[Q] Can't get all files copied over from internal phone memory to my computer - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi Everyone,
My wife owns an HTC One XL (Telstra) phone which has many very important photos on it (particularly photos of the birth of our 3rd child). Normally I systematically backup all files from my wife's phones. However in this particular instance I am running into some difficulties. I have the HTC Sync program installed (on a Windows 7 64 bit computer) - and when I look at the number of photos on the device through the Sync Manager the number reported does not agree with Windows Explorer.
HTC Sync reports approximately 700 photos, whereas Windows Explorer reports around 1300!
Furthermore when I simply use Windows Explorer to copy the files from the phone over to a folder on my computer not all photos are copied across. I can then subsequently delete the files from my computer and re-copy (from the phone) over to my computer, and strangely enough a different number of files copy over successfully each time!!!
In all instances when I perform the copy operation Windows reports that copying will take about 15 minutes, and then depending on the "mood" the copy process will cease after 20 seconds, or 1 minute, or some other random time.
If anybody knows how to reliably copy all the photos on this phone to a computer can you please shed some light?
Kind Regards,
Davo

I'm guessing it's on Jellybean 4.1, so when you mount it's in the stupid MTP format.
Is the phone rooted? If it is, you could mount usb storage in recovery, which uses mass storage format, and should be easier.
Sent from my Evita

Recovery uses the same as the ROM for me. So if I use a sense jb brom recovery is also mtp but if I use aosp its mass storage.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Hmm ok, if I have a sense ROM booted I can't transfer files to/from my ps3, but if I mount in recovery it works just fine. So I had assumed it was using mass storage. I've also read that somewhere. Might warrant some further investigation.

The answer!!!
Hi Everyone,
To the best of my knowledge my wife's phone runs on Ice Cream Sandwich - and it definitely isn't rooted.
All this being said I found a solution!
1). Download and install My Mobiler for Android
2). Right click on the My Mobiler icon (in the taskbar) and select Device
My Mobiler - Select Device
3). Select Install from the Device menu
My Mobiler - Select Install
4). On your mobile you will need to grant permission for the App to install
! Once installed the My Mobiler App icon will appear in the top left hand corner of the screen on your mobile, and you will see this screen...
My Mobiler "Start Screen"
5). Select Mobile Explorer from the My Mobiler menu on your computer (same screen shot as in point 2).
! The Mobile Explorer Window will then be presented as shown below -
My Mobiler - Mobile Explorer
6). Transfer your files to your hearts content
7). Disconnect your phone, and exit both the Windows program and the App (through your phone's task manager)
I hope that this helps others who may be in a similar position.
Kind Regards,
Davo
As a side note I have never been able to get the "remote control" aspect of this software going - the screen is always jumpy!!!

copying side apps from windows phone

Hi,
I had deployed an application on my phone, unfortunately my hdd crashed and all source was lost. There is hope to recover the source if I can copy the deployed app from my hd7. Any bright ideas?
- make your phone visible in Windows Explorer as Zune device;
- using TouchExplorer, copy your dll to documents/pictures (you need to experiment), then copy from Zune drive to PC;
- use Reflector to restore your source code;

Is touchxplorer safe to use? Does it change modes on the phone to get file system access?
I did rather not use apps like dfrouter...
Yes, it's safe. You can revert everything back.
great app! to my surprise I was able to find all the install dlls for my app. To recover I just renamed them to txt which made the phone think its an office doc thus enabling the email option.
no need to mess with registry settings to turn phone into usb disk.
I"m using wpdm to transfer side apps ringtone to my hd7.

Transferring files between PC and HTC Inspire 4G

I am curious to know what ways you members here go about doing this: transferring files to and from the phone to the computer and vice versa.
The only way I've discovered right now is to use the SwiFTP Android app which sets up an FTP Server on the phone using your home network, and then I setup a network location in Windows 7 using the provided address from SwiFTP.
You talking wired or wireless?
Wirelessly.
Although I'm open to hearing how everyone else transfers their files. I wanted to basically do it wirelessly to avoid the constant wear and tear of either a) using the usb cable on the phone, or b) removing the microSD card time and time again wearing down the contact points.
Dropbox. Nuff said.

Absolutely...Dropbox is the best!
ES File Explorer. You can transfer files directly, manage your SD card, use Bluetooth, FTP servers and even setup your Dropbox. It's quite handy.
Sent to a tower near you using Cleardroid and XDA app.
WiFi File Explorer works really well also.
I like Box. I like their interface a lot better than Dropbox and until 3/23, Android users get 50 GB free for life. They do limit upload size to 100 MB, but for stuff I upload, it's fine.
That said, I use both.
I use WiFi File Explorer if I'm working primarily on my computer and want to send something to my phone. Now that ES File Explorer fixed the SMB password issue, I'll use it if I'm in a different room than my computer and want to grab a file.
Airdroid is rather nice for the limited wireless file stuff I do.
It is also nice for managing contacts OR sending text messages (or getting them) and what not without having to constantly pick up your phone)
Yes it does file management to boot
I connect my device several times every day via USB and have seen no sign of wearing it out. I wouldn't worry about that too much as they are made to last to enable charging.
I use USB transfer quite a bit.
Wirelessly I like Airdroid. I have used WiFi Explorer successfully. Box and Dropbox work very well, too. So, nothing new in my reply but there you go.
Call me old fashioned, but I like using USB and Windows Explorer. I'm pumped to see what you can do over WiFi, once I finally get it
AirDroid. So nice and easy to use
Swiftp quick ftp server setup.

I use Box.net for continuous use files. For simply moving a file Awesome Drop can't be beat. You install the app and drag and drop the file onto your web browser to transfer it via the net.
Omnia 7 contacts BACK to PC
Hi ;
Trying to find a relative thread .... think this one is close ?? -
1. I am no techno genius ; have aquired an Omnia 7/windows phone only as my daughter told me I should get one !
2. Recently had to reinstall windows on the home PC.
3. I have all my contacts/email address's on my Omnia 7 -
4. Have lost the majority of those email address's from my PC windows live contacts/address's.
5. Have installed both KIES and also ZUNE on my home computer/pc
6. Although I can find a path to send contact list from PC to my phone on KIES,
I can not find a way to do the reverse ?
So ... what is the best/simplest way for me to transfer all the contacts, or particularly their email address's,
from my OMNIA 7 back into my list of Windows live contacts on my PC -
thanks.

This is the forum for the HTC Inspire 4G, an Android phone. You should ask on a Windows forum for your phone.

I used to use SMB (Samba Filesharing) but I switched to airdroid. The best app ever in my opinion as you can not only transfer but send sms, install apps and a lot more. You should give it a try

[Q] Files not transferring

Tablet shows up as storage drive but will not allow drag and drop. At least not completely.
If I drag over and drop a folder onto the tablet, only the folder and any folders inside the folder will transfer. Nothing inside the folders will move, so it just stalls out.
I've also installed Kies, and get the same results. I'm clueless at this point. What should I look for now?
Calibre won't upload books either and gives no errors.

Windows 7, 8013, 4.1.2
Files: epub, mobi, .jpg, .opf etc.
Nothing will transfer. Nothing from Calibre, Kies or drag and drop. Yet all those applications successfully connect to the device.
I can make new folders on the tablet but that's it.
Calibre just popped up an error that says it can't communicate with the device. Which seems odd, as it shows connected status.

In Calibre does the note 10.1 show up on the top icon bar as a black icon labeled "device"
If so right click on it and then click on "configure this device" you will need to tell calibre what kind of files you want to transfer to the tablet like pdf, epub, mobi. Then you need to choose what folders you want to transfer your book files to on your tablet.
If you can not see the black tablet labeled device make sure that your usb is set to "connect as a media device (mtp)" and not set to "camera (ptp)"
Oh..... can you see the tablet in Windows explorer.... it should be the last item in Computer, it will be after all or your hard drives and cd drives. It should be listed as "GT-N8013"
Let me know what you see so we can continue.

Black icon, check!
Right click to configure, fail.
It gives an error because it's running a job. The job runs infinitely because it's trying to get the list of books on the device but it can't see it, apparently. Yet as I said before, it does connect to it =\
Yes the Note shows as a storage devise in Windows. But drag and drop will not work.

Not rooted yet. I just got the Note yesterday and I want to get a feel for stock first.
I'll look into AirDroid, thanks for the tip.
I've just started using DropBox and moved a few books. I just wish I could take them out of DropBox and put them on my device =\

Your drag and drop issue is on your windows7 computer correct? In the past I had drag and drop issues with some apps on my win7 computer and I had to do a reinstall of the OS to fix my issue.
.
Today I plugged it into another computer, it recognized right away. Open it, drag and drop a file boom, it copies.
Go back to my machine toss Ubuntu on for dual boot. It recognizes it no problem. Open it, drag n drop a file, no go.
Seems like some kind of hardware issue.

If you have a home WIFI system, you might consider installing a file manager like ES File Explorer that supports SMB. You don't have to be rooted to do it and once you input your home network settings you can transfer files wirelessly. It's much more reliable than Samsung's Kies software.

I use DropBox and ES File Explorer but that doesn't solve my issue of needing direct access via USB cable.
And besides that, broke things need fixed
Why do you use Kies?
Opens up on my PC like 2 removable discs... Tablet and card. Drag and drop files I want to copy...
Solved the problem. Bought a Mac, installed Android File Transfer, awesome ensued. PC is now a curb ornament.

Dont want to turn on a mac vs windows war here but whats the deal ????.. you dont need any software to connect to windows
Obviously USB mass storage does not work in mac or windows..
(I use both and each has there own advantages )
Edit : did not read the full thread.. Guess its just a driver issue... I can say -" windows suck with drivers " . Love mac for that

There is some major bull****tery with Windows, my hardware and my GN 10.1
It connects, pops up as a drive and file transfers work on two other Win7 boxes. I did everything imaginable to get it to transfer on my ex main pc. It would show up as a drive, I could click it and see all the files but when trying to transfer files, it was a no go. It would try. A window would pop up and the progress bar would show but then stop and not transfer anything.

Android 6.0 SDCard info Internal vs External Formats. Pros vs Cons. Solutions Fix.

Just to clarify a few things.
- INTERNAL FORMAT.
- will turn your old internal sdcard storage space into regular internal storage space. (meaning it will not show up as an sdcard anymore but will still be available for the phone to use as regular internal storage)
- will encrypt your sdcard. (meaning it will no longer work on other devices) (this sux because ppl use it for backup but i have a fix)
- your new sdcard will appear as an internal sdcard (replacing the default one created using internal storage)(this means it's automatically used and supported by all apps, not just those with custom sdcard settings)
- EXTERNAL FORMAT.
- will function much like sdcard did in android 5.0.
- some builds are experiencing write permission errors. (cm13 for example most apps won't be able to use external card making it almost useless)(es file explorer and many root apps may still work.
If I missed any of the main functionally changes please let me know and i'll update accordingly.
- Solution to the "I want a backup for my data in case my phone breaks, but i like the idea of the internal storage feature."
- The solution i've come up with is a handly little app called syncme wireless.
- Steps to setup SyncMe Wireless to regularly backup your sdcard data onto a PC. (you can also use cloud devices but i am opposed to cloud services so i'll be showing this method here)
- Since i think windows is most popular and it's what i'm on i'll use it as an example. There are many exhaustive file sharing guides for setting up your permissions for network share on the internet available already so I will not be exhaustive, i'll just include basic setup instructions.
1. create a folder you can access easily, the desktop is a good place for it if you don't have administrator rights.
2. right click the folder click share with - > specific people. (if sharing is disabled enable it)
3. make sure you have read and write access. (the windows account you have the password to)
4. once folder is shared install syncme wireless on android device.
5. on windows device push windows key + r at the same time or go to start menu and click run.
6. type cmd and ok.
7. in command prompt type ipconfig.
8. make a note of your computers IP address. (it's ok if your dchp server changes your ips and it's not static syncme will take a note of your mac address and use that to identify your pc in the future after first connect)
9. open syncme wireless on your android device.
10. click ad computer.
11. your computer may show up automatically, if not click the menu icon and click add computer again, here you can manually add your computers ip address. (this is because some routers block scanning)
12. Click on User and type your WINDOWS LOGIN USERNAME that has permission to access the files on your pc.
13. click password and type your WINDOWS LOGIN PASSWORD that applies to the username you used.
14. once your computer is setup the rest is pretty self explanatory, click on the setup computer to add a sync folder, you can sync everything or just specific folders. You can set it to run at night when you're sleeping every night so you always have an sdcard backup on your computer, and if something happens to your phone you can reformat your card and copy the files back.
15. you can manually run folder pairs as well by clicking the folder pair and clicking run. I use this to send files to my phone over wifi, just add files to a folder that is setup in a pair, then run that folder pair sync, and the files will show up on your phone without having to plug in cables.
any suggestions or requests for help i'll try to add and respond to asap but I am not on here every day. Just wanted to help people solve the issue i had with cm 13 so more people can get into using it as a daily driver and support its development.

Question Transfer music over USB closes file explorer

I am trying to copy a large amout of music to the internal storage of my S22 Ultra with a USB-C to C 3.1 Gen 2 cable on Windows 11 (also tried another PC with 10). When I paste the files into the Music folder, the transfer starts like normal but then file explorer just closes and the computer makes a sound like the phone has been disconnected. I've managed to get it to work in the past by transfering much smaller amounts of files but I don't see why large volumes do this. Am I missing something? I takes so long to manually select these files I just want to do it all at once.

The problem is most likely with the USB port on your laptop. Otherwise, try using another cable.
If you have power saving enabled for your USB ports on your laptop, try disabling it and see if that helps.
Try in safe mode using Samsung's My files.
If that works try in normal mode.
Try toggling Developer options temporarily off.
Bad cable or port.
Incorrect Windows driver.
Check Windows Event Viewer for error messages.
On my N10+'s I transfer 240+gb a shot with no issues... however if the PC 'hiccups' it will drop the transfer. Occasionally I see that happen.
Don't run other programs or use during transfers and mind the power settings/states of both devices, adjust as needed for transfers.
My OTG flashsticks generally do better.
Always verify data size and file number after transfer and... readability.
This isn't a device or laptop problem.
I had this many times on all my devices.
Check the file names.
For example my file transfer on any android phone crashes/stops with errors if the file name is something like
LitOldschoolHipHopMixtape .mp3 - Has space between name and file extension
or
LitMixtape '90s Style.mp3 - has ' in the name
or
⛥Dxrk ダーク - RAVE⛥.flac - emoji/text symbol
or
Ночной дрифт 藤原 car music collection.aiff - multi language name
Checking the file names would be the first step to do if you experience such issues.
If you are connected with PC/Laptop and Phone to same network, try with this app here
On Windows you go to file explorer (if on Windows 7 or earlier, use FileZilla), right click on This PC, add a network location, on the address bar type ftp:// and your ip address. For example ftp://127.0.0.1:8080

Yeah... I never allow anything other than plain text in file or folder names.
If needed I edit them when they're downloaded.
The KISS principle applies here.
All media files especially downloads are always kept in their own separate folder if added to the database. That can provide an extra security layer that will stop some malicious scripts if they get into the main folder. One scripted jpeg will make a believer out of you

I've run into this issue too when copying my music collection (about 180GB). I think it is because of the amount of data you are copying. I ended up copying smaller chunks at a time. Usually around 10 to 15 GB of data at a time.
I narrowed it down to specific files and changed the file names. Thanks @MichalPlays
