[Q] Why not Firefox OS? - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys. I was wondering, instead of only porting new Android versions to our Optimus One, why not continue the work for the Firefox OS port? I saw it stopped and the thread got closed (maybe lack of time).
At hardware level, it should run. Some B2G code seems to be adapted already for ARMv6. If not, there's a port from some months ago for the Geeksphone Zero that could work as a nice reference. I know it's not MSM7227, but it is similar.
I tried to work on it, but it seems that I don't have enough knowledge to do it yet. But if somebody starts to work with that, I'd be honored to test.

FirefoxOS source contains some Armv7 code which is very difficult to convert to Armv6

No one is going to port a ROM for the Nexus 5 to other devices. Maybe someone will build it for another device, but porting it is a waste of time if you have the ROM source to be able to build it anyways.
I think Xiaomi doesnt comply to GPL and doesnt release the source code thats why I asked if it is possible to port ROM from Nexus 5
Yes, it is possible. We have a "premature" Sense 6 port in which some things aren't working and are difficult to solve. But it is possible.

Android O custom rom

Will there be any Android O custom rom for Nexus 5 because some people said that Android O might not support 32bit device. I actually consider to buy Nexus 5 since it cheaper than 5X. If Android O only support 64bit device I might get Nexus 5X.

The source code of android 0 is not released yet so we do not yet know if there will be rom custom android O

I think it's better to save some more and get the Nexus 5X because Nexus 5 it's starting to become a legacy device
Why do people always jump on these developer previews and request them being ported to other devices? We're currently at the very first dev preview, this is not even a beta, and just about nothing is finalized right now.
We're going to see whether the Nexus 5 could be supported by third-party-ROMs when the source code for O drops. Until then, there's not really a point discussing it.
If you're looking for a cheap phone, I would consider getting a newer budget phone, like the Moto G5 /G5 Plus, or one of those cheaper Sony ones. You'll get better battery life, a much better camera and maybe even Android N/O, depending on the OEMs' willingness to update. Or just go with one of the Android One devices, if they're available in your market.
Unless you already own one, I don't see any benefit in getting a four-year-old phone.
If Google is testing Android Or for nexus 6, on got its code might be available. CNA we use it to port it to nexus 5??

We cannot. The hardware specs are completely different.

If they would publish an official build for the n6 and with it sources, but since it is internal testing they most likely wont.
I've heard the update schedule for the Moto Z Play is promising Android O updates later down the line and the device has a 32-bit processor. Of course I believe that there's clever devs on here that could make something special happen

The Snapdragon 625 is not a 64-bit CPU. The phone itself does run a 32-bit ROM, however.
Now can it be built?

"Your phone is not supported, You can't run the game."

Hello, I am kinda new here (was reading XDA and rooting for long but wasn't a member), so take me easy!
My problem is: there is a game called PUBGM (mobile version of PUBG), it is in chinese, the developers chose certain devices to test the game on (mostly mid-range devices)... I wanted to try the game on my J7 prime and S6 edge+, however, it says my devices isn't in the scope of the beta-supported devices.
My question is: can I change the devices names to the supported one and it will work? I tried using "device faker" which is an Xposed module, it changes the name it the setting; even samsung store says not supported device ( I changed to Xiaomi redmi 3)... but the game is still repeats its message.
Any suggestions?
Why ain't anyone replying?
I have same problem please help us..

Most likely you are not getting replies because most here don't use Chinese software and many avoid it like the plague.
If it is not for your device means that it will most likely not even run it so you are just wasting your time.
Thanks for replying, but you didn't really help.

I solved this, use Plex VPN and select Shanghai, work for me on redmi 5 plus

And by the way, does XDA dev/contributors say: "AOD (or any new exclusive feature) isn't for your device you are just wasting you time?" Just saying.

Thanks, but that also didn't answer my question.
Try this:
1)Root your device in one click with kingroot or any app you TRUST.
2)After rooting install .prop from play store(this app fakes the whole thing in a way that no app or game can know what actually you are running).
3)Grant root permission after opening the game.
4)Edit your device name with a supported one like pixel or any Google device.Edit your Android version to the latest one coz Google gets all the latest Android updates.
5)Save it.GET ON YOUR KNEES AND PRAY TO LORD"PLEASE GOD GIVE ME MY PUBGM".
6)Delete all cache data or clear data off the game. And launch it...
7)If everything goes fine you will be soon playing Pubg mobile.

Mi camera app has a lot of dependencies on miui system, won't run without it. You can hope for a port from mi a2, it's already working on oreo roms on sagit.
Also came here to ask this. Mi A2 seems like a good bet.
My Mi A2 should arrive next week so I will have both devices. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Try it and find out.
tested it might be possible but im getting this error thing it says /data/adb/magisk_merge.img mount failed so i cant install it.
Our Mi A2 arrived. My god, this is a great device. I forgot how much better Stock Android is than the abomination that is MIUI.
And the camera is fantastic - as good as my Mix 2s. It uses the same camera app as the Mix 2s, but the UI is slightly different. It looks the same but switching between photo / portrait / selfie works more intuitively. And the gallery thumbnail links to Google Photos.
If anyone can advise on how to extract the app I will happily have a go.

Do the following via ADB. Get the list of the packages available:
Code:
adb shell pm list packages
Get the path of the APK of the specified package name:
Code:
adb shell pm path com.example.package
Get the APK with the path returned from the previous command:
Code:
adb pull <path_returned>
Has anyone tried this:

Camera in the A2 is the same module as the Mix 2s I think.

It is not the same module, mix 2s has IMX363 + S5K3M3, the mi6x/miA2 has IMX486 + IMX376.

aw crap, not sure where I got the idea they were the same. Any idea what has the better specs? If the A2 camera can perform as well as or nearly as well as the 2s it looks like a great bargain.

Mix 2S has way better specs, it's a flagship after all. Mi A2 is a high-mid tier Android One phone. You can compare the specs along with average antutu score for both here: https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/xiaomi-mi-a2,xiaomi-mi-mix-2s
As someone who owns both, I can honestly say that the Mi A2 camera is really close. Like, I'm not sure I could tell the difference between the shots taken under the same conditions. In fact this weekend we were using both, and in a poorly lit environment, the A2 did a better job so we ended up using that one indoors. I guess it is a software difference perhaps.

[Mi MIX 3] MIUI 11 and Android 10

Hi, i think almost everyone here heard about the upcoming MIUI 11 update (rolling out from middle October in China). I'm pretty excited about that, but i have a question i cannot answer myself. Will the MIUI 11 come with the new OS Android 10 or will it come just as it is without OS update? I'm asking that because of two things:
1) I've read somewhere that Xiaomi already confirmed Android 10 for our device.
2) Instead the MIUI 11 Beta, avaible in China, is actually based on Android Pie
So...what are your toughts about that? Feel free to answer!

this is true for beta version, (mi-Globe / EUROM)
yes im already on MIUI 11, but it still based on Android 9 no doubt.
but the introduction of new features makes you want to use this ROM more and more (personal opinion)
system-wide dark mode still misses some notif/popup windows (its still on light)
AoD new styles are great, very artistic
they said MiShare is faster, cant feel it. but its not slow. i think it feels the same as V10
and the other features were there just before we hit MIUI 11. I guess this would benefit the stable users more.
its actually not a night and day change. you kinda appreciate those little adjustments. icons, stuff like that. not much for themes tho
its one of those regular updates that you want to jump into. and yea its kinda pretty cool.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I'm sure i'll like it too! Just hope they'll push Android 10 before Android 11 lol. I'm okay with Pie, it works good and has a HUGE amount of apps and will support them for long time for sure. On the other hand, this device in Global version was born with Pie so...would be nice to see at least one major update. I've heard somewhere that Xiaomi launched Mi MIX 3 with Oreo in China so basically Android 10 would be the last OS update even in EU/Global version because of some strange thinking about their update politics

what's good about with Pie is that, stereo speaker mod is still working, and maybe it wont work on 10. still enjoying the mod
For now i'm not planning to mod my device, when support will be dripped, then il'll explore again the modding world
You guys surely know already but last china beta (9.10.10) is miui 11 based on A10... Not that android version makes any significant difference for the end user but well, always nice to be en par with google I guess

This is so true. I've learnt the lesson with Honor 8. They wanted to kill the device but after a lot of time and people's petition they finally released oreo. Now i'm at the first experience with Xiaomi but as i've read around they're used to update frequently their devices. Don't know so much abouth their policies about updates though, so we can say i'm just hoping that the "Two major updates" rule will be followed

It usually gets to a point when a device is dead unless community keeps it alive. And that is awesome. I actually choose my devices partly attending to their development support. I still have my old hammerhead, 5 or 6 years on, and it is running nice pie roms and surely some 10's will come. Last google firmware is marshmallow. That is really cool
Still, of course it is good and nice that a newish devices keeps being updated by OM.
In my case, more than android version I wish xiaomi updated kernel source, but that is way too far fetched I'm afraid.
Right now I'm using MIUI 11 9.10.11 beta version and it's based on Android 10. I'm on the MIX 3 Android 10 close beta group and get updated everyday. This rom is quite stable and the only bug I found is the incorrect display of RAM which has no influence on my daily using. Magisk worked perfectly and I got 68HZ display so smooth XD.
