[Q] lost root access on my Xoom - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a stingray, Moto Xoom running Team eos 4 (build 197). I was trying to update the binary in SuperSU and when it failed I no longer had root access. SuperSU 1.51 is installed, the superuser binary is installed, busybox binary and Busybox applets are installed. Root access is "not available".
I have TWRP installed and have back ups of a previous build (190)
Any ideas how I can recover from this?

Usually when this happens to me (Wingray) I would reflash the ROM and check if root access is back. If it's not (Usually is), I would restore to previous build, wipe /system along with cache and davlik-cache and flash the ROM again. If root's still unavailable, I would attempt a clean flash (Wipe Data/Factory Reset, wipe Cache, wipe Davlik-cache, wipe System, flash ROM&GAPPS) and check again. Finally, if it's still not available, I would unroot, lock bootloader, return to stock, unlock bootloader, and root again.
Or you can disregard everything I said above, restore your backup, and stay on it

Thanks, re-flashing the same build fixed it.; However, if I open superSU, it still wants to update the binary, if I use either of the 2 methods it has to update, it loses the root access again.

Did you attempt to update the binary using one of the two methods after reflashing the same build? In my experience, the update is usually successful after reflashing. Try updating the binary and report if root access remains or is lost.

Immediately after re-flashing the same build (197), wiping Dalvik and cache, I checked for root using one of the root checker apps. Root was successful and root access was restored. I then opened SuperSu and got the notice saying binary needed updating. If I used, what they called the "normal" method the installation failed. If I use the CWM/TWRP method, the xoom reboots into TWRP and then does something that has text flash by, too fast too read, and reboots into the system. At that point root access is gone.

Try a clean flash and see if root access is kept or lost.

I got root access back by reflashing the last Team Eos 4 stingray ROM, 197. But, I am still unable to update the binaries in SuperSU. There seem to be a lot of folks that run into this issue with SuperSU.:crying:

[Q] lost root access

Somewhere along the way I lost root access. I have tried all options that I can come up with
1. Reinstall su.zip still get an error trying to update binary
2. Full factory reset/wipe reinstall ROM, gapps and su.zip, still not fixed.
I also get errors trying to backup current ROM. I am assuming this is due to not having root access.
Please help.

OTA XNPH30O Root Issues

Hello Everyone,
I have been having weird issues with root on the latest OTA update. After the update, I found that I lost root and so installed the SuperSu using TWRP recovery again. However, could not get root access back. Tried this like 3-4 times but still didn't work.
After that I took a nandroid backup (didn't have any backup till now) and wiped the cache and data. And after reboot I get root but if I restore the data partition from the nandroid backup, root is lost again.
Now I want root but don't want to get rid of the data.
Also, if its useful anyhow, in the superuser app - under su binary v2.00 "-rwxr-xr-x" is red, "root root" is green and "/system/xbin/su" is green.
Anyhelp will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Well, best way to root would be solid in losing the data and unlocking the bootloader, guaranteed to wipe you data. I'd copy your sdcard to your pc then copy it back after rooting.
You can head to the dev section to find a root and there is a method actually where they say you don't lose data; you can check that out.
Have you tried flashing SuperSU via TWRP instead and letting it update the binaries?

OP1: messed up with Non-Clean CM13 Update and Superuser problems

Hi Guys,
Yesterday I updated to CM13 Nightly without wiping and doing it right, because I do have a very customized UI and didn't want to lose, since the backups doesn't keep everything inthe right place (at least for me!)
ANYWAY I installed CM13 and booted the system, everything was OK, but the phone appeared not be rooted, well I needed to reflash the SU binary, so I did, but in superexcited manner, got an old version (1,51 ) and apparently it has messed everything up… Now the phone is still not rooted, all the Apps close frequently, Superuser Access Management doesn't work, I can't even remove it (only deactivate), I tried to flash the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip too, it made my phone hang in CM Logo·…I can literally boot the TWRP Recovery and Wipe everything and make a tidy install but I DON'T WANT! I'D RATHER TO REPAIR !
What are your certain solutions? please reply If you KNOW how to FIX such cases… No randomly try this try that, Thank you all!
Summary:
Oneplus One: CM12.1 dirty update → CM13/ Superuser/root access has been overwritten/damaged
First attempt made me install an older su binary v1.51 (don't know why!) and it is stuck into my system, doesn't let to uninstall or update (from apps manager/Play Store)
Reflashed the current version (su 2.45) and can't boot up (CM logo)
Can reboot recovery / Don't want to Wipe
Did you flash v6.0 gapps immediately after flashing the ROM?
You're not supposed to flash SuperSU with MM, it comes fully prerooted.

yes I did, but Superuser (#) needed to update and it couldn't neither normal nor in recovery, so i downloaded the latest binary and flashed it manually… but they seem not matching probably
Simple answer - clean flash and start again, with no SU and the correct gapps.

It will be the last option.
As mentioned above, i will try to keep my data

I can't seem to root my Galaxy S8+

Hello,
I'm trying to root my phone, I've rooted before without any issue but this time I don't know why it won't work or what I'm doing wrong.
This is the current situation:
I just now flashed the december security patch and wanted to root again. So, I flashed TWRP, changed the file system of DATA to exFAT and then back to EXT4 (as for some reason it always fails to mount), I flashed magisk v15.2 along with the no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0. As far as I know, this is all the right way to root my phone but everytime I try to actually boot into the phone, I can't because of the "Unable to restart your device. The integrity verification has failed. (..)"
Any idea what I'm doing wrong or what I can do to fix this?
I had issues with mounting after TWRP install, i got around this by installing the TWRP app when rebooting to TWRP.

That's not the problem though, I fixed that by changing the file system and changing it back. I still can't root however.

[Q] Deleted SuperSU

I have a Shield Tablet K1 running LineageOS 14.1 9/1 update(very nice) and cannot get TiBU to run keeps crapping out "Titanium Backup has stopped". Not sure why i did it but i deleted SuperSU.
Tried flashing Supersu (UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214) from TWRP and it installs correctly but still no supersu app. Tried flashing again after wiping caches no help.
Also which version of the supersu should we flash the 32 or 64 bit?
Ultimately trying to get TiBu running again to restore and app & data. Also cannot get Helium to work stuck in "Checking Superuser".
I have been able to verify that i have root via TWRP and FX File explore.
Thanks for the help in advance.
You can download and install the SuperSU application and run it. Go into the settings and select "install SuperSU as a system app". That should do it. You can also switch to magisk which works just as well.
Dirty flash Lineage and start over (flash SuperSU again). Things can get a little quirky when trying to re-flash root to a device that is already rooted. Try Magisk for that matter. It tends to give less problems than SuperSU. I migrated to Magisk a year or so ago, an haven't looked back.
I went ahead and reflashed everything and started from scratch. Working correctly now.
Thanks for the replies!
