is just a firmware to process the commands from the app on your phone, not Android OS (ROM).
Why do you thought there was android 2.3.6???
the only smartwatch that I know have android OS (ROM) is MotoActv.

maybe you just misunderstood it
The box and manuals doesn't say anything about the firmware inside the watch, just how to update it. The only thing about Android that it is talking about are the SMART EXTRAS apps and the way to sync your watch with your Android phone.
see again the video promotional... Never talks about android on the watch, the market and the apps showed are for smart extras. What actually it does, is to show you what kind of apps you can get notifications on the watch but just that.

if sony would said that the watch came with android  I think a lot of people would have sued them for misleading advertising but it didn't happen.
This post makes my head hurt. Sorry. If the watch had full blown android it wouldn't require a phone to tell time.

The Sony Smartwatch firmware updates automatically via the Bluetooth connection with the phone. My watch updated its firmware the first time I paired it with the phone and had the software installed. Is there a particular reason to struggle with the USB method?
Mine did the same. Checked this morning through USB just to see but was up to date.
I don't think it's necessary to struggle with the USB as it'll come automatically through Playstore and Bleutooth.

Hmm, that's curious, mine is still at .46, .80 is supposed to be the big update so I wonder what .60 is? Any noticeable changes on your watch? Could you head to the Play Store on your phone and check the version number of the SmartWatch 2 app from Sony, not Smart Connect. Mine is showing as 13 Dec, the 1.3.19 version.
As far as I am aware, there are no USB drivers for the smartwatch, so trying to plug it in to your PC shouldn't get you very far at all, unless there's some new tool from Sony I don't know about.

The one you quoted was the old firmware. Look carefully in your firmware version. There is a 3 instead of a 0 somewhere which makes yours the latest at the moment.

Hi!!
I come from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s2/general/gear-s2-iphone-remarks-t3259155/page82#815
I have an iPhone with the Gear beta app, but i have the firmware R720XXU2AOJ3, which I have read is old. I need to update the watch to the latest firmware, but i have no compatible Android device to do that.
I have read this , so i think i could update my watch using this method. The problem is that i don't know what is the latest firmware and i don't know where i can download it. Anyone have the last firmware to download??
Thanks!
PD: Device model is SM-R720
Finally got my Gear S2 updated and working with iOS app. I had to reverse engineer the android app to force the compatibility with the android device and update the watch.
Maybe i could do a new thread with a tutorial about it
I dont know if i can close this thread, but if someone can, please close this thread.

I have seen it is a security measure included in latest Android versions (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...rmission-c2d-message#comment43278803_27043933) to prevent that two different apps declare the same custom permission with a different signature. The simplest way to fix this is get the APK for the GearPlugin app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.android.gearoplugin) and the accessory app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.accessory), decompile both apps, recompile them as you recompiled the manager app, sign and finally install them.
Now you will have all the samsung apps signed with the same signature.
I did have a compatibility device, but the Samsung Gear Manager shows that the S2 is running the newest firmware..:crying:
Does anyone know how to upgrade the S2 with firmware R732XXU2AOJ3 to the newest, R720XXU2DPFB, or where I could download it ? I guess I could flash it with Odin to get S2 back to the newest firmware.

Yes you need the sign up for beta version. First join this community https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/105639097153515068851 than use one of this links to sign up for beta
for premium version of the app: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/slide.watchFrenzy.premium
for free version of the app: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/slide.watchFrenzy
After signing up, if you have the app on your phone already, you should get an update for beta.
Thanks!

I'm not sure how to phrase this, because I tried my best to look up similar questions and I couldn't.
In simple terms, can you guys tell me why an apk from One Plus wouldn't install on my Samsung phone? And is there a work-around to fix this issue?
Thanks.
Some apk requires firmware related features. Some needs to be installed as system file.
It'll help a lot to know what you are porting over.

First, compare the original app of its compatible with the version of Android ln your samsung s9 lineage os. If it's not compatible, then no.
Next check what is the properties granted to the app on oneplus. Grant the same permission. It might even need to be flashed in from custom recovery.
Next, check for required packages that the app is using. Try to port them over as well.
Tbh, why don't you just use a third party app to screen record.
