jiayu g3 (chinese smartphones) - General Topics

hi wanted to ask about buying a chinese smartphone (in particular the jiayu g3)
for the simple reason - it's more affordable!
i'm not looking to root it or do anything tech just want to keep it stock standard. been trying to find out more and mixed reviews. many people seem to like them bc they are easy to root (but like i said that's not a reason i want to invest) also i few people are saying there can be connectivitity problems using it in the uk/out of china with the 3g etc (hard to configure vpn setting or sth)
basically i want a reliable smartphone (at a reasonable price).
is it a case of you get what you pay for - there is a rep of chinese phones having bad build
here in the uk is that the main competetors are samsung iphone sony xperia
i like the adroid os hence dont want to go iphone but i dont like the new samsung galaxy serises (though currently use the galaxy s captivate i897 from the states)
i love the xperia z but its just too big i want a 4-4.5 inch screen
the huawei p6 is very sleekly designed but again not a big name in the uk therfore not sure about investing.....
in terms of design the bbz10 is exactly what i'd go for but i refuse to move to bb os.

[Canadian] The big @$$ Canada Thread

Hi all,
Searched for one big Canadian updates thread haven't found any, though I would creat this one.
I'm back with my Galaxy S2 LTE HD on CM 10.1 , after I sold my S3 in anticipation of the S4.
Now I want your opnion (some of you will like this)
Imagine you are a long time Nokia fan (don't ask me why!) you move to another country, you find a carrier with good monthly plan, you get a phone (that happens to be an entry level Android) you are excited to what it is capable of.
your friend the geek tell you about all the apps you can install, but your Android 2.3 phone gives you out of memory errors (you have no clue how to solve that), you miss having a front facing camera and on top of that one day you drop the phone and smash its screen.
Now you want a new phone. you call your geek freind in Canada (you see now where this is going) and he is totally unfamiliar with most of the models that are in offer, you discover together that the company runs a CDMA network :silly: . So this excludes most of the NORMAL phones, you also discover that they charge alot for models tat came out 2 years back, cheaply bought second hand off ebay!
You are on a budget , you want the best phone for the least price. your friend reach out for the community to help him out (Ok now you are getting it) and he asks the community to take a look at :
virgin mobile usa --> Phones
and decide which phone the friend should buy.
This is a great excercise , because some of the phones are not familiar so you are only armed with your knowledge of the brands and the features/specifications listed & expected performance.
let me know, the story is real, he is still waiting using a crappy phone from the carrier's recycling bin!

Broke my Htc One, looking for a temporary low-budget phone

Hello,
As the title states, I broke my 1-year-old HTC One, and I'm looking to buy a new temporary low-budget smartphone. (w/o contract)
Having previously broken a relatively high number of devices from numerous brands and types (yes, i'm that clumsy), and currently not willing to splash the cash, I'm just looking for a smartphone, that can simply just run the usual apps, and that would last me at least 5-6 months until a new set of phones are released into the market.
I have a rather decent experience with android devices, so I'd prefer them over Windows phones, but anything would work.
My budget is around 150$, and I'm really unwilling to surpass 200$
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you
-George Kayogre
Definitely the Moto G! You can pick one up for 150 bucks or so off contract I believe. Although if you have Verizon you can only use the G with their prepaid plans.

[Completed] Looking for a backup phone

Hey guys,
I've been looking for a cheap backup phone. My current carrier is T-mobile prepaid.
I'm looking for a phone w/ LTE capabilities, Android or windows 8.1, and must be cheap! I'd say my budget is around 120-130 USD max. I prefer a new handset please (warranty purposes). Any reputable seller is fine.
Some phones I found:
Samsung Galaxy Light
LG F3
LG F6
Nokia Lumia 635
What would you guys recommend?
The question you're asking is complicated. As there are many variables in choosing a device, because every user is slightly different in their needs. The one suggestion I can definitely make is, choose a phone with a good ( strong ) support. It avoids a lot of the pitfalls, and issues related to owning a device. Especially if you plan on Rooting, or Modding the device. Because if an issue arises it is easier to find / get help. As for where to purchase a device I would suggest checking out the link below.

Well from what I'm seeing, there aren't that many phones to choose from in the first place. All I really want is the best overall phone. I don't really care much for rooting and whatnot as this is just a backup phone. The main feature I want is LTE while being cheap. I will mostly use the web browser and watch videos on the go. Nothing too major.
Again, it's a tough task to suggest a specific device. Because as I stated there are many variables. I would suggest making a list of your wants, and needs. Then look for a device with as stated before, good support. Best of luck .

New Upcoming Smartphones?

Does anyone know a list of all the next generation high end smartphones that will come up in the next few months?
Im starting university in october and I want to buy a smartphone that will suit my studies (computer science) . I want it to have a high end camera, fast in terms of multitasking (switching between apps fast and get the job done quickly) and maybe with stock Android L .
My current samsung s3 is laggy now..especially all those apps coming from samsung like (gallery, camera,my files etc.) I dont know if they fixed it on the newer versions like the s4 or s5. But I think I want something different this time. Dont tell me about galaxy nexus I dont like it.
So yea I want the stock apps to be fast too..
Any phone recommendations?

The Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3 are both old business now; you would probably have a very different experience with any flagship from 2013 or 2014, which for the most part all have more than sufficient hardware. However, if you want to wait for the latest and greatest, there will probably be word of the next Nexus sometime within the next couple months.

Would need some advice for buying an old (Or Used) Android device under 300Euros

Hey all. Thx in advance for assisting me.
Its going to be soon my 3 years with my girlfriend. My GF smartphone is done, ( Jiayu G3C ) she will need a new one really soon.
I was thinking to gift her with an old but still solid smartphone. I have currently a Galaxy S4 I9005. I´m thinking to buy her a Galaxy s5 Mini, Im not sure it is the best choice of a smartphone costing under 300Euros i´m scared its too obsolete and lacking power for Android 6.0, the smartphone can be used I don´t mind
Another concern would be if my galaxy s4 is faster (More fluid) than the s5 Mini have not a clue ( I can have for 260Euros a new S4 and 240Euros a S5Mini) . The water proof thing is cool in all but not the most important. the smartphone need to be under 5" screen and be 100% fluid fast other than that camera or sensors are just extra but not needed.
Thanks a lot if you reached here Best regards Peps
