[GUIDE] - A yellow window on Note N8000? - How You solve that. - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here a Little guide How to solve a problem of bad /efs, when You have a yellow window like on Screenshot:
I had THIS serious problem on partition efs and, after solve that, I had also that yellow window.
To get rid of it see on /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode if You have here OFF (edit factorymode whit Root Explorer). Change it to ON (after change must save).
Reboot in Recovery and Wipe Data factory reset, cache, dalvik... done.
See on Settings /About phone /Status if You have imei, Mac WiFi and Serial number.
If You couldn't register to the network may be You not have that. In this case...
Have You a backup from Your /efs folder? If yes copy the contents of it (not the efs folder) to /efs replacing the bad files.
Reboot and everthing should back to normal.
You can see HERE a case solved whit this guide.

How to backup efs folder?

Tried efs pro not work
As i know cwm do not backup efs folder
Tried nitrality did not work
We need to backup efs folder just to be safe while flashing as it contains imei and serial number etc and if lost we will lose connection both wi fi and 3g and our tab will be like a big ipod touch even without wifi (only media no internet or connection at all)

This is what I did on my Galaxy S2 long ago. Use both the backups created by the different commands specified in clean and raw section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068193&highlight=efs+command
Disclaimer: I have never had to recover from this backup, so you might want to do your own research to make sure you got a good backup. The thread I link to might be a good starting point
AnDruid, I've backed up my SGS 1 's /efs folder using the "tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs" command, once rooted, which had all the nv files etc all nicely backed up as explained @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068193&highlight=efs+command
However, I never did the RAW section ... Never did need to revert back though .. or yet. Though I do not see myself ever going back from Jelly (Helly) Bean, only forward. An interesting "fix" I noticed once the SGS got a little "slow", was to boot into CWM and wipe the Dalvic cache and Cache partition.
Once the phone started up again, it did it's "reconfiguration" and once again worked like when I originally upgraded to Helly.
What I expect Mohamed is experiencing though, is the problem I currently have with my Galaxy TAB 2 P5100 which I've rooted as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957165 then using Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich (available from the market), the TAB 2 states that "tar" and "busybox" commands is not available ....
Since I simply can't "yum install tar" or "yum install busybox", I'm a little lost.
Which does raises the question : Mohammed, how did you get past this issue ? Did you backup your TAB 2's (P5100) /efs folder and if so, please advise how.
Though I could "zip" the /efs folder with ES File Explorer, the .zip file does not contain the nv files, which I believe defeats the idea of the backup.
Well, would you believe it's as simple as installing "busybox" from the Play Store ...
Then the "tar" command is available
If your tab is rooted you could use Es File Explorer to manually copy/paste the /efs folder into the /sdcard folder and then copy this onto your computer

Help restoring in TWRP

I've wiped everything in TWRP (factory reset; advanced -> dalvik/system/data/internal/cache; format data), then pushed my backup to /sdcard/. When I go into Restore to reload the backup, it just shows a big gray square with no items. I've tried pushing it to several different locations and restarting TWRP. I finally landed on having the backup folder (named something like 8780a9ypwt98h34) inside the folder called 'TWRP' that TWRP creates upon being booted the first time.
But nothing shows up in the Restore. It's just a big blank square box, where you can tell there should be navigation items like folders and files listed.
Why isn't the backup showing? What do I have to do?
EDIT: just realized TWRP has a file manager. Where do I put the backup (it's a folder named something like 9807a9h9f83fh398). Also, is there a reason that instead Restore listing items like a file manager (like what you see in TWRP when you hit install, or when you go through the TWRP file manager), all it shows is a gray box with no text in/around it?
Hi, I've been using PhilZ recovery for a while but before that I used TWRP and might be able to help if you still need it.
If I'm remembering correctly, TWRP looks for backups in one location and doesn't allow you to navigate to a different directory so it's important to get your backup in just the right spot for it to be recognized.
When I was trying to do exactly what you are, what I found that worked for me was to start by doing a backup before trying to copy the files I actually wanted to restore. Doing that backup to start with allows TWRP to create all the directories it needs to for its static backup location. Once that was done it was easy then to just copy my backup to the proper location.
The directories should be something like this: TWRP > BACKUPS > stringoflettersandnumbers > nameofbackup
Hope this helps.

[Solved] Can't exit Factory Mode - i8262

Hello,
I am exactly not sure how, but right now, I am stuck at Factory Mode. Call, Message, WiFi everything is working.
But there's no lock screen and power menu, it directly reboots phone and there is this yellow overlay of my phone information (attached screenshot). I tried ODIN and flashed the rom, but nothing works. Used my old Nandroid backup. But it's same.
From http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/fixed-exit-factory-mode-t2424015 and http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...10-1-how-exit-factory-mode-into-usermode.html , I tried removing /efs/FactoryApp, but there is no FactoryApp on my efs directory.
Can anyone provide me their efs directory's content? Or any solution, how can I fix this myself?
It's Galaxy Core Duos, i8262.
Problem solved. I just deleted all the content under efs directory. Rebooted my Phone. And God, everything is back to normal.
not working

same problem here
Just browse to ...\efs\FactoryApp with root file manager like Es File Manager, open file named "factorymode" as text with an editor and change state from "OFF" to "ON". On exit save changes, reboot your phone and thats it.
for all those who suffering from that problem ..
i managed to fix it this way ..
1. Extract/Flash Attached file as PDA in Odin ..
2. Root and Check EFS Folder (Now it's not Empty) ..
3. Go to "/efs/FactoryApp/" and open "factorymode" by TEXT Editor ..
4. Change Value "OFF" to "ON" ..
5. Reboot
>>>DONE.
thanks

i had the same promblem with my n7100 and here is how i fixed this efs folder being empty.
1st i reflashed the phone stock firmware then after i rooted phone and installed ES file manager.
2nd NOTE you may be able to see the efs folder but it will be empty unless you enable root access on the ES file manager tool menu.
meanwhile the efs folder will appear as empty but the files will be there. so just have to enable ROOT on the es file manager menu.
thanx

HELP ME!!! build.prop file deletes itself upon reboot!!!

HEY!!
I wanted to change my LCD density on the build.prop file with build.prop Editor. It worked fine.
When I tried to copy the backup back from sdcard and replace the edited build.prop with the stock one, after reboot all I can see is the OnePlus logo with the "POWERED BY ANDROID" text.
I can access TWRP, but when I check the /system directory, there is no build.prop file. So I move it again from sdcard to the /system directory. It stays there until I reboot the phone.
I did EVERYTHING! chmod, mounting, moving using adb shell, and the file just deletes itself when I reboot the phone!!
I don't want to make a factory reset since I don't have a latest backup.
Please don't ask me why did I change the LCD density. I just wanted to check something.
PLEASE HELP!!

I wiped system and pushed an md5 file. Still fails with no reason.
I use this ROM -
https://cyngn.com/products/oneplusone/
(On the bottom)
What error are you getting?.. You could try another download (that one may be corrupt) or CM11 ROM, you should still be able to keep your app data as long as you don't wipe that partition.. You only need to wipe system/dalvik/cache..
Sent from my OnePlus ONE
Are you mounting /system with TWRP before doing that?
Also, dont move the file, try cp which works better with crosslink devices
And try chmod 755 /system/build.prop with adb while in recovery and check the build.prop isnt edited in Windows so EOL is Windows-like, then use Notepad++ to change to UNIX-type
easy, you copy pasted so permissions are not the same as the original
reflash system or rom
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
Yep. Permissions should be rw-r-r (or 644). If you don't know what you're doing don't mess around with system files.

Did you enable root permissions first?
Download es file Explorer, enable root for it from within its menu, open up the correct sequence of folders and it should be there. It won't show up if you skip that step.
I wouldn't do it from the terminal.

I'm sure snoop has posted this in at least 3-5 threads. It's getting quite redundant as this issue seems to be more of an issue than usual
