wifi tether app working with mf3 ota post root. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

Hi Guys,
I just rooted my phone using this OP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387577
If you use this method to root make sure to thank the creator!
Next, a bunch of apps on the playstore for wifi tether have not been workings and it was driving me nuts, but the "Wifi Tether Router" from the Playstore by Fabio Grasso worked like a charm!

Question on this tethering for rooted devices. Is your cell phone carrier able to know whether you're tether without there tethering plan..does this like hide data usage...reason I asked is because I have the unlimited data for AT&T n don't want it changed I'd they suddenly see an outstanding amount of data being used

I use es file explorer non-rooted mf3 when it says “please wait verifying" just hit the home button it'll also say mobile hotspot not available for this network but it still works. I'm on a grandfathered plan that has unlimited data and 20% discount.

my suggestion to this would be that use it in moderation. i would not go all out tether on you unlimited plan. because in excess, att will find out. i dont know of any app that works to mask your tethering. foxfi or pdanet claimed to do this, but i think that all show.

I've heard it said that pdanet wifi tethering hides terther usage to some extent - clearly it doesn't judging by browser/OS identifier -

Thank you!

I've been frustrated for weeks over this. Been trying to avoid rooting my S4 until they sorted everything out with mf3. I've tried the E'S tether and never realized it was working all along.

Download ES FILE EXPLORER. When you open up the app
click the world/phone icon
Scroll down and click net manager.
Then click create a hotspot network when you click that press the home button immediately after. It will say something like a network connection is not able or something if you don't have tethering but it works.

Thanks so much! This is the only reason I ever wanted to root a phone was for the wifi hot spot which is disabled by at&t even though the data comes form the same bucket.

Use it moderately Idk if they catch it or not but I don't really use tethering much so they haven't said anything to me.

Es file Explorer didn't work for me but I dwnlded usb wifi tether pro from the play store and when you turn it on I immediately hit the power button to sleep the phone and the tether works as soon as you unlock the phone again the msg from AT&T pops ups saying to call 611 blah blah and it shuts the tether off but like I said if you immediately sleep the phone it works like a charm

im using mdob rom with ss. installed the tether add on and works with no problems. it doesnt even do the att check. just turn on and done. quick and painless.

That method was to root for MF3 build but it no longer works for the OTA of MK2, however VROOT does work and had no problems w/ my s4 i337.

Here's a better, safe method for rooting MK2.
And here's a non-app method of getting stock tethering to work (though it requires a root explorer like ES File Explorer anyway lol).

I couldn't get the OP method to work on my MK2. Your stock tethering link worked perfectly on my MK2! TYVM for the link! *I used the MJ7 method to root my MK2 and was successful.*

I don't think so, but I am going to try and work with the developers to get it working. They helped do the same for the Captivate and Vibrant.
It opens and starts but I can't see the access point.
It's entirely possible that I'm posessed and having this effect on the phones, but Wireless Tether works for me on a Captivate and Epic with root only.

which version and where did you download? As an access point? Have you actually been able to connect and use internet?
remounted my system as r/w
downloaded SuperUser by ChainsDD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
Menu >> check for newer SU >> yes install
Downloaded and installed this wifi-tether: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi..._tether_2_0_5-pre8.apk&can=2&q=Samsung+Galaxy
I also have busybox installed.
wifi tether shows up as an Adhoc, but not as an access point....
Download is good but upload seems like plain EVDO and not RevA.
Tried the latest from Wifi Tether and it seems to work but only in ad-hoc mode. And it is kind of slow..

VERY slow is more like it.
After trying the latest wifi-tether, it appears to have broken my wifi. I cannot connect to my wifi network, even though wifi is turned on. AHHHH
EDIT: OMG I think I actually seriously broke my wifi. I have root enabled using the 1-click method described in the other thread. I installed busy box w/ Titanium Backup, and the latest wifi tether. I pressed tether once to try it and then disabled it. Now my WIFI DOESNT WORKKKK. It sees my wifi but when I connect... it won't connect, it just shows it's available again.

Use native tethering - all third-party tethering uses adhoc mode which doesn't play nice with a lot of devices.
You may need to freeze/uninstall TetheringManager2.apk - I forget if this was needed on Infuse. It was needed on the I777.
FoxFi is free on Android Market. I was using it for wifi tethering, until I realized it is just using the native tether feature in settings. It's a good app, though, and not just adhoc like the others.
For native tethering in uclb3, I now just go to settings / wireless and network / tethering and portable hotspot / mobile AP settings.
Delete the tethering manager apk in /system/app, or freeze it using Titanium Backup. I don't think native tethering works without doing that, and that apk is the quickest, and easiest way for at&t to pick up on tether usage (in case you aren't paying for a tethering plan).

If there was no tethering manager then it was probably already deleted in whatever rom you are running.
Do this..
Settings>Wireless> Tethering and Portable Hot Spot (or something like that... on ICS... can't remember exactly for gb. Then you pretty much just start tethering. And remember, if you are not on a plan then you risk getting caught.. so don't do it too much or it will be taking away.
Good luck.

Verizon SG3 - Wifi Tether apk

what app are you using? i used to use Wugfresh on my droidx.
I just posted in the General form about this. My recommendation is to use a 3rd party app such as Wifi Widget, that will turn on the built in wifi tethering app without checking for account status. Verizon might change this in the future but it is work much better for me than 3rd party wifi tether apps.
Has anyone seen a way to enable tethering via Bluetooth (bypassing the check for subscription)?
When I'm out and about I like to have my tablet connected to my phone over bluetooth. However, with my new S3 it asks me to subscribe to a tethering plan when I try checking the box to share my phones internet connection over bluetooth.
I'm stock, rooted and on a Verizon capped data plan (not the share everything plan)
Anyone?

bond32, thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I don't really like the Fattin widgets icon. Tethering Widget also seems to work and I like it's 1x1 icon better. I had forgotten that I was using it on my Samsung Fascinate running CM10 while my SGS3 was getting fixed.

[Q] How to tether without extra charges or root?

Hello All. I've searched the forum and have seen many threads about tethering, but I can't find the answer to my specific question...or maybe I'm blind and am just missing it, in which case, I apologize for posting something that has already been answered.
Anyway, I want to tether with my verizon S3 but of course I don't want to pay extra for data I pay for already, nor do I want to root my device, at least not yet. I've heard many things that verizon can't charge for tethering if you have a tiered plan, but when I try to use the built in mobile hotspot it says I am not subscribed and to call verizon. Am I missing something? Didn't there used to be a built in wifi tethering functionality into android?
More specifically, I want to tether my Nexus 10.
Have you tried clockworkmod tether? Never used it but he does great work and it doesn't require root.

I'd prefer to not root my phone right now. Also, I used to use FoxFi on my Bionic, yes I owned one of those, and it worked great. So I tried it on the S3 (no root) and I couldn't get the Nexus 10 to find the tethered wifi network I set up.
neither require root. clockwork does require to install a program on your comp, might not work for you. check out foxfi.

Yeah problem with CWM tether is that I don't want it for the computer...want it for the Nexus 10 tablet. And FoxFi's network it creates can't be found by the Nexus 10 for some reason.
Yea Foxfi is no root need bro. Just keep playing with it I have had to mess around a few times with settings but always got it. I my first recommendation is keep security off for your first connection then after you connect try it with security.
I use it on my phone and my wife uses it on here locked down tiger than the Whitehouse razor.

Wireless Tether for Root Users

I have this on my Photon Q, and for some reason, some days it works fine, and stays connected, and other days my computer will connect to the wifi tethering of my phone, then after about 1 min it will disconnect. Its not my computer, it is the phone, the phone stops broadcasting with the tethering app.
Does anyonw know a fix for this? Yesterday i stayed connected without issue, but the day before, I fought with it all day long trying to keep it connected. I either have to restart wifi tether, or sometimes I actually have to restart the phone.
I know this i an issue with the phone, but I wonder if some setting in my computer is making the phone disconnect?
Also, if anyone has any better tethering apps, please let me know.
Have you tried an app like "KeepConnOn"?
No I will check into that thank you
I use trev e mod. So far works flawless.

I did not come up with mod. So I'm not taking credit for it. All I know is that it's somewhere on xda. A buddy of mine sent me the apks. Sprint has blocked almost all the tethering apps from market.

ah yeah, i've seen treve around before. he created some apps to identify and disable logging added in by the carriers, etc. thanks for the tip, PdaNet works well for usb tethering, but it's nice to have a wifi option too.
