[Q] "Unable to locate zip file" when flashing - Asus Transformer TF700

I am very new to the ROM scene. I have just recently done my second flash on a Transformer TF700t and I am completely stuck.
I flashed and it ran perfectly smoothly the first time around, except for the fact that i flashed in the wrong order and was left without gapps. I recovered to the stock ROM and tried again, this time in the correct order. I got a message that surprised and stumped me.
"Unable to locate zip file '/storage/emulated/0/goomanager/pa_tf700t-3.15-16APR2013-002620.zip'"
Anyone have any fixes or suggestions on how to remedy this? I will be actively working to solve.
Thanks,
Neb

UPDATE:
I wanted to see if it was a program/rom causing the problem.
I tried ROMManager with Cyanogen and it did the exact same thing with a separate directory.
Anyone have any suggestions?

My apologies. I have been using twrp the entire time, and recovering off of that as well.

You forgot to tell us the version number of your recovery.
Try selecting your zip file manually with the recovery's "Install" command instead of using ROM Manager.

Are u saving it to an external SD card? If so Make sure its not formatted NTFS.

Thanks guys, been up for a couple hours now with a fresh mind and got it working.
I ended up just reinstalling a fresh stock JB and it seemed to download the OS fine.
Now I am running smooth and perfect on PA

[Q] ICS update failed. Manual Download?

I have been having issues applying updates to my Transformer TF101. During the update process, I receive a yellow exclaimation point symbol and the update fails. In the past I have downloaded the update and placed it on the SD card to install, but it does not seem to be posted yet. Does anyone know where I can get it, or does anyone know where the Transformer puts the OTA update file so maybe I can transfer it?
are you rooted or do you have a different recovery installed?
I am rooted, but I do not have a custom recovery... at least not that I'm aware of.
the same thing happened to me. I am rooted on stock recovery. Looks like I may be installing CMW soon huh..
Now I don't have the option to try to download it again either. strange.
I've tried to install the update a few times, but it fails at 25%. I dont have a rooted TF, just stock rom. Anyone else? And any ideas how to fix this?
Oh yeah: ive tried to reset it to factory defaults already.

Yeah, we are in the same boat. I have tried doing a factory restore and then doing the update and that fails as well. I am not sure why it is failing. See if the factory restore works for you.
If you ever changed something in system you need to revert back all the ota updates are checking every file by check sum , if one single file had the wrong check sum then you get the yellow triangle.

Okay, i fixed it. Here's what i did:
- Downloaded the latest stock rom from the ASUS website
- Copied the .zip file to a SD card
- Inserted the SD card, and my TF started installing the update
- After the update i was able to update to ICS
Has anyone else had any luck with this ^
I'm already on the most recent firmware, even tried this. still no luck.
I'm so confused!
yes works

I had been rooted stock and had to do the same thing. I lost root in the process. I likely could have prevented that maybe, not sure.

Anybody found a way to solve this? I still get the error after the android with turning gears appears. I'm stock. not rooted. I was once rooted but after the dec update I never rooted again. Any help would be appreciated

After you download the latest update from ASUS.
http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&s=16&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+TF101&os=32
You have to unzip the file you download to the sdcard and it should show up as a folder named "ASUS".
Put the sdcard back into the transformer and you should be prompted for an update found on the sdcard. Run that update and then you will be able to successfully run the ICS update.

I think someone posted that he factory restored and it dint take either. I dont know how to root this version / or install cmw
OK so my update did not take this evening. What I had to do was go to the Unlockr site and get the downloads .13 and the stock recovery. (Actually I already had them downloaded for this reason exactly). Booted into CWR and wiped data/factory reset, flashed US stock firmware. Rebooted. Booted back into recovery the manual way and flashed stock recovery. Booted back up and went to settings and updated firmware. Had to update 3 times. 4th was ICS. Then plugged in to computer and let drivers reinstall. Opened ViperMod (make sure USB debugging is on) ran exe file and once it came up used option 1 for tf201 (not option 3 like you would think). Then once it was rebooted I was rerooted and ready to go. OTA Rootkeeper did not work for me. Also my internal SD is still intact. Lost data but since rooted was able to restore via TBPro. I am actually typing this on the tablet and not my PC.
Edit:::Factory reset alone did not work for me. So I had to do the above method. Also from what I have read (all frigging day long) the CWR versions seem to have mounting issues, unless someone has made a patch.
Btw mine is US version.

[Q] Problems with most Roms

I am unlocked and have the recovery of twrp 2.3.3.0. I'm having problems with about every single rom I flash. I wipe everything as you are suppose to and the flash appears to go well but usually right away after the rom boots up the system becomes unresponsive. I have to hold my finger over a button for a couple seconds for it to acknowledge a touch and things just don"t run right.
Its like either the system is almost locked up or the touchscreen just hardly works.... one of the two. I made a backup of my original asus setup and if I restore it the tablet works just fine. I've tried hydro, cm 10.1, blackbean 7, and one or two I'm forgetting. AOKP RC1 is the only custom rom that gives me no problems at all in this regard, unfortunately its an unfinished rom, no camera and my battery dies like crazy with it...
The 2nd best running rom that I really like from what I have seen is blackbean 7. Runs great for first few minutes but after playing a game for a bit or doing some other things and having it run just great all the sudden the dreaded problem occurs and the only fix is a reboot for it to work for a while longer. So frustrated at this point as I have flashed so many roms and resetup so many things just to find myself doing it again trying to fix this and find a rom that works for me.
Any ideas at all on what could do this? Is the difference in the kernels the reason why AOKP RC1 and Asus original work but none of the others? Or does it have to do with my recovery? Fairly certain I have the correct most recommended one with twrp 2.3.3.0 and the process went fine. Any ideas greatly appreciated. I really just want to be able to run blackbean. And knowing that most all roms will not work for me is rather disturbing in regards to the future. Really wanting to like my new tf300t but its making it hard:silly:
Try to downgrade your recovery.
Use this : openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-tf300t-JB.blob
and take a feedback after, thanks
I really appreciate that you took the time to give me something to try but I'm afraid it didn't work. Process went fine I'm on 2.3.1.0 twrp but same problem. First rom I've tried instant non-responsive. Any other ideas?
I've been using ClockWorkMod Recovery on my TF300T, and it's been great. (Used it to upgrade my ROM to CM 10.1.) No issues at all.
If you need instructions for getting it installed on a TF300T, check out my second-to-last post on thoughtsontechnology.com. (NONE of the work is mine, I just compiled the instructions and links in one spot for easier access. Most of the work came from XDA contributors, they've been really great.)
Most roms need 5 to 10 mins to stabilize after a new install, usually as they are building media storage files, etc. Are you giving them enough time?
Failing that I can only think your microsd has something corrupt on it. Boot with it out.
Well I tried cwm again flashed it no problem installed rom no problem but no fix. So guess we have established it definitely isn't the recovery at this point...
Yes I've given roms several reboots and lots of suffering them working for 10min to only fail again for another reboot... So its not that. Still the only Rom that will work is my backup of the original asus and the AOKP RC1. Trying it without the external sdcard right now.
Well no joy on the removal of the external sdcard

Not sure what a full wipe is? I wipe cache/dalvik system format data and have even tried formatting the sdcard once several roms ago. One thing I have noticed since I am trying so many roms all the time is the sdcard file structure seems odd as I have at the root of the sdcard a 0 directory that continues to be added to. Currently it goes sdcard/0/0/0/0 to actually get to where I have things stored like music, downloads. Is this normal? Its strangely repetitive.
Personally I think you should stop using TWRP if you're having all these issues. Just flash CWM and have fun

This thread is a couple months old, but i am having the same problem. After installing a lot of different roms, both stock based and cm/AOKP. I let the rom stabilize and after a few hours or even minutes the touch screen has a mind of its own. It lags, double touches or fails to respond at all. I m on twrp 2.4.1.0. Was this issue ever resolved? Should I try old version recovery or cwm? I restored rooted stock us10.4.2.20 and the issue is gone. Is it possible that installing a rom changed the touch screen firmware? I am open to suggestions as I have spent alot of time on this with no luck. Thanks!
What version CWM would u suggest as this is probably my next move?

Sounds like you have a hardware fault if the issue persists across multiple firmwares.
Also, OP said his SD card directory structure was strange. I'd format both internal and external SD in recovery (in addition to wiping and factory reset) before you flash.
Thanks! Wiping internal has seemed to do the job. Still would like to know what the issue was. I was thinking it was the touch panel firmware, but thought that would be in /system

[Q] Help! Cant get back to stock rom! or any Rom!

I apologize in advance for being a noob, this is my first go at customizing ANYTHING android.
I got my Asus Transformer TF300T in January, had some hardware issues with it and exchanged it. I JUST got it back and decided to go custom before i got it all set up and then i would have to start over.
So I followed THIS guide and successfully installed Baked 7, Initially I used CWM as the guide told, but I could not get a boot image backup, so I used the same method and installed the most recent TWRP and it worked flawlessly.. I was unhappy with how the notification bar was at the top, I liked the stock where it was at the bottom. I could not find initial details on how to revert back to stock rom, so i decided to give some other custom roms a try. I was very interested in scottsmods CleanROM, but their website does not have the download anymore(that I could find) and thats where all the links in guides point to. So instead I installed CyanogenMod using THIS Guide. I immediatly noticed problems with this rom. It did not pick up my SD card, there was an error window that would pop up and go away before i could read it. It would not get on wifi.
I did further research into going back to stock, so I followed THIS guide its not directly XDA, but it followed the same style that i had learned previously(fastboot, etc) I did change to the support page of just the TF300T on the asus site, the guide links to the 3g one. I could not find my SKU in my device because the cyanogen rom changed the "Build" number. So I have tried each from the asus site and flashed them and would get stuck on the asus boot screen. I waited over an hour on each one before i decided it was frozen and to move to the next.
I didnt get any of the stock firmwares working. So I reflashed to TWRP, and attempted to go back to baked. I couldnt get the zip to install in twrp. but i was able to get cynogen to install again. It doesnt have the error window thing and the wifi works but still no SD.
I want to go back to stock, or baked if stocks not possible.
Stocks already been tried to the best of my ability, so i tired baked. Baked is on my external SD card, as in cynogen I cant access the internal one to move the files over.
Baked gives me an error saying unable to open zip file.
What am I missing? I cant seem to figure this out. Any and all help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
well, first off, you went from Baked 4.1 to cyo 4.2, now as i understand it . They moved the file system around in 4.2, and if you want to go back to 4.1 you have to wipe everything, I use TWRP 2.4.1.0 . Now I can understand not wanting to lose everything you've had set up.. Always do a back up before any major Flash. Just incase if your on a rom now thats decent save your files, perform a wipe, flash a rom , Clean rom in the xda threads is what im using.. Running great BTW. lemme know if it helped or didn't... lol Clean ROM Inheritance is a stock based rom. with an oc kernel which makes the tab perform like its supposed to. just be sure if you do decide to flash it you choose a kernel in the installer with T = Wifi, G=3G, 4G, etc. you want the T G

Is the 4.1 the same as 7? because 7 was the latest version available from team baked.
Edit: wait a sec... i think I understand. You mean baked 7 was 4.1 android and cyo was 4.2 android?
as far as data goes, i've already done all that. i did factory reset, wipe cache/wipe davik thing each time, no bueno. I have no data on the device as it was brand new outta the box. in TWRP, theres an option for wipe data, but factory reset says it wipes data and cache. should i still do the wipe data option instead of factory reset? so... wipe data/wipe cache/wipe davik instead of factory reset/wipe cache/wipe davik?
And also, I'm trying to flash a rom, back to baked from cyo because atleast baked worked. but it tells me its unable to open my zip files.
Do you have a link to the download of CleanROM? I've checked the official threads here and the download links take me to scottsroms.com and their download page only has the nexus10 and nexus 7 along with a bunch of phones.

So I managed to install cleanROM but its stuck on the boot screen now. its been sitting here spinnging for 20 minutes. the link you gave me says to let it stabilize for around 10 minutes. is it spinning the stabilizing part? should i let it keep going?
I used the TF300 kernel and the 160 thing as specified in the guide. everything else default with the exception of adding the go launcher HD and hacked hulu plus apps....
I did a format data(which wiped my internal sd and the zip file i was installing from so i had to reload to cya and recopy the zip to my internal sd card. i did factory reset and wiped cach/dalvik prior to installing. then after install i wiped cache/dalvik again as the guide said.

OK! so I got my tablet working with cleanROM at last!!!
I figured out why the zip files werent opening. for some reason my tab was only able to install from zips DIRECTLY on the internal sd card. whenever it tried one from the external sd card, despite being mounted, it was always unable to open the zip and would fail.
CleanROM got stuck initially because i used the WW version instead of the US version. Once i reflashed with the US version it worked great! had an issue with the start wizard crashing, but that went away after it stabilized. I stared customizing and playing and had no issues other than the SD card notification. That was an option i didnt choose to patch because i didnt know prior how annoying that notification was. it wouldnt get out of my notification window! so I flashed again, with that option enabled so that the sd card didnt bug me in the notification window.
I just got it back up and running, after the second flash with that modification added, and other than the start wizard still crashing(again, i let it sit a while and now it worked) it seems to be working great!
I hope my experiences can help newbies in the future that may have similar issues!

So.. which kernel did you choose? You should download the 2.0 kernel installer on the same thread, and choose the Unters tf300tG because you have 3g.. you will find your tablet runs ALOT smoother and faster than stock, but you need to flash the stock kernel first. Its a good way to do kernel flashes.

I actually dont have 3G. mine is just a TF300T wifi only. Unless its the software that makes it 3G? But i dont think thats the case...
Would that alternate kernel give any other benefits other than 3G support?
Oh yea. Youll see a dramatic change in performance to say the least. Now. Im running a tf 700 kernel. But I would recommend you yo get the Unters TF300t kernel in the 2.0 Kernel Installer. Put the Installer zip on internal. Flash. Choose your kernel. Wipe cache and dalvik . Then reboot. You will not regret it.

[Q] Need Help!...Hope this isn't a brick...

I finally got the tf700t rooted/unlocked and thought everything was working well. I downloaded a ROM from GooManager and started to see what difference it would make on the tablet. For a few hours it seemed to be working fine. Then I noticed the screen was black and would not come back on. I then did a cold boot and that's when the tablet started power cycling. Please tell me this can be fixed. When I tried to restore the TWRP backup file it said "Restore Failed", and went back to power cycling/resetting. Have I bricked it?

It is more likely that you have a bootloop.. As long as your bootloader is working, you can do a lot of things that can bring your tablet back..
Also sounds like /data is corrupted.
Choose the wipe button in twrp and then format data.
Be warned you will lose everything on the tab but it will get you booting again.
Which kernel combination did you flash on CROMi-X 5?

I didn't use CROMi-X. I downloaded a ROM from GooManager. How can I get CROMi-X and should I no longer use GooManager? I took your advice however and everything worked out well- thanks for that. Error while backing up

Hi all,
I have looked all thought the forum and the closest thing I found to an answer was try twrp. What I have is an tf300t running 4.1.1 with stock rom, and cmw 6.0.2.3. Every time I try and create a back up I get "error while backing up boot image". I have tried backing up to external sd, internal, and even tried different SD cards. Nothing seems to be working. Has anyone else had this problem? Or any idea what it might be?
Thanks

Well, "Try TWRP" is indeed the right answer.
I think CWM uses the stock CM kernel and that does not expose the boot partition as a device. So CWM can neither read nor write the boot partition and an error is what you get trying to back it up.
