[Q] TF700 Digitizer - Asus Transformer TF700

All,
I cracked my digitizer and need to replace. Touch still works and LCD is still working great. I checked amazon and ebay and found a replacement, however there are 2 different versions i can get. v1 or v2. Is there a way i can find out what version i need without removing the digitizer first? Also, does anyone recommend a link that describes the process of replacement?
Thanks,
E

I am also in this unenviable position. I fell asleep with it on my lap and it fell maybe 40cm onto linoleum. Isn't this thing supposed to have gorilla glass? If this is gorilla glass, why even bother?
Anyhow, at least the teardown looks pretty straightforward. If the tf101 is anything to go by, it should be a cinch.

Will a TF300 screen protector fit a TF700?

Hey, just wondering if the screenprotectors for a tf300 will fit a tf700?
Thx
It won't. The screen are different sizes. A screen protector for the TF201 will fit it though (I can confirm this as I put one on my new TF700T).
Hope this helps!

Actually it will; both are 10" screens. See my post here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/30390-screen-protectorprotective-case/
The only concern is a VERY minor difference in camera and light sensor hole position.
Cool thanks. So the holes for the camera and light sensor on the tf201 screen protector line up?
That's good to know I just ordered a couple of anti glare protectors for the 201 hoping it will fit. Hoping it doesn't take away from the clarity of the screen.

Please post your thoughts on the anti-glare after you install it. Normally, it's the very first thing I do with my devices (for the anti-glare properties), but I've been hesitant to do this with the TF700, just because the screen is so damn nice... However, if it's doesn't interfere too much, I may re-consider....
Thanks!

No problem I ordered 3.
First 1 to test with half on the screen and the other half of the screen uncovered to see if there is any major clarity loss.
Second 1 if I like the test then it's staying on
Third 1 is backup.
Either or I'm most likely gonna keep it on cause even though screen is bright enough to overpower the glare its still annoying I myself tend to sit on my patio a lot or on my lounge chair next to the Window where the sun is strong. I will take pics and post them to see if you see a major clarity loss. Everyone is different.

Any update as to whether or not you are satisfied with the TF201 screen protector on your 700? reason why I'm asking is my 700 just came in and I'm going to pick it up tonight, thinking of making a stop at best buy to pick up an anti-glare screen protector and wanted to know if I should just grab a 201 vs a 700.
also any specific brand or any anti-glare should do? I'm rocking phantom skinz on my S3, pretty nice quality if you ask me but a screen protector is a screen protector so money comes first here. doing it more for the no-smudge and anti-glare then protecting the gorilla 2
They both fit size wise but you might need a hole puncher to line up the camera and sensor in the front. The 3 I ordered sucked. They take alot from the screen. I still have one left. Check it out I took a glare cover off cause be dock came in a couple of days ago. I had one more anyway. And in the time I took it off and the time I put the new one on I got a very faint but noticable 1mm scratch on my screen. Ask me how and I will tell you I don't know how. Must have been dust on my hand. Sucks
Put a screen cover guys.

I ordered a couple from dealextreme. Someone else said they were good. The downside is they said it will take 3 Weeks till I receive them. Until then I have this screen distorting protector on.

The TF201 seems to be ok. Check this out here. Hope that helps.

I can confirm that our TF201, TF300, and future TF700 are all different screen protection systems. Also hole punch will end up leaving bubbles if you aren't extremely accurate in using one, so be careful! (That is on our dry GLARESHATTER system, wet systems can usually be hole punched fine). Also there is still slight cutting differences!
TF300 screen protectors definitely do not work. I bought a pack of high quality ones for the TF300 I use to own and they are mis-sized AND the camera slots are off (though only a little). The missized protector itself is trouble though as the TF300 is wider.
I got some TF700 screen protectors as I didn't want to risk TF201 protectors. Asus really moved all the buttons around to make the TF700 versus the TF201. I'm guessing putting all the antennae into the little plastic strip part of the tablet forced them to change their pcb.
Just a quick update. I purchased a Zagg screen protector for the TF201 and it fits perfectly on the TF700. Front camera and light sensor align correctly. Anyway, remember this is only in regards to the screen protector, I don't know about the full body protector.

Asus transleeve works on infinity

I just received a transleeve cover (the origami one) for the tf201 and it works on my tf700 with no issues.
Fyi, in case that's the kind of cover you'd like for your tablet. I also have a keyboard dock, so I think I'm set on covers

What about buttons layout?
It's only a cover. So it doesn't cover any buttons. Have the same one myself, and it fits perfectly.

Not sure if it's the same case as with Prime but there were a lot of complains that this transleeve causes scratches.
Im curious how well the cover fits. I also have one from my prime and although it appears to fit initially, it doesn't actually lock in and it falls of rather easily. When I look at it from the bottom, I can see the hooks on the cover don't fully catch in the dock slots. Also, the usb cable connector opening isn't centered as it should be in the covers cut out. It's as if the dock connector slots are slightly deeper than they were with the primes. I am curious if this is just my device or in general.

I ordered mine from best buy recently, and I wanted to get this cover, I wonder if it would be worth getting a screen protector as well to help protect against scratches? I just hate screen protectors...never had a good one on any phone.

I had the same problem. Sleeve worked great on my Prime. When the camera module failed and the Prime was replace with the Infinity, I found the cover would not latch securely. Almost dropped the tablet the first time.
Tried several times to attach, but it just slips out of the connector slots

The slots on the TF700 have been redesigned. I'm not sure what the correct term for the bit of the slot that the latching mechanism clicks into, but I'll call it a shelf. On the TF201, the 'shelf' was part of the case, which meant that when attaching it to the dock, or in this case, the cover, the action of attaching would caus abrasion of the outward facing part of the 'shelf'. On the TF700, the 'shelf' is recessed, and made from what seems to be steel, so, although it will also get abraded, the marks will be fewer and less visible.
The recessing of the shelf means that the the 'neck' of the latches being pushed in needs to be slightly longer so that it latches in behind the shelf properly. In the case of the cover, it is not. This could be rectified by grinding off a portion of the latching, to extend the neck a little. A mm or so should be enough. I plan on doing this when I get some time.
I hope this explains it, despite my lack of knowledge of the correct terms for all the bits involved.

UPDATE:
The posts on the transleeve are millimeters from allowing proper attachment. On hinge of the transleeve are some rubbger spacers to hold the hinge away from the tablet. I removed those spacers and that provided just enough additional space for the hinge to latch into place. Hope that helps.
Please post a picture of your mods to help everyone understand what you've done...
There were already other threads on this, so no news here. I've been using it for two months now, but sporadically, it's ok, but I don't love it, the dock or neoprene sleeve is a better cover. Plus it leaves "stains".

?? I have 3 transleeves and all 3 of them fit the TF700 perfectly, no modding required. Sounds like you got unlucky.
My prime's origami case also doesn't fit well on my infinity. I mean it fits, but it is in no way secure. It doesn't latch at all and falls off with the slightest tug. Isn't there an official origami case for the infinity?

Screen Flex

Yes yes, I know we have had threads about it before, but what exactly is the bit that is flexing? The glass flexes, but is it the adhesive that connects it to the LCD or is it the whole body that is connected through the plastic clips. Since my warranty is bugged, and the ASUS guy had to tell me that with the unlocked bootloader, I get no warranty even if its not related to the software at all, like the screen. He said unlocking it actually roots the device. Well my friend, I am pretty sure you're wrong. But anyway, enough fuming about QC, we need to be productive and try to think of a fix, aside from opening it up. I am thinking if it is connected by adhesive, and that is what is flexing (I think it would be because for the plastic clips to just break suddenly seems a it ridiculous) would it be possible to maybe heat it up with a hair dryer and then press it back down until the adhesive sticks again? Just my thoughts, can't stand this clicking. Any other ideas?

I have heard that leaving it in the sun until it gets pretty warm, and then putting a fairly heavy, flat object (a big art book, let's say) on it (while your tablet is lying on a blanket or something soft/smooth) may melt, re-attach the adhesive. If you do this, please be careful, lest you end up with a worse problem. And as always--I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE, blah, blah, blah.
Good luck!
OK, may actually try this today. Hope it all goes well:-\ I think to also add to my theory, it always seems better during the day, when its warmer. Or maybe it could be cos I have used it less.

Well now there seem to be enough give in it to allow for the glass to hit the LCD and make all the colours mix like on a desktop monitor, wondering if it been this bad is going to be able to damage the LCD.
I heated mine up with a blow dryer on low, folded up a paper towel many times so it was about the size of the screen border, then used a sandwich clip on top of the folded paper towel to apply pressure and avoid scratching. Result, seems better so far but I just finished the experiement. We'll see if it holds.

Guess we're back to the drawing board. It didn't hold but I have hope now. Maybe I will heat it up a little pore next time. I was pretty cautious and didn't heat it too much the first time. It's kinda nerve racking, why the hell do I have to do this in the 1st place! I don't want to return this one, it is my 4th from Best Buy. 1st had screen bleed, 2nd had no bleed but a loud vibrator that rattled, 3rd has worse bleed than 1st, 4th has a lifted screen on left side and creeks sometime when being picked up (I think it's the camera). If this were a cheap device I would accept flaws but for $500 I expect more!
I feel your pain. Everyone I show can notice the problem but say öh, its not that bad, live with it". Its really bad when you spend over $500, you expect a lot better.
Last night i was using my TF700 before i go bed i kinda hold it on the "ASUS" front branding..then i heard a click, the screen keep making the clicking sound every time i press on the last S on the asus name. that thing bothers me the whole night. my TF700 was 3 days old.
I went to best buy today 3pm and exchange it for another one...turns out i got a bad light bleeding above the home button. so i went back to best buy around 8pm to exchange again. the lady and another guy try to look where the light bleed coming out then ending up giving me an exchange with out giving me a hard time. I open the new tf700 inside bestbuy (in-front of the bestbuy employees) i tried to see if i got more bleeding..i still seeing the light bleed near the home button. decided to go home to see if i got worst light bleeding this time... since bestbuy store is pretty bright. I got home and YES i got the worst light bleeding of all the tf700 (3) i got. i will return the tf700 tomorrow or exchange it with IPAD 3.
Sucks that i just purchased 20ft HDMI and Slim case for the TF700. thats $40 of accessories. (both on the way to me)
I Love TF700 but im tired..LOL
The people at best buy are going to think I'm insane. I returned my clicking one, just to get one with bad screen bleed in the lower left hand corner again. I know bleedless units exist, I had one. It just clicked and the screen flexed. Between the 5 units (yes 5) that I've had, not one has gotten everything right. I would have gotten a Note by now but I have a dock that I want to take advantage of. Maybe I'll just sell.... This is ridiculous. I really just want a 100% working tf700.
I know too that theres a GOOD TF700 is out there... thats why im not settling for the 1 with flaw. I purchased the Note 10.1 last Aug.19 exchange it for tf700 the next day. that TF700 was GOOD until my son dropped it on a carpeted floor and then the TF700 showed some light bleeding so decide to get my money back the next day... purchased another TF700 which is the 1 that click--- Story ^ up there.

Mine is perfect, from BestBuy in Boston. It is a Amethyst Grey 32GB C7 unit . What exact model/month are the ones you are reporting with problems? That could be a clue. Like, are they 64GB? Gold? C6?
All Gray, all C, all 32gb..... Got a new one that is pretty flawless so far, knock on wood. Took long enough. No clicks, no bleed, no flex. This is what all I wanted, geez.....
It's okay guys. I'm going to be exchanging my 700t, the 7th time now.

Thinking twice about buying the dock

I'm thinking twice about buying the dock. I know its amazing but I've heard reviews about the screen breaking because of the tablet being docked. Comments and thoughts will be highly appreciated.
Its fine. I would most certainly get it. Imo these issues are from a minority of people. I for one have had no issues. I have also owned the Prime for 6 months and had no problems with the keyboard damaging my screen. Just watch what your doing and you should be fine.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
I was hesitant when I bought mine for the exact same reason. But I believe those with the issues are in the minority or Asus would have a class action lawsuit against them. And I"m sure Asus has learned from its mistakes, as the issue appears to be far more common on the Prime than the TF300 and I've yet to see a single case of it on the TF700 that wasnt caused by something else (ex. a lose screw, falling damage). Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be more flexible than OG Gorilla Glass, so I'm sure that also helps things.
Just make sure to open from the center and not the sides to lessen the stress on the glass, and hopefully nobody will have issues.
i think people are picking up the tablet/dock using the corner of the screen.
I can see how the weight of the dock could flex the glass enough to crack if handled this way.
Thank you all for your thoughts, will consider it now more . Also should I worry with the screen lifting issue? Is not much on mine just on one corner. And sorry if I sound like a quality control freak jajaja.

As long as its not starting to come apart and loosen further you should be okay. I heard that these FHD screens are thicker then your Standard screens so I guess its normal. Definitely return it is it gets worse.

A square trade warranty makes this concern go away... the Dock is totally worth the risk even without the S.T.W.
I initially had the Transformer Prime with the dock, when I jumped ship to the Infinity I stayed with the same dock. It is working great with it, no need to force the dock, fits in perfectly. No scratches to the tablet either.

I put the tablet with the dock in a neoprene sleeve in my backpack. I took it with me on 5 airplanes, 2 busses and all around Berlin (walking around). It's been slung up and down off my shoulder and back shoved under the seat in front of me and pressed up agains a laptop and books, headphones, bottles, etc. So far (knock on wood!) it's been fine no cracks or anything.
I do plan on getting Squaretrade though.

[Q]Replacement Bezel

Where exactly can I order a new bezel from? I don't know how but today when I got home I noticed the sdcard popped out and wouldn't go in correctly. I have the tablet in a leather case for a Toshiba tablet, so I didn't notice the bezel was messed up until I took it out of the case to check out why the sdcard was not fitting in. It apparently was dropped on the corner and really bent it up. Where exactly can I get a replacement bezel from or does anybody know how much it would take to RMA? I'm in Mississippi, USA.

That would be user inflicted damage which means you would have to pay for repair.

There is this store which was linked in another thread (supposedly mentioned by asus support)
But that price looks kind of expensive, you might do better buying a non working tablet from ebay.
Around $75 with shipping. Ill have to check around at a non working tablet. Maybe I could even part it out for cost of shipping to users here. Thanks.
