I'm wondering what app ppl are using to download mp3's on theory android devices. I've been using gtunes but am starting to see it not finding mainstream music. Also not thrilled with its permissions.
What's the best app for downloading free music?

Any input would be great, Thx

I doubt you will get too much help with that here, seeing as most of those apps are legally questionable... not sure that helps

Thanks, i used to use that too. I have been using gtunes but i think more often than not it doesnt find what im looking for, which is mainstream. I have since downloaded "Free Music Download" (orange icon white headphones as the icon) and it works better.
I've discovered a method of using the web browser xscope to download the music files via mediafire or megupload. In Google type, site:mediafire.com (artist name) (album name). Packages usually come in the form of .zip or .rar files but also as .Mp3 for single files. Pick the link of the files you want and allow it to finish downloading. You will need a .zip and/.rar expander to reveal the .Mp3 files in the album. I use the app, android zip.UnzipLite and unrar, both found in the market. You will need to navagate your SD card to find the files located in the xscope download folder with one of the two applications. Place files into the media/audio folder on your SD. I hope you guys try this out it works quite well for me and never really have to worry about syncing to get a new album on my phone.

yeah.. that's a great method.. never knew that
So, im running aokp m6.. I pushed the music player from cm9 to system/app and all was well. Now all of a sudden, none of my music files are showing up. Tried downloading a music player from the market to see if that would work, nope. Any ideas?
Do you see them using a file browser?
If you do then try deleting the data for the music app and see if it comes back. Also try playing the music from the file browser and see if it refreshes the directory then.
If you don't see them in the file browser then connect the phone to computer and see if it shows on the computer. If it doesn't then maybe something deleted it.

Weird, but for overkill protection, I suggest booting to recovery, and doing a wipe cache/dalvik/fix permissions combo. But my guess is it was a permission error

Can you see them in on your phone at all

Is it only those two folders not showing?
Are both the internal and external SD card showing?
Are they, by some chance, marked as hidden?

In your Windows Explorer folder settings / options, there is an option to "show hidden files".
Also, you can view the info of a file or folder on your Android from a file browser.

do you have a file manager type app? can you see /sdcard/DCIM from that?
there isn't nessesarily a "sdcard/music" folder unless you created one, the media scanner will find music and photos no matter where they are stored. the files would be stored in /sdcard/download if you used the browser to download them, they may also be in folders that are created by apps if you use some mp3 downloader app.
the lack of */DCIM would be odd though. unless you use a 3rd party camera app.
Yeah I use root explorer and I can access it with no problem and on windows I already tried to show hidden files too.
Already tried going to stock.

If all else fails, try uploading the to Google drive then pulling them down to your PC.

If they're not hidden, I wonder why they don't show in Windows when the phone is plugged through USB...
Do you have a USB micro SD card reader dongle?
If so, try taking the card out of the phone and plug it directly into your computer.
If the files show, something on the phone (somehow) is messing something up.
If they don't show, there's some sort of issue with the card.
Here he is having your same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837023
They suggested deleting a .nomedia file somewhere in your sdcard and removing rom manager
Sent from my sweet & buttery Infuse
The problem is that I don't use rom manager and the files don't show in my computer. In my phone I have no problems
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
You don't have to use it for the problem to show up. If it is installed it may be affecting it. Also, the .nomedia file is a hidden file so make sure show hidden files is turned on in your file explorer.

.nomedia isn't his problem.
He said everything shows fine when viewed on his phone.
He wants to view the files on his COMPUTER (pc) when the phone is linked with usb and storage mounted.
But those two folders won't show in WINDOWS.
The problem is entirely different from that thread.
Tavitos, have you tried plugging the SD Card directly to the computer with a dongle like I asked?
Posted from my Paranoia Infused Android, now featuring Butter flavored JellyBeans!
Oh I see, sorry. I misunderstood his situation.
That's quite strange though.. something similar has happened to me with my tablet before. Could somehow your usb connection be malfunctioning?
Maybe the cable or the ports?
What rom are you currently running? If the problem persists consider reflashing.

I'm running Aeon.
and the only issue is my internal. Not the external. You think it can be a driver issue?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
If the computer is popping up a folder at all when you plug it in, it wouldn't be the driver...
So they're on the internal SD?
Hmm... On a whim, take out the External card, boot up your phone, then hook it up to the computer and see if those folders show.

But formatting makes you lose everything! xD
Kidding, glad that fixed things. Still wonder what caused it in the first place...
Good to know you won't be having this problem any more, though!
I keep coming up with little issues...kind of unimportant but still important. I don't know exactly what I changed in my phone to alter this because I've gone throuh so many ROMs,kernels, radios, and modems the past couple weeks but I used to have an option between streaming a video online or downloading it to my SD card. Now I've noticed it only allows me to stream videos online. Anyone know how I can get back to being able to download to my SD card again??

OK so I'm trying to change the permissions of /sdcard1 because no boxes are not checked so I'm thinking if I check off at least the "write" box my phone should/could download to the external card and not just stream. A box pops up saying that "some file systems do not allow permission changes." Dont know if this has to do with the rom, kernel, modem...no idea.Feel free to chime in with your opinion or advice. I've searched and found no help. Thanks in advance.

OK, I think I'm at the end of my available resources so I must ask the community. Recently, I've noticed that I can't navigate to any of my music files using Astro, File Explorer, or Root Browser even. I know the files are there, they can be easily seen while plugged in via USB. I've done all of the .nomedia removal and made sure hidden files are shown in the file managers. It's driving me crazy I was trying to share a song last night and couldn't even find it using bluetooth share.
I've cleared data on the media storage app and wiped dalvik. What am I missing here? Again, songs show and play just find in my music player (rocket), they just don't appear in they folder(s) that I know they are in.
Thanks for any help on this.

Hi there! First of all stop using Rocket Player! I used to have a lot of issues with it! Try winamp or google music or buy PlayerPro which is the best player! Also Install Total Commander from play store instead Astro, File Explorer and the rest. If this doesn't help backup your phone apps and all other stuff on google account and do a factory reset. I had the same issue as you have and Factory Reset solved the problem!
Good luck
Will try your recommendations and report back. Thanks

Factory reset will help, had the same issue.
OK, here's what I found. Total commander found the files immediately. I think because the razr has internal storage, the other file managers were defaulting to the internal storage and calling it SD storage. All of my music is on my SD card in a folder with the same name. So I guess this falls under operator error, but total commander easily differentiated between the two locations where the others did not seem to.
Thanks again for the help.

I'm glad this is solved! Over the years I realised that Total Commander is only REAL deal . Other similar apps are more-less bullsh**!
Cheers
