The Barclays mobile banking app was working on rooted phones until the last update, there is a few work around but the easiest way is to install the last update & unclick auto update in Google play. This is for anyone who has already made the mistake & updated already I can help.
Please don't mirror the download, if you wanna include this in your post just include the link to my post, thanks.
1. Uninstall your app.
2. Download the last working update below.
3. Open & update via a file manager (something like root explorer)
4. & the most important thing.... thank me on this post (Optional)
5. (Optional) Give the bank app a email or comment on Google play so we might get future updates for Rooted users like I did!
Barclays banking app version 1.3.3

you haven't even mentioned how to make the 1.3.3 version work as it still requires the guide i wrote on the other thread.

EDIT: [sarcasm]Yeah thank him for re-uploading a file some 1 else already posted in the other thread and not even posting how to make the 1.3.3 app work as it still needs to be "installed" correctly.[/sarcasm]
So what if i backup my own version and upload it here, is that mirroring, Lol what a stupid thing to say. It's not like it's your app.

Not trying to be *****y but this guy doesn't deserve credits for just uploading a APK which was posted 2 pages back in the above thread and he clearly knew about that thread as has posted in it, The guy i linked above who uploaded it first deserves thanks and so do i for putting the small guide together and so do the people who i gathered the information from.

He does deserve credit & if anyone wants to use his way they can go there, I'm just helping out like we do here on Xda forums, I had the same problem after updating & used my own solution which I provided in post 1, uploaded your own apk isn't mirroring, all my info was my own also my apk. You don't need the guide to make this work like you did, you just unclick auto install & use the 1.3.3 version like I did, I reinstalled mine from titanium after I found the new update unusable on my rooted device.

Your method will only work if they already had the data for the app, but yet there is no mention of this, Fresh install will require the above guide and considering there is no mention of "having to have it installed before" or "how to fix barclays mobile banking app" then it implies that this will make it work on rooted phones just by downloading your APK when this is simply not the case.
Also i know uploading my own apk isn't mirroring however technically it is as the CRC would be identical on both APK's and it seems kinda stupid saying don't mirror but yet they can easily upload the same APK and you wouldn't know.
Changed step 4 to optional due to the comments lol.

You can't find the app or the apk? If you can't find the app try a reboot? Or do you mean you can't find the apk? It should be in your downloads folder?

I cant get the Barclays mobile app to work on my rooted experia z does anyone know if this method still works?
I tryed to install this old version of apk but it doesnt work on rooted phone
@ x7nofate did you try this way which I wrote under here? Or may be if you clear the cache of the app? It will work?
@ xjacko the app still works on my rooted s3
Try install from the market, then open it up, it will say not supported on rooted phones or something like that, then Uninstall it, then download my link & copy it over to your phone, now find it via a file manager app (root explorer, es manager or something like that), install it (or push it to data/app via manager app & then reboot the phone) & then enjoy barclays bank app on a rooted phone, it's the version before so tick don't auto install from the play store or it will update next time you use wifi or mobile data. Or you can also use method 2 in this post by another xda member? Hope this helps you

Please help, I installed the Barclay's app 2 days ago and today I uninstalled it and copied your modified apk to data/app but after copying and restarting my phone the play store auto updated the app.
Now I have barclays-1 and barclays-2 apk in data/app . I've tried deleting my cache and dalvik cache and installing then reuninstalling the official app
I then tried installing the modified apk and restarting but the app won't appear in all apps, please help :/

woohoowoohoo!
Months ago I lost use of mobile banking on my rooted SG Note2, I only had Titanium Backup set to keep one old version, and foolishly ran a backup having auto-updated a bunch of apps and then realised the new version of BMB reported device was rooted.
I tried all sorts of things to get it to work.. I came across many guides suggesting what to do.. and none worked..
* I used the triangleaway fix to make device normal.
* I disabled adb.
* I disabled installation of non-market apps
* I tried hide root programs.
* I renamed the Superuser.apk app to something else
* I renamed /system/xbin/su to something else
* I ensured /system was read only.
* I scanned system and removed any files or apps which had the name "root" or "su" in them and thus might look like root.
I even got to the point where if it weren't for having an active root shell via adb I'd have lost root!.
but nothing worked.
Then I came across this thread. I removed the app installed from Google Play, downloaded the 1.3.3 apk from the link provided, and installed it.
Ironically downloading the banking app from a third party is perhaps the most dangerous thing you could do, and yet Barclays force you in to it!
At some point I imagine they will put something in the internet servers which will deliberately break 1.3.3 and force an upgrade
But in the meanwhile I am very very happy! I will no longer have to carry my PIN Sentry box around with me.

I now have a rooted Xperia Z Ultra, and I have done everything to make this work yet it still says device is rooted. I restored the app from my Note 2 which is rooted and where the app works; so there must be something unusual that the Xperia flags up to tell Barclay's app its rooted.
If you have any ideas, please shout out so I can try them out. I did all the things I previously posted when I was trying to get the newer app to work.
What kind of fool would access their bank account from a hacked program hosted on mediafire uploaded by an unknown person who cannot even say what it is they have done to make it work?
Rofl.
So, I updated to kit kat, only to discover that with the new "Default SMS app" feature, you can't just use old SMS apps. Well, I don't really like using Hangouts as my SMS app, and the stock Mms app lacks quite a few features i really like from CM's Mms app. Plus, I really like dark themes.
Well, of course I simply tried to go ahead and use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745830 , but because that doesn't include the new information, it isn't seen as a possible "Default SMS" app, and can't be used. Well, I wasn't okay with this...
Dug into apktool and messed around in the AndroidManifest.xml, added the appropriate bits and pieces for it to be discovered by 4.4, and recompiled, and then signed. Voila, I have a working, dark themed, CM version of 4.3 Mms, with popups and all. I've tested that both sending and receiving of sms (in app and from popup) and mms all work.
If people are interested, I can post it up for download. Not sure about all the rules though. I assume I'd have to ask for permission from the OP of that thread I linked above?
EDIT:
Okay, so I've got the 4.3 CM messaging app linked from above. I've updated it to work with 4.4 (allowing it to be a "default SMS app") and also went and modified all the smali and xml with a new package name and a couple new authority/provider names to avoid conflict with the stock app.
Final takeaway: a themed, customizable (see settings), popup-enabled, emoji-supporting 4.3 messaging app that not only works on 4.4, but can be installed without root alongside your stock Mms app. Should work on 4.2 and up, on any variant, rooted or unrooted. Simply download, install with adb or by transfering it to the phone and opening on there, and then go to settings->More->Default SMS app and enable this one (the dark icon "Messaging" one).
I tested sending and receiving sms and mms, sms both from app and popup. everything was working fine. If anyone finds an issue just let me know and provide log cat output if you can, or at least a repro case
EDIT2:
Apparently there are still some kinks I need to work out. Will try to look into it this weekend.
EDIT3:
Okay so I did the version that works on 4.4 for rooted users. This one only has the AndroidManifest edits, so there should be no issues with functionality. I've been using it for a bit now and haven't had any issues. The one labeled Mms.apk is for root users (Nothing about installing/using it requires root, but you have to uninstall the stock messaging app to put this one on). The one labeled Mms2.apk is the (currently kinda buggy) version for those without root. That one is still a work in progress.
That would b awesome if u could share , now would this only work if u r rooted?

I haven't tested, but it should work without root. You can install it just like a normal app, and it gets installed to /data/app. I suppose the concern here is getting rid of the old messaging app, which does require root. I'm pretty sure if you tried to install this alongside the stock app, it would complain about having the same package name. I'll test and let you know soon.
Go get this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkleft.eightyeightsms.mms
It works great and has a dark theme option in the settings, the developer pulled the CM MMS app and made it an installable on KitKat and a few tweaks, feels just like the original CM MMS app and even has the quick reply popup option.

The blue drives me nuts now. I really like the monochromatic look of kit kat. I think I'll take this app and theme it the way I want it to look (replacing blues with grays). I'll post that and the 4.3 version I did for anyone that wants it (that one allows color customization directly from the app) later tonight probably

Can the op post up the MMS app you recompiled to work with 4.4?
Sent from my XT1060 using xda app-developers app
Okay, so theming the 4.4 one is a lot more involved than I expected. I did some initial theming with xml values, got all the text the way i wanted it, but there's a lot of images i'd have to edit to get rid of all the blue, and I don't really have time for it right now. I started to, then realized using Paint was a mistake, as all the transparency of the ones I'd edited was gone, which messed up the look. I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually, but for now I'm just going to use the 4.3 Mms I made work with 4.4. Here it is for anyone else that wants it. (Couldn't get attachment to work so here's a zippy share link): http://www58.zippyshare.com/v/36354844/file.html
For some unknown reason, I could not get it to install by cp to /system/app or /system/priv-app and doing chmod, so i made a keystore and signed it and have just been installing it with adb install. You have to uninstall your current stock Mms first though (requires root). I did that by renaming to .bak. I'll see what kind of work might be involved with changing the package name, which would let it be installed alongside the stock app. I tried installing it over the stock with "adb install -r -d Mms.apk", but it complains that it's signed with a different keystore than the currently installed one. If anyone knows how to get the default android keystore I could try signing it with that.
I like this version. I see nothing in the 4.4 Mms app that the 4.3 one does not also have to offer, plus this one has tons of customization, emoji support, etc etc. You can change all the colors of text and background straight from the menu. Until we've got something similar for 4.4 I'll stick to this.
I just noticed a little bug... I installed it on a 4.2.2 device and that device receives messages twice. No issues on 4.4 yet though... I'll look into it.
I got this to install fine, but when i try to send an MMS it FC's on me.

Bizarre... I just uninstalled mine, cleared all data from the stock app in case something was getting cached, and went and downloaded from the link and installed and it works fine for me still...
My setup:
Moto X 4.4 OTA with SlapMyMoto root (meaning 4.2.2 bootloader)
Xposed framework with XBlast and GravityBox
I also installed it on a rooted S4 running 4.2.2 and it worked, although it was receiving messages twice (figured out why, but haven't uploaded that update yet) and a "not responding" message when receiving MMS (though you could then go back into the thread and view it). I've not had any issues on the Moto X though.
I wouldn't imagine that anything in the app would need root, though I'm not gonna unroot to find out. Can you guys post some log cats and i'll look into it?
EDIT:
Just got the mms force close. I'm sure a side effect of blindly find/replacing com.android.mms in the smali. Soon I'll post a version that only has the 4.4 changes for those of you with root, and i'll keep working on the whole package name spoof for those without.
Hello people!
Im facing difficulties using my skygo account on Z1. I always used to view by APP transfered from my nexus 7 (rooted) - It always worked flawlessly. Now I updated by transferring new version and starting the app results in a flashing "hacked" screen. Now while this is an official Version from PlayStore I think its a new thing by Sky itself to make it unusable on unsupported device or something. I tried using apk downloaded from Web with same result.
Now - does anyone have any way to still use sky go on xpetia z1?! Maybe an older version or a workaround??
Edit:
Found solution:
1. Install xposed framework with native hook
2. Install skycast module
3. Reboot
4. Launch SkyGo.
Or just follow instructions for skycast module !!
