Just found this thread I am also using eclipse to build apks thanks for the info Im very new to it so any help is useful
I have an apk I built using some app builder website. The app runs fine but when I decompile it to grab the source code Eclipse shows some errors in the app and wont export to apk. How is there errors if the app runs fine?

How can I determine the version of the class within an APK if the manifest does not have any version information?
This is odd for me being a Java developer - we always list the version information within our manifest in a JAR/WAR/EAR file... It seems in the android world its almost NEVER there..
Thanks

the manifest HAS to have a version in order to be posted in the Market, and an updated version in order to be uploaded. If it's not been posted in the market that's a hard one.... just poor developers out there...
Eclipse won't let me build an app unless the version has been changed....
Its funny... I was so focused on a JAR/EAR/WAR manifest and forgot this was android!!! Haaa...
Just for anyone else asking the same question:
The manifest for APK is AndroidManifest.xml
And you can parse this using a utility called axml2xml.pl to obtain version number. OR better yet use apktool to decode the entire APK.
Thanks... Justs need someone to get the juices flowing...

[Guide] How to Install Java apps (jar, jad, midp & j2me) right on your Android device
Yes we can enjoy java apps on our android phone & it is possible with the application JBED.
What is JBED?
JBED is an .apk Android application which Run
Java Games and Apps on our Android Device.
JBED is a Java Android Java Emulator, by using
this application we can install .JAR/.JAD/Java/
J2ME/MIDP games on Android phones. Now
We can use all of our favorite .JAR
application in our phones.
Steps to Install Jar on Android:
1. Download JBED http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=754635&d=1319050135
2. Download lib jbedvm .so www.4shared.com/file/laOKHPjO/libjbedvm.htm
place it in system\lib
folder
3. Install the JBED.apk application and don’t play
it.
4. Restart the phone
5. Launch JBED application. Press menu button
and choose SD card.
6. Select your .JAR/.JAD file that you want to
install and run.
7. Now install the chosen application through
JBED.
6. Now open the installed java application to run.
Thats all
Thanks to the Brilliant Dev who created the app JBED

AFAIK, JBED does not support ICS and JB. Supports only up to Gingerbread.
For those JBED not working
They can use JBlend instead of JBED or phoneME can also be used.
I have found this on below link:

remove spaces from url.

You can try this one I uploaded.
It is included the libjbedvm.so file, may be you can run it without root.
Something that works for lollipop? I rooted my phone for this and it doesn't work
how do i transfer the libjbedvm.so to system/lib?
i tried adb, root explorer but failed.
Something for Kitkat please?
For KK this is working for me:
http://www.netmite.com/android/
But what about for lollipop? Is there any solution now?
How to create J2ME .jar file on Android phone or how to develop Java j2me apps in Android phone????

Yes mate, that's a great tool indeed. But it's only for decompiling first, not for source-only compiling.
You have to download the Android SDK + Eclipse from the Android development website, import the files and build the project. Follow the instructions to configure the environment, the import and build process is actually 3 mouse clicks

I was recently looking for system ui smali mods and I came across this apk tool app and I thought I would share it, I think it works good so far but your working with a smaller screen other wise its really nice
Download: ApkTool v4.7.apk
Update fix for Lollipop Roms :ApkToolUpdate.zip
Instructions :
After you install the apk be sure to go to your Framework apks and hit import framework before you do anything
Also Copy system apks to SD card or you with get decompile errors
If you have problems with decompiling system apps on Lollipop flash update zip that has updated jars
You shouldn't have any problems with kit kat though I believe so no need to flash update.zip
Flash via FlashFire
And Finally Enjoy

Try Axel on the playstore. You can view and edit.
Documentation on this app is hard to find
Documentation on this app is hard to find, did you write this? From what I can gather it turns your active rom into a rom package for redistribution? I'm assuming that's what they mean by create rom? Who wrote this gem? Amazing app
When I download an apk from the net and select it once it is done downloading it opens as a html and I have to open my apk installer find the file and then it gives me the option to install
My question is is there a way to have the apk open to the install screen like other android devices by default?
