So the other day I rooted my Inspire 4g, and it is now Unlocked. Now when it boots up and everything else, I see no superuser, so I just download it and some other apps that require a root access. And when I try to use it, says I have no root access, so I go into superuser, slide to the left and see that no Su Binary is there or found? And I used EasyUnlockTool to root my Inspire. I've been looking around for answers to solve how to fix this, but come to no luck or I am just plain dumb. I've been having some trouble with this, help would much appreciated. I need some help as to what I need to do? :\
You have only unlocked your bootloader, you have not rooted your phone. Those are two separate things.
Well think you could direct me to a way that I will be able to root it? I've been having a stressful time trying to. I've been trying everything on how I saw it.
Installing the app doesn't provide the su binary, but flashing the zip does. You could flash a superuser zip from recovery (I know SuperSU has one somewhere on XDA), or you could flash a rooted ROM. Or, you could use the Easy Ace Root Tool.
This is all documented in the Ace Think Tank thread, in multiple stickies in the Desire HD forums, or in various other threads concerning the same question. Details can be found there.
Do you know how long it takes when you go into the bootloader and Vol- to and press the power button on recovery, as when I did, it just stayed on the load up screen, with the white background and green HTC in the middle? Just wondering if you knew. But I will do what you just told me, thank you.

Have you flashed a custom recovery from fastboot?
Yea, I used GooManager, hopefully I didn't do anything wrong?

No idea then. You could try flashing a custom recovery.img from fastboot.
Alright, I'll be trying that then. Thank you.

I downloaded and installed the Incredible S Beta rom that is listed somewhere on this site for the Incredible. My issue is I want to revert to another ROM, HOWEVER, now my Superuser keeps force closing and will not allow ROM Manger to flash. I try to reboot in HBoot and ONLY get the start-up screen when doing Vol- and Power. Any suggestions on how to get into Hboot or another way to flash a different ROM when SuperUser will NOT allow permissions or Rom Manger wont reboot into Recovery (because superuser forecloses and wont let me flash Rom Manager
BTW-The Incredible S Rom works great...just NO pic/video (As it states in the description.)
Editing to take away some of the clutter (my clutter)
I am not sure what happened. As stated above once the ROM (which is great!) was installed, Rom Manager was no longer granted superuser access (was trying to reboot into recovery via Rom Manager). It wiped the Recovery Version from the phone and would not let me flash a new recovery. Everything else seemed to work fine (superuser permissions, ie. SetPC, etc.)
I tried plugging the phone in and reflashing Unrevoked directly to the phone. Unrevoked stated the root access was denied and asked if I had a "newer firmware".
I also tried uninstalling superuser (to only reinstall and see if it fixed the issue), however, Superuser was included in the ROM and would not let me uninstall.
The only way I was able to get back into Recovery was to re-run Unrevoked Flash and UNPLUG the phone when Unrevoked managed (somehow) to get the phone into bootloader. From there Clockwork ran fine.
Installed a different ROM and all is good.
The only thing I can think of is: In some post regarding the Incredible S being not branded to a certain carrier. When the ROM was installed, it showed "EVDO" in the notification bar (which leads me to believe it is for Sprint), I am not sure how THAT would affect anything being on a Verizon phone...again..only thing I can think of.
Just reboot the phone directly into recovery.

It wont let me. I dont think...I tried the Vol-+power...nothing..just reboots. Tried booting into recovery via Rom Manager, but since superuser no longer is granting persmission it wont even do that...is there another way to flash a different ROM?
I just tried reflashing Unrevoked directly to it...it failed to access boot, something about the firmware being too new...???
I dont know anything about your device but maybe your root is broken? Re root and re install superuser goodluck.

Oh, HTC Incredible.
I went into Rom Manager (and against ALL I have read) am trying to instal and reboot using Rom Manager...instead of going into recovery mode...phone is just sitting here "thinking" right now...nothing YET about being denied root access...fingers crossed...
OK, not sure this was SMART...Hooked phone back up to PC, ran Unrevoked flash kit again...unplugged phone once it came up in recovery...have access NOW to CLockwork...wiped data..installing different ROM as I type...hopefully this will work..
YAY...close call...sorry to waste everyones time..lol. So..If your installing the INcredible S Rom onto your incrediable..I have learned two things...1.) Unrevoked failed to push recovery due to the firmware...2.) you may lose superuser ability....

Include your phone model, the rom you tried, and what happened (SuperUses FCs[forcecloses]).

I was following instructions on how to use the Revolutionary Method to root my phone. ALL that I did was download Revolutionary, The HTC Fastboot Drivers and I obtained my beta key from the website. I hooked up my phone on charge only with USB Debugging enabled. The program ran fine and it said successful. The next step was to power down and then do an HBOOT. HOWEVER when I hit selected power down, my phone shut off AND IT WONT TURN BACK ON! Help!
What do I do? Please help me... Did I just BRICK my phone that friggin easily?!?!?! =(... I could cry....
Pull battery and wait for about 10 seconds then reinsert. Then, while holding the volume down button, press and hold the power button for about a second. Sometimes it takes me a few tries so you might just need to try again. Also, the revolution recovery is pretty crappy and you should update it to the modaco 4.0.0.9 recovery asap. Good luck!
*WHEW* Thank you and I will use Modaco! That was scary!
No problem glad I could help. Yeah it's always a good idea to make sure you read everything thoroughly, write down the steps, and give it a practice run in your head so you're sure you've got everything figured out. Back when I had my mytouch 4G I read for like 3 weeks before I attempted anything on my phone so that when I did I felt comfortable with what I'd be doing. Welcome to the club and good luck flashing!
Oh Yeah! I hear you loud and clear NOW. I slowed my roll WAY down... Thanks for the advice and help.
To add to unclespoon's great advice here, one thing to note that might help:
If the power cord is plugged in to the phone, and it's powered off, you'll see the orange light in the top right corner of the screen to denote charging.
If you press the power button, the light goes out, but after a minute comes back on. The phone remains powered off.
If you press the power button, the light goes out, and then you press the power button again before the light comes back on, the phone will power up.
This only applies to having the phone powered off and plugged in, doesn't matter if it's powered off and not plugged in.
This is on CWM 4.0.0.9, can't remember if it's that way for 4.0.0.8 or not - but you should upgrade to 4.0.0.9 as soon as you can if you haven't already.
I am having a great deal of trouble upgrading to Modaco 4.0.0.9... I really dont know what I am doing wrong either. Is there a STEP by STEP guide a child could follow. Apparently I suck at this.... I've havebeen reading all day after messing up and I've downloaded so many different programs and drivers and all kinds of other misc things I cant count anymore.... In HBOOT it says S-Off and SUperOneClick says it's already been rooted and I can download Root Apps. For all intensive purposes, it's been rooted BUT Root Check (the app) says it isnt rooted properly and I cant gain admin rights using the Terminal Emulator or ADB from my computer. I can push files and reboot but I can not use "su" to "shell" works but not "su"... I could pull my hair out! What am I doing wrong?

Okay when you type "su" in terminal. What is it saying?
And you can't open any rooted programs?
Try flashing one of the roms. Or reinstall using a different root method.
The roms are already rooted and you have modaco recovery. Check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320002

When I type in "su" it says: reloc_library[1312]: 1688 cannot locate '_ZNK7android6Parcel15SetDataPositionEj'... CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
and I CAN open rooted programs... it's weird... I can download, install and USE rooted programs...
I just tried to flash Modaco 4.0.0.9 but I dont think I have the IMG file located properly on my SD card... Can you assist with this? It would be greatly appreciated.
I've got MODACO hahaha... I'm getting this crap figured out slowly but surely. I appreciate all the input and advice... QUESTION THOUGH: I used Fr3vo for a temp-root and wrote modaco to my reovery partition I guess... When I reboot will my root still be in effect or will I have to do it again? If so, whats a good reliable permanent root?

How To Turn S-Off, Install MoDaCo Clockworkmod Recovery, and Install a Rom For Dummie
Section F, post 1
Thank You Sir. I'm proud to say I figured it out myself, through a lot of deductive thinking and reasoning, and managed to get everything squared away when it comes to ROOTING. I got bored and "flashed" the Senseless ROM to make things more exciting. Its fun when you start to figure things out. I appreciate all the help from everyone and the existing information that has been shared. It's been a great help.

I flashed my superuser from recovery using the download found here. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary. (Look under does revolutionary give me root download that zip)
Don't unzip. Put whole file into main sd card directory
Boot to recovery
Installed root package by click install zip from sd card
Reboot
I. Haven't done any temp roots. And you can try this just make a nandroid first (backup in recovery). That way if something goes wrong easy fix

I am trying to connect my phone to the T-Mobile HSPA. A friend told me I need to find my MSL number (code for my EPSD?) I can't find any guides to accomplishing this with a MT4GS. And when I searched EPSD on XDA it came back with source code forums. So naturally I downloaded the source code anyways hahahaha... I'm download happy.... but anyways, am I on the right track? What do I do? Are you familiar with this stuff? Thanks.

There is literally no information in this posting that someone can use to help you.
Blackknightavalon's direction to the SDK webpage is about as helpful of a reply as you can expect to solicit with the information you have provided.
This is like going to a car forum, and saying " I have a blue camaro. It won't start. I tried turning the key. Help please"
What commands are you trying to run through adb?
What errors are you getting, if any?
What do you see when you type "adb devices"
What operating system are you running on the computer you are trying to connect from?
Have you turned on "usb debugging" in the options menu on the phone?
There are a whole lot of things that can be your problem, and we'd love to help, but we can't help you if you don't tell us what's wrong.
Doubtless someone else will get back to you before I get a chance to, since my time is very limited these days online, but posting some more information about your problem will elicit a response that may actually help you.
Best of luck!

Make sure you have current adb drivers for your phone. It will show android composite in device manager. Fastboot will show fastboot device. Seeing a yellow question mark is bad.
Make sure your pathing is set up right.
Typing "adb devices" and if you see your device. If so you're ready to roll.
I usually get fastboot errors like this when I don't have drivers installed right.

I get Error Message with ADB
Hey guys, so I perm rooted with S-OFF my mytouch 4g slide, with theunlockr.com youtube video and guide using revolutionary. then I attempted to install a ROM with ROM MANAGER, and it got stuck on the splash/loading screen. After some searching I found out that this meant that I could have potentially BRICKED the phone, so I followed theunlockr.com's guide to UNROOTING the phone, and it worked, I flashed the original stock tmobile rom, and it loaded fine, I tried to start the whole process again, but now I get stuck in the very beginning, trying to get TEMP root, I start the fr3vo exploit like the guide stated, but then i keep getting error messages on the command line prompt saying that there is an error with ADB, then when I power the phone with volume down and power, the revolutionary is no longer on the top of the screen, but it still says SHIP S-OFF. Does that have to do anything with my problem? is there a way to GET S back to ON, so I can start the process over? or am I better off having S off??? I installed ROM MANAGER and tried to flash a recover image thinking that having S off would allow me to do this, but I get error messages saying there are problems with the permissions. the web site for the guide I used to root is this one incase anyone wants more details into what I did, any help would be greatly appreciated. theunlockr.com/2011/09/09/how-to-permanently-root-and-gain-s-off-on-the-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-slide-revolutionary-method
Use perm root method. Myself I flashed oneclick in recovery, but you can follow the guide the perm root part.
Btw rom manager supports flashing of the new cwm only. I checked the roms in rom manager they aren't supported. You have to go to the cm7 thread here and download and flash cm7 from recovery.
Just redo root process and install cwm from rom manager. Then go to the dev section and flash your favorite rom in recovery. My sig has directions on how to do everything.
Also if you're having permissions error use root explorer on the rom manager apk make sure it has execute checked. Also I think rom manager has a fix permissions button. Its never worked for me.
S off will allow flashing of cwm. However you need to be rooted to flash cwm threw rom manager. My sig has a guide on installing cwm without being rooted.

Thanks for the QUICK reply, but I looked at the guide, and it stated I have to have recovery installed, BEFORE I do the perm root method, but I dont have recovery, when I do HBOOT, and I try to boot into recovery, I get a red exclamation mark on the screen and I have to end up taking out the battery. Thats why I was wondering if having S OFF from the beginning now is what is messing me up when I am trying to ROOT again, I mean, I am doing the same steps.... just now I get errors when I try to do the TEMP root step... so I cant continue... and I cant get ROM MANAGER to flash a recovery image... is there a guide or steps someplace that can guide me to root the MT4G slide already having S off?
I found the problem myself, I had to enable USB Debugging.
I had USB debugging enabled.... hmmmm you made me doubt myself... I guess I will try it again, since I flashed stock rom again all settings were reverted... so I cannot VERIFY I had USB debugging on, but I was sure I did... I will try again and post... I am reflashing the stock rom like 5 times a days trying to root again =(
wait... cwest31, you had which same problem? because I was writing about 2 problems: about booting into recovery with S off, but no recovery image (hence I got red exclamation mark), and trying to get ROM MANAGER to flash a recovery image on my phone since I have S off already, but I get error messages (problem with permissions)

What he said.
Also ROM MANAGER WILL NOT WORK UNLESS ROOTED. Get rooted then try flashing the image. The compendium also has step by step guides using terminal emulator once rooted
sent from my Agent Orange MT4G Slide using xda premium
Also I want you op and the other one to be clear on what s off is and root.
Getting S OFF allows unsigned zips to be flashed. This means you can now flash roms and root. Without s off you cannot root, rom, kernels. S OFF is not root.
Root is gaining admin rights over your phone. this allows programs that require access to the root files to have access to them. ROM Manager, titanium backup, drocap, setcpu will be granted access to the root files and programs which unrooted phones would not be granted access .
This can be a reason why you two are having trouble using rom manager unrooted. Rom manager cannot access the files it needs

Either twrp should work fine personally I would go with the latest version from XDA. Second no it will not change your operating system it just changes your recovery on the phone so you can flash Roms seamlessly. But once installed and in twrp the first thing it will ask is if you want to root system just Swype the bar and it will root if that's all you want then just reboot phone after that and your done.
Thanks, one more question, regarding superSU, do I need that after installing TWRP? Answered your new thread, but if you're trying to reboot to recovery, you should try:
fastboot reboot recovery
Since you're at the bootloader, you can also use the [VOL] buttons to select "Recovery" and go from there too.
ok, thanks, my first time trying to install TWRP, I didnt know had to boot recovery, i just did what I read the thread here on how to install it. What does TWRP look like? All I get is boot up that looks normal and nothing indicating a change has even occurred. If I boot recovery will TWRP boot?
I called my mom and asked her to hold the power and down volume buttons in and see what happens... she figured it out. she snapped this picture of it and asked me what to do now... I told her I didn't know, I thought the first thing TWRP asked upon boot was if you wanted to root?
Hey guys, after stalking the forums for about a year or so, and about 10-15 phones later, I feel I am ready to contribute something useful, I also got a video I'm going to make about the process and upload it to youtube cause I feel it'll help people as well. Basically I morphed all the rooting topics and links into my summary. I hope it helps someone.
1.First, I started from scratch. (ODIN + OK7 Firmware)
2.Once it makes it setup screen, hold both volumes and power.
[email protected] Black menu, select Factory Reset, hit lower middle button, but right after the phone restarts itself have your fingers already on volume down, power, and lower middle button. Hit Power up to continue into Download mode. Once in download mode, go ahead and flash the sboot found around the way, I'm to lazy to link and stuff lol
4.Should see some green lettering now when booting, once your in and got debug set to on, go ahead and run the easy tool found here in the forums as well and have it flash the root kernel, once it reboots, you should now have an unlocked lock along with your green letters above.
5.Once it loads, Install SuperSU-ME PRO.
6.Root it with 4.9.5 Kingroot apk.
7.Open SuperSU-ME PRO.
Voila, pretty clean root, does go away at boot, but settings stay locked from rooted apps and I use System App Remover Pro so it works out pretty cleanly. Currently not able to have SuperSU-ME swapped out with just SuperSU. (Another user on the forum claimed he pulled it off, I on the other hand could not pull it off and settled for this.)
So in summary, you lose root on reboot, but is easily re-engaged upon boot by just running Kingroot and re-enabling the root. (Because kernel, settings etc. would already be in place.)
Lets see, in terms of mods, I'm just running L Speed, Kernel Auditor, 3C Battery Monitor Pro, Andromizer Pro, and Root Explorer installed, and my build.prop is fixed for the memory leak. Overall, coming from an s7 edge, than to a Verizon Note 5, this is a Slam dunk size wise. Phone is completely functional if I don't wanna run root, so its actually not that bothersome that it stays locked in. I am amazed at this all. I've always had phones with locked bootloaders, and finally (aside from the s7edge) was able to play A LITTLE. Will be getting something dope when I get my taxes, but if anyone needs any help or anything lemme know, I'd be more than glad to help. Sorry bout the wall of text. And P.S. if the guy, that claimed he got SuperSU going in place and flashfire, I'd love to be able to pull that off for flashing the oe2 roms.
Thanks in advance and Cheers. -Klip1
**Update, I indeed did get SuperSU to fly!!** -Wish there was some flashfire roms. :-X

You mean SuperSU-ME? youtube search it. it'll replace SuperSU with Kingroot's Supersu.
**Update to guide**
Flash Sboot found in the forum via odin, once you see the green letters go forth and root with kingroot 4.5.0. Then install Super-SU-ME PRO 6.7. Voila.

Did you get it going? Green lettering top left, unlocked sign middle?
Actually I didn't have time for it, too much work.. :/
Maybe this weekend
Thanks for finding/testing/posting this!!! I can't get supersu-me pro to take over for kingroot, which isn't the end of the world but kingroot has to much bs imo. Have you tried using flashfire to install xposed or even try to install the .zip for supersu?
What was your steps to get regular supersu working? TIA
Edit: WiFi keeps loosing saved passwords anyone else experiencing this or have a fix/workaround?
EDIT: I have gotten wifi working after reboots and root surviving a hotboot. See my post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71410019&postcount=109
Is this a permanent root with write permissions or no?
