Check HBoot Version via Fastboot? - HTC Sensation

Hi everyone,
My Sensation has the issue with the screen where it just displays static rather than an image. It strangely outputs onto HDMI though, I have backed everything up thanks to that and am now ready to return it to stock so that I can get it repaired under warranty. I have done this process a few times before, I know that once you've flashed stock or whatever you can check whether it is s-on or s-off but can you check the Hboot version via Fastboot somehow? I wouldn't want to restore everything for it to turn up with the JBEAR HBoot s-on'd lol. As you can tell I can't actually see my hboot screen.
Many Thanks.

fastboot getvar all
use this command from cmd window
you will see also your current hboot version
edit:restoring a nandroid(if it is that you mean) won't change the hboot version nor the S-ON or S-OFF
if you used a ruu.exe then you have the official hboot version

This should tell your hboot version. It's also on bootloader screen.

The best way to return to stock is to flash a stock hboot (only if you changed your hboot. Junoputbrear soff changes hboot), then lock bootloader, do not s on yet. Flash a ruu and un supercid. Then s on.
JAM THAT THANKS BUTTON.
Happy to help.

Thanks guys, like I said I'm aware of the s-on procedure just needed to know how to see the bootloader information, that fastboot command was so useful. Restored it and it's on it's way to HTC now. Hopefully they can fix the display issue.

[Q] can't boot into system

My problem is a little complicated.
It dates back to last night. Suddenly i just want to try ICS so i download the firmware and rom from this thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408351). I met with a problem, after i flash the firmware, the system stuck but i pulled the battery out then problem solved. The next step is just as usual and nothing unusual happened. It's not so smooth and perfect as CM7, which i think it's just a problem of maturity.
After i restore the apps and finish setting the phone, i check the bootloader and find that the bootloader shows it's locked. There wouldn't be a problem if i just accept that. But i decided to do something, unfortunately, i messed up.
The bootloader shows "locked" and "Security warning" and the phone can't boot into system by any means. I tried a lot of methods and finally i unlock the bootloader by official method. Result seems to be good. The bootloader shows "unlock" but "s on" and the phone can boot into recovery. It seems i just wake up from a nightmare.
but the nightmare never ends. Although i can wipe or install any rom, but the phone just stuck at the splash screen. I tried but i faild. Is there anyone has some suggestions? And how to s off?
The hboot version is 1.23.0000 and it doesn't install any PG58IMG files no matter it is radios or else.
Thank you in advance
You need to Soff again.
Its normall for the latest firmware hboot 1.23 to show locked. Its not really locked

Could you tell me how to s off please? Or downgrade the hboot? It seems that hboot 1.23 isn't supported by revolutionary?

I have read the thread, if relotionary is the only way to s off, i don't think it help because it requires hboot is under 1.18, but the hboot of my phone is 1.23, is not in the supported list. Besides, my phone can't boot into system, the revolutionary is always waiting for device
Revert to 1.17 and S-off using revolutionary
I hope it is possible, don't know exactly what is possible to be flashed with s-on, but since your phone is unlocked you can use fastboot commands, so I think it wont be a problem.

In this thread, it mentions that how to revert to 1.17(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20681060&postcount=22), on the condition that the hboot is 1.20,but my hboot is 1.23. I'm trying the zip from the thread, hope it works
It remains usless. The bootloaders shows "PG58IMG.zip" is a wrong image.
My Sensation XE came with HBoot 1.2.000, so i installed at ROM from here with HBoot 1.18.000 and then got S-OFF.

And which ruu? I tried ruu too, but it didn't work.
i know that 1.20 can be reverted to 1.17 and then s off. But my hboot is 1.23 rather than 1.20. And i have another problem: the bootloader can't update by PG58IMG.zip, it always shows no file or wrong image.

[Q] PG58IMG.zip can't be installed

My hboot version is 1.23, s-on. My phone can't install PG58IMG.zip, bootloader always shows no image or wrong image, i tried different zip file but non of them works. I know this has a close relationship with s on. But what can i do? I would appriciate if you could give me some advice.

Hi,
Were you s-off before?
What did you flash to make you s-on?
Last night I unlocked the bootloader n been having the same problem but mind say S-on n I don't know what's next
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
? im at a lost here little more detail
what did you use to unlock bootloader?
where you ever s-off?
where you rooted?
why did you flash the IMG.zip?
if you unlocked it then go to fastboot and make your CID 11111
and hopefully that will get you back on where you wanted to do?
cant give much help unless you give some details on what was your state of phoen before and what you wanted to do with it

I have similar problem, hboot 1.20, was S-OFF, flashed orig RUU ICS,changed CID to HTC___001 than I made stupid mistake and changed back to S-ON (wanted to send my phone to the shop, problems with reception and sound quality) now only ROM that my phone accepts is LeeDroid 5.01, cant change cid to supercid via fastboot some error SMART_IO.CRD not found on sdcard. Tried to flash orig RUU (1.45, 1.29, ICS etc.) error 155 when hboot is locked and error 132 signarure error when relocked. Also tried changing android-info.txt to my cid and mid no luck, tried flashing via RUU and bootloader no luck.
Any help would be appreciated

Sorry to reply so late.
Previously, my phone was eng s-off and got super cid.
After i flash ICS firmware, bootloader was then locked.
After that i did some stupid things, the bootloader turned into "locked", "security warning" and s-on. I succeeded to unlock bootloader by htcdev and get rid of "security warning", at that time i can boot into recovery normally and wipe or flash roms. But it just can't boot into system. I tried fastboot commands to flash but failed just because "it is not allowed in the remote devices".
i tried PG58IMG files but the bootloader shows no image or wrong image.
Can you give me some advice? Thank you very much

My phone had been rooted and end s-off before things happened.
i flash IMG.zip to try to flash a rom( Somebody post that ICS rom can be flash by IMG.zip) or fix the bootloader problem. It's almost the only way to flash a rom for me
I checked the cid and it is still 11111111(Got super cid before) although bootloader is s-on.
Now the state of the bootloader is
1, unlocked
2,s-on
3,cid is 11111111
4,can boot into recovery
5,can't install PG58IMG.zip
6,fastboot command can't write anyting
7,if flash some rom, phone will be stuck at the splash screen which seems splash partition is writable
Thank you!

i don't know how to do either, but during solving my problem, i found something may be useful. If you want to unlock bootloader you can try htcdev. This can't s-off but just unlock bootloader.
And since your hboot is 1.20, you can try the zip file attached by this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20681060&postcount=22.
Because my hboot is 1.23 and isn't supported according to the above link, i didn't know whether it will help or not. You can take it into consideration
Hope you can solve your problem
ok find hboot 1.17 PD58IMG.zip, your truly not s-on, format your sdcard, then place the img in sdcard, and boot into bootloader, and you should be able run fastboot commands, you should still have custom recovery right?

I format the sdcard in fat32 format and place img that revert to hboot 1.17 in sdcard. Reboot into bootloader, but it shows "no image or wrong image".
I also try fastboot command but i don't know the command format. Would you give me an example please? Just a fastboot command to install img no matter s-on or s-off. Such as "fastboot flash hboot hboot.img".
My device is now s-on.

Change CID after Unbrick

Hello Everyone,
I need to send my Sensation in for dust removal. I was running CM9, changed my CID back to BM___01 or something for bell mobility, where the phone came from. I then did the
Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
and got a brick. I unbricked successfully with the unbricking project. Kudos to the devs of that.
I now have a problem. My CID is for bell, so can't flash anything else, error in the ruu.
My hboot is 1.27 and my radio 11.22.3504.07_M, so I can't flash any of the bell ruu because of error 140 wrong bootloader. The only RUUs for bell are gingerbread with really old hboot.
I think I need to s-off and change CID to get a newer ICS RUU on here.
3 questions:
1. can I s-off without any firmware (no recovery, no rom) on the device, so no adb
2. Is there any other way to get a booting rom on here?
3. can I revert back to the gingerbread RUU using some sort of hboot downgrade, once I have something installed? (rom)
Thanks for your help.

Hmm that's a rough situation you are in.. If you can't find the ruu that would be a problem..
First try contacting football.. For ics ruu of bell.. (football provides most of the ruu's.. He is the OP of pyramid shipped rom collections thread present in sensation development section)
Try changing Cid to a well know one
Like this.. What you do is
First reboot to bootloader
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001 (supercid won't work.. So stick with this for now)
Then remove battery..
Then reinsert it. Power on to bootloader
And check Cid
fastboot getvar cid
If this worked.. Great. Find a Europe ruu and flash it
Last .. Try htc-dev unlock.. If luckily you..got unlocked bootloader..
Flash custom rom..Then SOFF..Then change back Cid..Then flash the old ruu of your Cid..Then SON
To get a working rom
Sent from my pyramid.. Through blazing fast sonic waves
For future reference; S-ON is the last thing you do when sending the phone back. RUU needs to happen before that.
The situation you're in, you're going to have to HTC Dev unlock your bootloader, and fastboot flash system and boot, possibly install a firmware PG58IMG as well... hopefully that will be enough to get the phone booting. Then you'll want to S-OFF and flash the RUU (this will also set you back to ***LOCKED***), then you can S-ON.
You guys are so helpful. I will try this.
My utmost thanks,
jcarrz1
Is HTC dev unlock reversible, and does it void my warranty even if I reverse it? does it leave any trace/can they tell?
Getting S-OFF removes all trace of it.

yep...
if you use juopunutbear soff after HTC-dev unlock ..you will get locked/juopunutbear bootloader (instead of relocked )
then RUU (to make everything stock..and to prevent wrong SON brick) and SON again ..will be complete stock
Again, I am amazed by your helpfulness.

I can't flash firmware because it says "parsing package" and then does nothing
I can't push a system.img because it says "too large"
I've tried ARHD, CM9, and stock zippified roms, and none of them boot. Probably firmware issue, but see first problem...
any tips?

ohk for firmware flash you can use this
copy the firmware zip (PG58IMG.zip) to the adb/fastboot folder
open command prompt from adb/fastboot
then these commands one by one
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU (black screen with silver HTC)
fastboot flash zip PG58IMG.zip (if failed while flashing in the middle ..be careful)
fastboot reboot-bootloader
that would flash the firmware

[Q] How to choose RUU?

Hi guys!
I have some problem with HTC Sensation. It boots only till HTC logo. And nothing more! On this device isn't OS.
Some guys said that I need to install RUU exe file through computer. I did it but received error 130 (need other version of RUU, I think).
So can you recommend something?
S-ON, hboot 1.18.000, radio 10.14.9035.02_02
Thank you!

What exactly do you mean by "On this device isn't OS".Do you mean you haven't install some custom OS on your device or it has no OS at all.If you have erase the OS the bootloop is something natural.
I did a google search for your radio version and according to this I found answers only on some german forums. So your cid (as long as you are s-on) should be possibly a German or a European one.
You can download the latest Europe version from here and give it a try.
You can find your cid number using fastboot.Just get into fastboot mode of your hboot and give the command fastboot getvar cid.
If your bootloader is HTCDEV unlocked give the commands:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After that your hboot should say Relocked instead of Unlocked. Then install the RUU.
You could also give it S-OFF using this guide (Does not require HTCDEV unlock method):
[GUIDE] Juopunutbear S-OFF NO HTCDEV UNLOCK | ROOT (1.2x HBOOTS)
If you are S-ON you can use a RUU only with hboot 1.18 in your case

Why exactly he should use an RUU with hboot 1.18?!
I know that the version of hboot can be upgraded normally but cannot be downgraded as long as you are S-ON.If you are S-OFF you can downgrade everything. Also if you want to install an older RUU and you are S-ON you have to use a gold card and you patch the version of the misc partition to an equal or lower one for the RUU you are going to use.

Hi,
Try THIS ONE
Did you unlock your phone with HTC DEV?
If not, then , DO NOT.

[Q] A quick Q about Evita.

Hi there guys,
Not sure if any of y'all remember way-back-when, but at one point my AT&T One X went into (what seemed like) a bricked state. For 8 months, I didn't touch it, charge it, yada-yada-yada. About 2 weeks ago I decided to give it a go so I charged it for a half hour and the mo'fo' decided to work. I updated my ViperXL ROM to 4.2.0 because I enjoyed it for its features. Now I'm left to ask the question, do I have to update HBOOT to flash a JB 4.3 ROM? I'm still unsure because I feel like I remembered seeing somewhere that your HBOOT has to be a newer version to run 4.3.
Thanks and regards, worldindo1.
NOTE: My current HBOOT version is reading "1.14.002".
Yes you do need to upgrade, it's written in the install instructions for the ROMs. It isn't just the hboot you need to update though, you need to run an RUU to make sure everything gets updated.

Hey timmaaa,
So just relock bootloader, RUU file, and then unlock it again? Do you know of anyone who has just the firmware upgrade files from the RUU so I can do it from my Linux laptop? Thanks a ton, now I know I wouldn't have any problems or possibly brick my device haha.
Regards, worldindo1.
You need Windows to run an RUU properly, so you'll need to hit up friend to use their PC. You don't need to relock the bootloader as long as you get s-off first so I suggest getting s-off, it's pretty important because s-on + SuperCID + jb RUU = brick.

Howdy,
I am S-Off thankfully haha. I used XFactor back when it was still current. But I thought the main purpose of an RUU was to execute:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip (firmware).zip
Back when I had done some work with the HTC One V, we used unruu (for Linux) or on the Windows side, explored the RUU's %temp% folder to get the firmware files. Could I still issue those commands safely or have they changed how the RUU works? As well, since I'm S-Off, do I just issue all of the usual commands (minus the "fastboot oem lock") or ? Just making sure to do all of my homework before I jump in haha.
Regards, worldindo1.
Hang on, as far as I know Xfactor was a bootloader unlock exploit, that doesn't give you s-off. There's only one s-off method for our phone and that's the Facepalm method. Having an unlocked bootloader and having s-off are completely different. Can you please post your bootloader details?
Using unruu and pulling the RUU apart and flashing the firmware files is never how an RUU was supposed to be run, nor will it ever be. That's only doing a tiny portion of the job that actually running an RUU properly does. An RUU is an exe file which is meant to be run as an exe file, there is no other way to run it properly other than that. You connect your phone in fastboot mode and run the RUU in Windows and follow the prompts. Like I said though I really need to see your bootloader details (the first four lines) because I'm concerned you have s-off and bootloader unlock confused.
