Hello I am experencing a really weird sound that randomly happens on my skyrocket that doesnt seem to be associated with anything. I am on slim bean build 7. I have turned off nfc because I thought that might be it but it was not. Any thoughts?
What is the sound, is it a notification sound, or a system sound?

No clue, just a random sound that I never herd before. Doesnt matter if the phone is pluged it or not, if the battery is full or almost empty, still happens. I'll try and record it.

Haha! Should prove to be fun since it's been happening randomly. Let me know if you catch it and we'll see if we can't figure it out.

Do you have any Voip apps? Social apps? Most voip or social apps (Viber,Facebook,Skype, etc) have their own preset notification sound. If you have any of these apps check the settings. Turn off notifications for those types of apps maybe?

I have user superclean and pick n pack roms and tried several kernels but for some reason when I get a notification the sound is extremely laggy and weird sounding I t doesn't do it as bad if the screen is awake but when its off its real bad. Ive even tried moving the tones to the phone memory under notification sounds and its still the same way. It doesn't do this on phone calls just notifications. Is there something in the voodoo control app causing this? I had replaced my old showcase with this new one as I messed the other one up and I never had this problem with it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have had that happen a few times but not consistently. A battery pull usually takes care of it for me.

Yeah ive tried that and it seems to make it better for z little bit but then starts happening again

Anyone else have this problem? Can't imagine I'm missing a setting.... Mute generally means mute.
According the this screen shot all sound should be off, correct. Dumb question but I want to make sure I'm not missing something.

So, I'm the only lucky one with this problem? It's not a big enough deal to return to it but it is annoying.

I have this same problem with my sgs 3. It's really annoying i had checked everything but notification kkeeps popping up even when i have read all my emails next messages.

Okay, sounds will not shut off no matter which method I try. Any ideas? Factory reset my week old phone
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Audio manager from the play store effectively shuts the sound off if anyone else has this problem.

Samsung wants me to send the phone in to fix this but I'm not sure being without a phone for a week or more is worth. Plus, I'm pretty sure if I install a custom ROM this problem will disappear. I'm frustrated, this is a stupid easy problem to fix (with an app) but a BRAND NEW phone should not have this problem to begin with. I wonder if I flashed the stock rom on top of the stock rom (lol) if that would work? Only one other person has this problem?
factory reset should fix your problem.

As a workaround you can choose "Silent" as your Notification sound.
If you only need this functionality at work for example look at Llama that will allow you to configure it very easy.

I've tried Llama before but really didn't look into it too far. Where I work is only about 3 miles from my house so I'm bouncing off the same tower in both places..... Did not work too well with Llama. Can someone check if there volume shows the same as mine when set on mute? The only thing muting is the ring tone. Just curious...

I see the same thing if I set the phone for Silent mode.
There's all different notification sound settings in this phone, I've noticed - my email accounts have their own notification settings per account, messaging has its setting, etc.
Maybe Silent mode primarily silences ringtones and doesn't prevent separate apps from making sounds? Which types of notifications continue to make sounds?
- ooofest
All of them. Anything not set to silent (email, text, messaging, etc) makes a audible notification when the phone is set on mute. Also, when my phone is set on vibrate I also have audible notifications.

From the User Manual, pg 124:
Use Silent modes to temporarily silence the sounds your
phone makes, except for media playback and alarms, or
replace them with vibration.

So, it doesn't seem to claim affecting your sounds beyond the ringer and maybe keypad noises or similar. Working as designed, it seems (not that I agree with their design, in this case).
- ooofest
To me that means it should silence notifications since it's not "media" or "alarm"? I'm just going to buy sound manager since it has more options anyway..... $2.99 to end my frustration with this

I would classify "alarm" as notifications, in trying to interpret their jargon for the context given.
Yeah, an app which can configure sounds across all your apps and settings seems best, here.

Appreciate you looking that up in the manual. I actually downloaded it after your post . I bought the app and set my work and mute profiles... Nice app. I know this is stupid thing to worry about but it gets frustrating when I get woke up or a notification goes off during a meeting. Silent on the sound manager app silences everything.

I know this is an old post but thanks for the tip. I was in class last night and someone was giving a speech and all of a sudden my phone starts whistling. I thought it was in mute, apparently the notifications were not. I'll give sound manager a try.
Actually I've had no problems since the jelly bean update.

Hmm, mine was still having the issue, even after I installed Sound Manager that you suggested. I found one "AudioMuter" that worked perfect for me for 0.99.

heres a weird one that may only bug me.
I stream the Sirius xm radio app all day through my phone while im at work.
When I get a phone call the app pauses for the phone to ring and phone call to happen.
when i finish the call , the Sirius app is supposed to restart where it left off.
It works about 20 percent of the time with my VERIZON GS3.
I often have to completely exit the app and restart it to get the app to work at all.
I take 10-15 calls a day so it becomes frustrating and distracting to have to mess with my phone after every call.
the app works perfectly on every phone ive had.
razrmaxx gnex charge no problems.
same problem with stock or with any of the stock ROMS.
with or without imo kernel.
It doesnt happen all the time but MOST of the time.
Anyone have any ideas how i would begin to fix this?
thanks!
bump
Anyone?
I don't think it's the app all music players do this on gs3 it's a known issue. For me Pandora doesn't start back playing music. Try unplugging head phones then plug back in and hit play in the app again.

Is anyone else hearing a random beeping, maybe 10 second intrvals, whether charging or not? I initially thought it was some type of notification for roaming, but I checked when it was doing it and I was not roaming. Nothing to do with wifi either as it's happened whether turned on or off, connected or not. I believe it is some type of notification, but I just can't figure what it is for. It's not any of the installed notification sounds, so not some type of default that I could have missed. It's annoying, random, and frustrating me.........Restart or battery pully won't make it stop.

Lol u gotta admit his response even tho asshole-ish was at least a lil bit funny. But about ur problem no I'm not getting that or have ever got that. If its not an installed sound then its definitely an app.
But beeping at 10 second intervals is crazy that means if its really an app then its updating a little bit too much.
Why Dont you uninstall ur apps one at a time and see which one fixes the problem when removed?

Saw this in another thread. People say they stopped this with a reboot. The cause is being looked into. Hope this helps.
Yeah, I'll be a lot clearer on my wording going forward!!!!
I've tried everything suggested here, no luck. Can't replicate it, reboot-reset-battery pull won't stop it. I do believe it has something to do with Mobile Network State. Settings/About Device/Status. MNS is disconnected, no beeping. Last time it did it I checked there thinking it was roaming notification. Was not roaming, but MNS showed as connected. Beeping stopped when that eventually went back to disconnected. I'm using Synergy Rom,r60.
Anyone else having a problem with their sounds after "un-muting" the phone? Example being I mute the phone at night or for a meeting, then when I turn the volume back up I notice my sounds for texts, fb, emails, etc do not work anymore, and I have to go back and manually reset them. The phone ringer does still work though. Just curious if it's something I am doing wrong or have overlooked. Not rooted or unlocked. Yet.
My phone does the same thing with the sounds. Except ive never muted my phone and im unlocked and rooted

The only thing I've noticed about sound is that ringtones and notifications go thru the head phones or bluetooth device when one is connected, instead of the back speaker.
Further Observations
Last night I tried turning the volume down to the lowest setting, but that was no good either. Today I have received a handfull of emails with no sound at all after I turned the volume back up. I can't verify texts yet as I haven't received any to this point. If it makes a difference or not these are all custom alerts or tones, not "factory" sounds.
Mine r factory tones i still hav the problem. I believe its a software issue the brand new phones have

Moto or ICS?
Hypothesis
After several weeks, I think I may have figured it out somewhat, at least for me. It seems if I have the phone plugged into my computer usb either in mass storage or media mode, and get an alert of some kind (sms, email, etc) it will cause the sounds issue. If I just use the wall charger, I don't seem to get the sounds issue.
