Hi, wanting to update Xperia J to latest jelly bean official by Sony. Haven't rooted or unlocked bootloader phone says latest software updates already installed but I'm running Android 4.0.4. Tried PC Companion still says its latest when it isn't. Not wanting to use Sony update service as it will wipe all my photos and data. Don't want to go through all the hassle of backing up and restoring. Not wanting to root either. Please can someone help.
The only other way is flashtool but a data wipe would be highly recommended. or just stick with ICS

Hi I'm having trouble with my Xperia Mini Pro (SK17i) which I rooted.
I'm pretty good with computers and work in IT, but this is beyond me, so sorry for being a noob. I didn't fully understand rooting, but went ahead and did it, successfully.
Then an update came along (4.0.2.A.0.58) and I was stuck with a constant notification about it. I attempted to "unroot" my phone, this didn't do much, so I used the same software to root it again. Now the data connection won't work at all, and no symbol appears on the notification bar (2G/3G etc).
So I'm stuck with a phone I can't update and has no data connection!
Ideally I'd like to get it back to "stock" ROM? Firmware? not sure what the correct terminology is. Then I can install the Official Update as normal.
Phone: Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro
Model: SK17i (UK model)
Android Version out of box: 2.3.3
Android Version now: 2.3.3
Baseband version: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-20302204-36
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Build number: 4.0.A.2.368
I've tried using SE Update Service, says "modified software can't be updated" and the repair function is the same
I've tried to follow guides, but nothing works or they aren't phone specific
I've reset the phone to factory settings, it didn't correct the data problem
Please help, I don't need a guide to rooting, just some simple instructions on how reverse my actions.
Thanks!
Try to wipe your phone it should help but you loose all your data !
Thanks, but how do I wipe the phone?
I've already lost all the data when I reset it to factory settings. To make matters worse, I can't restore my "contacts" because it requires data connection with Orange UK.
Oh you have wiped already wipe = factory reset i read over that.
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/ use this software to flash the old stock rom
using flashtool and this rom https: //rapidshare.c om/files/2345646...1251-0103_.ftf (remove spaces) i managed to get it on 2.3.4 with data working!! so thanks!
one small problem, that rom isn't set up correctly for the keyboard (not sure if being in the UK makes a difference) so trying to "repair" software now with SEUS
if anyone can locate 2.3.4 UK xperia mini pro firmware please let me know!
Hi everyone
My Xperia J brought Android 4.0.4 with 11.0.A.7.8 . "Bootloader unlock allowed: No" and locked to Vodafone PT.
I rooted with success. I do not need to unlock the bootloader, rooted is enough (titanium backup and uninstall some operator garbage).
Update center is requesting autorization to install 11.2.A.0.21 . After a fast googlification i read about complains with 4.1.2 on Xperia J.
There is any satisfied/not satisfied owner os this smartphone and 4.1.2? It is easy to root 4.1.2?
Many thanks and a cold beer : )

Yes, my phone is faster with Jelly Bean than with ICS.
I rooted 4.1.2 following this steps :
1- I was in 11.0.A.7.8 branded Vodafone;
2- Flashed 11.0.A.7.5 CE (unbranded) with flastool without wipping data;
3- Rooted with UnlockRoot;
4- Update over the air to 11.2.A.0.21;
5- Reinstalled Superuser from the Play Store.

Well I can tell you that Jelly Bean ( the 11.2.A.0.21 ) is actually better. The lag is almost gone( not completely gone, the J seems to lag but when that does just lock the screen and wait for a few moments- 1-2 mins max- and then the lag will go away). The main issue with the ICS version is that the lagg appears and you have to restart the J in order to get rid if it. With Jelly Bean the lagg goes away easier. Games also work nicely with Jelly Bean ( I've tried Subway surfer with ICS and it lagged when the surfer dude started to run fast but now with Jelly Bean that problem is almost gone... the lag goes away very fast).
The main issue that I have with the new update is the free RAM. Right now I can only sustain about 90mb of free Ram as with the ICS I had about 140-120mb free, sometimes even 170. So that is the biggest problem for me .
As for rooting the previous post works just fine if you have OTA update. But since PC companion tells you about the new update I guess you have OTA update.
So from my experience Jelly Bean does work a little smother then ICS and the lag( even though the lag appears somewhat faster than with ICS, it goes away a lot faster).
I would recommend you to upgrade to Jelly Bean.

Unfortunately no. That is if you would like to flash Custom ROM's.
If you want to flash a stock Rom you will be able to ( for example I flashed Jelly Bean on to my Xperia J and I have a locked bootloader).
If you want to flash a custom Rom ( let's take for instance CynamogenMod ) you won't be able to because that requires you to also flash a special Kernel and that can not be done with a locked bootloader.
I'm in the exact situation that you are... locked bootloader and impossible to unlock....
Soooo ... rooted mobile with unlockroot pro (free) , them updated OTA to 4.12 and the root survived muuuhahahahahaha
Many thanks to all who helped me. free cold beer
I clean up all those useless aplications (sony and Vdf) and i'm 100% satisfied, i do not need to change ROM. Maybe in the future i'll need to do that trick to enable Link2SD to mode applications to memory card instead of internal storage.
Got a notification from PC companion that there's a new update available. Not available over OTA though. I doesn't say what it's updating either. Does anyone know? Xperia Z3 D6603 in Sweden. I got prerooted .77 and on Sonys website they say it's the latest.
Start the update process on pc companion and it will tell you what version it will install before doing anything at all
Hi xda developers, I'm a new z3 user (D6633) running lollipop 5.1.1 , and I want to root my z3 to use titanium Backup,
1) I'm afraid that if I root my z3, I won't be able to update to marshmallow when it arrives, I also read somewhere that I still can update but will lose drm (I don't know what that is )
2) is there a way to unroot, to install the official update ?
Please explain in details and provide links if you could, cus I'm totally new on Sony
Any advice is appreciated
Im sure there will be a pre-rooted stock ROM for dl as soon after M. hits. Depends if one need to flash other things as well like firmware etc. but these things are included in the same FTF. I have gone through a few Android versions and things usually works out fine in a short matter of time.
If you absolutely want to go full stock, just flash a stock FTF from http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/ftf-stock-firmwares-xperia-z3-models-t2886061
Using Flashtool.
I'm in Vietnam and bought a Sony XZ, Model Number F8332, on Android 7.0, Baseband 8996-8996.genprodQ-00040-19.
Kernal version; 3.18.31-v01, [email protected]@(hastag)1. Build number RomAur v4.3.
My questions are,
1, can I revert it back to it's original software?( are any warrantys affected?)
2, when I connect it to my laptop and sync to sony's Xperia Companion software, it asks to update to new software, can I go ahead and update or will it mess up?
Anything more than some basic instructions would be way over my head.
Thanks for any help.
You can flash Stock Rom with Flashtool. If you search here, you will find more than enough informations
Your warranty is now gone.
Also, unless you have the TA backup from that specific device you will not be able to restore the TA and therefore you will lose functionality of camera and other DRM issues.
The best advice is to stay on the ROM you have or flash other custom ROMs that enable you to use the DRM fix. This is not possible on a stock ROM.
Also, since the bootloader has been unlocked you will not be able to update OTA or use xperia companion software.
