Hey guys, I'm about to destroy my 3rd system partitions to make them bigger, but I'd like too keep my phone just as it is, by this I mean installed apps and configurations.. I know there are lots of ways to achieve this, but I would like to hear some different experiences with their pro's and con's so I can decide which is the most suitable for me.
Thank you!

I've seen a couple of threads on other phone forums with some suggestions in this arena and even some conflicting information about the best/safest way to back up user apps and then restore them after flashing a new ROM. Just wondering if there are agreed-upon best practices for this. I assume Titanium Backup is involved, whatever steps you take. Also, LauncherPro allows you to Backup/Restore homescreens and settings. I assume this would have me covered on custom icons/dock appearance/etc.
Basically, I have everything looking the way I like it with customized LauncherPro theming, and I like my array of apps. Now, I just want to experiment with flashing some different ROM/Radio combinations, but I want to be sure I have an efficient way to get me back to my preferred configuration, since I have put a good bit of time into getting just how I want it.
Any thoughts/links/procedures?
Good topic, I just back up all apps using Titainum backup and the full rom using CWR in case I need a working ROM loaded quickly. Back up the SD and your are ready for a full wipe if the new rom takes a ****.
Im in the same boat as you. Im using CM 7.0.3 and I dont think i could be any happier, however, despite spoiling myself right off the bat with Cyanogen I want to try some other ROM's. Im using titanium to backup apps, and app data as well as a daily CWR backup with rom manager, and ADWex backed up. If I was to flash a new ROM just how painless would and should it be? I understand each rom is different and require some tweakin on its own. I guess I would like to hear from the seasoned vets how they do it?
Hi Guys & Gals, I have a HTC7 Pro that is falling to pieces. I have purchased a new one and would like to know how i can "CLONE" the data from one phone to another. The most important data i need is sms but i cant anyway of backing up the Sms's and restoring them to the new phone
Thanks
Have you tried swapping out the sd cards?
Why is your phone falling apart? I also have this phone and I am worried by your words. Please tell me that you are a rude owner and it's your fault and that the phone hasn't fallen apart by itself.
I came here because I thought I get to see a cheap clone of a HTC 7 Pro with 1000 free Games on it.. something like that
Anyway
You can backup your sms with this little helper:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448197
But unfortunately(?) you'll need an unlock for this.
Well let's see... you might want to try this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379571
I didn't used it, yet (both of them) I just remembered it, and used the search
This one backups your complete phone, and in my mind that should include sms either..
PS: Not sure how many sms you have, but you could just write down the realy important ones. .. I used to store all the sms of my girlfriend as well, but in the end you never really read them again.. until she breaks of (furthermore I wasn't able to save every sms, since the memory on the devices was way smaller back then.. I know that my older sister used to copy her important sms into her diary, before she had to delete them to receive new ones )
So I decided to go back to cm10 (4.1) because 4.2 was giving me a headache and I like to use the Sony acid mod and it was breaking all sound functionality in all the ROMs I tried.
The problem I'm having and I'm sure others are too is addition of 0 folders created (one for every 4.2 ROM flash). Is there an easier method of getting everything back in order per 4.2 user directories than manually moving all downloads and new files created in every directory ( ROM flash)? I have 5 or 6 and each one has new downloads and crap that is annoying to say the least.
I hope I didn't confuse anyone too much. If anyone has clashed a 4.2 ROM then you'll know what I mean with the 0 folders. Its part of the new multiple users addition. Since I went back to 4.1 (cm10 12/16 love it its perfect for me) they are just an annoyance and for anyone like me who's slightly ocd this is a nightmare!!!
I created this thread because I'm sure with the growing popularity of 4.2 this question is bound to arise and we can use this as a be all end all of some sort.
Thanks and look forward to hearing any productive replies and advice. If you need me to clarify anything I'll gladly oblige upon request.
Anyone? Also having issues with titanium backup..error about backup directory even when manually locating and selecting?? Also tried multiple methods using a new app ID, restoring old one and 'ask me later' I can't restore let alone see any of my apps (list of em where you can use batch functions)
Please share some advice or solutions. Appreciate your replies and thanks again!
Kevin
Hi all
i know similar threads are always present but i havent gotten any definitive answer from them. i'm thinking of moving from nexus to One E8 because of the better camera, speaker, newer processor and little better battery. i have a lot of apps on my nexus and was wondering whether i can use helium app to backup the data from my phone to the new phone or it has a different folder structure or something. i dont want to lose all the progress i've made in different games and all my notes in different apps i've kept. will be obliged if anyone can help.

Theoretically, yes, it should work across any device.
If you have root access then Titanium Backup is better, just make sure not to restore system apps.

isnt this the defining feature of Helium pro?
I would recommend you downloading games from play store and restoring their data after that, because neither TB nor Helium backup obb
So, these two seem to be the two most well known backup apps, and I just wanted people's opinions on them. Especially since I will likely purchase the pro/full version of the one I decide to go with.
Is any particular one better if you don't have root?
What about if you do have root?
Any difference in the amount of content they can back up?
Is there anything any of them still can't backup if you have root? I am particularly interested in app settings/data (not the apks themselves, but the actual data the apps write). I assume backing up contacts, sms, and photos/videos are a given and I wouldn't even need to ask this.
Does any particular one have better features in term of storing your backup on the cloud/google drive?
What about if you need to restore the backup to a different phone?
Any other suggestions or comments about these two? Or even other backup apps?

I've never used Helium, soon can't really say much about it, other than the fact that it doesn't require root. My experience is with Titanium (TBu) only.
> Is any particular one better if you don't have root?
Helium is the only choice of the two in this case.
> Any difference in the amount of content they can back up?
Cannot speak to that, for the reason mentioned above.
> I am particularly interested in app settings/data (not the apks themselves, but the actual data the apps write).
TBu does this.
> I assume backing up contacts, sms, and photos/videos are a given and I wouldn't even need to ask this.
I would presume so.
> Does any particular one have better features in term of storing your backup on the cloud/google drive?
TBu will do this no problem.
> What about if you need to restore the backup to a different phone?
When app data is to be restored, it depends on how similar the two phones are, in terms of the ROM / firmware (fw) running on them. If the same fw is run on both, then your chances are pretty good that you could restore a backup from the other phone. But the scenario changes when the two phones are running different Roms. The same thing applies when you try to restore a backup to a device after moving to a different ROM on that device, especially if the newer fw is not just an updated version of the fw of the backed up device.

ES file manager is also capable of creating a back up of an app (no data).
