ok i can reproduce this on multiple roms on multiple phones,
symptoms: when you press the unlock button on your screen it flashes whatever you had on your screen prior to you locking it
how to reproduce
step 1: open up any app
2: lock the screen with the physical button
3 unlock the screen with the same button and it will flash the last thing you had open prior to locking it, then show the actual lock screen
4 without unlocking the screen, turn the screen off by pressing the lock button
5 unlock it again, this time because the last thing that was on the screen was the lock screen itself, it wont flash the apps screen, and the lock screen actually performs faster due to this.
ok, so here is my point, if there was a script the told the system to display the lock screen before turning the screen off and lock it, the wake up time would be significantly decreased. any thoughts or input?
what roms have you seen this on?
im on mosaic and cannot reproduce that. its the lockscreen as soon as i press the button.
on the captivate, stock, cm7, serendipidy, and andromeda,
on htc inspire, stock and rcmix3d, cm7
and it does it on nook color running cm7
Yeah, my stock rooted 2.2 does this.

I cannot reproduce on the Paragon ROM either.
Sent from my Captivate
cant reproduce it on Serendipity 7, I am using the SGSII lockscreen
seems like it comes and goes. does it some times, usually when laggier, but sometimes doesnt...not all the time though...
That's just the last image left in the static screen memory. It would probably take more time to clear the memory than to leave it there. It doesn't happen for me but I have the CRT anim installed, so it blanks it out before shutting off.

SOLVED: Turns out I'm an ass hound. I have the No Lock app it turns out that it was somehow set so locking was disabled. Re-enabling locking fixed this problem and solved my hours of wasted time.
Original problem:
New, 32GB Nexus 5, rooted, franco kernel (v33) and have GravityBox installed.
This small issue has been bugging me for the last couple of days: It seems that when I have the Screen lock set to Slide, and the phone is powered off or left sleeping (for hours), turning it back on does not present me with the slide lock as it should.
When I got it, it did. (worked fine)
When I rooted, it did.
When I installed GravityBox, it did.
When I installed LightFlow, it did.
When I installed the franco kernel, it did. Then it stopped.
Not being sure if the franco kernel was the issue, the first thing I did was boot into Safe Mode and found that I was having the same problem, allowing me to, I think, exclude the franco kernel as a culprit.
Since then, I've tried all of the following--each of which was followed by a soft reboot:
Deactivated GravityBox (but did not uninstall).
Both froze (w/ TitaniumBackup) and uninstalled LightFlow.
Turned off Accessibility for all apps.
The only hint I have that some app might be causing the issue is this: When I restart/reboot, the slide screen lock is there. Subsequent (quick) screen power off's and on's present the slide screen lock! After about 10 seconds though--and trying to turn off and on the screen and getting the slide screen lock--the screen lock stops working, indicating that some app is starting up a few seconds post-boot, that's causing the slide screenlock from working properly.
It should be noted that if I set another screen lock, like pattern, it works as expected.
I'm completely stumped as to what might be going on and would appreciate any help debugging.
Update
I've been running adb logcat and notice the following when I turn the screen on (when screen lock = slide is set):
V/KeyguardServiceDelegate(24936): onScreenTurnedOn(showListener = [email protected])
D/SurfaceFlinger(24444): Screen acquired, type=0 flinger=0x2a007450
D/qdhwcomposer(24444): hwc_blank: Unblanking display: 0

V/KeyguardServiceDelegate(24936): **** SHOWN CALLED ****
I/WindowManager(24936): No lock screen! windowToken=null

In contrast, when I have Slide lock = pattern set, I see the following:

D/SurfaceFlinger(24444): Screen acquired, type=0 flinger=0x2a007450

Update 2:
Solution posted on top.
The only thing I could think of would be in your security/lock screen settings it may be set to only "lock" when you press the power button or something like that.

When Screen lock = Slide, that's not even an option. Only applies if you have Screen lock = pattern or another.

Hi All,
I was hoping you guy might be able to help me out.
The LG G3 is awesome, i love being able to turn the screen on and off without using any buttons.
One bit that i think could use some work is that currently, when the screen is on, you can tap the notification bar twice to turn the screen off, however, i find that this doesnt work so well all the time.
I have Nova launcher and i wanted to link a two finger swipe gesture with an app to turn the screen off however...
All the apps on the store only seem to offer you the option to turn the screen off and lock the phone immediately at the same time. Does anyone know of an app that will let me turn the screen off, but NOT lock the phone immediately, and just leave the lock settings to the system defaults.
It seems pretty straight forward but i've tried about 30 apps on the store and all of them only screen off and lock, none allow you to do it without locking the phone immediately.
Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks for the idea. I just tried and had no joy. It can trigger an action when i turn the screen off myself, but it wont turn the screen off for me.
Any other ideas?
I feel like this is so straight forward and that i'm just being super dense - im hoping someone points something so obvious and straight forward out that i missed!

You could try an app like Button Savior. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey.nonroot
It has the option to swipe from the side to bring up the buttons, and from what I understand, the power button on it is exactly the same action as pressing the power button on your phone. You could tweak it to try and get it to the solution you want, but I think at least the button should be what you are looking for.

My phone seems to do the same action either way. I think I know what you are talking about. It seems that on previous roms, the screen could go dark, but if I woke the phone back up it wasn't actually locked. What about this app? It seems to distinguish between the two.

Here is another one you could potentially try. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ericlpchow.screentrigger
Tried both of the above... Neither seem to work!

I use "No Lock" when I want to switch off the phone but bypass lock settings when I turn it on. Is that what you mean?

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion... The problem with that app is that the phone won't lock until I go back in and disable it... I want the phone to use the same system timeout so if I do leave my phone lying around it will lock after 3 or 5 minutes on its own.

Take this.
Note: Needs Root
Not sure it it covers your needs, but I'm using SkipLock combined with Gravity Screen
SkipLock let's you bypass the lockscreen (and pincode) when your phone is connected to either a trusted WIFI network or a trusted BT-device (carkit!).
As soon as you get home you'll turn on your screen and you the lockscreen as usual, but from that point on it's lockscreen free until it disconnects with your wifi network.
So when you turn off the screen the screen goes black, but as soon as you turn it on again you'll see either the homescreen or your last opened app.
It works really GREAT!
Gravity screen is not needed but makes it even easier. It automatically turns your screen on when you pick up the phone, and turns it off when you place it down (configurable). It also features Pocket Mode so it will turn the screen off when you put it in your pocket and on again when you take it out. Worst part was getting used to NOT press the power-button anymore

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion - i just tried the app and it has a non-root version, but that just basically turns the screen black, leaves the notification bar and navi buttons and doesnt actuall replicate pressing the power button.
I cant root my phone either as i need to use banking apps and these dont work with root.
Any other ideas?

This sounds like a cool set of apps, but I'm quite pedantic about my phone and the way it uses battery and with all the sensors working. I'm not sure its right for me, but its cool none-the-less.

Skiplock doesn't use up any battery. Gravity MIGHT, but there are options to choose that use up more or less battery.
Don't know about needing root though...
Hi, I have been looking for this too....no solution? I use the trusted places and devices to keep my phone unlocked when i am home, and when in the car (connected to bluetooth) but of course turning off the screen also locks it.
SkipLock isn't compatible with my Lollipop G3 - any solutions that work on Lollipop? I've been using Tasker but somethings it messes up things a bit so I would like to try something else
Whenever I set a lockscreen on my g3, knock for example, it works ONCE then reverts back so slide. (I also had lock when power is hit on) This a major problem so I'd like to get some help on this.

do you use a custom launcher?
Anyway i was playing around with it and got the result as you...the Knock code was working as it would turn on the phone, but if i pushed the power button it would default to slide. only thing i did was check the settings and apparently the "power button locks" did not stick so I unticked and cleared lock screen. then did it again and it stuck. works like it should now...
however this made the phone make lock noises.... must fix that now lol
Nope im on stock everything and it does the same thing for every type of lock. I'm hoping its just a bug that I can fix in the next OTA.
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with LRX21O on my Nexus 5 32 GB. I installed it on day one and everything went fine. I was able to press the power button to get to the lockscreen then either swipe right to phone, left to camera, or up to unlock, or just leave it alone to re-lock after checking my notifications.
I then turned on a PIN lock under security and played with it a bit to see if it could use my FitBit One as a Smart Unlock device (no dice because it doesn't do a bluetooth pairing, it just syncs). So... I turned the PIN back off.
I now have no lockscreen. Pressing 'power' just sends me straight to whatever was happening when the screen turned off. I've tried turning various screen lock methods on and off and goofing with it that way, but I can't get a password-free lockscreen to show up again! ARGH!
EDIT: NEVER MIND I'M AN IDIOT
I had been chosing 'none' instead of 'swipe' because I went to a list called security->screen lock and was figuring it was a "security" setting (swiping does not equal security). I somehow did not see Swipe even though I looked at the screen with Swipe on it like 47 times.
