I'm confused why people are doing this. Have you tried going back to stock with Odin?
Also can somebody link the post where someone recommends to do this so I can read it?

MY IMEI is intact. I have 4G LTE data and WIFI. I only cannot make or receive calls. The phone acts like its making a call but never connects. The phone eventually hangs up after about 30 seconds.

My guess is when you NV restored you messed something up that's responsible for your data that isn't imei related.
I really have no idea where to even start with that, and I saw no reference to NV restore in that post anywhere. If you made an IMEI backup before all this happened, restoring that might restore all of your NV data restoring your text and data calls. I would guess you could theoretically fix it with qpst, but I really have no idea.
You can try to odin back to an ics rom and reprovision the phone, that could rewrite your NV data.

same problem
Im having the exact same problem. Reflashed it to stock and took it in to VZW to see if they could replace or fix, but they don't have any authority to do that and if I send it in, the techs might determine that I changed the "root", thus voiding my warranty.
My current work-around fix is to use my google voice number and Groove IP to make calls

My guess is that is what happened to my cell. Called Verizon, and they were unable to do anything to fix this and sent me a replacement S3 that I just received today. I unrooted and reset my flash counter yesterday on my old S3 so I can send it back.
Unless you made a backup of your nvram before you did the NV rebuild, my guess is you are probably going to have to replace your S3 like I just had did to since it made and screwed up some network settings on your cell.
I did the same thing to my wife's phone last night (oops) now she can't make any calls today.
anyone find a fix yet?
edit: 1st - I know the info now appears to have been removed from that post. I actually did the rebuild from memory as i read it a week or so ago.
Everything worked, IMEI intact except she couldn't make calls.
So right after it was found i did a nvbackup on both our phones.
decided to try the restore options and see if that helped.
sure enough downloaded term, su - reboot nvrestore and the phone sat at the sgs3 boot screen.
hmmm
forced it into recovery, wiped, reloaded. everything is working fine now.
The reason i did this is because her GPS locking was poor. and i had previously did the tighten the screws trick and thought it couldn't be that.
well after everything was working, GPS still didn't. I gave all the screws a turn and wouldn't you know - GPS locked right away.. *sigh*
sooo the lessons for others is
1st don't do the nvrebuild
2nd for GPS locking issues try your screws 1st
3rd if you are in this mess AND you did an nvbackup early on. nvrestore should get you going again
As soon as I start having GPS issues I call Verizon and give them hell because I have already replaced 2 phones because of GPS issues. Luckily this last phone has been spot on. I never would reset the nv.

Trying to help a friend who lost his IMEI (showed as 0), I restored it with the QPST method successfully. All the numbers are there and the IMEI is correct, but it still doesn't have data. I tried calling the number in the older efs backup thread to reprovision, and it didn't seem to do anything, but while I was messing around with it the icon popped up and I had one bar of 4G, but it disappeared after a few seconds. I'm out of ideas and I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

If on stock (root66 sounds) dial: *2767*3855#
Back up anything you may want on the internal storage before doing so. Should fix it if it's fixable.
This ^^^^.
I had lost mine also and followed the same instructions, got it all back, but no data return. You need to reprovision your phone by following the key sequence. I think you need to be stock to do it too (could be wrong). After doing that, all my stuff returned to 100% fully functional.
You definitely need to be on stock for it, though? What's it do specifically? I never outright lost my IMEI, but I did have a problem where data would intermittently cut out and it didn't display a phone number in the system info.
After a wipe and install it seemed to be okay, but now I'm without data. Phone number and all the other numbers are there, though. If I dialed that on CM10, what could I expect?

I already tried that, it didn't work. I just tried it again and it still didn't work, but I left it locked for a while and when I unlocked it, the 4G icon was there for a few seconds, and then went back to no signal and it hasn't come back.

Hmm if that doesn't work I'm not sure what else there is. Maybe a new SIM or phone, all I can think of
a new sim is needed, or you just have a data-bricked phone if that wont work... sorry bud
I'm not sure what it's doing, but I don't think it's unrecoverable. If I leave it for a while, when I unlock it I'll have a bit of 4G signal, then it disappears after a few seconds. I was able to use the browser while it had signal, but when I try to make a call it says "Mobile network unavailable." I did receive a few texts, I'll test sending them. Under Settings>About device>Status, all the numbers are there and everything looks normal except these:
Network - Searching for Service
Mobile network type - Unknown:0
Service state - Out of service
Mobile network state - Disconnected
Thanks for the help so far.

On mine, I restored to the Nandroid backup I made of the stock rom before switching and dialed the number mentioned before. That brought it back to out-of-the-box stock. Set it up, tested data, rooted, unlocked bootloader, installed CM10, tested data, restored apps, tested data, made another Nandroid backup, restored system apps and preferences, and everything's fine now.
My problem was really similar to that one, too. It started when the phone wasn't coming on when I pressed the home or power buttons, and after a battery pull it showed the phone number as "Unknown." A wipe and reinstall of CM10 showed all the correct numbers in the right places and seemed to fix it all, but data was back out in time. That was how it was every time I reinstalled that way; it'd work for a bit, then stop until I reinstalled again. Restoring my IMEI backup as a "just in case" hadn't helped either. Getting everything right again was arduous, but worth it.
Alright my dad has got a similar problem. He lost his IMEI before, we managed to get it restored and data working and all that good stuff. Well today he had to fly to Denver and put the phone into airplane mode, well when he came out of airplane mode it was stuck on roaming mode, and network is "Unknown" his IMEI, phone number, and all those numbers are correct but hes still stuck in roaming. We tried pulling the sim card, and going back to a root66 backup and then reprovisioning the phone. Any other ideas? Should he go back to complete 100% unrooted stock and then reprovision? Any help would be great
I've had the problem come back for me, so disregard my earlier post. I'm back on stock now with no data issues so far, so I'm going to sit on that for a bit to see if the problem is definitely with CM. It's been gradual every time I've fixed it; last time I lost LTE before 3G.

Restored a Nandroid. LTE isn't working though, so I may dial *2767*3855# to go back to full stock and see if that fixes it. Currently 3G is still okay.
A question...
Those losing their IMEI numbers... Is this happening on the locked bootloader? Unlocked bootloader? Both?
I've been digging through the forums trying to ferret out a pattern, but it's not presenting itself to me. Maybe someone else has seen the pattern?
I was on BMc's AOKP for about a month. The GPS was pretty crappy (universal problem I guess) so I flash the GPS fix posted in the dev section. This made my GPS worse, however the rest of my phone was still fine. Since I was going to flash a new ROM to get my semi-working GPS back, I decided to try something new so I flashed the newest stable build of paranoid android to try out hybrid. The phone booted up and then got stuck at activating, I just let it run through and it told me it couldn't activate blah blah blah. From that point on I was out of service. I flashed back to AOKP, still out of service. I Odin'd back to root66, this sent me into a bootloop. So I went though and Odin'd the bootchains -> root66 -> factory reset and the phone booted up just fine. However, I still don't have service. I do have 4g and I can receive text messages, I just can't make/receive calls or send text messages. Also, my IMEI and phone number are correct on my device. Here's a summary:
Reverted back to root66, locked bootloader
IMEI and phone number are intact
Have 4G internet, and can receive text messages
Cannot make or receive calls
can't send text messages
Is my SIM card borked? I'm not sure what else it could be. Thanks.

Not yet, I wanted to eliminate as many possibilities that could be attributed to flashing before I went to them. But if it is just a SIM issue I was going to have them reset it and see if it works.

If it was the official 12-18 you flashed, data is broken on it. Discussion is here Mastamoon posted an unofficial build with working data you could try flashing or dirty flash back to 12-17 theres a couple ppl with this issue in there

Did you tell the rep that you rooted and flashed a custom ROM on your phone? And even if you did, I doubt a rep would tell you to flash something with ODIN to go back to a previous version.
I can't post in the developer forum because of my post limit.
I know this question has been asked before but i admit i don't understand the responses.
I am using Synergy Rom r257 and my mobile data just turned off overnight. I haven't been able to get it back. My IMEI and ERI are still ok an calls come in and go just fine. But under my phone status i have no IP address and i made sure that CMDA/LTE have been checked off.
I have tried to toggle data and airplane mode, I also flashed r257 again. I did not use TB to restore my files after installation and did it all manually.
It was working fine for a few days. I am not sure if this matters but i have noticed since i installed that whenever I hung up the from a phone call it would say no sim on the call screen.
any advice would be appreciated

I'd like to say first.
That I bought my phone off Craig's list already rooted running taste of bean (cool story, I know)
First thing I did was flash miui ROM. And had 4g. A few hours later I noticed I had no 4g? So I'm texting the dude about it and he is clueless then I notice I lose texting.
I nandroid back uped into whatever he had made (stock rooted)
And it claimed I was in roaming.
(No data, text, call)
Edit : this method may work for your purpose.

Only fix was for me to Odin stock unrooted and dial the factory reset number. I am terribly sorry as I forget the number off the top of my head. *27 something
Afterwards my phone was perfect and went on rooting
I know a lot of this seems tedious, but I'm a noob and this is the best answer I have.
Hit the thanks if I pointed you in the right direction.
sent from that young galaxy on clean ROM!
I was running the latest stable version of CM10.1 on my GS3 and all was going well until someone sent me a text message and I tried to respond. I was greeted with the error of message not sent. I attempted to text someone else to have the same error. Attempting to call someone will just hang and eventually say call failed.
I thought it was a radio issue so attempted to flash different modems but had the same result. So I restored my previous rom Beans 11 that was working after wiping and the same issue. Data works perfect, but voice and text does not. I searched and odin'd back to stock VRLG1 and entered *2767*3855# in hopes of that fixing the problem, again no voice/text.
Any suggestions further help? I don't know what else to try!
*CM10.1 was working fine, and then calls/texting stopped but data continued to work without trouble.
*IMEI seems to be intact
*Flashed backup of known working rom and issue still persists
*Flashed back to VRLG1 and attempted *2767*3855# as per another post to no avail and this is where I sit.

When you say "Data" do you mean wifi or 3g/4g? If you have no phone/text/3g/4g then it's probably your imei. Check under phone settings, see if it's gone. If it's gone you gotta restore, do a search.
If you have 3g/4g then I don't know what the problem is. Sorry, just trying to help
Odin back to ICS and reprovision your phone by going into the dialer and typing *2767*3855#
rgrossie - data as in 3G/4G works no problem... phone showed IMEI still there but followed a thread to restore it anyway to make sure that wasn't the issue...

I hear ya, if I can't figure out what's up, I'll end up having to go back to verizon and see what I can do... It was out of the blue, everything was working and then suddenly it just stopped. Happened on a flash that was a little over a day old, so who knows.
Check Mobile network
I have thiss problem happen occasionally when I flash custom roms. Look under your mobile networks, see if either CDMA/SIM is checked or NV. If NV is checked switch to CDMA/SIM and then reboot. That seems to fix that problem most of the time.
Edit: After some tests found out this doesn't always stick, but I did find out that after switching from NV to CDMA/SIM turn on airplane mode so the radios are tunred off, wait a few moments, then turn airplane mode off. That worked more consistently than restarting it.
