[Q] Bluetooth handsfree autoanswer in car One XL - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I picked up a HTC One XL for my parents to replace an aging 5 year old Nokia candy bar that could autoanswer after a couple of rings while you drive (2009 honda accord factory bluetooth) There seems to be no autoanswer option in the standard factory firmware, HTC Taiwan have confirmed this. Does the Cyanogen 10.1 or 10.2 mod enable this as an option? Or does the One XL remain a psuedo dumb phone? Cheers Monty

There are apps on the Play Store that can accomplish that.

they don't do what they promise to

Thanks for the reply, but no they don't, I have installed 10 different ones that promise the world and deliver nothing as far as enabling a function that HTC has left off.

do any of the moderators have any ideas?
Hi all, does anyone, Moderators have any idea if CM10.1 or 10.2 enables\supports the BT handsfree in car "autoanswer" function for the HTC One XL?
This is so disappointing for a smart phone.
Please don't tell me there are apps that do this because I cannot find any after an exhaustive search, HTC confirmed by email its NOT part of the current software on the phone. HELPPPPPPPPPP.

I doubt anyone is using an autoanswer mode. It certainly is a fringe feature few would use.

I just use a bt headset in the car. Easier to push a button in my ear than accidentally auto-answer the phone for relatives I don't want to talk to lol. Can't say I would see a real use for that... just my opinion though.

I feel the same way. Auto answer can lead to some embarrasing situations.

Headphone Control...?

For anyone with a Senation already.
If anyone could be bothered...
Just wondering if a Headphone Controller app will work with the Sensation..??
I really want to get the iPhone version of the Sennheiser Headphones (PMX 680i Sports) which has the 4 ring controller along with Vol/Next Trk/etc and was wondering if this app works on the Sensation to allow that type of control.
(I think the HTC supplied phones have controls, but want better sound)
Really would like to know before diving in to the device. It would be great know if anyone has the knowledge or wants to try it out....
Cheers to all.
unfortuantly i do not have a wired headset with any button controls to test foe you. But i do use a couple of bluetooth headsets and the AVRCP is fully supported.
Not exactly what your after but may be of some interest to you
I have old Koss wired phones w/ controler i used with ipod and it doesnt work ... as for sennheiser, the bundled hs which came with my previous phone the HTC HD mini was from sennheiser so maybe even that one comming with sensation is

As of this moment, I can only confirm that the Play/Pause button on headphones designed for iPhone works normally on the Sensation without having to use Christoph Kober's Headset Button Controller app (which is really, really awesome in case anyone is wondering).
This is in contrast to, for example, the Nexus S I had before which would not properly recognize any button inputs at all. I had to use the controller app to get music working on that phone.
I'll reinstall the Headset Button Controller app and test it out with my girlfriend's iPhone earbuds tonight, and I'll get back to you once I confirm whether or not it reads the Volume Up and/or Volume Down buttons. I have the sneaking feeling that it won't, but hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised :]
Thx sosquidtaste
I really appreciate your effort.
There are a ton of really good headphones out there sold as iPhone capable with controllers that woud be great to be able to use them (working) on the Sensation. I can understand why they are marketed to the iphone folks, but it seems they miss a big chunk of the market by not working with other devices..
(I like the Sennheisers because they go around the back of your neck as one unit - not a big fan of bud style)
So, here's hoping!
Cheers

Sorry mate-- I just checked in the app's debug mode and confirmed that the Sensation still doesn't recognize anything but the center button on earbuds designed for iPhones. It was worth a shot!

Bugger...!
Appreciate the effort. I wonder why this is such an 'out there' thing? To me at least, it would seem logical for the OS to support something so, well, basic as headphone control. Wonder why there has been no 'universal format' for this type of thing.
....sigh.

Glad to help-- I was pretty curious about this too, given just how well the center button behaved even without the headset controller app. I just wish it turned up more encouraging results.
Competing platforms are great for the most part, except when small but important features get shot up in the crossfire ;(

Just curious, can this be changed when this bugger gets Rooted or S-Off or whatever the heck is done with the locks come off this thing..?
Cheers
As I understand it, the control issue is related to specific hardware configurations in the headphone port of our phones so not even the most righteous of hacks will enable them to read input that they aren't wired to receive ;(
I'm no engineer though, so I'd be happy to be contradicted by someone in the know

Interesting...
So why I wonder, does the HTC specific Headphones work?
Do they use a different set of rules/hardware/ whatever...?
Curious.
Cheers to all.

Skype sound output problem

All the Skype video calls I was making used to be outputting their sound over the phone speakers. Recently, however, this seems to have changed. The sound is now only outputted via the earpiece, and I do not seem to be able to find the cause of the change, nor how to change it back. There is no speaker toggle button. Makes the video calling fairly cumbersome, since I have to put on the headphones (or Bluetooth), and cannot have a couple of people take part in the call at my end. The recent upgrade (2.5) did not correct the problem. What is annoying is that it was working OK before. I am just not sure before what. Any ideas anybody? Android 2.3.4 (stock HTC/T-Mobile), Skype is most recent stock version.

try viber.
I just used this like 2hrs ago, Toggle the mic button. I thinks it's a red icon, I've had this problem before. If not then try clearing the data. Let's us know.
Switching to another tool (viber) is not an option - it would take me less time to re-code Skype from scratch myself than to get my parents on a different program.
This is still an issue. The only way I am able to work around it is to quickly plug in my earphones and the unplug them. That seems to force skype to switch to the speaker away from the earpiece. I guess I'll have to deal with this until a future version takes care of it (hopefully).

Hidden new feature in Sense 4

Hey everybody,
this is my first thread so if I am doing anything wrong, even if it's just spelling , please tell me, so I can do it better next time.
And now let's get to that story.
Apperently some guy in china has found a new and hidden feature Sense 4, or at least in the ONE serious. What it is, is that you can take a picture in the photo app by pushing a buttom on your bluetooth headset. Just like a remote camera shutter. It seems to be working with a varriety of different headsets and with a varriety of buttom combinations.
Now I was wondering if by any chance, accidental or not, this feature might already be working on all the nice Sense 4 roms we already have. I know that bluetooth isn't working properly so far, but just maybe it already works.
Anyway, I am calling out to whoever has a bluetooth headset and Sense 4 to try it out
If it works please, please report!
Here is the youtube video of the guy doing it:
http://youtu.be/FcOv2F3JjGk

And here is the reference article on androidcentral
http://admin.androidcentral.com/use-your-bluetooth-headset-remote-camera-shutter-htc-one-series
Edit: For some reason I can't get the youtube video to work, so here is the direct link
http://youtu.be/FcOv2F3JjGk
Oh and somebody might wonna inform the sense 4 devs like shinzlon about this
Btw. I tried it with a jawbone Jambox and that did not work. Apart from that I only have another motorola headset, which apparently do not work at all.
Again Motorola headsets do not seem work
... but If you have one just try it, you never know what might happen
Awesome

This is some good news mate!
I have an old nokia bluetooth headset. Will try when I find it and get back with the results.
It works for me. Nokia BT hands free BH-200 On Elegancia 2.2.0 .
It takes pictures by double klicking the key on hands free.
Edit: log-press also works.

Ok, it seemed a bit unreal to me but it did in fact work. I used a Sony DR-BT10CX headset with my Sensation (Ordroid 9.0 rom Sense 4). Long press on the call/hang up key while the camera app is open and it made a picture.
Good find.

What's not to like, it makes the timer obsolete, you just hold the Bluetooth device in your hand and click to take a picture with a group or something

[Q] HTC One S and Copilot

Hi
I just wondering about buying htc one s.
But i have two questions :
- does it work with copilot ( Offline Gps ) ?
And if you wanna answer to this question too :
- would you have prefer wait and buy the x one ?
Thank you so much
=> on their website, they say it is, but i'm looking for someone who already did it (you can test free version of copilot as well, but shutdown data and wifi)
I don't see why CoPilot shouldn't work. I have it on my N1 and tablet.
I'll install it on the One S tonight and post back.
I asked it, because at beginning i saw sony xperia s , but it doesn't appear on copilot website http://copilotlive.com/uk/personal/android.asp, clique on "Is your phone/tablet compatible?" on the right.
So the xperia s isn't listed, so i look about the htc one s (which is in the list)
maybe i'm too hurried, but what was the result ?
I just bought it.
I'll have it on wednesday, i'll tell you.
I hope i'll not be disapointed, by this phone with/without this app.

Yes. I have Co-pilot and it works fine.
Sorry I didn't get back to this thread.
Yes it work as posted already by ascot17 already.
works fine but is totally useless on the one s as the speaker volume is so low its unusable in a car. Or at least in mine and my friends instance.

Agreed that the speaker volume is not great. I find it better using Co-pilot however than Google Navigation which is even quieter!
I can't work it out as my cheap 50 pound android phone is louder

Hi
Thank you all for your responses.
The sound doesn't matter for me, because i always mute it (i just take a look sometimes to see my way ; exept when I use the speed alert).
Sad to see that this phone already has a bad point.

Speaker replacement?

Just wondering but since I got my N5 and GF got Moto X on Monday, I can really tell the difference in speaker quality between the two and I use my phone to play music quite a bit. Has anyone just replaced the speaker in the phone? Is it even possible to purchase the tiny phone speakers separately?

OK, so you point me to an old thread that has no real information besides a few people saying they haven't tried it. Thanks.:good:
Your best bet is a pair of external speakers IMO. Otherwise software mods can push the built-in a bit further.

I was afraid of that. After watching a few teardown videos, it doesn't look like just any other cell phone speaker would fit. Seems like a proprietary setup.

If your willing to root your phone then install Viper4Android. No need for any other change. Check out the dedicated N5 and Viper4Android thread in this forums themes and apps section. The difference will be stunning for speakers, earplugs and bluetooth.

2) It shows what the search function exists for
3) It gives you the same answers you would get if you asked (as this thread proves!)
