[ROM][FP8] Debloat WIFI ONLY Music Player - w/ "Real Phone" Backout Plan (2013-08-16) - Verizon Droid Charge

[ROM][FP8] Debloat WIFI ONLY Music Player - w/ "Real Phone" Backout Plan (2013-08-16)
END OF SUPPORT NOTICE:
This project has been formally merged back into the Tweaked Lite 1.x FP8 by Dwitherell. (...or on XDA, HERE.)
Tweaked Lite: Same great taste, just one calorie...
This was simply my n00b-ish attempt at a kang/bootleg tweaked on FP8, no real point maintaining my "placeholder" when "the original" is now available on FP8.
NOTE: A WIFI Only option is available on Tweaked Lite 1.x (via a TweakTools init.d tweak)
After installing Tweaked Lite 1.x grab a terminal "su" then "tweaktools". From the menu interface the options are 3, 1, 1, and finally 1. Remember to restart for an init.d script to take hold! (Exit TT to the # prompt and type "reboot".)
If you were a Music/Media player user check out the music APKs available in the apps TT menu(s). Also remember to look in TSM parts for userful music player flavored options!
Since I know we have a handful of WIFI only folkls... Feel free to continue to run WIFI Only Media Player Configuration Tips & Tricks (Q/A) here!
...Original detail preserved below for "posterity"...
Old News: Beta v1.4 Released 8/16/13.
Updates to the reserved posts...
BnB is back... Kinda... BnB Lite or PoBoy_BnB (look at the print screen)
Tweaktools is back! "TT Lite", same great taste, just one calorie... (Still populating the back-end.)
FYI... So far, 50/50 on users keeping WIFI Only script vs. revert to phone use with CDMA/LTE Radio.
Description:
This is a FP8 Stock Based, Rooted, Deodexed, Debloated, BusyBoxed, init.d enabled, radiooptions binary added, cell/mobile data OFF init.d script build for the good old Droid Charge SCH-I510.
By Default this ROM disables the CDMA/LTE Radios. No Calls/Texts, No Mobile data... WIFI only!
If you use this as a "real phone" be warned! (I've made it relatively easy to get CDMA/LTE Radios back though, see FAQ #8 below.)
Project Goals/Scope:
The Idea was to pull together a phone that might serve as a GB Micro Tablet Media Player.
I wanted to be able to turn it over to the kids and not worry about them making emergency calls.
Wanted to leave in the old SIM card so it would get through a reset/restart quick & easy.
Radio disabled via init.d script so no need to remember to set airplane mode, etc.
Thought it would be interesting to see if there was a battery bonus disabling the radios.
Commentary:
I tried to get aggressive with the debloat. ...people are able to get the apps they want on their own.
I threw in the cyanogenmod Apollo music player (from HERE, since it is currently not on Google Play).
I was originally thinking about pulling out the bits that make it a phone (Dialer/MMS stuffs). Ultimately decided to leave them in, so there is a quick & Easy revert back for use like a real phone option. That leaves the music player only optimal battery folks a bit of work to do (via Titanium freezing, or... you'll figure it out).
I did NOT spend time cranking open the bits for UI tweaks or making it pretty (may not even have/develop those skills). As such, it has very stock GB flavored look & feel.
Warning:
Standard disclaimers apply...your mileage may vary, hack at your own risk. This could ruin you phone, your life, the entire world... Rooting your device WILL void your warranty. Know what you are doing, at the end of the day you can only blame yourself if you break it. (I'm just some crazy guy from the internet...)
<NO PROMISES DISCLAIMER>
Be patient with me for I am n00B! (It took quite a while just to deodex/debloat this beast. So, don't hold your breath waiting on me.)
If I try and fail I reserve the right to walk away with head hung low and tail between legs...
At this point the Wife/Kids are happy with the little WIFI only Gingerbread nano tablet(s). As such, I might loose interest entirely. Especially if there are not enough interested users still using the SCH-I510...
</NO PROMISES DISCLAIMER>

Reserved 1/4 for FAQ...
For just this minute...
Cliffs Notes:
This is not Tweaked, perhaps a tweaked inspired debloat at best.
There is no TSM Parts. I lack the permission and more than likely skills/knowledge to pull it off. Don't believe me, see HERE.
RE-bloat:
Tweaktools is now an option, the "Apps" menu will be populated in the near future. In the meantime, I threw some FP8 re-bloat bits out HERE.
<partial_QA>
Q8: Can I still use this as real phone?
A8: YES & NO... Not with the Radio OFF Script. However, I left in all the Phone bits. Just Enable/Disable WIFI Only Script from the tweaktools Interface. Remember to SU/# first. Then "tweaktools", Option 3, Option 1, Option 1... remember to reboot & enjoy! TT Instructions HERE.
...Alternatively...
You only need to do is delete/rename (with ".bak") one file to get back CDMA/LTE Radios. From a root friendly file explorer (like Root Explorer) navigate to "/system/etc/init.d" then delete/rename "09radiooff". (Only that one, leave the other file alone.) After a reboot you will have use of your radios back.

Reserved 2/4 for Install Notes...
For just this minute...
Cliffs Notes:
This is XDA! Just install it from CWM... remember to mount system and wipe the necessary bits.
NO ODIN NECESSARY
Oh yeah, she was built/tested from an FP8 base (and 0817 "Orange" recovery, titled "0817_charge_recovery.tar.md5")...
so however you go about it I'd recommend FP8 Kernel/Radios (if you are going to use the radios).
Install: -- We can get detailed if necessary, for now CliffsNotes.
End Game:
This is no different than the process to install Tweaked 3.2 on FP5. (Except it is FP8 and not tweaked, but you get what I'm saying.)

Credit where credit is due...
First of all Dwitherell has given me support whenever I requested it. Big Thanks to Him. Tweaked 3.2 on FP5 was my "point of reference".
SuperSU was brought to us by chainfire, please consider going for the "Pro" paid version.
"Orange" CWM for the SCH-I510 (and lots of other historical dev) was brought to us by imnuts
Stranula for the original BnB theme bits & Adobeman (chargeforums) for the FP8 status bar updates "PoBoyBnB" look.
Don't forget Tonsit for the tweaktools scripts!

Got to give an honorable mention to the TMAN. He and I discussed the merits of a WIFI Only ROM a while ago. His efforts ultimately led me down the path to the RADIO Options binary init.d script.
PS. If you see any errors, or feel I didn't give you proper kudos... let me know. I will make it right.

This is great stuff. Once I upgrade my phone this fall, this seems like a good way to make use of the Charge. For a smartphone, this device looks like a dinosaur compared to new stuff coming out, but I'm sure as a ipod touch kind of setup it will perform well.

Talk about serendipity! I was just now reading this article on LIfehacker:
http://hackerspace.lifehacker.com/android-dashboard-cam-1035905370
Since I recently upgraded to a GS4, my Charge was feeling left out. So I came back to this forum to see what was going on, and this is the first thing I saw!
I think I'll take a run at it tonight. I assume GPS and Bluetooth work, right?. I'm thinking of using it as a GPS (something with offline maps, like Co-Pilot)/Music Player/Camera for my car. I can always turn on the hotspot on my GS4 if I need wifi on the road.
I'm psyched for another tinkering project. I'll be sure to post feedback. Thanks!

Tinker away! ... and keep us posted with your comments/observations.
The bluetooth stuff should all be there... (I haven't tested, but I didn't take it out)
looking at your article, if you are after re-bloat check here... http://tools.tweakedrom.com/SCH-I510/FP8A/FP8_rebloat/... the car dock should be there. not all, but lots of those apps will need to be pushed to /system/app, just fyi...
I can throw more of the deodexed FP8 apk's out there if there is demand... while poking around that tools subdomain ignore any FP5 stuff you might find... pay no attention to the man behind the curtain
GPS might could work... I when I tried the other night with only GPS, no WIFI, on I got NO lock. Just now I turned on google location services in addition to standalone gps, and connected to WIFI at the house... GPS locked (accurate to 40 meters) in seconds. Haven't tried it from the car.
Not sure if the edited gps.conf mod would help or not, couldn't hurt.
My live in testers (wife/kids) don't exactly give the best tinkering feedback. If the music/netflix is working they are content. Any insights XDA has to share would be a value add.

Just did some testing with GPS, and I thought it wasn't working as it didn't lock. However, last night when I flashed the ROM, I decided to freeze a bunch of things that I thought we be extraneous. Included were things like Phone, Secphone, Maps and Streetview, Allshare, Apollo (I use Spotify), SMS, Samsung acct, VZ sync service and other VZ stuff, probably a few others too...
So after testing GPS with Copilot, I decided to unfreeze all that stuff, and now it appears GPS is locking! I also tested navigating with music (via BT) playing and everything seems to be working. I did have the CoPilot screen come up blank when switching from Spotify to Copilot, and had to kill it with Task Manager. But I started it up again and was able to switch between the two. Granted, all of this was a less than 10 minute test, so more is needed.
Couple of other things and some questions:
I am trying to create a minimalist UI to use in the car. I also want to keep as much bloat off so it performs well. I installed FTL Launcher because a) it's supposed to be light and fast and b) I wanted to customize the app icons in the Dock (for CoPilot, Camera, Spotify, and maybe Evernote). I'm planning to have a single home screen, with a widgets for a clock, Spotify controls, and maybe some settings (brightness, BT settings, etc) - - anything to minimize having to do a lot of UI navigation and avoid the damn physical buttons on the Charge. I will also keep it plugged in to the 12v charger, so I should never have to worry about battery life.
Can the lockscreen be disabled? I think some launchers will let you do that, but FTL doesn't. I'd hate to go to a more bloated launcher with tons of bells and whistles just to turn off the lockscreen.
On the topic of freezing of apps, of the list I posted, is there anything that would be obvious candidates to keep GPS from working? Maybe Phone and Maps, though I can think of reasons why they wouldn't impact it. Given that I've described what I want to use this for, can you give me some ideas of apps/services that would be safe to freeze. I'm making a broad assumption here that removing things I will never use will give me better performance. If I'm off-base on that, let me know.

Feedback appreciated !
Excellent questions... Keep in mind I am still relatively new with all this... That said, my initial thoughts appear below (for what little they are worth). Feel free to guide me back toward the path... Consider this all just brainstorming out loud
Generally speaking I am interested in further debloat... However so many of the initial beta testers wanted to back out of the WIFI Only and use as a "real phone". As such I want to leave options open by leaving in the phone stuff.
Lockscreen:
I haven't worked up the courage to poke at the Java/XML just yet...
But there is an app for that... "No Lock" HERE.... Idea from HERE. (I haven't tried it yet though...)
Debloat/Freezing:
I didn't have much time to play with freezing/further debloat before my wife/kids took over the device, but I had relative success with this:
I'll continue to play around with it, I've never gotten too scientific about the optimization stuff (not yet).
Feel free to share your further debloat/freezing recipies. (links examples always appreciated, I'm still discovering a lot about this device and android)
Tangent... *squirrel*
Media Player:
I've been happy with Equalizer FX (Free) from here... so far. (I am not overly picky about music either...)
At the moment, I've been focusing else where...
Wouldn't it be nice to get around the SIM card requirement? (No idea where to start on this one, ideas?)
TweakTools mirror:
I am working on a little website project. Trying to mirror for the TT 3.6 FP5 back end. (Out of respect for the work that went into Tweaked 3.2, I'd like to ensure it is available on a go forward...no better way than to host it on my server!)
that got me to wondering...
TT-ish like FP8 thing:
I've also been thinking about tinkering with the back-end of the TT script stuffs on this little FP8 ROM ... it may go nowhere ... Without a bunch of flashy themes and UI tweaks (like TSM Parts) I doubt most users would appreciate it on FP8. (Right? Correct me if I am wrong.)
I MIGHT try to rebrand it "weaktools" on the little FP8 thing for my Jedi skills are weak.
EDIT: Got boot ani TT-ish stuff running on FP8 without custom kernel thanks to smokin1337 and project documented HERE! ... or maybe not
Note to all: Please don't hold your breath, it took me quite long time to learn to simply doedex this beast... I am very part time and trial and error (i.e. slow is my speed) I fully reserve the right to not deliver on any of this!

Ditto. I have plans to turn my Charge into a remote/whatever for subsonic and other stuff at home. I'm not even close to an amateur hacker so I may not have much to contribute to your testing but I'll give 'er a go later.
Are there any similar, de-bloated ROMs like yours? I'm looking to keep the cell radios off and only use WiFi and GPS (sudo-dedicated GPS). Thanks.

Nice Idea... I had never thought of using it as an XBMC remote... (Suppose I would have to setup a server first though).
Feel free to report your findings.
I found a "poor man's BnB" look on another forum that I'm gathering permissions to use. It will get back a bit of the Black on Blue and some of the UI tweaks like accurate battery % on status bar, etc. (not a full blown theme & no TSM goodies)
I've also made progress on the Weaktools shell script/terminal emulator back end. Might want to attempt align my efforts with Dwith, in case there is a Tweaked FP8 comeback (no promises by me, and certainly not by me on behalf of Dwith. ...but THIS was encouraging!)
A little more debloat, update a few APK's, integrate Weaktools, the initial shaping of a "Beta v1.1" are coming together.
Plus my Micro/Mini SIM to Standard SIM Adapter is in, so I can test the phone stuff myself now (About half the users to date have indicated they are backing off the WIFI only bit for "real phone" usage.)
EDIT: From my site linked below, see the CWM files section for links to other recently active ROMs...
http://tweakedrom.com/Other_Files/Droid_Charge_SCH-I510.php

...Beta v1.1 in progress...
Something to deploy via terminal emulator script CWMMod...
NOTE: This is a "poor man's" BnB look (not the entire historical theme)
Thanks to Adobeman (@ chargeforum)...
Inspired by the Stranula original.

...NEW! Beta v1.4 Released 8/16/13...
Happy Friday, Enjoy!

By the way, any possible way to remove that popup window after the startup? It warns us about no data connection, but does it every friggin time. Just an annoyance. So far she works well. Once in a while the data turns itself on (even though it was off when the phone booted on), not sure why.Time to try 'er out as a subsonic remote!

keep us posted on your endeavors...
I remember that popup as well, I just been leaving the mobile data toggle ON from the notification drawer/drop-down. Haven't gotten real scientific with BetterBatteryStats to see if there is a benefit of turning that toggle off; but leaving it on makes that message go away. My thought was that the actual radios are off anyway, from a debug angle.
When my 2 little kids get a hold of it the Netflix mass battery hit kind of "spoils" my controlled observations. I can report that today they have watched ~3.5 hours of Netflix and the battery is still at 33%... (they each picked a movie to watch while sharing that tiny screen, I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon.)
EDIT: Every once in a blue moon, mostly when poking at it sideways from ADB (or a dirty flash between beta versions) the CDMA/LTE off script goes wonky. A restart always fixes it right up... You haven't seen the Radios back on, have you? Just the Mobile Data Toggle thing, right?

I tried to folow your post but was unable to disable lockscreen from hidden menu... But that doesn't mean it can't be done... (I may just not be able to sort it.)
I did look for it in dialer codes before suggesting the app up there ^^

[ROM] 04/13/10 | Fresh Rom 2.0d (Android 2.1) | Rosie LWP w/Espresso + OpenGL Fix

Update: 04/13/2010: Thanks to MagnusRagnarok, jcase, and zifnab, we now have a better fix for Rosie's LWP to make more wallpapers work and make them actually stick. I created a patch that includes the required rosie (which was included in the patch yesterday) and the OpenGL fixed that are needed to get everything going. Check the download link below!
Update: 04/12/2010: Thanks to mssmision, we now have a way to have livewallpapers in Rosie. Thanks to zenulator for bringing it over to our side of the forums. And thanks to noj for whipping up this version that still has the espresso bottom bar in tact! I figured every other rom is going to add this so I might as well too. Keep in mind that our phones couldn't handle LWP in Launcher that well, so running it in Rosie is going to be even harder on our phones. I recommend removing Weather animations (/system/app/HtcWeatherWallpaper.apk) if you are going to run this. Check the downloads below for a screen shot and the download link.
Update: 04/06/2010: If you prefer to use the stock android lock screen instead of HTC's then you no doubt have noticed that the Sprint leaks have been coming straight from Sprint with the vanilla lock screen broken. I sat down tonight and was able to resolve the issue. I created a few patches that can be used on any of the new 2.1 roms: http://geekfor.me/fixes/vanilla-lockscreen/
Just like my last rom... I hadn't planned on releasing anything until we got our official release. But this one is very very close. I had a number of people asking me to release one with working vvm so here you go. Between work and this I have been up for almost 48 hours and only sleep for 4. It's time for me to go pass out! I think almost every one of my releases has a similar statement.
Geek 4 Me is proud to bring you another 4am release:
Fresh Rom 2.0d (Android 2.1) by flipz
Changes / features:
Based on new Sprint leak (thanks damageless. Note that fresh rom is not at all based on damage control, but he shared the leak.)
Auto apps2sd (as long as your card is partitioned properly, it will use it)
Autokiller (an app that lets you dynamically set your memory kill off points -- you decide how aggressive you want to be. It will ask for root on first boot, make sure to hit always allow. Then once your phone is booted open the app to pick your setting.)
Multi-touch maps
All protected apps in market (I'll edit this if I get confirmed reports of missing apps)
Visual voicemail
Live wallpapers (yea, they're back! Keep in mind that our phone can't handle the higher end ones.)
Accelerometer working (I broke it in 2.0c while playing with a2sd at the last minute. Oops!)
Removed now defunct Sprint NFL and replaced it with the new Sprint Football Live
SMS notification led now works
Trackball led now works
No google sign on error
HTC Power Manager (do not use SetCPU!)
Espresso bottom bar by flipz
Full color HTC sliders by flipz
flash_image for flashing RA
Custom htc_ime from xda (English and Spanish activated.)
Multi-touch Google maps
Custom PRI correction by flipz (this will automatically correct your PRI so that you can update your PRL and use the Sprint apps. No crazy steps. NOTE: You will notice your radio drop out for a bit on first boot while it does this, and this is right about the time that you will be hitting the google sign on setup screen. Wait for the radio to drop and come back, and then data to return)
Nexus Launcher2 (thanks 702droid)
Removed:
Amazon mp3
GSD (HTC test program that was draining battery)
HTC Footprints
HTC Ringtone trimmer
HTC Sound recorder
HTC Stocks
Quick Office
Learn more
pdf viewer
Sprint navigator
Sprint Nascar
Sprint TV
Teeter
DOWNLOAD REMOVED APKS HERE: http://link.geekfor.me/fresh20dapk If you use Fresh Kitchen 1.0.5 you can copy them to your My Apk's folder and use the app installer to install them.
Added:
Busy box
Estrongs file explorer
Super User
Wifi tether 1.6 (downgraded due to DHCP/NAT issues)
Autokill
What to expect / how to flash it / READ THIS :
Download and copy the zip to the root of your sdcard
Reboot to RA and do a data wipe / factory reset (REQUIRED)
If you are running a2sd on another rom then you will most likely have to wipe your SD EXT partition also (this will delete all of your apps)
Pick flash zip from sdcard and select fresh-cdma-hero-2.0d.zip
After it finishes flashing reboot. Expect the first boot up to take a while. 5+ minutes
If it freezes during first boot then you were likely using a2sd from another rom. Unfortunately during earlier 2.x roms there were a few versions of a2sd floating around and now that is going to cause problems. If this happens to you (and you already did a factory reset like you should have) then you will need to boot in to RA and go to wipe and then Wipe SD:Ext Partition. This will delete all apps off your sdcard. You will want to reflash the rom if you have to do this or else you will be missing some apps from the rom.
When the phone boots and comes to the user setup screen you will see your radio signal drop out a short while later. This is the auto PRI being applied. Do not try adding your google or facebook accounts until after this process has happened or else it will just fail to log in.
During the setup you will also notice the new customized keyboard for the first time and you will see that the minimize button is gone. Use the enter button on the keyboard to sync your accounts, or hit your menu button to minimize it. Once the phone boots you can go in to your keyboard settings and enable "swipe down to hide" which you will use to hide the keyboard. I recommend you check out all the settings (screen shot below) to tweak it how you like it. Hate it? Grab this update to go back to htc: http://link.geekfor.me/fresh20dkbd
After you are are booted you will be prompted with a SU request for autokiller, make sure to click always allow. Expect the phone to be a little laggy for a minute as everything stabilizes. A reboot after the first bootup finishes is recommended, especially if you were previously having PRI/PRL problems.
The stock vanilla lock screen is still broken. This is straight from HTC and is how it is.
If you are using apps2sd and are re-flashing this rom without wiping for any reason then you are going to get an error during the flash that mentions an error on DATA: . This is because it can't access /data/app properly while in RA. To resolve the issue you can either do a data wipe or delete the symlink and make a folder. Assuming you are using a2sd then you won't lose any data, it just needs to make the folder. Issue the following adb commands while in RA, and then reboot in to RA again and flash the rom:
adb shell mount /data
adb shell rm /data/app
adb shell mkdir /data/app
Update:
If after flashing you end up with any data issues then first try rebooting. If that doesn't resolve it for you then try updating your profile and PRL. This is a side effect of the different PRI's and PRL's that people have ended up on. You may actually need to update your profile and PRL a couple times to get everything going but I promise it will. You should end up on PRL 60663.
Some users have reported an issue where they can't hear a caller or a caller can't hear them. Thanks to avalaunch and beyondinferno they have a possible fix. I created an update.zip for you all to see if it resolves it for you. It wipes your dalvik-cache so expect the reboot to take a long time, just like first bootup. EvilHero 2.1.001

Standard disclaimer applies - figured I would put this just in case.
Okay, well first off I am going to start by explaining the thread title. EvilHero is basically what I call my device (evilvoice + hero) and this is a 2.1 Rom, I attached a .001 to let everyone know what stage it is in, which is the first stage. It works in what I set out for it to do. This is not for everyone, and may be only for me, but I am posting it here to get a little help and also to let other people decide for themselves if they want to use it.
This started because of Firerats MTD mod and CM6 and the inability to update my prl or do any ## codes. In using the MTD mod, CM6 RC1 only required around 105MB on system, but most 2.1 roms required a lot more space. While it is not hard to redo the whole MTD mod, it is very time consuming and you run the risk of messing up your phone until you get home, or at the very least, flash the rom you had on it before until you got home to a computer. I did a lot of searching for the smallest 2.1 rom around. This happened to be PureHero 2.1 by Konikub. I did not use any special tool to figure out size, just looked at how large the zip file was and went with the one that was the smallest, there might be smaller Sense 2.1 Roms out there, but thats what I used to select PureHero as my start.
Okay, so on to what I have done. Using PureHero 2.1 as the base, I ripped out everything except the ability to make phone calls, visual voicemail, SU, busybox, contacts, and the ability to use ## codes (including applying a MANUAL PRL update - for some reason, lost the Device Self Service tool in removing too much stuff, but no biggie since I can do a manual prl update). With this, I reduced the /system size to a mere 92.4MB...its even smaller than CM6 (a little misleading here, but I just meant that for the standard install that I was using of CM6, this rom was smaller, not that cm6 cant get smaller than this one). This is with GSD.apk on my system (but since removed in what I will be posting). It is quite stable after a first setup (meaning set your phone settings how you want them, you will probably get FCs and stuff, when done, reboot and you should not get the again except for the ones I am outlining below)
A couple of things to note:
Settings > Accounts & Sync FCs
Settings > Personalize > Default ringtone is the only thing under here that doesnt FC
Settings > Connect to PC even though it is here, it actually does nothing, even though I have the PCSCII.apk file (or whatever its called), it relies on more than just that file. Doesnt matter, I can still mount the sdcard in adb shell.
There is no market, text messaging, browser, email, video player, music player, youtube, email...like I said PHONE, ## codes, and that is PRETTY MUCH IT!
This was created to mainly be something to switch to do a prl update and switch back to CM6. Over my course of testing this rom, I have ditched the switching back to CM6. This is a modular rom - ADD WHAT YOU WANT! To give an idea: I added Opera for browser, Handcent for SMS (no MMS - need help!), K-9 for email, APKTor for market (yea not as great), I did end up adding Youtube back, andLess for music playing, have not decided on a pic viewer yet (havent even looked), Sprint Nav. Im not done adding stuff to mine, this is just what I have so far. None of these are included in the download as this is an "add your apps" rom - these are mine, you have a choice of what yours are. The only things outside of the basic Android system that is coming included is AndroZip, ADW Launcher - cause its damn near perfect, SuperUser by chainsdd, Visual Voicemail (everything but AndroZip was already included, I just updated them).
Some issues I would like help with to resolve
1. No MMS - HUGE ISSUE...maybe its because I took out MMS.apk...actually, I will put that back in and see what happens (for .002 - probably tomorrow night)
2. No market - HUGE...I never realized the benefit to the market until I had no access to it. There is nothing anywhere close to it. AppBrain requires market, so that wasnt going to be a replacement, APKTor was all I could find. My question is this: Can the market be put back in without too many google things being added back? What apk files have to be included for Market to work, I know it requires a google account. If I dont get any help, I guess I will figure it out myself, just wondering if anyone could take a look and help me out.
3. busybox can not be updated for some reason - also, when issuing a parameter on a command, it errors, but when busybox is put before, it works
Code:
df -h does not work
busybox df -h works
4. bash can not be added (or nano, remount) from the kitchen
5. Connect to computer does not work, I kept that stupid file...if its not gonna work, Im pulling the file.
6. Collins battery tweak does not work, I tested a Zen Kernel and still nothing, I guess it does not matter as I have almost everything turned off, the battery lasts a long time. Remember, adding stuff that uses data or GPS will drain the battery the same as any other rom, but this is made to compliment you...This is why I would like to get the battery tweak to work with it, so it will have better life when things get added.
Maybe people can reply with what they have added as their apps (some will be the same as it all depends on what you can find without a Market)
Credits:
Code:
Damageless (for such a great base)
Treve (for assisting D in everyway possible to put out a first class product)
Flipz (for the color sliders)
Darchstar (for AOSP aspects)
sdotcarlisle (for the amazing bootscreen)
gbhil (for his insanely awesome Kernels and overal GREATNESS)
JsChiSurf (for rocking the HERO HOUSE finding all these cool ways to change up things!!)
Avalaunchmods + TrevE (for the audio fix)
VinceOB - (for showing me good stuff)
Konikub (for putting together PureHero)
Most of this was copied from the PureHero post as he thanked them in that post, I feel since I used his as my base, I needed to thank the same people including him - If I did wrong, let me know
Removed Rom links
I am putting both up, I would try the unsigned if you can flash it, for some reason (in my tests) the signed did not work as well as the unsigned. Also, this has MMS.apk added, it is untested, but really should work as I only removed the app. I will be doing my own test on this rom later tonight or tomorrow.
PS. I am not a developer, I just removed things, edited files in notepad++ and tested. If something does not work, please bear with me in finding out what caused it. As I said previously, a lot of stuff is removed, so expect that. The only FC's I experienced is one for putting the power control widget on the launcher (1 time), and the 2 places in settings. Thanks and let me know what you think
Nice concept, would love to see where this goes.

There is actually more stuff needed, but yea, gtalk is def needed. Its funny, someone in the G1 forum posted what it depended on, and besides one framework file, I removed everything else. I really hate the implementation of gtalk. It runs all the time and I dont use it. In the same G1 thread, the poster was talking about editing the package so it wasnt dependent on anything, I may have my programmer buddy take a look at it when he gets a chance to see if he can finish the work. If there was a way for the market to not need googleapps.apk or gtalk/service.apk I would be ecstatic, as it stands now, I dont see me putting the market back.
Also, Rom links have been posted
And actually, just for the sake of argument, I modified cm 6 and gapps to minimize the size on my phone, and I have it at 89 mb but sol full functionality. I even will have maps and nav and voice search and all, but on data partition only. In could shrink a lot more actually, but don't feel the need.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
cm6 has the ability to get real tiny...if I were to remove the same things, Id say itd be around 50-60mb (maybe im just dreaming here), the issue with cm6 is that fact it does not allow prl updating. I included the newest prl in the zip which gets dumped to your sdcard...j-i-c. Android 2.2 is smaller than 2.1 - there is no way a 2.1 rom will be smaller than 2.2 with the same functionality, it just wont happen, I know that, I just wanted a small 2.1 that did prl ...maybe sprint will release a 2.2 we can use...then I will look into slimming it down like I did this one.
This was never meant to go head to head with cm6...we are talking about 2 different systems - I guess I should have pointed that out...2.2 has the potential to be WAAAY smaller than even this one.
This is a great idea and Im going to watch your progress, Im hoping someday they figure out how to get prl updated on 2.2 Such a pain right now updating it. Thanks for your work!

This is the ODEX'd version. If you're looking for the themable Deodex version, check here
THE TITLE HAS ONLY BEEN CHANGED TO CLARIFY THIS IS STILL ANDROID 2.1. The download version is still the same as before. I felt this would make more sense.
Battery Mod Is Here!
mozman has verified that the Super Circle Battery Mod with % does indeed work. Well, for those of you who know me, I've decided to finally give Android ROM building a shot. It's a learning process, but I'm picking up on it pretty quickly, and I must say it's a ton of fun so far . I owe my inspiration to the likes of theimpaler747. ASimmons, zenulator, and of course, NFinitefx45. These guys all work hard to bring you great stuff, without their advice, I'd be nothing.
I need beta testers! I've been using this ROM for some time now but I need YOU to tell me if there's anything wrong with it . Please go easy on me, I'm still learning the ropes of this stuff. Any and all feedback is appreciated! If any of you veteran ROM devs come across this, feel free to drop me some advice
Who is this ROM for?
This is for a pretty broad range of people; those who are interested in stock Sense minus the bloat. I've removed a fair amount of bloat, including all the Sprint apps and a few HTC apps/Widgets that I feel are of little value. The ROM is also fully png-optimized, as well as zipaligned. That, paired with the fact it's an ODEXed ROM (might add deodex in the future) as well as Zen's AnyKernel, makes for a quite zippy ROM that only gets faster as you use it.
What is this ROM's base?
This ROM is based off of Nfinitefx45's fantastic rooted .7 ODEX release (link). While we're on that topic, I'd like to say that all the credit for rooting/getting the base of this ROM out the door is ENTIRELY credited to Nfinite. I take no credit for the rooting process, the addition of busybox, the addition of A2SD, and anything that you see in his .7 thread. Nfinite is a genius, and he has inspired me to create this offshoot of his ROM.
So what do I gain by trying this?
Simply put? Speeeed. Lots of it. Check out the tech specs for the full skinny on why.

Addons
I suggest you use Android Commander to push these back in.
Removed System APKs - This contains all the removed Widgets and APKs from System/App. This does not include GMaps/QuickOffice. To use, unzip it, delete what what you don't want, and either adb push it into system/app or use Android Commander to do so. NOTE: If you're looking specifically for Sprint VVM, it's the apk called "sprint_core.apk". It's the only APK that isn't obviously named, sorry about that!
Removed Data APKs - This currently includes Google Maps and Quickoffice. Both of these can be DLed from the market, and it's probably easier to do it that way, not to mention the ones on the market will always be up to date. However, if you'd prefer to save a bit of time, they are here for you. They do not need to be pushed, simply drop em on your SD card, and enable Unknown Sources temporarily and install using a file manager. HINT: If you don't want to grab a file manager or want to save some time, just copy the download URL, paste it in an email message to yourself, and open it from your phone. The phone's browser will handle the downloading of the APK, and you can just tap the apk from the list of downloads to initiate the install .
Removed Ringtones - These are all the ringtones that were removed. The reason they are not in the ROM is because they are better off on your SD card, freeing up a whole 2 MB on your system memory. What I suggest you do (to avoid having to adb push all of these) is to simply make a folder on your SD card with the following path :media\audio\ringtones\ . Put all the ringtones in there, and that way, no matter what ROM you use in the future, you'll always have the ringtones in there . If you'd prefer not to do this, you can adb push or use Android Commander to push them to system\media\audio\ringtones\. NOTE: Your your android.phone process might FC if you have no ringtones present. Either create the path above on your SD card and put something on it, or push the ringtones. A minor service release might have me putting a very tiny "Silent" ringtone in the folder to prevent any FCs from happening. Again, if you store ringtones on your SD card, this won't affect you at all.

Liquid's Tips!
~ On first startup, sign into your Google account but don't do Facebook sync. Wait till you boot into the ROM, and connect to a wifi hotspot (if you have one). Once the sync icon goes away, and your google account has finished syncing, then get started with Facebook sync. Remember, Facebook sync, at least for the Contacts syncing, happens in tiers. It'll do, for instance, A-E first, wait a bit, and then it will do F-P, etc etc. Have some patience .
~ Battery! As much as always on sync is useful, there are a couple things you can do to lengthen your battery life. For instance, for Google, I always leave Gmail sync on. But ask yourself, how often are you adding/removing Contacts from your Google account? I don't do that too often, so uncheck contacts. Also, unless I have major changes to be made to my Google Calender, I also leave GCal syncing off as well. Once it finishes its first-time sync, all your events are there anyway. Next up, Facebook! The big deal for me for Facebook is that I run it once and my Contact images sync together. I'm not a big user of the Live feed. So for me, once my contacts' images finish syncing, I leave both unchecked. These two tweaks will save you some juice, because it'll drop the number of things/times your phone checks for at the specified interval.
~ GPS! I've found that using the same fix for faulty GPS locks in CM6 in this ROM actually improves the GPS lock time like mad. Grab "GPS Status" from the Marketplace and reset/redownload the A-GPS cache. After I did this, I had a super accurate lock in under 4 seconds using Google Maps
~ Task Killers! In my experience, I've found that task killers tend to do more harm than good. My suggestion is to simply place a shortcut to "Running Services" on your homescreen, and check it periodically. For instance, GTalk Service likes to come up every so often, and when it does, I just end it. For the most part, I've done well without a task killer. Android was designed to manage its memory pretty well! Again, I know this is a debated idea, so take with a grain of salt NOTE: Do not end GTalkService while using the Market. GTalkService is also the service that pushes your Google Account credentials to apps that require it, your Market being one of them.
~ Random bits:
I've found that pressing Menu while in the Sense App Drawer and switching to List View makes the scrolling a bit faster and smoother
Not using all 7 homescreens? Make sure there's no widgets on the ones you're not using. I've found marginally better performance and battery life from doing so.

So far, so good. Did a nandroid, wiped, flashed, and it booted right up. No problems.
Edit: Noticing the speed. So far very fast and snappy.
GPS works great. Just a few seconds to find my position in my house near a window.
I've been using AOSPmod for a few weeks now, but I'll try this. Might go back to sense. Will report back with results
EDIT: uhh... Having a really weird problem. the keyboard is pressing Q no matter what button I push
I might even try this one, though I'd prefer deodex.
@OP: Been looking for something like this. A lean, mean rom.
Someone else already suggested a zip with the apks that were removed incase people want to add one or two back. Personally I like SprintVVM on stock roms, for example.
Next, have you seen this slightly dated thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581976 it talks about what people have found to be safe to remove from the stock HTC rom. It's a bit dated, but most of what is written still works. Something to toy with.
Of course we could just take your rom and delete the extras ourselves -- the beauty of the game
Not bad so far. Will run awhile and see if gets laggy after awhile like all sense roms seem to do.

Runs exactly like nfx Rom.. Even though you built it based on his... good work...

Can someone tell me how many memory the system uses? I'm using firerat's custom mtd partitions and want to configure it so I can get as much available user memory as possible. Thanks.
everythings working fine so far.....its snappy too.....will try out for some more time and see if anythings going bad.

Should be ok at 160 2 on this Rom.

Good job...ROM I've been looking for as an alternative to CM6.
Since this is based on nfinites .7 stock will the kernels he posted work with this? Not a big fan of SetCPU or OC Widget and my phone is happy at 710. Actually it's happiest at 729 but I don't know how to modify the kernel to default to that
Installed and running smooth so far
Running smooth so far. Going to run it for a couple of days to see how it is on battery. I think this is the perfect ROM for me. I do not use any of the stuff you took out.

Have a Question tho? Did you leave google maps and Navigation out(didn't see it in the list in your OP)? It's ok just had to d/l from market is all I use it a little. So Far so good

[ROM] VegaComb BETA 1.7 - by TeamNewCo and TeamVillain

Welcome To VegaComb BETA 1.7!
Apologies that this has been so long in the making, I haven't been sitting idly by, but real-life responsibilities mean that I don't have anywhere near the time to work on the Vega as I once did. BUT, we are ready for a BETA 1.7 release! So, without further ado, here is what I can remember of the changelog:
Rebel1's 3G patch is now built-in to this build by default.
The /data/tombstones folder will now be automatically cleared out every reboot, to try and avoid it devouring all of your available /data space. This is a stop-gap until I can fix the problem fully.
The default Browser has been edited to remove the Asus homepage and replace it with Google, also TabletRoms.com has been added as the first bookmark.
Default dictionaries have been added to the default keyboard by popular demand! Languages are: En, De, Cs, Es, Fr, It and Nl. You will have to enable dictionary suggestions in the Keyboard settings to see these.
Default system wallpaper has been changed from the boring blue stock Honeycomb one to a much nicer abstract wallpaper.
A whole multitude of wallpapers have been added to the built-in Wallpaper-Picker, this is a mix of the nicest wallpapers I could find from the Acer Iconia, the Asus Transformer, the Motorola Xoom and some custom ones from around the net!
The Youtube app has been re-hacked to dramatically increase the quality of videos. The HQ option now works correctly to switch between high and low quality, and (while not 720p) the higher setting is VERY crisp and clear compared to before.
FLASH! Ahhhhahahahhh (think Queen). download the OFFICIAL flash player from the market (10.3 currently), download Opera Mobile from the market, watch flash. Simples. Green bar glitching, ghosting and other flash strangeness should now have been all fixed. Flash video can still be a little jerky as it is being rendered in software, overclock to get around this if you feel you have to (but it does work well at the default speed!)! BIG thanks to brucelee666 for this, when my transfer cable broke, he picked up and did a ton of testing to get this working!
Brand new (extra shiny) boot animation has been added. HUGE thanks to ThinkDevoid from the TabletROMs team for creating this for me!
The required default /system partition size for all future VegaComb releases is 155mb, we now have much more room to play with which removed a HUGE limitation that was actively holding me back!
More? Who knows, my memory is crappy
Before you update using either the 1.6-1.7 upgrade patch, or install 1.7 from scratch, you MUST be running my new ModdedStock base as this increases the /system partition size to make VegaComb BETA 1.7 fit. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS THE INSTALL WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY AND YOU WILL SOFTBRICK YOUR VEGA! Please fully read the ModdedStock thread to make sure you understand how this works!
I have been working HEAVILY in conjunction with MrGuy of TabletROMs now for a while, and especially on BETA 1.7 (Thank him for many things including the awesome YouTube app hack). Together we have now not only updated VegaComb, but now AdamComb as well for the NotionInk Adam. Vega owners owe a lot to MrGuy, so show him your love people!
Update notes from previous versions:
Code:
[I]Previous Notes:[/I]
[B]Changes in BETA1.6:[/B]
Spare Parts settings fixed - Setting power button to "Home, then sleep" now works correctly.
Bluetooth should now correctly turn on and pair "out of the box" without tweaking.
DPI settings have been changed. The default DPI is still 120, but you can now manually set this to 160 if you wish, unfortunately though the Google Apps will not function correctly at this density (although most other apps should now be fine).
Youtube app has been hacked (thanks to MrGuy for wokring with me for this!) to disable HQ playback by default on all videos. This should now mean that you can play all YouTube vids through the app. The HQ button is still there, but if you select it, the video will not play.
Default CPU speed set to 1.2ghz instead of 1ghz as there appears to be some strange speed issues when defaulted to 1ghz.
Fixed an issue where you needed root to read contents of NTFS drives.
Added OpenVPN support (thanks to Scanno!)
Hopefully fixed any lingering 3G issues (thanks to rebel1!)
Possible fix to GPS issues but this cannot be tested by me (unfortunately!).
Added a seperate download for an EXPERIMENTAL FlashPlayer hack. This hack unfortunately does not fix flash video playback on most sites (YouTube and BBC iPlayer do not work for example, but the small videos on the Yahoo news website do). What this hack DOES fix, is most other Flash applications, such as web games etc. Using this patched version of Flash, Kongregate Arcade should work correctly, as well as other apps such as Zoodles Kid Mode that use flash within the application to play games. Please use this at your own risk and report the results! Trying to play flash video using this patched version WILL crash your browser, you have been warned ;)
Added an animated VegaComb boot screen.
Possible speed increases due to various changes to the init + memory management tweaks.[B]EDIT: Apparently, this has caused a much more significant speed increase than was expected, 1.6 has been reported to be VERY fast! :)[/B]
[B]VegaComb BETA 1.5.2 Patch![/B]
Small patch to apply over the top of 1.5.1 (ONLY to be used on 1.5.1) which fixes Root (for people who upgraded) and App2SD for everyone. Link at the bottom of the thread!
[B]VegaComb BETA 1.5.1 Patch![/B]
This patch simply fixes a small issue with Wifi in 1.5, you can use the 1.4to1.5.1 patch to either upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5.1, or to patch 1.5 to 1.5.1 if you had already flashed it and have the issue :) Apologies for the bug!
[B]Welcome to VegaComb BETA 1.5![/B]
Hello all! We are back, as promised! The release cycle is slowing down a little now as expected, but we still have some damn juicy treats for you in the BETA 1.5 package :) So, without mucking about, here is what's changed since 1.4:
Speed... I spoke about this a little in the [URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMqeqcRh5pM"]development update I put on youtube[/URL], but just to clarify here... We were not happy with the overall speed of the ROM in BETA 1.4. While repairing the stability issues in 1.3, we went a little overboard with "safe" settings, making 1.4 rock solid, but noticeably slower than previous releases. We didn't want to reach a "happy medium" with part-speed and part stability... and so, there has been a full review of all the memory settings, testing dozens of combinations until we reached a setup that offers both impressive speed (at least the speed of 1.3 IMO) without (hopefully!) any of the reliability drawbacks. And so, our hope is that 1.5 will be both the fastest, AND most stable release so far!
Bluetooth should now be fully working, searching and pairing has been tested with several devices, so pair away!
The Screenshot option in the Display section of Settings was causing Force Closes, this is now fixed, so you can take screenshots of your VegaComb tablet in action :)
The 3G APN (and related) settings should now be correctly visible in the settings menu, for those of you with 3G cards.
Issue which was causing the Launcher to sometimes Force Close on boot should now be fixed.
Problem with the media scanner not correctly locating music on the MicroSD card is now resolved.
Overclock increased back to a maximum of 1.5ghz.
Xpad support should now be available again (to connect Xbox pads over USB).
The Dreaded blue light of DOOM under the camera has been banished to the fourth dimension of hell.
Force Close problem when downloading from the stock browser or Gmail/Email apps should now be fixed.
Force close that was sometimes plaguing the recent apps menu should now be fixed.
Google maps framework has been added. this was previously causing certain apps (such as Tweetdeck) to immediately force close when you logged in. These apps should now be working correctly.
We have had a whip-around and provided the Honeycombs on the boot screen with an extra face each (PHEW! Pedants, move along, nothing to see here :P)
Shutdown menu has now been put in place (thanks to the AMAZING work of HomerSp), it is not the ordinary power menu, but a lovely custom one that provides you with the options for: Home, Shut Down, Reboot and Reboot to Recovery!
Because of the new shutdown menu, the recovery reboot app has now been removed (not needed!).
Added working screen calibration app. This will help with most issues (like home/back buttons) but does not fix the top-of-screen sensitivity issue as of yet I'm afraid!
App drawer has been edited to remove the bottom row of icons, so you can now better access the screen previews below them when placing a shortcut :)
Again, there may be other stuff that was fixed and forgotten :P Let us know if you find anything!
[B][I]I also want to make an important note for those who are confused... I am NOT working on this ROM alone, this has been a group effort from the start. Originally worked on by myself and Corvus (with help from the guys here at TabletROMS. Since then we hooked up with HomerSp (LEGEND!) who does magic things with Android that I really don't understand (some say he's a clone grown at google), and the project has moved in leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, Corvus has recently been forced to back out of this project due to time limitations in his real life, with work and family, so now it is primarily myself and Homer who work on VegaComb. I hope this clears things up, credit where credit is due![/I][/B]
[b]Welcome to VegaComb BETA 1.4 - Codename: Arnold Veganator (Hasta La Vista Processes)![/b]
As promised! BETA 1.3 was more of a features update, trying to get the ROM more in-line with where we would like it giong forwards, cleaning up files, opimizing and getting as much as possible working. We realized at that time that tehre were memory issues with the build, but we are trying to take a modulated approach to developing this ROM, so one step at a time :)
1.4 is primarily a performance release. You won't see any HUGE new features here (other than Huawei 3g support, thanks to rebel1!) but a lot has gone on in the background to try and make this ROM useable as your daily OS. Memory values have been tweaked, the kernel has been re-compiled with HoneyComb specifically in mind and (hopefully!) all of the freezes and hard lockups present in 1.3 have now been eradicated.
[b]Changes in BETA 1.4[/b]:
Kernel has been recompiled from scratch (thanks to @HomerSp!) gearing it for HoneyComb. [I]Some features such as xpad support are not yet present in this kernel, they will be added back in soon, but there shouldn't be much other than that.[/I]
Kernel bug that was preventing lowmemorykiller from working effectively has been fixed in this build.
Memory tweaks made in init to values better suited to both the Vega and to Honeycomb.
CPU clocking now defaults to 1ghz instead of 1.5, the top-end has been lowered down to 1.4 for now (this will be put back to 1.5 hopefully in the next release). Install SetCPU (from XDA) or download CPU Master from the market (free) to overclock if you want.
Support for Huawei 3G dongles added (HUGE thanks to rebel1 for this patch!) - this has NOT been tested as of yet, as I don't own a 3g dongle! :P
EGL patch tweaked slightly taking a new approach, hopefully making this simpler to manage in the future.
The issue where the battery indicator was not updating correctly MAY be fixed in this build (not 100% confirmed yet)
Replaced an icon I missed when the BACK button is pressed (oops!)
Adjusted a couple of apps to save some space in /system.
[I]Please make sure you ask for help and post bugs in the threads provided, I am getting WAY too many PM's to answer them all (sorry, don't take it personally!).[/I]
[B]Changes in BETA 1.3[/B]
Switched to Transformer Frameworks - Better fit for our hardware and to stay in line with what the Adam guys are doing.
New frameworks are more streamlined, should make the UI feel snappier overall.
Framework edited which should allow all web related apps to render correctly (not flash)!
[i]This means that you can now use browsers you download from the market like Miren and Dolphin, and news readers such as Pulse will now work.[/i]
Wifi issue that caused you to need to reboot after the first flash before Wifi would turn on is now fixed. You can connect straight away after flashing the ROM!
Corporate email setup added to Accounts & sync (all security settings work correctly, but remote wipe does not factory restet the device as of yet, but is does disconnect the emails).
Screenshot function added (select in Settings > Display). You can take screenshots by long-press of the Recent Apps softkey.
The Calendar app is back from Vacation and ready to organize your life.
The Books app has gotten over it's shyness and now shouldn't dissapear shortly after boot. This is still slightly strange so it might go walkies if you don't pin it down :/
Working Recovery Reboot app added, this one works so you no longer need gscript to reboot to recovery! (thanks to Paul O'Brien for this app!)
VegaComb Beta simple boot logo added.
REALLY annoying black fade on the right-side when using the notifications popup has been removed as it refused to display correctly.
MicroSD card now correctly displays as what it is, instead of showing as Internal USB storage.
Moving apps to the MicroSD should now work correctly, and apps launch fine, even if you have USB debugging turned on.
USB external storage now shows correctly, and gives a notification when it is plugged in (you can click on the notification to browse files or dismount the USB storage).
Can now correctly mount FAT, EXT and NTFS USB storage and browse through the file browser.
When you connect the Vega to the PC with your USB cable, you now get a notification allowing you to mount your SD card over the USB to share your files!
Doubled the ammount of memory that was available to apps in order to try and combat some of the freeze-up issues (MAKE SURE YOU WIPE DALVIK CACHE WHEN YOU INSTALL THIS BETA!)
Other stuff I've forgotten again :/
[B]Welcome to VegaComb BETA1a[/B]...
1a release is a very small patch to the installer script to make sure everything is installed correctly!
[B]What's new in BETA1?[/B]
This is a HUGELY new build, and has required a ton of testing, so please bear this in mind :P
Files have been streamlined and some slowdown bugs should have been fixed, you should see a nice little speed increase in this build.
SuperUser is FINALLY fixed! [B]No... I really mean it this time :P[/B]
WiFi has been patched. You will still have to reboot as it will lock the first time you try to turn it on, but after that it should be much more stable than before, and shouldn't require you to toggle WiFi on/off all the damn time.
The Dolby Audio section in the Settings menu was causing Force Close errors, so this has now been removed from the menu completely.
Web browser has been hacked to prevent you having to disable EGL rendering in order for it to work.
Gmail and Email apps have been FIXED. You can now read your emails in both apps, they should be working perfectly as far as I have tested.
Bluetooth libs and binaries have been added. Bluetooth now turns on without any errors, but I cannot yet confirm if it actually works. If someone tests this, please let me know!
WiFi has been patched to connect correctly to ad-hoc networks. So you can now tether your Vega to a phone such as the HTC Hero.
The whole image has been SHRUNK (massively) to fit into the Vega's default partition size. It's a hell of a squeeze, and some apps have had to be pushed to /data to make it fit. All of these are apps that can be re-downloaded from the market like maps etc) other than two, the Android keyboard (it's a huge file :P) and the Android Music app. If you prefer to use a different keyboard, you can remove this one, but if you wipe /data, you will have NO keyboard installed, and the world might implode :P
This is now a ClockworkMod image, designed to be used on the Vega's default partition tables, so DO NOT flash this over the top of ALPHA4. Re-flash 1.09 (or some other standard image) before installing this through CWM. You now have a healthy 293mb to play with in /data, so you can download stuff off the market without worrying like in ALPHA4 :)
OK, LOTS more stuff has changed, but I can't remember a lot of it, I'm sure it will come back to me, but my brain is a little fried right now and I need a beer :P
[B]Updates from ALPHA4:[/B]
Gapps WORKING! (Huge effort on IRC, big thanks to MrGuy!)
NTFS usb drives should now be detected in host mode (not tested)
Moved some apps to /data and shrunk the /system partition to 260mb to give you some more space now that the market works!
3D Photo Browser, Books, Maps, Youtube, Google Talk and Music Apps moved to /data (you can uninstall them from there to save space, if you wipe data/factory reset you will lose them!)
Browser patched to turn off EGL rendering by default, so no more need to use about:debug anymore.
SuperUser fixed!! (Hopefully properly this time! :P) [B](ONLY JOKING I BROKE IT AGAIN! :P)[/B]
Other stuff I've forgotten :P
[B]Updates fromAlpha3:[/B]
SD Card is now detected
Audio fixed (HomerSp, legend :) )
WiFi Fixed (Guess who? :P ) (This is still buggy, the first time you turn it on, it will not work. Reboot, then try again. Sometimes need to toggle on/off to get it running)
G-Sensor fixed (yup, you can rotate happily now!)
Bottom-Bar Home button fixed.
Lock screen added.
Hardware buttons now work, power to sleep/wakeup etc.
Added Spare Parts, you can set power to home/sleep.
Root and Superuser added (you should be able to use CPU tools to overclock now). [B][I](WHOOPS I BROKE THIS! SEE BELOW ON HOW TO FIX!)[/I][/B]
Bunch of changes in build.prop
More updated libs and binaries than you can shake a llama at.
[B]Initial Features from Alpha1:[/B]
It boots!
Hardware Acceleration!
Widgets.
Most (not tested) android apps should run.
What doesn't work (updated as of 1.7):
Camera Still FC.
Flash player doesn't work in apps or in the default browser (Opera Mobile only!)
Battery indicator doesn't always update correctly (wipe battery stats tog et around this).
Audio has been reported as "Tinny" - we are looking in to this.
Factory reset (and remote exchange wiping) not working.
Cannot connect to PEAP Wifi networks.
We will keep working on this!
CREDITS!
Myself and Corvus have put a whole ton of work in to this, but there are others who deserve praise for all of their work:
HomerSp, for his brilliant work on fixing the Hardware acceleration, sound, wifi, the world, curing cancer and generally being awesome!
The guys working on the NotionInk Adam port here at TabletROMs - They have helped us a LOT both with their original port to use as a base, and a wealth of help they have given us on IRC to get this working, our original port was based on files from the SDK, Xoom and Transformer, we are now completely basing our work on their amazing ROM (which is based on the Transformer and Iconia) Thanks guys!.
MrGuy has worked with me extensively on version 1.7 (and with lots of parts before!), so HUGE thanks to him!
Lenny from VillainROM. Lenny has pretty much tested and approved EVERY build of VC to date, given opinions and hilighted bugs. Thanks a lot man!

cool intersting times ahead! good luck on port, hopefully 3.0 sourcecode out sometime soon
In the title it says xoom(ish) port but it looks more like a transformer port in the video? Either way Honeycoooooomb! Good luck guys
Good luck and keep up the good job!
It is a mix of all 3. SDK, Transformer and Xoom. I took a few libs from the Xoom, as well as a ton of stuff from the Adam Transformer port and the SDK files factored in too. It's kind of a Frankenstein-monster effect going on Changed the title to reflect this!
Cool, great work. Am pretty certain the source will actually be released soon. Googles i/o is on tuesday and am sure this is when they are gunner announce or hopefully release the source for honeycomb, or possibly icecream, which will be a mashup of gingerbread and honeycomb am sure.
So hopefully that will help getting honeycomb onto the vega
Well done guys, keep the good work going.

FRESH TODAY 9th May 2011 11:30AM EDT
Cross collaboration between devs of sister tablets in the ##adamroot freenode IRC channel this morning!
Devs: HomerSp got hardware acceleration working, newbe5 got it working on the Advent Vega (video demo below) and DJ_Steve applied them to the Adam HC rom and confirmed to now be working smoothly!
9th May 2011 12:05 EDT
DJ_Steve showsoff hardware acceleration implementation on Notioink Adam.
I encourage guys, let's take the VEGA to infinity and beyond
your second video looks pretty smooth any reason why a dev only download isnt appropriate ? not pushing this is amaing work you must have great patience just intrigued
Curious to know how much space is left for app install after Honeycomb is put on the vega???

I'm staggered at how smooth H/C is from the video!
I did try but i had a falling out with nvflash so i'll look forward to a update.zip I can use, I assume when wifi is working!
I did spy from the video there didn't seem to be any gApps, I assume this will be added unless there is a seperately gApps download for H/C?

hopefully honeycomb sourcecode released at todays event at 5 oc'lock london time, who nows we might even get an update from advent or pov.

i'd be surprised tbh!
I was under the impression from Advent we would be getting 2.3 and the source code has been out for quite some time and still nothing. yet you can get a CM nightly which is 2.3.4.
Unless they've had access to the H/C as a vendor and been working on that but some how i doubt it :S
Wow, a mention on the front page!
Congrats on this, guys!
Wow. Does this mean hardware acceleration may make its way into other Android devices? I hope so!

[3-9-12][ROM][EP4D] InfinityROM

NOTE: I will support this here as well, and am posting here so others can see the ROM as well. However, I will keep the post and information more up-to-date on Rootzwiki. I don't have time to browse through a bunch of different forums for support questions and other requests, so please keep that in mind when posting here.
With that being said, here is what you've been waiting for. This is the continuation of the last InfinityROM that was created based on the EP1W leak. A lot has changed since then, way to much to go through and update in the posts of the previous topic, so we are starting out fresh. This ROM is based on the official OTA that just recently got sent out to DROID Charge users everywhere. From there, it went through a major weight loss session, and got a full make over to get the wonderful orange and brown stock color scheme out. Much of the theming work was originally done by Retrokid223, and has been brought into this new ROM by myself. We went for a TouchWiz 4 look from the SGS2, mainly because it is currently the look that I like.
To go through a brief history of what this ROM has gone through to get to its current release state, here is a slight Cliff Notes run-down. I took the update and went from EE4 to EP4D. I then dumped the stock ROM from my phone and deodexed it. From there, I went to work taking out a bunch of stuff that people don't want, and things that are easily installed from the market. After that, I replaced a small handful of TouchWiz apps with their AOSP equivalents, and rethemed everything, updating icons and images as needed from newer SGS2 and also SGS ROMs that have been released into the wild since EP1W came out. A few tasteful mods have also been added, and from here, TSM Parts will follow shortly.
This ROM is mainly so people can continue to use InfinityROM and the latest update without having the ugly stock color scheme. I will try to keep a TSM Parts free version updated as changes are made, but not everything will remain free of TSM parts changes forever. This initial release does not have anything major TSM additions in it yet, but those are on their way for the people that want them (myself included). Many apps have remained stock, though they have been rethemed to ditch the stock color scheme. The reason for this is to keep the added functionality of the TouchWiz versions, cause the AOSP versions of many of the apps are lacking in the usability department. Stuff that has been replaced has been from a stock, deodexed dump of 2.3.7 from the Nexus S.
To go with the great ROM, is a great repacked kernel. Since you can only do so much to a stock kernel when repacking it, I kept the EP4P kernel from the last test version of the ROM with the current update. This will be replaced in the coming weeks once I can get a source built kernel going. There are only minor changes to the kernel that is included, so it's nothing really special, but it gets the job done.
Screenshots will be added at a later date, along with what are likely to be several additions that users can put into the ROM (stock keyboards and other items). For now, this is what you get, and stay tuned for future updates, as there is more to come.
Installation Instructions

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get root access?
Download and install Superuser from the market. The su binary that is required should already be there via the kernel, all that is required is its complimentary application.
How do I install the ROM?
See the first post of this thread.
How do I go from XXX to this ROM?
The fastest way to go to this ROM from anything is by downloading and flashing the ROM+Kernel on EXT4 package. That will format your partitions to EXT4 and then install the kernel and ROM. Note that this will wipe all of your user data in the process, so be sure to backup anything you may want prior to flashing.
Where is Gmail, YouTube, Maps, etc.
All Google applications were removed from the ROM. This was to make sure that you are running an up-to-date version on your device and it also saves some bandwidth when the ROM is downloaded.
Does this kernel support Voodoo?
The kernel does not use the Voodoo Lagfix functions. However, it does fully support EXT4 partitions. Voodoo Lagfix is meant so partitions can be converted to and from RFS/EXT4. To do this, the boot process is slowed down for partition checks and conversion. To avoid this, I just enabled EXT4 support so you can still reap the benefits of the improved read/write capabilities without having to wait for the phone to boot up.
Voodoo sound is another matter entirely and can be enabled (in part) by using Voodoo Control Plus. This will allow you to load a beta Voodoo Sound driver that supports many of the functions of Voodoo Sound. Until source code is release for Gingerbread though, full Voodoo Sound support will be unavailable.
Does this kernel support overclocking?
No it does not. Source code will need to be released before many features, such as overclocking can be included.
Do you have plans to include XXX in your ROM?
The current plans for this ROM are to bring in TSM parts, and any updates to that it receives as well. There may be some other updates outside of TSM Parts, but currently, there are no other major plans. If you would like to see something included, please link to what you would like and it will be taken into consideration.
I am having xxx issue, can you fix it?
We can certainly try, however, we will need some information from you first. In order to fix a problem, we need as much information as possible from you about it. Please provide details of the issue, such as the application name you are having problems with. If you can reproduce the issue consistently, provide the details on how to do so, that way we can attempt to recreate it ourselves. If it is a graphical glitch, try to get a screenshot of the problem, or a regular camera picture. The most valuable information you can provide is logcat output, see below on capturing a good log for us.
How can I get a good log of a problem I am having?
There are two methods you can use to get a log for us. The easiest method is to use aLogcat from the market. An alternative method is to use adb on your computer. If you do not know how to save the adb output from logcat to a text file, I recommend using aLogcat. Once you are ready to capture a log, start logcat from adb, or aLogcat. With the log still running in the background, recreate your issue several times (3 to 4 times should be sufficient). Once you have recreated the issue multiple times, stop the logging and save the log file. With aLogcat, it will be saved to your SDCard. Then, take your log output and send it to us, preferably via PM. The reason we request via PM is that sometimes, logcat can capture personal information, such as your email address or phone number. Rest assured that we have no interest in this and will use the output strictly as a debugging tool to help fix whatever issue you are reporting. We hate spam just as much as you do. I have also attempted to remove as much of the debugging output of personal information as possible, but I can't catch everything. In any event, I still recommend learning to use logcat from the Android SDK, as it is an invaluable tool.
Also, if you are reporting a graphical bug (something that needs themed), please get a screenshot of what you see that needs changed. Note that we cannot change everything. If it is from an application that is not included with the ROM, it may be much harder to fix the problem as sometimes apps do not pull their color information from the ROM and hard code their own colors. This is most noticeable in the quick panel notifications. However, it is still possible that something was missed, so feel free to submit reports of anything that you feel has yet to be themed.
Help, I restarted into recovery and lost all of my data!
This is an issue that affects people randomly. My opinion is that you can deal with it for the time being. I recommend using a good backup solution that doesn't involve recovery. I say this because I test ROMs and have had my data wiped hundreds of times due to testing over the past several weeks. If I can deal with resetting everything all the time as the developer, you, as the user, should also be able to make due until a permanent solution can be found.
How can I thank you for your work?
Just click the thanks button on our posts. We do this for fun, but if you wish to a monetary donation, click the Donate button by my Profile Picture.
How can I get XXX app to vibrate on new notifications?
It seems that some applications are ignoring the global vibrate notification setting. To fix this, go into the application and press the menu button and go to settings (or however you get to the application settings). Find the notification settings, and turn on vibrate. It seems that messaging is the biggest complain among people, and this should solve the problem.
I created a theme for your ROM but have no where to host it
If you send me a link to your theme, I will host it for you on my site (imnuts.org). Note that I may not get to your message for hosting immediately, and also I won't host any theme that isn't tasteful and clean. If I find out that you are porting a theme without permission, your file(s) will be removed immediately and any further actions appropriate will be taken.
Can XXX be added to the FAQ?
While we strive to keep up with posts, sometimes we may overlook a repeated question or issue. If you see something you would like posted in the FAQ, feel free to ask. We only ask that you put your request in the following format:

Thanks....cant wait to see how it looks!!!
awesome job bud
it can be a pain to maintain rom threads across multiple forums, but there are those that only frequent one forum so its helpful to them
You are the man! Can't wait for tw4.
just wondering...how long should it take for first boot?
been hangin out at this SGII logo for about 5 minutes
EDIT: battery pull, reboot to recovery, wiped dc, boots fine now
I usually hang out here and on RootzWiki so if I ever see any questions about this ROM, I'll try to answer them as best as I can for you (imnuts).

That happens occasionally on any rom after a dalvik wipe. Not sure why, but it seems like something just gets hung up sometimes.
LOVE IT!!!!!!
Thanks for the new rom. Works great and I love the color scheme. I just wish I could find some GS2 widgets that would work with this rom and I'd be set for life

That may arrive in a future update. Need to talk with the TSM Fascinate folks about the rest of the TW4 integration.
Flashing now through CWR. Cannot Wait! Grazie!

Look at the GT-I9100 (SGS2) and it's stock look/theme and that is basically what this will look like. You could also get an idea of the look from the T-Mo/Sprint SGS2 variants, as well as several original SGS variant Gingerbread updates. I'll post some screenshots then when I get a chance to take them.
Awesome ROM!! Running smooth as butter. Only downside is i've already had the random data wipe after booting into recovery to flash the Minimal Theme. But I definitely like where this is going.
Sweet thanks, gave me another reason to stay up late and not talk to the wife.
Very nice
Very nice rom....clean slick to the point no bloat. I like being able to decide what is on my phone or not. Great Job, I may have a reason to keep this thing now...lol
Awesome and thanks! The Rom is working fabulously for me so far. Hoping that themers will take you up on your offer and begin themeing soon. Always love blue based themes myself.
Thanks again for the Rom!
Oh, by the way, do you plan on always packaging your kernel with the Rom or will you ever separate it as a stand alone download?
