That does work with the LG Spectrum VS930 and the guys over at DroidForums.net have made a new kernel that bypasses all the secure boot problems we have been having with this phone. I flashed the kernel on my VS930 about a week ago and I havent had any problems yet.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/lg...ki-8-9-13-broken-out-modded-stock-kernel.html

So after flash all the remaining bloatware can be removed?

[Kernel][Loki][8-9-13]Broken Out Modded Stock Kernel
Hello all! Here it is Broken Out Modded Kernel for the LG Spectrum 2!!! A big huge thank you needs to be given to djrbliss for finding and creating a workaround for the locked bootloader!!! Now we finally have control of OUR devices!!!!!
What is this?
This is the stock kernel that has been modified using Loki (created by djrbliss) to bypass the boot loader. It has also been modified to not throw the security error when removing the videos.apk.
Changelog
v 1.0
Lokified
Enabled full root
Removed and modified files that send security error
How do I install this?
1.) Download the .zip
2.) Place zip on sdcard
3.) Reboot into 2nd Init Recovery
4.) Back up
5.) Go to install zip from sdcard
6.) Select BrokenOutModdedKernel.zip
7.) Reboot!
Technical Info
This replaces your boot.img which includes the kernel. It has been modified to bypass the locked boot loader. Djrbliss created Loki to do this. I have patched the stock boot.img using Loki and have modified the files that send the security error. This does void your warranty. I did not make you install it. I did not brick your phone. I am not responsible for any mistakes that you have made.

Special Thanks!!!
djrbliss for finding a way around the bootloader

Have you tried using the wipe cache option with this recovery? When I did it wiped my phone clean.

Wipe cache? No I didn't. But if you try booting into recovery before installing recovery, it will reset your phone.

I had recovery installed and used it to wipe cache and dalvik a couple...both times it wiped the phone clean. It will flash a zip fine, just wipes more than cache.

Well you only do wipes when installing NEW Roms so never do wipe unless new ROM installation calls for it.
I used it to backup current data and flash unlocked Kernel so I could remove even more bloatware.

You should be able to wipe cache only without issues

Somebody must have done something right for a change...
So, I've had this Spec2 for a while, rooted with motochopper on 21B and LTE_Final on 22A, both seem to work just fine.
I've done the 'delete the wrong bloat' thing and bricked it a few times, always had to start over, flash with KP500 and put all of my stuff back on.
BUT this latest update, 22A, I like it a lot because it seems to work the way an UPDATE should work, i.e.: I've flashed the update deleted the wrong stuff again, got the security error and had to reflash it... again... except THIS TIME, ALL OF MY STUFF CAME BACK !! COOL.
I don't remember this happening with any of my other re-flashes.
It's seems to work like a windows repair, goes in and fixes the broken stuff and leaves everything else there and intact, except root of course, you have to do that again.
I've just recently installed the 2nd-init and did a backup there, flashed the brokenoutkernelmod and all seems well. So I guess it's time to start deleting more bloatware and see what happens.
I feel better now, knowing that I have 2 options to get all of my stuff re-installed in 15 mins. or less, re-flashing 22A or 2nd-init restore
22A seems smoother than 21B, but my battery life SUCKS at the moment.
Hoping that trashing all the bloat will fix that....

TWRP from CWM???

Was gonna give TWRP recovery a try... I am currently using CWM and didn't know if it would be safe to just use the goo app and flash TWRP that way. I have always used CWM and wanted to try something new and just want to be safe when going about it.

Yes you can install TWRP any way you like. One recovery will simply overwrite the other. Nothing to worry about.
My only brick
The one time i ever truly bricked a phone after close to 30 times rooting and unlocking boot loaders was with TWRP and this phone. I am talkin complete brick, like qualcom drivers request show up on windows brick, the kind brick that you just throw at a window, because you got no charging light, no vibration, no light what so ever.
Btw i was only flashing a rom
I never touched TWRP after .
Thanks for the input guys..... Gonna stick with CWM for now. Seen a fair amount of negative stuff towards TWRP in the forums and don't want to risk anything.

Seconded.
Used the gooapp to flash twrp and haven't had any problems. In fact I switched over from cwm because while installing liquidsmooth cwm kept giving me error 7. Everything I googled told me it was a problem with my recovery, so switched to twrp and presto
Although watch which version of twrp because I was reading the Cleanrom lite thread and ppl were having issues with the latest twrp at the time of their postings. It was around end of September that they were saying this, I believe.

I used to use cwm and now have been using twrp and have never had a problem. This guy above you can't blame twrp for your brick you don't know if that's what it was. Twrp I like better cause I can move my backup folder and copy it even to another computer. Cwm has the blob folder which you can't see which files belong to which backup so you can't just move one backup you have do do them all

Don't know what you were looking out but CWM is the one where the wipes/format are on different pages. All wipe options in TWRP are on the wipe page right next to each other. Newest version now released.

[Q] Unroot Verizon Galaxy S3

Hello all,
I recently rooted my Galaxy S3 only to have my Mic fail on me 2 weeks later... Very dissatisfied with my Samsung about that - even though I am loving the phone. Anyways, back to the issue. Verizon has agreed to send me a replacement and I have to send them mine back. The problem is that I know that if I send them a rooted phone they will not honor the warranty, and I am having a very hard time flashing the Verizon Stock rom.
More specifically, and to see if I am doing anything wrong.. I used ODIN to flash a custom rooted rom onto my phone which worked perfectly, and now I am once again trying to use ODIN in order to flash the stock rom which I downloaded from goo.im - the file that I am using is HOME_I535VRALF2_I535VZWALF2_618049_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Simple steps - reboot into downloading mode -> check auto-reboot and reset time on ODIN and choose the file above under PDA. All works fine, the phone reboots and I get a PASS, and yet my phone is stuck on the Verizon 4G loading intro. I think that's what they call a soft brick.
The first time this happened, I flashed a different rom and the phone loaded properly but it had the open lock symbol under Samsung which I think means that it was unlocked.. Either way, it was not the unrooted and official stock rom which is what I need on my phone in order to keep my warranty. The file that DOES work is COMBINATION_I535VRBLJ1_I535VZWBLJ1_381038_REV09_user_low_ship(NO_WIPE).tar.md5
I have followed the above steps over and over again and I always get the same result - stock doesn't work, the other one does.
Any ideas? What could the issue be?

Personally I would try the files found in section 5 of this thread.
According to Droidstyles guide before his recent edits, if it freezes on the boot logo after a successful Odin factory flash then you're supposed to pull the battery, boot into recovery, and do a factory reset. Try that.

Yes this works, also had this happen to me, and to boot to recovery just hold home+volume up+power button. It should work.

You should probably factory reset after flashing, for you don't want to be running a buggy phone.

Use a full wipe version and this would not happen...part of the reason why i removed nowipe versions such as f2. But yes as slimsnoop said, data wipe /factory reset will fix that.

Follow section 5 of Droidstyle's (the guy above you) guide. Click the link in his signature. I'm not sure about how this handles modified network configuration though, that's not something I remotely know anything about.
I thought there was a way to bypass the activation screen? On older phones, you could tap the four corners of the screen or something like that? Anyone ever heard that before?

[Q] Flashing bricks my S3

I have a SCH-I535, rooted and unlocked. It's running VRBLK3 for what ever that's worth?
When I flash a ROM (and I've tried several) I always get a soft brick and I have to go through the unbricking procedure given here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030 followed by re-rooting and then going through the setup all over again as, for some reason, my backups are gone????
I'm brand new to the S3 as you can tell but why do other ROMs brick my phone and why are my backup(s) deleted and what do I do to fix this?
because your not unlocking the bootloader on your device...that's why custom roms are causing the softbrick. There are plenty of guides floating around, check out the sticky roll up thread in the dev section.
I agree with droidstyle, it sounds like you need to unlock the bootloader. This can be done with a flashable .zip in recovery or using the EZ VZW Unlock app from Google Play. Use Search.
Also, you said your backups were gone. When you flash the stock image in Odin (your un-brick method), this clears the entire internal memory. Set your backups to an SD card.
Actually he needs ezunlock version 1.2 from rootzwiki. Last I heard the play store one want writing right

So on Samsung you can put on a custom recovery before unlocking bootloader ? Cuz I noticed you said he could unlock bootloader with a flashable zip from recovery, which you'd need a custom recovery for.
Just sounds weird to me, Cuz on HTC, you have to unlock bootloader before you can apply a custom recovery.
Anyhow, your post made me curious.
Thanks

The bootloader is unlocked, I thought I'd said that in my OP, sorry if I wasn't clear.
I do appreciate the thought of backing up to the SD card, I did that for my last backup so you guys have fixed one of my problems. Thanks!
I'll try the EZ Unlock from Rootzwiki but I think the current one works. There IS a bug, from their website:
"v1.4 hotfix for last issue. Bootloader checking is disabled for the time being, so all you will see is UNKNOWN for the status. Fret not, as unlocking and relocking are still working. Sorry about all this, will rectify ASAP. I recommend using 1.2 from the Rootzwiki linked thread in the description."
I'll get the Rootzwiki one.

The bootloader was the problem, I got the older version of EZ unlock and had no problem with flashing a different ROM so apparently the PlayStore version just doesn't do the job????
Thanks to everyone who chimed in!
BTW, it turned out to be an exercise in futility, after flashing a different ROM I looked at it, decided NAH and restored my backup!
But at least I know I can do it now, thanks again!
Glad that worked out!

bricked my phone
So I am pretty new to the community and have only rooted my phone for use of ARliberator. I recently took the MD3 OTA and the signal was crap, now I get the new update this am MF3 and it bricked my phone with the message "system software not authorized by vzw take to store" blah blah. I tried this using voodoo root keeper with out un-rooting first.
Guessing my only option is to flash back in odin mode or is there some recovery that I can try? I have everything backed up with titanium pro. how would I reload all of that after I flash?

How small ? The previous update that they pulled was just under 130mb as I recall. This one should be very close to the same size unless it's a firmware update only and the "premium suite" will come later.

ODIN back to stock OEM , then take all the updates before rooting again. Make a full backup in recovery before using Titanium Backup to restore. Restoring Apps + data with TB can cause issues.

So after trying about 5 times my phone booted back up and is working. The update did not go through but my phone is working as it was before. I dont know why the recovery wouldnt boot at first unless it was the update blocking it for a few minutes.
Might have made the rookie mistake since I didnt do the temp un-root with voodoo, but I was trying to be innovative and see if it worked with out it like it did with the MD3 OTA.

I tried just temp unrooting with voodokeeper, downloading and installing the update, and it worked and the phone loaded up phone and I was able to turn root back on with Voodkeeper no problem. I have two S3s, one is a mistake I made in getting a phone for a now ex that was supposed to pay their share of the bill, etc and didn't and I took the phone back. That's the one I experiment stuff with and tried it there with no problems. I'm afraid to do it without ODINing etc though on the phone I always use. The ex's phone never seems to have any problems with updates and re-rooting though.

Glad to hear that method worked for you. I just tried it again and I get to right after it shuts off and get past the Samsung screen with RECOVERY in the top left in blue, to the yellow triangle saying "you have unauthorized VZW software...turn off device and take to store..." with SECURE:KERNEL in red in the top left...i think thats what it says.

[Accidental] OTA update and re-root with no factory reset. {i497} 10.1

Tried to OTA and keep root and not factory reset(had to re-root and install recovery but no factory reset!) and went through a interesting process and thought maybe someone could improve on it to save time and keep apps and data.. Ok so I decided to update my tab via ota and try and save root and recovery(currently using CWM). I got voodoo ota rootkeeper and I backed up superSU, then did temp un-root, backed up apps and data through titanium backup, well sorry backed up then temp un rooted with voodoo, did all my other backing up and started download of 4.1.2 update, tablet did normal download and shut off and went to Android screen, loaded some then went to CWM automatically and asked i wanted to flash un-trusted zip, to say the least I was nervous but ok'd it and it loaded and then poped up again in CWM after it finished flashing zip and said ROM may flash stock recovery on boot but this can be undone! ! I was reluctant once again but I ok'd it and WALLA it rebooted normally with new 4.1.2 except it said update failed or interrupted I closed that screen opened voodoo rootkeeper restored rood and again WALLA root. I haven't tried to reboot to recovery yet but root seems fine and tablet is same as before update, exact same as if nothing ever happened. Need input because I'm not a developer just a flashaholic!

Ok flashed TWRP recovery and superSU and busybox from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43045886 using Odin 1.85 unchecking F.Reset Time. Works fine and and never had to factory reset during update process. All of this was done by just trying I guess, don't know if or how close I was to bricking so any info would be great. Just thought this whole process was interesting. Thanks goes to all the hardworking developers.

Yes. I already reported this thread so a mod can remove it.
Also instead of making double triple quadruple posts just use the edit button!
I already posted a howto how to upgrade and root the i495 earlyer this week
Its way less complicated then this whole story
But its in the galaxy tab 2 forums where it belongs

Less complicated yes but I didn't have to factory reset either, and the OTA went through without having to un-root, Odin and Kies factory reset and sometimes OTA will not go through when rooted so I figured it was worth a look! Sorry for wrong forum! And thanks focussoft for instructions and links!
