I went to the AT&T store for a software issue I'm having with my galaxy s4 and the att rep told me to wait for next week or the week after because of a OTA update that's coming out. Maybe, maybe not.

The sales people at att have no idea when updates are pushed out. The tech support at att don't have a clue about it until the day it is released. You got to think about it, it was a sales rep. They are going to tell anything just to make a customer happy.

What software issue?
Does waiting push you past your exchange date?
MF3 just came out, doubt another is coming. Sometimes incremental, small ones come out. Doubt if rep knew exactly what an incremental would fix anyway, even if one was coming.
I wouldn't wait. Try another store, maybe a Corporate one--
they lied.
It was at a DSC, and I've never exchanged my phone. What's the best excuse to get them to replace it?

This. The reps at these stores don't know when software updates are coming; if you were to ask them at any other time they would tell you that they aren't told when updates are slated to arrive. Considering an update just came out and these updates have to go through a rigmarole before they get pushed, I doubt there is one coming next week.

A verizon manager told me today would be the day gave me his card told me to call him today before I come in and he will hold one for me because he doesn't know how many he is going to get, he told to this Wednesday I dunno how much truth there is to this, its just the first time I actually heard something from Verizon on a release date

Very true. However, they at least have the sense overlay done (or so it would seem), so that leaves the LTE radio... that's about it.

I can say that it does come from verizon and its not your everyday cs rep or a store employee. I have known the person since I'm 5 (41 Now) and they have been with verizon 15 years and has worked his way up from tech to a nice position.
I can also add that they were looking into making the maintenance update part of the GB upgrade but were having issues with it so as of now they are two seperate ota's.
Im sure some of the devs here can check and see if this has any validity. I cant get him to confirm a GB date but he said nothing will be set for GB until current issues are dealt with..

The EVO has been out a longer than the thunderbolt, and its just now getting it. I'm not saying it will take that long for the tbolt to ft GB, I'm just saying don't get your heart completely set on getting it real soon. Who knows these days really..

All updates have issues so it's going to be pretty much unavoidable. Factory resets can generally clear up most of them though.

Hate to make you feel sad but i work for T-Mobile and there is no info out yet for reps to know what the date is for GB on the G2X. Only thing that is coming out on the 15th right now is the Sensation and the Samsung Dart. There is no info on the T-Mobile's network for reps saying that the 15th is the set date for GB. No one even knows if GB is going to be a OTA or a downloaded update. only time will tell

this blows, the 15th is my travel date to Hawaii, in the air for like 9-10 hours... I hope i can snag it on my layover in LAX if it does drop or i really hope it leaks on the 14th and i can redo my phone before i leave lol

Its not that he is lying he wasn't given wrong info in which he through was true not his fault. Also if you go into your local tmobile store they can show you the notes you want to see. Also keep an eye on www.tmonews.com this site is always on the ball about tmobile stuff leaked out.

Interestingly, when I spoke to an executive at T-Mo on Friday about this he said that they had pushed back the date indefinitely and that he would send me a pre-paid return label to send him the two G2x's that I have for a full refund.
I doubt he would want to buy the phones back from me if an update was right around the corner.

Has anyone gotten the new MR2 OTA that was supposed to come out today? I have been running it since it leaked but I haven't seen anyone talk about getting it OTA yet today.
My TB worked great the first 5 days I had it, I was loving the 4G speeds. All the sudden I stopped getting 4G completely in my house and cycling/losing data constantly otherwise. I have tried everything and MR2 didn't fix the problems. The rep was pretty knowledgeable that I spoke to, but told me to wait until I get the new update before they would replace my phone. Obviously I can't tell him I'm running it already, so I just need to know when it "officially" is out.

Any time you see someone posting a supposed update from an exclusive source, add one to three months to that for the true date.

That was a good one...I got a good laugh from that one. I especially love it when people over on Verizon's T-bolt forum say, they are releasing gingerbread today. I know because I spoke with a tech on the phone and they told me it was.
Well I have a new TB coming tomorrow. My issue was that I didn't want a CLNR piece of **** device that Verizon loves to give out, so I had to get my replacement within 14 days of my original purchase. The tech today told me that the ETA on the update is before the end of June and no later. I guess that's good news.

That is unfortunately true. I saw Jcase posted on Twitter the other day that the update was going to be delayed or maybe even cancelled for a new build.
I just got done talking to a T-mobile rep about some problems I had with my G2x. So he asked for my firmware version and I told him 2.3.3 and then he asked for my kernel version and I told him. Then he told me to do "Checking" on my phone dial-er ,then he said I'm going to get an update in the next 24 hours to 2.3.4. If I don't they said for me to call them. Do you think they are bluffing?

While I can't say that they are wrong, I also can't say they are correct, either. Customer CARE isn't supposed to disseminate that kind of information to begin with, largely for this reason: they don't really know what they're talking about. They aren't briefed on this kind of information and therefore aren't supposed to mislead customers into incorrect information.

If this is true this would be fantastic. I could change my mod to firmware designed for TMO (wifi calling would work peeps) and it would hopefully flash a new baseband and solve some sms on 4g issues people are having (hopefully).
I bet I know what happened. The tmo rep probably misunderstood and thought you had the Tmobile G2, which does have a gingerbread 2.3.4 update. Don't waste your time calling those donkeys tomorrow.
Nothing yet. I don't think he would get a g2 and a g2x mixed up. Only because I gave him all my "about phone" information under stock 2.3.3 so who knows.

The CSRs at all the companies are notorious for knowing nothing and making stuff up. They are usually the last to know about updates, etc. so I would take with a very tiny grain of salt anything they say about an OTA coming soon.

I used to be one of those CSRs.. actually I was a Tier 2 PDA Tech Support until they closed our call center... I was top performance on the site, and I didn't make stuff up .. of course, I got all my facts from xda-developers before we ever heard of them at work... plenty of the other tech support reps made stuff up though...
As far as the OP's OTA... I can guarantee the rep didn't know about what they spoke... We have the leaked 2.3.4 from the tracphone device, and while it's nice, there aren't enough differences that T-Mobile would bother with the hassle of doing an update OTA. That said, the firmware is *obviously* built, and they COULD push out such an update... They just won't.

Supposedly they took the tier 2 pda support totally in-house... but honestly their support has really gone down in the last year, I think they were already shopping the company to be sold when they closed my call center.

You will never even get a notification for an OTA. They can't push updates out to non-T-Mobile ROMs that aren't on the stock recovery.

Not quite true. If you are on a stock rom but not stock recovery, they will push the OTA to you but it will fail to install if stock recovery is not on the device.
