ATT i337 on T-Mobile's LTE - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

Hi guys just want to share something and as I type I See this is already well known fact but I'll do it anyway cause it's just so awesome !
For many years I had to chose very carefully what phone I get and if I have any plans to go somewhere because in 99% of the phones will not do so good unless you're on specific carrier that you phone is made for. For years now I am an ATT customer and I always had ATT phones and as always no matter what plan I had or speed I had on ATT when I insert T Mobile, Simple mobile or any other off brand companies (T-Mobile towers) I'd had EDGE. That's why SGSII i989 was for me one of the best phones because no matter what I choice I always had 3G on it, on ATT and T-Mobile carriers. And now this. I have i337 and what an amazing phone I just took my wife T-Mobile sim card with LTE service, and damn thing worked like a charm. No problem at all. I have custom rom so all APN settings even got installed and magic LTE:13 is status window. Speed tests are amazing as well 23 Mbit down and 10Mbit up. So once again I know people know about it but for those that don't you can use i337 from ATT with ANY GSM carrier in US. Because all GSM carriers are off ATT towers like H2O or Red pocket and off T-Mobile like Simple Mobile, Go Smart etc will work on good speeds. Finally I can forget about EDGE with one device.
P.S.
Let me know if there are some carriers that will not support this unit. (I don't see how if in US only 2 GSM carriers that supply towers to rest)

What rom are you using? And where do you live? I'm also use att galaxy s4 on tmobile. I did pick up lte signal two days ago, and it said lte 14. By that time, my phone was untouched, all stock. So I wonder how can that happen and does anyone know if tmobile is rolling out new band or what?

the att s4 does support tmobiles lte band but it will not get 3g or 4g hspa+ unless you live in an area where tmobile has updated their towers to give off 3g or 4g hspa on att bands otherwise you will get edge. there is a method i used to unlock the tmobile aws band on the att s4 which will give you 3g or 4g hspa+ in any tmobile area no matter if they have the updated towers or not.

Try to switch APN to fast.tmobile.com instead of epc.tmobile.com. I just tried, and it worked beautifully.

I don't have an older device. On my S4 its still volume down+power. It maybe ROM related, because I've always run aokp, that's what my SS combo has been.

I believe the correct APN is fast.T-mobile.com not fast.tmobile.com. Try that.

i get LTE on my i337 on T-Mobile as well but I disabled it and prefer HSPA+ most of the time.. HSPA+ is fast enough and gets me much better battery life

I have i337 on UppWireless, which uses Red pocket intermediate provider,
which, in turn, uses T-Mobile or AT&T services. I subscribed for 4G, but
I have only EDGE. Is there anything I can download to get my 4G?

T-Mobile apn settings
Apn: fast.T-Mobile.com
Mmsc: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
Apn type : default, mms, supl, dun
Leave the rest untouched, keep in mind that some roms LTE wont work, im running Phoenix rom and havent had any issues so far.

[Q] Straight Talk and 3g for Sensation Help!

Hi all, I did a search and didn't get very far. Here's the deal I learned after buying my girlfriend and Tmobile Sensation 4G and putting it on a ST SIM(uses att service) that it doesn't have the 850mhz band that att uses for 3g. Is there any way possible to change the frequency to pick up atts 3g wether it be a radio/RILEY or a ROM that changes this. I don't think it is a hardware issue seeing as the galaxy s is able to change this setting easily. What I need to know is has anyone addressed this issue or found a work around? I am even willing to replace hardware if necessary. Maybe a Bell Canada radio/ril?? Currently we have Insert Coin ICS installed. Any help is appreciated! Thanks
Nope,
Maybe someone else will prove me wrong, but I don't believe there is any way to make a T-Mobile branded Sensation work on AT&T's 3G network. There were some rumors early on that this might be possible, but I don't think anyone has been able to make it happen.
There must be some way to access these network options to edit the frequency. If they can do it on some other phones maybe a Dev can get his hands on an RUU from the Canada Bell files and possibly find where this is hidden? There must be some way haha!

Not great, not bad at all actually. Especially for the price.
People over on howardforums swear there are 100/mb/day or 2gb/month limits on data though. At which point they claim they either turn off your data or close your account altogether.
I use wifi most of the day so I don't care but your situation might be different. Tmobile prepaid is what I had before though. $60/month for 2gb @ 4G speed isn't bad.

Looks ok I guess. I'm still a noob at reading those speed charts but I'll just take your word for it. The only problem I might have with them is , I'm scared they might just cancel my number completely or that i loose data completely. So would you recommend this or the t-mobile monthly $50? I'm paying 50 for my metro atm so I really don't want to pay more, I'll be glad with the same or a little bit less.

The thing is that on the $50 TMO plan you'll get 100mb of 4G and the rest will be 2G speed. Meaning that you'll struggle to play video like YouTube. That's why I recommended the $60 plan.

They have sims for TMO or ATT network.
Thanks guys! I ordered her a SIM from straight Talk for TMO. Should be here Tuesday. Anybody know how their voice/data service is in Michigan? I am spoiled by having excellent data with VZW but definitely pay for it.... Will she have worse service than with her current ST ATT SIM? Hope it goes well and they let me swap SIMS and keep her number!

dumb question guys about lte display on phone

Hey guys - just dropped my 4s and broke the screen.I'm using the skyrocket, and had a question about the Lte.
How do I know when I have the lte connected?
The phone has full bars and has a 4g sign
I live just west of ft.Lauderdale fl. You can call it south Florida.
Since you didn't tell us if you're running a custom rom, I'll take it as you're running stock, it should say 4G LTE if you are getting LTE

I bought the phone from someone.they said it as rooted ..how do I know what rom?
See the icon at the top of my screen? That's the stock icon indicating you're on LTE. If it's just a 4G without the LTE, you're on HSPA+.
If your icon looks very different, I.e. it's a small 4G over the bars, then you have an AOSP-like ROM and are on LTE, otherwise you'd see an H or H+.

Nope, the LTE APN will only work if you're on an LTE plan. The fact that your plan is unlimited is immaterial to whether or not it is provisioned for LTE. There are unlimited 2G, 3G, HSPA+, and LTE plans on AT&T.
IMHO the best thing you have done was drop the iphone js. Welcome to the community.

This is my experience as well. In fact I had to get a specific SIM card to get LTE when I traded my iPhone 4S for my Skyrocket; granted, the worker bees at the AT&T stores are constantly blowing smoke up people's asses, but I am pretty confident that you will not be able to access their LTE network without the proper provisioning.

T-Mobile vs Straight Talk (AT&T)

Hi guys, just curious as to whether you think it would be a better option to go with straight talk using AT&T's network, or chance it with T-Mobile (unlocked phone). The thing is, I am not sure if this phone will receive data properly with T-Mobile, as I understand it, the frequencies are different.
So, do you guys think I should try to chance it?? Also, how does T-Mobile's HSPA+ compare to AT&T's?
HSPA+ on T-Mobile is fine, but you're not gonna get it with a one x. So... Go with straight talk.
Sent from my htc_evita using xda app-developers app
Ok, thanks. I heard that T-Mobile is doing reforms to their network, but wasn't sure if it would apply to me in this case, and if they were ready or not.
I've been using straight talk for my last two phones, and the HOX. Service has been pretty good, no issues especially since they openly allow bringing your own phone. Data is almost always at H, with a few occasions where it drops to edge.

Straight Talk gave me the boot after using 1GB of data. The only good thing to come of it was being able to port my number to T-Mobile. I hate to say it, but Straight Talk is shady. Whatever you do, even if you can't understand what that [Mod Edit..please refrain from using racial slurs or commemts on the forums] hard working person, just trying to earn a living is saying, DON'T TELL THEM YOU WENT TO YOUTUBE! They cancel your account on the spot.
I'm using T-Mobile Monthly 4G now and all I see is EDGE in the city of Little Rock. I get a bar or two of 3G once I leave out to surrounding areas. No Root, No 3G/4G.

I'm using T-Mobile Monthly 4G now and all I see is EDGE in the city of Little Rock. I get a bar or two of 3G once I leave out to surrounding areas. No Root, No 3G/4G. [Mod Edit]

I did not use the proxy. It seems that AT&T reported that my usage was "excessive" (at 1gb?) and they gave me a phone call that was extremely distorted. I couldn't understand it at the time, so I called them up. In retrospect I would have ignored it.
Here is the message...
Hmm, seems like I'm going to have to be pretty careful on my ST account than.
I am getting a T-Mobile sim I ordered (before I knew it wouldn't work) in the mail today, ST sim comes tomorrow. Should I even try the T-Mobile one? Is there any chance at all I will get data?
Thanks for all the responses though guys!
EDIT" @ ackliph, it says you use Monthly4G with your One X in your sig? I used to use that for all my other phones, any luck?
EDIT 2: Nevermind, I see your other post. Do you think that has to do with service in your area or the phone not being able to receive that data band?
Damn bro, that sucks. Just order another sim and use a different email to set up account. Just an option i guess? My apn settings seem to b working so far. I dont watch much youtube. Maybe 1 vid a week or so. But ya, sorry u had that problem. What settings did u have set for your apn? Heres mine.....and all is well so far.

I bought the HOX after T-Mobile started turning on the 1900mhz data in the Seattle and surrounding areas. It doesn't seem to be officially deployed as the store associates can't confirm if it's active and stores also aren't advertising iPhone users.
SO it's mostly Edge service for now but in many areas I have been getting 3G and H signals and speedtest gets well over 8Mbps, not to be confused with 8mbps. More than enough for mobile use once they officially launched 1900 in the area.

You will get data. It'll just be EDGE. And I'm certain if you bought another SIM later they could switch them on the account.
As far as data, it's the band. My Galaxy Exhibit worked great. 4G and all. The HTC One X works great on AT&T/ST, but when you put in a T-Mobile SIM, welcome to EDGE. I think maybe T-Mobile is starting to open up more bands for the iPhone? Good luck... but T-Mobile is not as vast as AT&T so you might get frustrated if you travel.
@zounduser those look exactly like my settings. I may have had port 80 in the first Port section though. Oh, and be careful with that kennel.
Another thing to note about Monthly4G: they do not let you modify you're voice mail provider. A bit frustrating if you use Google Voice like me.

it looks like T-Mobile will likely be using their LTE spectrum to roll out its own LTE service
http://androidandme.com/2012/10/car...obile-combined-company-to-be-called-t-mobile/
from the comments:
"MetroPCS already has a LTE network on AWS spectrum, which is the same spectrum that T-Mobile plans to roll out LTE in 2013. It sounds like this merger will only accelerate T-Mobile’s network upgrade."

EDIT: however, I'm not sure how this will affect pre-paid on T-Mobile. Right now, there is no LTE on MVNO's and I'm sure that will likely remain the case for a while.

Anyone use Straight Talk

My contract is about to expire in a few months with ATT. Im trying to decide if I want to keep their service or try Straight Talk or use another GSM SIM. Anyone else use re-fill SIM cards as their primary service? Or should I just stick with ATT.
I've been using it for several months with no problems. 3g & 4G work great.

good hear. I might pickup a sim and give a try for a while. Or a Tmobile one.
I'm in the Houston area and ATT is horrid where i'm at... I talked to some friends that had Tmobile and they raved about the service in the area.
tmobile recently has restructured it's 3g to use the 1900mhz that ATT 3g uses so i'd get 3g in my area even though the inspire doesn't have the tmobile radios for 3g
so I ended up jumping ship to T-mobile prepaid $30 a month 100 min unlimited talk 5gig "4g"
I get better phone service everywhere I've been to compare but data didn't work at all (had the check mark next to the H+ symbol)... after some digging I found I just needed to update the APN info to Tmobile specs... my mother-in-law went to tmobile prepaid the same time I did (I set everything up) and that wasn't the case with her phone.
The hspa speeds are much better then what I got from ATT but i'm at the edge of Houston so if I go to certain areas I drop down to edge.
so in short... if you've been happy with ATT service in your area I'd stick with their towers but if tmobile has better coverage AND has either updated to 1900mhz in your area OR you can live with edge data speeds consider moving to tmobile.
I'm going to stick with tmobile... I'm going to pick up a new phone at some point so I do't have to deal with the limited data locations
one other thing to consider... if you use google voice some carriers don't support changing the voicemail box... it appears t-mobile prepaid is this way... a few people have figured out how to jump though those hoops but it's not easy
Using my inspire on net ten and couldn't be happier

I;ve been with ST for years now, finally got a smartphone (HTC 4g). I get all the same service anyone gets with ATT plans for $45 a month. I think a person would be silly to not get on ST. I know ST caps their "Unlimited" plans, I have never recieved any messages stating I am getting near tht , and I keep FB, Messenger, News Feeds, and weather running all the time, along with being a you tube addict, Watching full length videos (45 min - 2hour shows)........and Hey $45 a month.
ATT coverage, it is what it is.................
Like I said I use my inspire on net10 which is actually exactly the same company as straight talk and tracfone. I have found that using a dual apn setup instead of the single apn straight talk, tracfone, and net10 give you and it has literally doubled my data speeds. If anyone who has an inspire and is with one of these providers you can pm me if you would like to try the settings I use

straightalk and net10 are owned by the same parent company so service is probably about the same. I noticed a couple days ago that straightalksim.com only had tmobile sims all of the sudden. walmart online still had both
I have been on straightalk att sim since the nokia e71 sim (before they just offered sims) my brother got two sims from straghttalksim.com and both phones work great. if you get the att sim on att phone calling and text work out of the box. You simply change the apns in settings and data works

be careful about porting numbers with the VMNO's my dad did it several years ago and had nothing but problems, he ended up going back to Verizon dispite the huge cost savings
to the OP... and anyone else looking to take the phone with them... call or chat with ATT (I find the online chat to be far easier) and have them sim unlock the device... it opens up any GSM network... while 3g isn't a sure thing it'll at least make calls and on edge...

in short nothing that YOU can do... at least not with the inspire 4g...
T-mobile has used the 1700 and 2100mhz band for it's 3g service... ATT uses 850 and 1900mhz for it's 3g band
in the last few months Tmobile has reworked it's network to use the 1900mhz for 3g, they have done it in a number of large markets (including my home area in Houston) so I can get 3g/4g hspa+ speeds with the att radio... this is all in preperation for tmobile to open up it's LTE markets
this is me with the inspire on a custom rom running prepaid tmobile...

Tmobile will prob at some point upgrade your market but when is anybody's guess... if you have 3g/4g avl int he area on the tmobile network a new phone is going to be the easiest way...
a Galaxy Nexus GSM or Nexus 4 will give you both the att and tmobile frequencies... or for $200 you can get a new LG optimus l9 from Tmobile that will get the 3g/4g from tmobile...
even in my area I get bounced to 2g/edge a little to frequently so i'm going to pick up a new phone... i'm still debating on exactly what phone I want to get... with LTE right around the corner the nexus 4 is so tempting...

Im actually working on the Tmobile project here in the NYC area. They are using the $6B they got from ATT for the failed merger to upgrade their system wide. The upgrade is going on nationwide and will probably take some time to get going in your area. They always start in the major markets before moving to the small ones. Tmobile upgrade started probably just over a year ago.

using Verizon Note 5 on T-Mobile?

Is this possible?
I just picked up a Verizon Note 5, put my T-Mobile sim in (like I have for tons of verizon devices in the past) and expected it to work, but it does not.
I get no bars with a little X on top. No service. No text/calls/data. I have tried multiple APNs. I've tried global mode, lte cdma mode, lte gsm umts mode. I experienced an issue similar to this on the Verizon Note 4 once it updated to lollipop. However for that Note 4, I put a verizon sim in and that of course worked, so then I took the verizon sim out and put my T-Mobile sim in and it finally worked, as if the verizon sim had to "activate" the phone.
I tried those same steps on this Verizon Note 5 (Verizon sim first - checked internet and it was working with the verizon sim - put in T-Mobile sim - no dice)
I thought all LTE Verizon devices were unlocked? Is anybody here actually using a Verizon Note 5 on T-Mobile or AT&T??
I'm using mine on the the t-mobile $30/month 5GB 100minutes prepaid plan & it worked after I changed the APN settings but I didn't have to put in the verizon sim first.

T-Mobile is half the price, and in my city (and many other large cities) T-Mobile has the best network. Look into their 20x20mhz LTE and their Band 12 LTE.
Why the heck would you reply to a subject you know nothing about?
I have yet to see ANY city where tmobile is the BEST network... I've seen some where it was super fast in certain areas, but have never seen a city where it has better service over the whole metro area.
But whatever.

I am just curious why you went with the Verizon Note 5 if your plan was to go with T-Mobile...the T-Mobile model has root as an option. The Verizon model is locked down tight. I wish I could have gone with a T-Mobile Note 5 and moved it to Verizon. Again...just wondering.

2nd hand Verizon phones are usually the cheapest option by far on eBay. For example I grabbed this Note 5 for $350 (and checked that the ESN is clean on Swappa as well)
I used a Verizon Note 3 & Verizon Note 4 in the past with T-Mobile with absolutely no problems. Never had root on my Note 4 either but that doesn't bother me so much anymore.

Las Vegas is the area that I'm in. The company that I work for has hundreds of employees in the hotels & convention centers, we had been using Verizon for the past 4 years but started having lots of service issues/dropped calls/no bars lately so we started testing other networks. T-Mobile was actually far and away the best at least in our areas that we tested, not to mention the fastest data speeds.

I know this might be a little off topic, but wanted to chime in. I was just in Vegas last weekend and returned home this past Monday. Everywhere I went, no problems with 4G LTE.I was all over Las Vegas boulevard, Venetian, Golden Nugget, Mirage, Oreleans, Tropicana, Ceasars Palace and in North Las Vegas for church. No problems with 4G LTE signal.
My girlfriend, who has Tmobile and an apple iphone 5C. She did have very spotty 4G service. Very good signal at Diablo's Cantina and then all of a sudden we go to golden Nugget, it drops to 2 bars of 3G. So to remedy this issue, I bought her a brand new Iphone 6s. After that, she had 4GLTE every where on the strip. Sorry for off topic, but just wanted to add my 2 cents about the Signal in las vegas between Tmobile Iphone C/6S and Big Red JuggerNot3.

Wow, I feel your pain. Sorry to see that your signal isn't strong there. Mileage will always vary
Can you say for 100% certainty that the t-mobile variant will work perfectly on Verizon? I hate TouchWiz, but I have had the last three notes and the last Nexus. I buy for like the Nexus experience, but as a coach I need a quality camera like the note 5. I have a guy near me trying to sell me a t-mobile note 5 for $450 right now. I am Verizon, you are sure it will work totally?
question... Can I pick up a Tmobile Note 5 and have it work perfectly on Verizon? Has anyone tested this? Also does it work with the Root and Unlock Options?

Tmobile variant of note 5 will not work on Verizon.
But Verizon Note 5 will work on Tmobile. Verizon needs CDMA radio as well as GSM/LTE radios(World Phone).
