[WIKI] Android Wiki - Android General

As a previous maemo and iOS user, there was always an organized knowledge base where everything was sorted. From developer tools to user how-tos, to hacks and exploits, everything was documented in a wiki.
Although the userbase on xda is awesome, most of the information on the site is scattered; you have to go through hoops and loops to find something, and the post you found by googling might have been outdated.
I wanted to fix that, so I started Android Wiki, an encyclopedia based on MediaWiki (the software Wikipedia uses). It runs off my own personal server, if this ever takes off, I'll move it to a dedicated server.
Right now, the wiki has only one page about the Xposed Framework (as an example in my head of what this would look like [REDACTED]).
I'd really appreciate it if users can add more info to the wiki, this might help reduce questions asked in threads, and time wasted looking for stuff.
Here's a link to the wiki:

ROM Comparisons table (much needed)

I have been recently going through the enormous amounts of information on this site, and everything seems to be very useful, but things are hard to find.
I remember looking for modchips for my old xbox and came across a site that had a tabulated format for the different chips that are out there. I would it very very useful. May be someone with could create a thread in the Wizard section and sticky it to the main page.
This was the site I was talking about. http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips4_table.htm
since there are the many excellent ROMs like:
5.2.1413 mUn Base - Pandora 02.x2 ROM Beta
FARIA-HTC WIZARD FINAL ROM WITH Pro Rom Kitchen...build the ROM as you like!
Crossbow Reloaded 1.7
If we could have one central location with the comparisons of the utilities in each ROM and the Registry fixes, many might find this info useful.
I could help if possibly
Thanks
this is covered in this thread

Willing to help
Both initiatives are great and donĀ“t fight eachother, this one complements yours sandrobber, perhaps it can be added another row for this one to your poll?
I would suggest (with formatting and all) that you use the WiKi for something like this. You can have a thread here that then takes you to the WiKi page(s). Heck, even a seperate WiKi page for each rom that is maintained by the ROM cookers and their "fans" might be worthwhile (I've thought about setting up a Wiki page for my roms in the past, but just never did follow through with it. I think Faria's AKU 3.3 has a Wiki page where it lists known issues and fixes.)
One of the benefits with using the Wiki is that anyone can maintain it (unlike the first posts in the forums which can only be maintained by the OP).
Use the right tool

Click to collapse
Exactly. A forum is great for Q&A, but terrible for finding information.
You can create ROM comparison tables using a specialized comparison table web app. Here's one I used to compare Galaxy S5 ROMs.

Terms and Acronyms WIKI

Hey guys, i've been following this forum for the last few weeks and i always find more and more terms that i need to investigate
terms like
fastboot
nandroid
recovery image
etc...
now don't get me wrong, i can google like the best of them, but i was wondering - is there some kind of wiki or central repository we (as first time readers) can look at whenever we are lost?
just a thought...
Every phone family on xda-developers forums has a corresponding wiki entry. Some phones do have a listing of common abbreviations, acronyms, and terms used around that phone.
Since this is probably as central a site to G1 modification as you can get, it's probably the best (only) place you'd find something like that. But it's not here (yet).
Wiki editing is open to all members. It might be a bit too much to expect those doing the bulk of the modding work to write their wiki pages as well. When you do your research and find out what the terms mean, why not try your hand at wiki editing and help out the next guy?

I need major help!

This is my first windows mobile and im struggling to understand a lot of the jargon that is on this website, also struggling to find out were the apps are to download???? thanks
Fear not ...
A good place to start understanding things is the Wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/ there's a glossary, FAQs and a whole bunch of other useful info
For the apps, well there are many in this very section, also have a look in there http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=528 for more generic WinMo stuff (some of which may or may not work on the HD2, read the threads first )
Apart from here, there are plenty of places to get freeware or paid-for software from, Google will help you find them . Also a form of XDA-Marketplace is currently being worked on, more info on that here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611653&highlight=xda+marketplace
Edit: make a note of your OS, ROM and Manila version - stuff which works for some variants may not work for some others. To check that, go to Settings> About Phone> Software Information
There is a few websites out there for applications, one of which has its own catalogue style application for easy browsing:

Job Posting Share: Android Developer

I found this listing while applying for a position in the consulting and finance industries and it looked like something one of the Devs here might be interested in.
I don't know if I'm allowed to do this, so if a MOD could set me a pm if not, I'll happily remove this posting so you don't have to.
ANDROID DEVELOPER needed for the development of interfaces with Web Services using Android API. The term of the project will be long term if the candidate performs well.
The rest of the posting can be found in the zip file below. There is a pdf of the posting at the University of Rochester Career search site, as well as the posting's original listing at Dice.com, which I find easier to read.

Learning to Develop for the Android Platform

I'm a college student, Just finished a C programming, and Intro Java Class, ( i am starting a CSE minor at UCSD which i plan to finish by summer), relatively intelligent, very interested in technology.
What do I need to learn? Are there any books/textbooks anyone could recommend i read or follow to help me learn?
Im interested in developing apps and also custom roms!
I have just set up Eclipse and the Android SDK on my Mac. I know about the tutorials on googles developer site, i am just starting these but it seems like they require so prerequisite knowledge. I notices that the code in the my first app look alot like java. (if it isnt completely java)
Any other ideas or links anyone can share?
Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
Hi frarredo,
Make the tutorials from android-developers web site is a good start point, and in my opinion, you should use the android-developers web site always as the main reference to build your android applications. However, you have very good references in the internet like Vogela tutorials and others.
My first advice to you is: start reading the android documentation before you start the implementation process. You do not need to read all the documentation and can give a quick read to get a general idea. But, is very important that you understand some basic Android concepts. As you said, the tutorials seem to require some previous knowledge. If you read, it is much easy to understand what you are doing
I know that sometimes this is boring but is really very important.
The android-developers have a very good documentation, so take a look at: developer. android. com/ guide/ components
(I can not post links yet, sorry)
If you want to know more about Android and in the future build custom roms or whatever, I suggest you to read a very good book: Embebed Android from Karim Yaghmour.
Last, but not least, you have all the forums from xda
