when you turn on your phone you wont be frightened by TouchPiss and the gawd awful button layout.
Now the fun really beings. Make your own mods. No more flashing broken roms and waiting for the dev to fix them. You start with the stable stock rom and mod it. Although my bl is unlocked this is what im doing.

Can I flash things without an unlocked bootloader?? I mainly want a kernel which might not happen. :/

And yea, touchwiz got old. I absolutely love the build quality and screen on this phone!!! Amazing!

Im pretty sure you are sol. Sorry.

Can't flash a different kernel but as mentioned you can do basic mods or even use safestrap and use some of the old roms.

What kind of build prop mods can I do to help with speed?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 4

I don't know about build prop tweaks but have you ditched the stock launcher yet? Nova and Apex are both smoother and faster than the stock one.

It's just a security update from Verizon, not a big deal. If you're rooted it will break root, but just re-run the OCR and you're good to go.
Yea just root after the update. Save yourself possible headaches.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
I would. I couldn't use Smart Actions to acquire a location until AFTER the update.
Updated to 0.7.2 with no issues
I just updated to 0.7.2 OTA from Verizon and it didn't break my root. All the rooted apps still work as they did.
Without rootkeeper?

Actually probably only the radios are different, if this situation is any similar with the D3, it should work minus phone and data
a confirmation from the dev may be needed just to be sure the radios wont fry if flashed with wrong software
Get it working for the Maxx HD!
Radios are deff different and some other stuff

Thanks, hope to see more. I just upgraded from the thunderbolt which has all but vanished from the scene. Loving the battery life on this one...
Updated OP with new CM10 version.
Has anyone worked out the difference between the international xt925 (unlocked loader) and the XT926?

Tried to flash using TWRP then CWM and got errors both time. Anyone get this to work.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
Yea, it works. What was your process?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
Wipe data/reset.
Flash ROM
Then it errored.

I get "No MD5 file found"
Sy link: some symlink failed.
Unable to mount system.
Trying to flash 11.16 CM10
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
Did you check the MD5 of the download before you began? Is your boot loader unlocked? Are you on stock ICS or JB leak? Did you use Voodoo OTA rootkeeper for any reason? All shots in the dark... worked OK for me on stock rooted 4.0.4.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
I'm unlocked.
On Jelly Bean leak
Yes I have Vodoo Root Keeper.
For some reason I thought I needed to be on Jelly Bean leak.
Could it be root keeper causing the problems?

Another question since I see your name in a lot of good info. I thought I saw somewhere about replacing that stupid unlock warning with the Motorola symbol again.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
Not sure about this but make a backup of your current state (you probably already have) then in Voodoo app delete the SU backup then try again. Also I'm not sure if it can be installed on JB leak (not saying don't do it, I'm saying I don't know.)
@dhacker29 or @Hashcode0f via twitter will be able to answer your questions if my suggestion doesnt work.
EDIT: just updated the OP with his download page... There seems to be a newer version out anyway, try them.
Thanks

Did this work for you? Did you remove Voodoo root keeper? I have trouble like you trying to install this rom

Rooting jb with maxx hd preloaded with jb

Im getting my maxx hd in two days and noticed some ways to root on ics. If i get my maxx and its preloaded with jb can i still use matts utility to fastboot back to ics and get root then use rootkeeper?
Thanks!
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda app-developers app
It will probably come pre-loaded with ICS but if for some reason it comes with JB then yes you can restore back to ICS and root. Enjoy
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
I just got my good old RAZR Maxx HD after a repair and they already upgraded it to jb 4.1.1 (when I shipped, he had ICS). Is it possible to go back to ICS now? Anyone has done it? Thanks in advance.

Yes sir it is! Just Google matts utility and download that. Make sure to backup all your data before you restore your phone back to ICS. Enjoy!

Thanks man... but other people say it's impossible to downgrade to ICS once u had stock jb. How can I do it without bricking my spanking new Droid?

Other people don't know what they are talking about haha. I have been restored back to ICS multiple times. Use Matt's utility and I am sure you will not have any problems whatsoever.

Can I have stock everything and swap just the kernel?

I looked and I am sorry if I missed it but what I would like to do is...
RAZR HD stock.
Freeze the bloat. VZW
Flash a faster kernel to further improve performance.
Still maintain full function.
Any help is very much appreciated.

I am also interested in finding out if this is possible.
Also, any kennels for liquidsmooth rom out there?
Sent from my XT925 using xda premium
You could if there were other blur kernel options and you were rooted with an unlocked bootloader.

[Q] verizon moto g - kitkat?

I have called customer service but they said prepaid isn't there focus :/ so uhhh... What? We just get screwed? How hard is it to release kitkat? Its out for every other carrier! Sorry I'm just so frustrated I can't reach anyone at Verizon that seams to know anything. My Verizon store didn't even know what a moto g was how do we get kitkat and will anyone ever get the boot loaderunlocked?
I've been wondering as well hopefully the answer isn't never. We shall see what kind of influence Motorola has over this device.
Sent from my Nexus 5
Unfortunately, Motorola has no say since Verizon is the one that also forced Motorola to keep the bootloader locked
Sent from my XT1028 using xda app-developers app
I'm impatiently waiting for the update as well. Verizon has officially stated "a 4.4 KitKat update is planned for the near future" (via SlashGear) so it is almost definitely coming.
Do you think anyone will figure out how to unlock the boot loader?
Stock ROM was mentioned somewhere... But maybe Motorola will decide to unlock it, cause right now they are acting like Verizon owns them

Why are you all waiting for kitkat? What feature are you missing? All I've experienced with kitkat is the loss of flash. You can kinda sorta get flash back, but it's a hacked version and not 100%. You can use the Google experience launcher on jellybean, just search for the app and install. I have a Nexus 7 and removed kitkat because it wouldn't play nice with my Kinivio blue tooth. Jellybean works fine. Other blue tooth players work fine with kitkat, just not that one for some reason. (Disconnects and inconsistent performance on kitkat).
Anyway, just saying; be careful what you wish for. Newer is not always better.

That's a good reason. I didn't remember having that on stock kit kat (uninstalled too quickly), but I do hide my navigation keys on jellybean. Of course we need root for that...
OK, now I have to join in wishing for root!

We would need 2ndinit for moto g, that would enable cwm/root without unlocking bootloader. I own a Moto Defy too, it has locked bootloader, with 2ndinit I have cwm and custom rom on it.

Has anyone gotten ahold of Hashcode? I'm sure it'd be easy enough for us to fund getting him a vzw moto g.

The Verizon Moto G bootloader can't be unlocked, but the Boost Mobile one can? Makes me very glad I'm not with Verizon.
But at least the Verizon one gets signal in every place that boost doesn't
Sent from my XT1028 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I am very jealous I can not unlock/root the Verizon Moto G (xt1028). These app updates I would love to intergrate into system, to free up that space. 8GB is not much and it sucks having a good chunck of that used because of updates. Using Xposed to add a few features to the stock rom I want, would also be great.
