[Q] Sync Phone Calendar to Google Calendar? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I make a change to my schedule and appointments on my phone through my calendar, is there a way to make it sync automatically to the account that's linked to it; i.e., Google? If there is a way to do this that'd be great because I'd want my schedule for work backed up somewhere when I make changes on the fly. If I lose my phone then I lose all my important appointments (unless of course I write them all down and keep a booklet with me). Thanks in advance.

If you use the stock calendar app it links directly to your Google account. I have three accounts on my phone, and it shows all three calendars.

Active syncing through work- Can I still merge google contacts/calendar?

I have to activesync through work, but miss my google contacts/calendar updating- Is there a solution? Free would be great! Thanks in advance.
might wanna play around with seven beta
www.community.seven.com
they have some software you can run on your desktop system that will let you get your email im not sure if it will let you sync multiple calendars and contacts
but it does let you do a global search on contacts from all the email accounts you plugin
i'm a big fan of google contacts/calendar and use it with this software along with two other gmail accounts and exchange account from work
should check it out only thing is they charge you international text message everytime you set up the software
but after reading around i was able to figure out how to get around it setup all the accounts that you want and then if you are a heavy flasher like myself back up the sever directory in /application data on your phone (i use pim backup)
then when you flash restore the folder with pim backup or whatever you use and then reinstall the cab give it a few minutes after you reinstall should see your email accounts and you might have to refresh the data to get everything to sync back up it takes a while but it's better then payin for an international text message in my book
Honestly, I had my work calendar and tasks syncing with my Gmail email and Contacts for the longest time. Accidentally, I merged my work calendar into Gmail, and it RESENT EVERY SINGLE APPOINTMENT ON MY CALENDAR WITH ME AS THE ORGANIZER AND EFFED A TON OF MEETINGS UP. I havent done it in a while. let me get the process down and Ill let you know how i did it.
If there is a solution out there I would like to try it or at least know.
Its driving me crazy trying to keep up with my Google contacts ever since I stopped syncing them. My ideal situation is:
Sync Google contacts only
Sync work calendar and Google calendar
Access work email and Google( able to do this)
Thanks in advance

[Q] Annoying things (alternatives/help?)

Recently purchased the Samsung Omnia 7, while I know this is still is a up and coming OS I was hoping someone could help me to make do of it for the time being…
My main issue; is the People hubs, it seems to add all my email accounts and inorder for me to get to a certain phone number I have to go through endless email address.
Is there anyway I can change settings so the People hub just displays phonebook contacts and not email address?
If no is there any applications as a simple phone book?
Other small issue, the screensaver can I disable the time and date? So it just displays the wall paper?
Many thanks in advance
1. nope. it will pull all your contacts for every account you add. i know what you mean as well in terms of that. the reason that there aren't any apps either is because there is no PIM API to access your contacts. so without this, there isn't yet an alternative to that. you can however quick jump the list by tapping on the accent colour square seperating each list group (looks like a [#] or [a] or ). and then quick jump to where you want. or you can hit the search button whilst on people hub to do a quick search.
2. again nope. this is how it is for all windows phones at present and i don't think it's going to change (add customisations) any time soon, unless we truly get a full jailbreak (dev unlocking is only thing rocking at the moment).
you can't disable contacts syncing from the primary live account. but you can for secondary ones. What i did was basically create a seperate wp7 live account and uploaded only the contacts that I wanted. Entered it as the primary account, which syncs all the contacts. I then disable email for the primary account.
Enter my proper hotmail account. Disable the contacts, calendar sync and enable only the emails. Rename it from Hotmail 2 to Hotmail.
That should get the job done.

[Q] contacts will not sync to google

my wife got a new d2g and the contacts wont sync to Google. this is the second phone she got in less than a week do to other problems, and the phone before this would not sync either. and it is just the contacts, the calender and the gmail sync fine. under the google account on the phone all the options are checked to sync and it shows the arrows that its trying to sync but when i look online there are no contacts. any ideas?
I'm pretty sure that it's considered normal behaviour. If the contacts weren't added manually after setting up a Google account on the phone, they won't sync, or at least that's what I have here.
My dx sync just fine and I set it up the same way. Not sure what the deal is.

Ok gonna take a wild guess here and say that you had the carrier transfer contacts from the old phone to the D2G and that would explian why they do not sync.
Look at the contacts (might have to go into edit mode) and see what "PROFILE" it says for each contact.
My guess is it says Phone Only.
What you need to do (and I'm going off memory since I am not running stock myself)
Edit each contact and in the menu there should be something that says NEW contact that will take the info from the one you are editing but ask you which account to make the new contact for. Select your GMail acct when asked and save it.
Then fine the gmail version of the contact you just made and select join or link and link it to the Phone only version.
This will give you one contact that has two profiles, phone only and Gmail.
What I suggest for anyone moving to Android for the first time is to get all your contacts into GMail (using above method) Import all your facebook contacts as well (You can do that through Yahoo Mail wizard and exporting to CSV then i8mporting into Gmail) and once your GMail has a complete and accurate contact list wipe the data on the phone and sync with Gmail to get all your contacts back. Be sure to make a backup of all your contacts on GMail once you are done to guard against future corruption issues and to be safe.
Cloud Contacts is not one of the best features of the phone but once you have integrated all your current contacts into GMail and joined them and Facebook into a proper list it is not a problem anymore.

How to "best" use Calendar(s) and Contacts

I have some questions regarding how to "best" use the calendar(s) and Contacts.
I want everything in one Calendar, so I've currently settled to showing only my Exchange (Outlook) calendar on my phone. I set up Google's Sync program on my work PC to update my Outlook calendar and Google Calendar, so I can read/edit it on my PC at home. After a number of missed meetings (and angry boss) I set this to a one-way push from Outlook to Google. No more missing entries. This means I cannot edit my calendar on my PC at home. How do I best view/use/edit a single calendar on my phone, Exchange, and my home PC?
Contacts are confusing to me. I don't fully understand how to think of them. I have ~500 contacts from Outlook, most of which were pushed to GMail. When I first started to use the phone and log in to Facebook, etc. I was prompted to "link" contact IDs. After linking a few hundred I though I was OK, but none of the newer contact pictures on my phone have been synced with Outlook. How do I sync this information? I PRESUME that linking really keeps multiple entries for a person with some fields from each source? What really happening when I "link" and how can I "merge" them instead? I'm most interested in "pushing" new/updated pictures to my outlook contacts.
Thanks in advance,

Time zones
In outlook, as well as on the phone's calendar application, you have the option to specify the time zone for the calendar entry. Simple and straight forward.

I'm confused. Why don't you just setup your exchange account on the phone and keep it separate from your gmail calendar? This way you don't have to sync outlook calendar with gmail calendar and you can still view/edit on phone. Yes you won't be able to view/edit from home pc but I'm not sure why would you want to do that?
The contacts are only linked, they are not merged (even though they show up as merged on the phone) so the pictures from Facebook for example won't be updated on your outlook. If you were to remove your Facebook account in your phone, you will lose all the pictures and other info that came from Facebook. It is built this way for privacy reasons so Google doesn't steal Facebook contact data and vice versa.

This software (called Fonebook) should allow you to update Outlook contacts with corresponding pictures from Facebook.

When I'm home I want to view my Calendar on the big screen of my PC. 14" is MUCH better than 3.7"
Sometimes I want to edit a Calendar entry when I'm home (e.g. add an entry with a long text note) which is a pain to do on the handset.
My N900 had an App to copy contact pictures from Facebook, etc. onto the handset's contacts, which were then sync'ed to Outlook. Is there an app with similar functionality for Android?
Thanks
Is there new software that will sync my Outlook calendar to Google Cal without me getting chewed out by my Boss for missing meetings?

Yes, outlook changes all of the entries according to changing time zones.
I want to enter my 9:30 return flight (when I'm booking, before travel) as 9:30. Outlook assumes I'll enter it as 6:30 since I'm in PDT and the airport is in EDT. I'm trying to use entries that are all local time. If I have connecting flights I need to pre-compute different offsets. Too easy to mess up and miss a flight.
I been trying different scenarios to see why your appointments are getting shifted but everything is working for me the way it should as long as I specify the time zone for the appointment and not accept the default time zone that Outlook or Google calendar suggests (they default to current time zone). Do you do that on your end or do you just enter start/end time for the appointment without along with the rest of the appointment details without changing the time zone?

Sync Facebook data into Gmail contacts

Something that has been bugging me is the way Facebook and Google don't play nicely when it comes to contact syncing.
In the past it wasn't really a big issue as I only used one device and everything just sync'd in the background, now as I prefer to manage all of my contacts via the gmail contacts page, rather than via my phone I set about trying to figure out how I could get both Gmail and Facebook contacts to sync to my Google account.
I tried a few of the tools available, such as ubersync, contacts+ and haxsync, these all do a great job of mixing your Facebook contacts in with your gmail contacts on your device, but they are still treated as seperate when syncing back up to gmail.
I found a way to get around this by using Google's sync along with haxsync and a bit of dirty ol manipulation, and I thought I'd share it if others are wanting to do the same. I take no responsibility if you mess things up, so if you are not confident then make sure you make backups before you start.
Also before you start just realise you will loose any group sorting you may have done but this can be edited again via the gmail contacts pagee quite easily)
First of all, sync all the gmail contacts into your android device from google.
Install Haxsync from the Google Play store (contacts+ and ubersync may give the same results)
Goto advanced settings for haxsync and set things up the way you want (I selected to have the htcdata backup entry put into the notes field, but this is optional)
now sync with haxsync to get all the facebook details and wait for the haxsync to finish.
Now you have all the data into your device if you look at an entry you might see some of the users data is listed under the google account, and other parts are listed under the haxsync account. From here on only the google data will sync back up to google.
Now to perform some manipulation
Go to settings on your android device(s) and disable syncing for both Google and haxsync. (note I said device(s) this means disable sync on all other device you might have that also sync to Google)
Go into People on your main Android device and export your contacts to storage, this will make a vcf file on the Android device containing all of the data for each person (minus the account it's associated with)
On the android device(s) go to settings - applications - contacts storage and clear data- (remember to do this for all android device syncing to google)
load gmail in your web browser on your PC, go to contacts, select them all and delete them.
Now go back into People on the Android device and import the data you saved to your storage.
You will now see you have merged the data that was previously seperated by the gmail and haxsync accounts
Go back into settings on the Android device and re-enable sync for gmail.
Wait for this to finish.
once your device has synced with Google again go into gmail and select contacts
On the left of the page look under 'other contacts' select all of them and choose add to My Contacts.
Now go up to My Contacts and you can start sorting everyone into different groups again if you wish.
Now you have synced both gmail and Facebook information into your gmail account which will flow down to any other Android devices you have.
If you add more people on Facebook and want their data in gmail, you'd have to repeat this process again.
If you decide to re-enable Haxsync again you may need to manually join some of your contacts in your phone again, such as where friends also have Google+ and Facebook accounts under different names.
It's not perfect but if you have 100's of contacts / friends it saves a lot of manual data entry saving everything into gmail.
Good luck and have fun.
