Bootloader hangs / OS hands - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi guys,
I was flashing sense 5 3.6+ota updates on my Rogers Evita, i had 3.5 before and it all went well surprisingly.
now i flash TWRP for evita 2.6 as recommended, i was able to get in, clean cache, flash ROM, flash the new boot.img as suggested, and got stuck on a bootloop.
Tried going back in TWRP, and now i see the Teamwin screen, then to htc screen than hangs.
I tried version 2.5 and 2.6 of TWRP get same results, same with clockwork. So My guess is that my problem doesnt come from the recovery file, but elsewhere ..
Current phone status:
S-On
Hboot 2.14
Radio 0.23a
Thanks!

That worked for the bootloader, so far so good.
I'm back to bootlooping, probably need a different boot image. Flushed the whole SD started from scratch, and still bootlooping hehe

Rom includes boot image. Reflash the rom. Then fastboot flash the boot.img from the rom. You just installed, wipe cache, and dalvik. A factory reset after woukdnt hurt either

Yeah i always flash the rom included in the zip file, thats why i'm surprised about bootlooping.

This may sound silly, but you're flashing 3.6 on top of r3 right?

Yes i am
I tried Cyanogen, just for fun of trying another room, i get the same boot freeze as with Sense 5

I don't know why it's looping, it shouldn't be if you're following the correct procedure. Are you doing a full wipe, then flashing the ROM, and then flashing the boot.img from that ROM in fastboot?

Yeah, i am always flashing the boot included in roms, but somehow my bootloader always show 2.14 after flashing ... that might be why i cant get it to work

Your bootloader will always show 2.14 unless you get a firmware update. Flashing ROMs does not change your hboot.

Well anyone knows what's the solution? flashing the embedded boot.img did not help.

It's really difficult to diagnose the problem without actually being there. Can you please provide a detailed step-by-step account of what you're doing when you flash the ROM and boot.img.

You can flash roms but you have to flash boot.img separately either with fastboot while in bootloader or with app called flash image GUI just befor you flash Rom. You can also change radio using Temporary radio instaler. The only problem for you could be the WiFi not working on sertain roms. But that does not happen to everybody.

Wait so all I have to do is that flash boot boot.IMG process before I flash a Rom. And do I use the app while on my stock Rom . And when do I use boot.IMG processes
Sorry I just did a little research and answered my own question. Oh and is temporary radio installer an app or what
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Yes look for Flash Image GUI App. You can flash boot.img before rebooting to recovery. Just open app, browse for your Rom, select it, wait until the app extract the boot.img, select flash boot.img, wait, the you'll get a toast message succesfull, then press reboot recovery, wipe everything a few times, flash Rom, wipe cache and dalvik cache again, reboot system.
The temporary radio installer its a zip, you can flash it in custom recovery if you need to change radio.
I also recommend to get a wiping script from ..Awesome.. ( its in devepomnent forum as well) its a zip file, flash from recovery, it will "full wipe your phone" .
I find it better then wiping in twrp recovery.
Good luck.

No need for the script. You only need to factory reset and wipe system in TWRP which formats it and not delete it.
Yes, no need, but wiping in twrp did not work for me sometime so if I change roms, I run script as well. If twrp would work 100% no need to do it 2 - 3 times isn't?

TWRP has always worked for me as well. CWM has also always worked for me (on my other devices).
The only thing I wipe more than once is cache and dalvik-cache (before and after rom installation, a total of 2 times wasting ~5sec or so), and I've never had any issue, on ANY of my devices (I have access to an Xperia P in addition to the ones listed in my sign., and Ive helped a couple of friends with flashing/rooting/etc as well)
I have been searching ALL day and can't find it I have hboot 1.14 on my new replacement One S, and I desperately need to update the radio. My room is an absolute dungeon with service, but my wife's T989 works great, so it's my stupid phone not Tmobile.

How can I downgrade to 1.09? When I search it, I can only find for the One X/XL

If you're S-Off, you can flash radios on any hboot. If you want to change your hboot anyway, you can extract an image from a RUU or OTA and dd it into mmcblk0p12. (Be careful with that.)

I know you got it booted. But just to clarify:
Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see in the MIUI instructions where it says you don't need to flash boot.img seperately. It makes no mention of boot.img either way, which is not the same as it saying its not needed.
If you are hboot 1.14 or higher, and S-on, you should assume that you need to flash boot.img separately with fastboot, unless the instructions explicitly say otherwise.
AFAIK, ViperXL is the only current ROM that will flash boot.img in AROMA (plus older builds of CleanROM, but not the current CR6). Even with ViperXL, it doesn't work for everyone, and some folks have had to flash it from fastboot.

[Q] Evita Can't Boot ROMs

I have been working on my girlfriend's AT&T Evita for about 10 hours now and keep hitting a wall when I try to flash AOKP Milestone 1 or Cyanogenmod 10.
Here's my process:
Unlock Bootloader
Flash TWRP 2.5.0.0
TWRP Factory Reset
Flash AOKP
Flash GAPPs
Clear Cache
Power Off
Fastboot
Flash boot.img from the AOKP ZIP
Reboot
When I run through this process I get the X logo, but the animation just runs and runs, never goes anywhere. Basically the same result when I go through the same process with CM10, but with CM logo stuck just spinning. Only option when that happens is to relock the bootloader and RUU the phone.
S-ON
HBOOT 1.14.0002
RADIO 0.19as32.09.11_2
OpenDSP-v29.1.0.45.0622
RUU version 2.20.502.7 (not sure, will have to check when I get back home in an hour or so.)
Stock Android 4.0.4
Is there any additional information needed? Anyone have any ideas?
Download 2.3.3.1 Check md5
fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
select recovery
wipe cache, dalvik, system, factory reset
flash your rom
reboot to bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img (whereby boot.img is extracted from the rom you're flashing)
reboot
twrp 2.4+ has issues wiping.
If that doesn't work, some phones have issues booting newer cm roms unless they are on 2.14 hboot. To fix that you would have to s-off and then ruu up to 3.18 then flash recovery.

[Q] ATT htc one xl Suddenly gets stuck in boot loop after restarting phone

Hey Guys,
This is my first post, so excuse me if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about.
a few days ago i tried to connect to my wifi at home and it was not picking it up although i was inside my own house. so i thought i should restart my phone. well after trying to restart it it got stuck in a boot loop. it would load the htc screen then start loading the venom logo then it shuts off and reboots the htc screen. i tried installing the back up, re installing the latest venom rom and even trying to put on a entire new rom but nothing has worked(it wont even let me install a new rom it errors out when i try) i doubt you will even get this but its my last effort Ive spent the entire day and all night looking for some way to fix this but i have yet to find anything. please if anyone one has any know how about this i could really used the help. i rooted my att htc one xl(evita) about 7 months ago using the method from onexroot.com and have never had an issue with this phone till now.
when i try to install a new rom via twerp it said install failed, im really stuck with this and could use some help thanks in advance.

also since youre s-on you have to extract the boot.img from the rom zip and flash it with fastboot after flashing most roms. should not be the case with viper but i would do it anyway if vier doesn't boot after the above steps.

Try running an RUU. This fault (or at least a very similar fault) happened with my fiance's phone and now there's only one ROM that will boot on it (an old build of cm10.1). You may be facing a hardware fault (that's what's wrong my fiance's phone), but I'd suggest running an RUU to see if that helps.
Sent from my Evita
You might brick if you ruu, I would try flashing other roms first. Make sure to check the md5 to make sure that the download isn't corrupt.
But
If you must ruu make sure it isn't 3.18. And you will have to change your cid back and relock.
Fastboot oem writecid CWS__001
To change your cid back.
If you ruu, you cannot ever the the 3.18+ ota until you reroot and achieve s-off

Need for stock Rogers RUU or Recovery Zip

My HTC One X was bricked, and I need to restore it to Rogers Stock. However, I searched the entire XDA webstie + 50 pages on Google + 50 pages on other country's android site, I cant find any working download URL. Can someone please upload one RUU or Zip file for me, so I can restore my phone please?
If your phone is bricked an RUU isn't going to save it. Either way, you'll find all Evita RUUs here:

The phone actually is soft brick, all I need to do is to flash it back to stock rom, so I can do a S-Off
I have this problem because I attempted to flash cyanogenmod without getting S-Off, thus it end up with black screen boot loop.
Any idea to solve it? I cant find any recovery zip that is working
I wouldn't ruu without S-off. Do you have supercid? If you do, you may brick. Best to boot to bootloader then recovery then flash a sense rom then s-off

There's no such thing as a soft brick, a phone is either bricked or it isn't. Do as exad suggested and flash a Sense ROM then get s-off, then update your firmware (which is probably what was your actual problem).

THat is another problem, there is no CID showed on the bootloader screen.
This is all happen after I get bootloader unlocked, and attempted to flash clockworkmod. It end up with boot loop with black screen, cant get into any system
What I can do right now is
1. boot into TWRP
2. Copy anyfile into phone through TWRP
3. flash zip through TWRP, but I cant find any rom that is working for my phone
4. fastboot usb with any command

The CID doesn't show on your bootloader screen unless you have s-off. What are your bootloader details? What recovery do you have installed? You can check your CID with this fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid

The fact is you don't actually need s-off to flash cyanogenmod. You only need s-off to run the 3.18 RUU which updates your firmware, which you don't need to do because your firmware is fine. This brings me back to the other question you didn't answer: what recovery do you have installed?

I used the command
CID: BS_US001
My recovery is TWRP v2.6.3.0
THis is the only version that is working for me, I tried clockworkmod, and higher or lower version for TWRP, but I cant mount USB storage through any of those except 2.6.3.0
Recovery version please.

You just need to extract the boot.img from the rom you are flashing, put it in your adb/fastboot folder and then after flashing the rom.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then you will be able to boot it.
I suggest getting S-OFF using rumrunner so you don't need to take this step anymore. will also protect you in case you need to RUU.

I know what phone you have. an evita. Says so in your bootloader
You need unofficial 2.6.3 from original android dev. if you want to flash cm as you need SE Linux support.
Any sense rom should work on official twrp 2.6.3
make sure you wipe system cache and dalvik cache prior to flashing.
This is what you should do to rule out every issue.
Download unofficial 2.6.3
Check the Md5 of your download
put it in your fastboot folder
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery unnoficialrecoveryfilename.img
select recovery in bootloader
wipe cache, dalvik, system in wipe, advanced wipe
then do a factory reset for safe measure
flash your rom
wipe cache and dalvik
reboot to bootloader
extract the boot.img from the rom put it in your fastboot folder
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
