Hello xda forums,
When I try to connect to google play it says "connection timed out". I think the cause of this is my slow internet connection. I bought 1 GB unlimited internet service from my provider and after I used the 1 gb with speed they cut my internet speed to 96 kbps (as I agreed to that). I was able connect just fine before I used the 1 gb. Anyways I think thats the reason. I tried to remove updates on both hoohle play app and service, still, none helped. I wont be able to connect to a strong wifi until sunday and it is really bad that I cant download any apps or in app purchases. Is there any way I can pass this? Is there any way for me to connect to google play with this connection? I can use the internet (obviously -.-) just fine, its just a little slow. Any ideas?
Thanks..

I've had the same issue on slow internet connections. I'm not sure you can do anything to make the connection faster than it is. Do you have a data plan, or is there a coffee shop with free internet somewhere near by? Those could be possible short term solutions.
Disable background data and ads.
Internet connection speed may increase. Use Firewalls.
If I were in the city I would solve it by going to a place with internet or my home internet but I'm in a country-side place so no internet cafe's or shops with internet is present.
And yes ia have a data plan, but my data plans speed is slow giving me 96 kbps speed (around 12 kilobytes/second) but I'm free to use it unlimited without any extra charges and background apps wont help it..

Then bare with that... no way out...
I have same issue, im from philippines and im using 3g, my connection is fast because i can watch movies from the internet without buffering, but these past 5 days when im connecting to google play, i cant even go to home, its always connection time out,
Whats the problem with google play?

I fixed it, found out that it was "freedom" somehow blocking google play.. Disabled and re-enabled, works like a charm....

Glad you got it working, I was gonna say, at 96kb/s it should still work fine.
I have a similar plan that after 600MB it goes from max speed down to 128kb/s and it still works fine albeit slower.

Do you use the wifi feature on your thunderbolt and if so have you used it in your gaming console and do you get lag on it?
I'm assuming you mean mobile hotspot feature and I have tried it and yes I do get lag. The mobile hotspot does not give great constant signal so there are many breaks and drop outs. I would not recommend using this but give it a shot if you want.
Hope this helps
The factory mobile hotspot app has a cap on the speed. I get better results from other tether apps.

Agreed, you will get better results from additional tether apps that are offered.

+1
even using other tether apps, things like online gaming and streaming video are not exactly ideal
Tried xbox live through it and was disconnected while searching for any online games. I would say that it's probably not the best idea.
I play wow, with vent and sometimes pandora on 2-3 bars of 3g with low pings...
Edit: using easytether (wired)

I played some games and downloaded so songs with PDA net on my desktop. It was really fast on 4G. But you have to pay for PDA net aftrler awhile. I use wireless tether to connect my xoom when I need it

Haven't messed with the wireless to much I'd go with a third party app for it. Or USB tether. Can run xbox live with usb tether even without much problems. Atleast in my experience

just got the galaxy s and used up my 2 gigs in one day, now the internet is so slow I cant even load the market. Is there anyway to bypass this I need unlimited.

I believe you can upgrade to a 5 or 10 gig at an extra cost. Curious as to how you burned 2 gigs in one day though.

Chances are you have unlimited. But it doesn't matter as soon as you hit your cap you will be throttled. I'm allotted 5gb a month and if I use it all before my next billing cycle I have the same problem as you. My suggestion to you would to use wifi if available or change your data plan.

Sorry but if that was possible we would all tell T-Mobile to suck it and get free data.

I remember people cheating this on AT&T and they were busted cuz' AT&T found out. My humble suggestion is stay with the 2gb plan and try to get internet for your house. I also use my phone as main internet but I keep it cool. I have only managed to get to 4.3gb in a month using the tv shows apk. Never been able to use more than 5gb.
I know, it s**ks to be throttled. I have 2 friends that always get throttled and they want to die. LOL
hello, this not the case with me. I'm in bay area if that's matter, and im not being throttled now for 4 months in a raw.But i am with one of those grandfathered plans 20 unlimited.I have it with the blackberry 8120 witch bought 2007 it was edge.So right now im doing about 20 gb per month on average , but still not tethering .Im starting to tether tough due to very high prices on Comcast and the speed is comparable with t mobile. But i will try not not being throthled again becouse of a tethering - there is way to hide you from the pc.
some games like gameloft require a wifi connection to download the data...the problem is I have a 7.2mgbs data plan conc so how can I use it instead of wifi...is there a way do fake my plan as a wifi connection?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
I don't think they require it, just that they recommend using wifi. I have downloaded some games from gameloft myself and I had no problem using 3g.

asphalt 6 for example has only the wifi option to download the data I can't by 3g

Someone please have a legit answer to his question. I want to play Order and Chaos via 3/4G!!
Have you tried turning on wifi tether and see if it tricks the game to think you are on wifi and not 3g. just a dumb idea but it might work.
You could always go to a "shady" site and download the SD card data via PC. Or I suppose you could have a friend setup their phone as a wifi hotspot so that you could download that way.
These are all workarounds but...if one want's to play Order and Chaos via 3/4g
I have a phone and a tab and can tether my tab and play but ideally this would be nice to be able to accomplish with one device on it's own. Someone has to be clever enough to code a way to make apps think there is a valid connection, probably some iptables wizardry and place the wifi adapter into loopback mode if possible.
i get crappy internet where i live so i added the mobile hot spot feature to my phone...i had trouble with the wifi tether and barnacle and all that but when i play online its laggy as hell, any suggestions on how to improve that?

afaik you can't 'improve' tethering, it either works or its a crap connection as it depends on your phone's signal strength... I get good results with the wifi tether 3.0 (or 3.1 can't remember ) pre-12 version, though I don't play xbox over the connection so I couldn't say if it works okay
I have 4g full bars, its very annoying, I can surf the web alright but online gaming is pretty bad.

I use open garden and I can play Xbox with no lag at all. On 4g of course.

Probably your ping times or NAT, neither of which can be helped much. 4G is plenty fast for XBL.

Xbox live runs great with my 4g connection.

So I noticed today that most of my data is going through Adblock. Just wondering if this is due to it monitoring traffic for ads so its routed through the app.
This is my first Android device and I'm a bit apprehensive having all my internet traffic go through an app that isn't on the Play Store.
