[Q] location detection problems (n8010) - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Being on holiday i noticed that several location-based things aren't working.
What does work: google now, google maps, locus pro. These apps have no problem with detecting where i am, without using gps, cell towers, But only wifi.
What does not work: c:geo keeps telling me i'm at an unknown address, nearby caches are those at my home address. A tasker-profile i made for wheather conditions is also using my normal home location, getlocation task doesn't do a thing.
It seems to me that locus is using google for location detection, and cgeo and tasker are using 'something' else. The cgeo faqs say its using google for address retrieval, but i don't understand why it's not updating, and the other apps are... same goes for tasker which isn't updating the locations... oh, turning on gps and wait for a fix doesn't help either...
Any ideas?
Tyvm

Bump and little addition: i installed the weather underground app and wundermap.
The location detected by the app, is my home location, not the none i'm currently at, and thus having the same problem.
BUT the location detected by the wundermap app is the location i'm actually at at this moment.
I'm totally lost here... :s

[Q] Google maps question.

For some odd reason my location can never be found. In latitude I have set it manually,as well as automatically using settings and it throws the same error each time. I am running the latest version of maps, so I know it can pull my location from wifi.
Is there a setting I missed somewhere else in the system? It stuck at 1 point but the first time I tried directions, it lost my location on the map.
Any input? is it a bug or just not working w/o GPS?
any help would be appreciated.
The WiFi location doesn't work for some reason -- so GMaps wants to default back to GPS (which the GTablet doesn't have)
Download "Location Spoofer v1.7" or "My Fake Location" from the Market (sometimes they don't show up -- but I posted the APK for Location Spoofer 1.7 in another thread about Google Maps so grab it there if you need it)
I did manage to get my location locked by using latitude from the PC, using IP location look-up. Now my location shows up on maps on the G-tab but still when I click nearest places, (gas, ATM) etc it still throws location not found.
Gonna try location spoofer now.
Ok seems like this issue is gonna go on the back burner for a while. Even running location spoofer, it still gives the message "location temporarily unavailable.
Or...it just be a plain simple issue that Montana is falling behind the times and is on Googles (we'll get around to fixing it) schedule.
It's not that I don't know where everything is in town. it would just be nice to have a functioning tool to show off.

GeoLocation not accurate on my Desire S

I would like to ask if this is a "known" issue on the desire S. Because whenever I try an app which has a geolocation feature , Ex. Facebook check in, lightbox, etc, my location and places nearby are not accurate. It's showing a location that is 8-10km off on my actual location. I'm using a wifi connection when running these applications.
I tested my brother's galaxy tab with the same application, and to my surprise, the location shows exactly where I am and places nearby are also displayed like coffee shops, buildings, supermarket, etc etc.

I have notice also that for the meteo location the accuracy is not perfect.
On my hd mini the city is correct but with the desire s it shows the town that is 5 - 10 km near where I 'm.
Try running GPS Fix first, get a fix and then run those apps again.
After updating google maps, my location now shows that I'm in China! wtf? It's really waaay ooff now, I'm currently in the Philippines. :/
try to move to china

I noticed my satnav putting me beneath the road very often. I used GPS Status to look at the gps details. Then a saw that it had a faulttolerance of between 30 and 150 mtrs. So I am not speaking kilometers ;-) but after letting GPSFix get a fix the problem disappeared, and now I am getting a failt tolerance of between 3 and 8 meters. (location the Netherlands). So GPS Fix somehow helps, I understood it has to do with loading a-gps data?

GPS doesn't work in Google Maps - but is okay in Navigation

I've got a problem. When I open Google Maps it doesn't seem to activate my GPS so my location is decided by the operator-network and/or wifi, and is not very precise. I've tried to keep Google Maps open for a long time but my location is never that precise as when the GPS is activated. Also if I log into Android Device Manager on the web, I only get a location with an accuracy of 1.5-2 kilometres so that's neither located by GPS.
But if I then enter a route in Google Maps and use the Navigation, the GPS is turned on and everything is fine. It's the same if I use Sygic GPS Navigation. I've got Avast Anti-Theft installed on my phone and if I log into avast.com and send a location command to my phone, it's also located by GPS with an accuracy of 5 metres.
I've installed 'GPS Status & Toolbox' and set the app to show an icon in my navigation bar when the GPS is used. And it's the same as described above - when Google Maps is open there's no icon but when I use Navigation the icon it's there.
I'm pretty sure that on my last phone (Samsung Galaxy S II) with Android 4.4.2 Google Maps also used the GPS and I've got a precise location every time, so my question is how to get it in the same way on my new phone (Sony Xperia Z1) with Android 4.4.4? There are many times I just want to see on Google Maps exactly where I am without using the Navigation directions to a specific location.

Have either of you guys tried clearing app data and see if that works? Every once in a while I get that to resolve my issues.

i don't know about the gps not turning on at all, but it is a somewhat known bug on googles end when wifi is used to help location services, it frequently causes accuracy issues.
try turning off your wifi and see how it acts.
Yeah, off wifi it's more accurate. But yes, rooter, just cleared my app data and that did the trick, thanks.

[Q] Some apps show my correct location, some apps show me a few miles away

Hi,
This started happening a few days ago. I haven't made any changes to my phone, haven't dropped the phone etc., in the last few weeks. Rooted Nexus 5, stock android 5.1.
Google Maps and GasBuddy show my current location, incorrectly, at a spot located a few miles from me. I haven't been in that area in a long time.
MapQuest and Waze show my correct location, and so does the "GPS Status & Toolbox" app which shows my correct GPS coordinates.
If I set my Location settings mode to "Device only" (use gps to determine your location) then Google Maps and Gas Buddy time out 'waiting for location', it seems that they can't access some part of the GPS functionality. MapQuest and Waze aren't affected by the Location mode, they work the same no matter what the setting is.
Also, I have deleted and re-downloaded my "AGPS" data.
does this sound familiar to anyone, any suggestions?

Waze GPS issues

Hello,
after two days of good GPS working, today I had an issue. After setting up destination in Waze, it showed a message "GPS cannot connect" or similar. I restarted the phone but it was the same. I let the Waze run for 10 minutes, but nothing changed.
Then I started Google Maps. There was no GPS connection neither, but after couple of minutes it started to work. And then I was able also use the Waze as well.
Do you know guys what is the issue?
Thank a lot.
Sounds like an agps (assisted GPS) issue. Periodically most phones download a table of satellite locations to speed up getting a lock. Otherwise it can take some minutes and some apps don't seem to cause a proper initialization. There is often a system setting to also allow WiFi scanning to speed up a lock. This uses access point locations to get a quick fix using Google's database of WiFi locations. Lastly the phone can use cell tower locations also looked up from a database. If you've ever tried to get a lock while on an airplane, you will see this effect.
I'm short though, if the GPS ever gets stuck, there is a good app called GPS test from chartcross that always kick starts it again for me.

I don't know what the root cause is or the fix but I am able to use a free app called gps locker which locks gps then while running Waze I have few if any issues. It's also nice as it let's you create a shortcut for your home screen that you can tap, which launches gps locker , locks gps location, then auto launches Waze. Super handy. See attached.
Is anyone else having major GPS issues. Waze and Google Maps is having issues acquiring a GPS signal. I tried GPS lock but that doesn't seem to solve the problem for me either. It seems to work sometimes and gets a signal pretty quickly but other times it doesn't work at all. It's very frustrating.
Seems like Waze might be the issue.
I saw another post on t mobile support that suggested removing Waze clearing cache and restarting. This worked like a champ for me
Google maps works perfectly again. GPS locks immediately like it should.
