[ROM] [02-Sep-13] Gionee E3 [MIUI] [v5 3.8.30] - Miscellaneous Android Development

Introduction
I have ported a version of MIUI from ZOPO C2 to Gionee Elife E3. This is an experiment and do NOT try to install this ROM unless you know what you are doing. I will NOT be responsible for any losses. You are encouraged to share feedback and make it better. This project can't be completed by me alone, hence need your support in development and optimization of the ROM.

Download
E3_3.8.30_nokernel.zip (361.2 MB)
This is based on the MIUI release on 30-Aug-2013.
https://mega.co.nz/#!9Rk0DZrD!SagagmNviGgJOc7-4RLEQnY4UzURqrDYG4jX4evUSDw
The download link does not contain boot.img. If you have a working ROM, then it should not be a problem. Otherwise try restoring boot from the nandroid backup using advanced restore.
Caution: I have not tested boot restore from backup on this ROM. It should work. I was using an old version of my ROM and the phone restarted without issues without boot.img flashed.

This ROM works with QMobile Noir A900 as confirmed by @lalibm. You need to replace boot.img in the zip file with stock boot.img

How did I port this ROM
I took clues from MTK Firmware Adopter tool. The project file for MTK 6589 shows the files it will copy and replace from the stock ROM. I just copied the files which needed to be patched. In case some files are missing in your stock ROM, ignore it. It is not guaranteed to work 100%, but it is worth a try. I tried porting 3-4 ROMs with that method and all of them worked.
Another important thing. I unpacked the stock boot.img and edited init.rc . GIONEE uses their own framework to customize the OS. There are references to that framework in init.rc. I removed that. In fact, if you want to port LeWa, then you will have to replace those lines with lewa specific libraries.
The one attached in the uploaded ROM does not contain references to either lewa or gionee libraries.
Thanks to master back37 for the MTK Firmware Adapter Tool. Although I did not use the tool (linux ), it gave me the idea on how to make the ROM.

Shortcut method to patch
I have made a zip file which contains all the above given zip files. You just need to extract the zip file and copy paste system folder into the target ROM's folder. Let the files in the attached files overwrite those in the respective folders.
You can use the boot.img from the MIUI ROM I have updated.
Tweak/Modify build.prop to suit your requirements.

Future Development
I would request the users who download this ROM to report any issues they face. I will try to rectify those issues to the extent possible.
As far as the future development is concerned, I would like to develop the ROM using patchrom method suggested by MIUI Team, so that we get OTA updates
Please find the code and guide: https://github.com/MiCode/patchrom
Please select jellybean42-mtk branch and read Patchrom Developer Guide.pdf
Update: Now I don't need feel the need for patchrom, since this version is working perfectly for me. I would update this ROM every month, as opposed to every Friday update issued by Xiaomi.

Gionee Elife E3 - Yes
Others - No idea

Has anyone fixed issues with audio not coming through speaker and only through 3.5mm jack? I tried replacing audio*.so files in lib. But it always leads to boot loop.
I am facing this issue with another MIUI port I am working on.

How to update:
1. Boot into CWM
2. Format data/factory reset
3. Update from ZIP
4. Reboot
Known Issues:
I have been using this ROM for over a week now. Have not found any issues apart from the folowing,
1. Cannot set the default data connection - It always uses SIM1 for data connection.
2. Can't mount internal SD card. Only external is mounted. In fact, it is better to say that either can be mounted, but not both

I have not made ROM based on 3.8.16, but has been testing 3.8.9. I feel that 3.8.2 was bit more stable than 3.8.9. I will probably skip .16 and go directly to .20 this Friday.
But the plan is to make something which can be updated via OTA.

Introduction
This is my second ROM release on XDA. I released MIUI v5 earlier, but LeWa was the first ROM I ported. I had given it to some forum members without distributing it widely. That ROM had some issues as well. In the MIUI thread, someone asked me to release LeWa ROM, but I was very comfortable with MIUI. Hence I started a poll and was planning to release LeWa if at least 30 people wanted it. I'm not waiting for the poll to close and is releasing LeWa ROM based on Lenovo S920 (ver 13.09.06).
Features
* Based on LeWa 13.09.06
* Both Internal and External SD Cards work without any issues
* Removed all Chinese Applications
* Removed Chinese Directory Entries
* Improved memory utilization vs. MIUI

Make nandroid backup
Wipe /data partition and /cache partition

I haven't seen a drop or gain in battery life versus other ROMs. But much more memory is free compared to MIUI. But why to keep so much memory when it is available?

Have you tried deodexing?

thanks a lot for such a great support..
thanks for all the effort you put, i have issue with installation.
I downloaded "miui_a117_javajohn_4.2.18_c8e3a6f79b_4.2" rom from miui india official site, i was running lewa5, and i did all the steps for installation as you mention.
But my phone is stuck in boot loop i think(initial micromax M! logo ). I tried it multiple time but still same.
How long does it take to boot for the first time? is there anyway to fix it? any tips about how to check what could be the issue. I don't know much about debugging and all adb stuff but i can follow steps and all.
EDIT:
i get following message will doing reset,
"no app2sd partition found. skipping of /sd-ext"
I don't know if its anything to do with that.

Check if your Downloaded package is fine, sometimes it can be the issue..
We can check it by comparing MD5 unfortunately on mega its not possible.
Another thing, do factory reset and than wipe delvink cache. Then do to mount and storage from there.
format /system
/cache
/data
There is no sd ext partition in your sd card that's why it skip that.
Install package and boot up..
I want to share a problem regarding call volume when using headphones and playing music.
It's a very critical bug, when somebody calls me while m listening to music call volume is very low, many times my mic also do not work (headphone).
Please fix it.

i assume if zip file extract properly without any CRC errors usually means file is intact and same as original.
Is there any initial criteria for installing this rom? like i said i was running Lewa5 then i wanted to try miui. Right now i'm running "Tweaked Deodexed [Stock ROM] Micromax A117 Rom Ver.1.0 [16-2-14]" and with this i tried again, same issue, stuck in boot loop.
thanks for response anyway, I really like miui, i'm running miui on my xolo q700 right now.
I am currently on MIUI 4.2.6 and my OTA updater is not detecting 4.2.18, do i need to download and flash the whole ROM again or will the 4.2.18 available via system update in future?
Can the Chinese text in MIUI Rom be translated or removed?

I wonder why problem exit in first place. I mean i'm sure it work for other people here.
Anyway, i don't understand what you mean exactly, do you mean to say replace boot.img after flashing miui with stock firmware boot.img? or replace boot.img before flashing miui if so replace with which boot.img?

Does this work perfectly?

Sorry for troubling you once again, but I'm kind of a noob at all this.
I wanted to ask, if I'm planning to flash a Custom ROM, do I need to increase the internal storage before flashing the ROM or after flashing the ROM. I'm currently on Stock ROM, and I'm planning to flash either Flexi or MIUI. So, do I increase the internal storage before flashing one of these ROM's or after flashing the ROM?
Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for the faith shown in me @ashuchem.:good::good::good::good:
There is a upload error with the rom, as i give all files to upload to my friend because of my lightening fast internet speed.
Currently i am on BQ rom and making kernel from source which maybe useful to make cm for xolo.
Already i have TWRP 2.8.1.0 made by XDA member.
I will definatly cure the error with least possible download means a patch to flash after rom, as most of u downloaded the rom already.
As I am busy with this give me some time of 2-3 days to get a conclusion and upload a patch or whole rom.
i believe in avi320 and i like his work..but as fellow developer i never release a rom without testing..thats why i asked..but now i know that is upload error and not him..just like this rom is one of my favourites (i ve released a v2 for galaxy s2 http://smokermanxda.blogspot.pt/2014/07/coloros-20-android-422.html.
@avi320 are you in a BQ ROM wich one? stock kitkat? it works fine on your xolo? how is the partitions? it makes 16gb with 13 gb available like in my BQ 5.7? I d like to work on a customized kernel with a few more governors and with the partitions solved but we have so few users with this phone..it seems not worth it to work on it.
another problem is that your ported roms in our BQ doesnt recognize DUAL SIM..only 1 SIM..look at build props:
original BQ 5.7 build prop from kitkat rom: http://d-h.st/GMU
build prop from your LegenD Rom v8 Android L Edition kitkat rom: http://d-h.st/T4Ke

Hello Sir,
I flashed BQ stock ROM, have a builded kernel from BQ source.
BQ and xolo are clones. We can use any stock rom just need to flash whole rom with sp tools.
Yes there is partition problem - it shows only one partition phone storage as 13gb.
Its the main reason kernel not working in xolo roms as partition table is different - we are trying to solve the problem by making changes in kernel.
It is as u said number of users are less and those who use dont respond much- lets see how far we can go - if kernel boots in xolo.
If u willing to experiment just try this - (already sent a PM to charlie_1988 on HTCmania but he not yet responded.)
Code:
If ur on BQ rom (flashed BQ rom)
goto recovery
backup current rom
flash my any kitkat rom
flash [URL="http://d-h.st/Xnlv"]this[/URL] patch
boot.
I already tried above method with
I flashd whole BQ rom
then
legand rom/SGS5 v2 rom
then patch
successfully booted.
Try and report.

Based on: MTK AOSP build by Blu
Kernel version: 3.10.54+
Codename: aurora
SDK version: 21 ( Not a themed KK rom )
About the firmware:
Android 5.0.2 for aurora is being released by me with certain modification and tweaks added to BLU's D651 LTE device. So, I patched the ROM to make it stable on our device.
Removed some apps, added PureAOSP modifications and new Lollipop bootanimation.
With pretty awesome "Google powered by Android" boot logo.
Pretty awesome screenshots:

In aurora firmware, extract files of LP_Files which got MT_**_Scatter.txt, Cache and Preloader_**.bin
Now get into SP Tool and choose scatter MT6582_Android_scatter.txt
After choosing it, tick all the checkbox and choose Firmware Upgrade from "Download Only" dropdown
Power off device, and start Download in SP Tool
After starting Download connect device and then the progress will start with RED then Read back and then format later it will flash.
Wait till flash is complete and Green tick come.

*Rohan. You need to make adb insecure using Chainfire's app.
For bluetooth I ain't sure as I personally doesn't use Bluetooth to share stuff. Wifi-Direct is better option for the same.

Hey there!
Absolutely amazing job on this! Revived my old g3 gsmart saga (clone of the BLU). The rom works flawlessly.
One thing I can't get my head around is the root... tried everything - is it even possible with this ROM?
