Hi i played a few full hd videos on my XL using mobo player and mx player and on both players the videos was lagging,so is there a good full hd videos player for Xperia l on which videos are not lagging. What can be the problem that it lags?
anyone?
Pl: Nie testowałem na innych playerach gdyż odtwarzam tylko na androidowym ale przy filmie 720p nie zacinało ale na 1080p już tak to może być wina softu.
Eng: I haven't tested at any other video player because I only use the android one. With the 720p movie there wasn't any lag but when I played 1080p I was able to notice less fps than on 720p I think that might be a software issue.
thanks for reply, yes you 're right.I read in Internet that the msm8230 and adreno 305 support 1080p, that must be the the soft ,because in mx player hardware decoding is not working, on 720p hardware decoding is working. We need codecs from sony for H/W.Btw on what video player you played the movie? on stock from sony i cannot open 1080p.
well i have some full hd files but which are not hardcoded i had success in playing those
Improve Full HD Video Playback with MX Player.
For MX player users there is a setting for Fast software decoding that allows for smooth 1080p playback.
I personally played a few full hd videos and was working fine.
this setting is a bit deep so a bit of digging is needed.
Instructions:
1.start the hd video(1080p) or above now press the menu button.
2.choose play
3. is the menu option you should be offered a check box for use speedup tricks(check it).
4. restart the video.
now how does it feel...?
EDIT : for those who dont know where the menu key is while playback see in the top right corner.

Amazing bro...
@topic:
XL have a 854 x 480 lcd so I don't know why people ask for decoding a FHD (1920x1080) videos. It doesn't make sense on this screen (resolution).

really... SP support full HD recording and decoding by default, so that's why it works on stock sony player.Xperia L don't have hardware 1080p decoding that's why it lags, but the chip support it.
1080P reg
If you want to decode such 1080 p videos try using vlc player for mobile........
It works fine on my xperia L.......
If your bootloader unlocked
Use cm11 with CAF kernel
It is support 1080p decoding and it's works fine
Hit Thanks if I hlep

it plays 1080p videos but with too many lags.........but as far as i know nvidia tegra 2 can play 1080p videos , like lg optimus 2x..................
I do own a EEE pad transformer also powerd with the tegra 2 chip.
Search in the market for MX video player. It's free and, with soft decoding, it plays well.
If MX video player doesnt wrok (good) then try moboplayer.
Well, I heard that "best" solution for playing HD movies on Tegra-2 is Dice player. Because, they are trying to use GPU power of chipset to decode video stream in replace of missing 128-bit commands NEON module.
Anyway, HD video with profiles different from base (main) 3.1 will have lags or skip scenes, even freeze. The only way to play such files - convert them to much lower bitrate and play with MX player, for example, in fast software mode.
i think galaxy r has a weak DSP because it records 720p video and doesn't play 1080p videos and i think even 720p playback is limited to [email protected]/4 ref frames.
here is a 720p mp4 avc [email protected] sample for you to try and see if it works in stock player:
https://rapidshare.com/files/1822600111/720p_avc_high_l4_cabac_4_ref_frames.mp4
and here is a 720p mp4 avc [email protected] sample:
https://rapidshare.com/files/3012087529/720p_avc_high_4.1_cabac_4_ref_frames.mp4
the samples are only 2 mb, so please try them out in stock player and tell me the result.
thanx in advance
1) Why do you have to use a stock player if you can choose full HW-accelerated: Dice or MX player?
2)I have S2 - I can't really see the difference between 720p and 1080p on such small screen (4'3") and I don't think any human eye would see it

stock player also does hw acceleration, and if a dual core phone doesnt play 1080p video, then at least it should have full 720p support
yes but stock player doesn't play all video formats the two players above do.
BTW. these samples are far away from HQ-quality, especially divine enrique is extremely pixelated I don't think it'll make any difficulty for SGR, but let's wait and see.

stock player doesnt play all formats because it does hw decoding only while mx and dice can do both hw and sw decoding which uses cpu and drains battery much faster than hw
and it is not about quality(bit rate), what matters is resolution(720p) and codec settings([email protected] frames)
I tried to play these 2 videos..
stock player was unable to play both the videos..
but. mx player with fast sw decoding played both clips very well...

what??? i cant believe it, so i guess max hw decoding support is 720p avc [email protected]/4 frames like this sample:

this phone doesn't play anything in stock player(hardware decoding) above 720p [email protected]/3 ref frames, you can download media info to know the specs of the videos you want to play:
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download
i guess if you want play anything above that smoothly using CPU( software decoding), you should use NEON optimized codecs for the player you installed like mx neon codecs from here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.ffmpeg.v7_neon&feature=more_from_developer
but, you should install mx player first

i tried most of the apps bt none of them has helped.my friend's hcl u1 tablet also doesn't support hd playback by default but when i tried playing a 1080p movie in mx player by enabling h/w+ decoder it played flawlessly so i'm wondering why i'm unable to select h/w+ decoder in my galaxy s duos while playing specifically hd videos only otherwise h/w+ decoder works fine fr non hd content.
if you want you can root and use scripts like thunderbolt to boost your phone's performance.
h/w+ codec doesn't work for all videos. so its no use thinking about it.

In gallary of galaxy s duos it should run 720p video of avi and mp4 smootly but the other for the format we need to install player
But u have installed the mx player it should had detected video format to run smooth
Try different player like Bsplayer or go to setting of Mx player and switch to s/w decoder for all the video It should work

i have tried every thing but nothing is helping me out...
it works
changing the decoder from hardware to software in mx player did work! Really!
1080p runs like a charm, at naturally smooth frame rate.
answer is simple, graphics hardware in s dous is not capable of handling the video on its own and with full hardware acceleration. point of shame, though, ace 2 can even record camera at 1080p. on the other hand, processor is good enough.
my guess is, class of sd card also matters. there may be other apps using the card and for mx player, it only gives a fraction of the full read speed which makes the frame rate look bad.
I used class 10 scan disk, 16 gigs and s/w encoder in mx player, it runs as smooth as the screen can bear. not as robust as my galaxy s2 does. but it goes to the better screen quality, instead..
Can xperia l play this highly coded 720p video smoothly in stock player or mx player?

Edit:
Playback was smooth without any noticeable lags. Also, I watched some anime on this phone, 20 minutes, 300+ MB, and it was smooth too. So for 720p playback, Xperia L is great.

Hello everyone,
I have a few questions regarding 4K videos. I tried playing a 4K H265 10bit video on the phone using the native Sony Video app and, although it did play, it was slow as heck. Does the phone support such videos natively (i.e. Hardware Accelarated playback)? Is it an issue of the app itself? Since almost all 4k content, with or with HDR/10bit, is in H265 are we limited to Youtube and Amazon for 4K playback? Do I have to transcode all my 4K Blu-Ray movies to H264 in order to play them? Are there any third party players (e.g. bsplayer) that can play 4k videos (and utilize the phone's 4k resolution, not just play them in 1080p). Thank you all for your time.
I downloaded a 4k test sample encoded in x265 and played it with MX player app with hardware acceleration.
Worked perfectly. Smooth as butter.

Thanks a lot for your time. It seems that mx player does not use the phone's native 4K resolution though and displays a 1920x1080 image so there is no point in using it. My question is whether a video player app exists, besides Sony's native one, that is able to use the phone's 4K resolution, not just play 4K videos.

Kot5nik, in my opinion, changing the resolution that android runs is not the proper way to go. Since XZ Premium is a device that supports 4k/HDR i shouldn't have to resort to "adb" to watch a 4k video in another app. Plus, by doing that, battery drain increases a bit, phone dialer app does not work, app switching does not show thumbnails etc.

FartyParty, I stand corrected. You are absolutely right. I took screenshots of both MX and Sony apps and the look identical. Only one difference though. It seems that MX Player doest not utilize HDR. There is a noticeable difference in contrast. You can see the attachments if you want to.

Here is what i found from testing the device for 4K HDR videos
the device can and will play 4K H265 10bit and even HDR videos but there are things that need to be done to play perfectly
first you need to check for the containers to be mkv or mp4
second using sony app will not allow to play surround sound file like dts, ac3, AAC 5.1 or AAC 7.1
third which i think is very odd and stupid from sony is that how such a powerful device can't play mkv with AAC sound track no matter what stereo or surround.
The trick for this to use software where they can switch container without the need for converting the whole file from mkv to mp4.
Hi everyone,
I have to also agree with @Liltman and say that the MX Player does play video content in 4k however there is a very noticeable difference between the stock Sony album player and the MX player.
Sadly the Sony video player doesn't support truehd aac files so the video will play flawlessly without the sound :crying:
The MX Player on the other hand WILL play the sound but the quality of the video seems to take a small hit as it's not as vibrant as the Sony album player. This is because MX Player supports 4k but not HDR
I hope that Sony added codecs to make TrueHD sound files compatible with the Sony gallery player on Oreo but I am not very confident about that.
I would appreciate it if someone can find a way around this annoying issue. What software is @HYPER-RX referring to?
Thanks!
Try VLC guys. When I played an HDR video in VLC it tried to force my brightness to max like YouTube does. However, it had to ask for som system write permission to do it and it didnt work completely. See if VLC does a better job though I found it to be pretty good.
MX Player definitely does support HDR. You can tell because in HDR videos, if you try taking a screenshot, the screenshot will simply come out as black, whereas in SDR videos, you'll get a normal screenshot.

Hi I just tried VLC and you was spot on. I can see that it actually does support HDR however I'm still having audio issues with the sound. Especially the HEVC Atmos 7.1. Do I need to download a codec pack or something?
It's a shame because the video quality is incredible!
Working perfectly
