Help decide which phone i should get - General Questions and Answers

Hello!
Been using tutorials on this for a long time and they have always helped, but now i need help for choosing the phone.
I cant decide between LG 4X HD, Sony Xperia T, and HTC One s.Spec wise, the best i s 4X, however i`ve heard it has crappy os, and bad gaming perfomance (On that beast you cant play?), Xperia T looks beautiful, and camera sounds awesome..but its ''only'' dual core..and than comes the One S, and about that i dont know anything..
Im leaning towards the 4X, becouse the big screen, awesome specs, and quite good design.
But which phone i should actually get?Im my country, those 3 are going for the same price (around 370usd)..
Also, are there any phone that costs less then 400usd (I really dont want to go over that..) and that would get android 4.3 upgrade? (Dreaming about 5.0 update would by stupid in this budget, right?)

HY, lets take it like this.
HTC ONE S- pro:good design,good camera,so-so performance,screen is not that accurate
-cons:it will never be updated ,because htc said so,and battery is not that good
RESULT :if you can buy this ,you do it because of the design, camera, and you can root the thing to get sense 5
4X HD; as it says the pros are:good screen,good gaming performance,sexy design,good battery,good price
;cons: the os will never be updated, the camera sucks
result ,buy it if you like performance, but not taking pics to hot chicks
XPERIA T pro design,interface,battery
cons ,you might not like the interface,camera,etc....
result BUY THE 4X HD!!!!,AND LET THE FORCE BE WITH YOU !!,ALSO PRESS THANKS IF I HELPED

i have lg 4x... its cool but battery isnt good enough... the stock update never necessary it has CyanogenMoh 10.1 android 4.2.2 better than stock.
i think 4x is better in this list,

First, sorry for making new topic, instead of posting in device suggestion thread..somehow didnt notice it.
Aniway, for the Cyanogen mod..Wont that ruin my warranty?I`ve read in LG 4X thread that its ''official''..but is it official in Europe aswell?

If you want a good phone (not really high-end anymore at this time, but stil pretty good) and you don't want to spend more than 400 and you would like very fast Android updates (even probably 5.0), you should take a nexus 4.
I have one, and it works like a charm (except the camera, which is good enough, but nothing more than that).
The Nexus 4 has even a little higher specs than the 4X HD, but it's even cheaper than the 4X HD.
If you have any more questions, feel free to aks.

Well, ive looked at Nexus 4 previously, but in my country its ~450..funny thing is that, i can get nexus 7 tablet for 400 in the same shop.
380 already feels a lot, since most likely i will get new phone after 2 years.
And bi the way..Any of those 3 is beast in my opinion..im upgrading from Huawei sonic (3.5inch, 600mhz, 256mb ram, 256 rom, and i wouldnt say it was laggy)

really? you would suggest that?
I would suggest trying for an S4, since it still have an IR Blaster, which sometime makes it a universal remote for tv, and if you tweak it properly, it can also be an excellent remote.
However, it really up to your preferences. if you're already settled on one, just pick it instead of asking other to make the choice. it what i do.
just figure out which phone you like, what you like about it, research it, and make your decision. but if you've already decided on one, go for it.
and please, he asked opinion on the phone the OP want. not wat we should suggest which phone HE should buy.

Haha no it was a joke. I think S4 is probably the best phone out especially rooted and rom'd

Or the htc titan 2, 16mpx but only 720p recording
I quite like the Nexus, but the screen is a bit too big for a daily mobile. I've currently got a Desire HD and thats big enough for me.
I currenty carry around an iPod Touch, my Desire HD, and a work Blackberry 9780. So Iwant something to combine my phone and iPod.
I'd love to stay with Android so I'll be watching closely to see what they can come up with that has descent battery life in the next 6 months - that way I can play my music on it without worrying about having enough charge for the rest of the day.

I'm happy with my Senny right now so I'm in no rush.
on the tablet side, might pick up that new 7" Asus Tegra 3. at $249... cheap thrill.

Either HTC Rhyme or Galaxy W.

Got The same Phone!
Will do same till 3rd step.
GS2's camera(s) is/are enough for me but if the Xperia S Gets DSLR lens and Capability then I will think about it. LOL!
I would get a high end phone since it's an investment, most likely for 2-3 years
Most likely when the Galaxy Nexus drops for Sprint, I'm getting it. And while so, I'll be waiting for the Galaxy S III. Love my current GSII/E4GT, so I'm hoping the GSIII will probably bring the same performance expectancy.

Xperia s or SII (its still good)
One x is also nice, (but its a little iphone-y)...or if you can, wait for the boss sgs3...
Typed on a small touchscreen
I want the Xperia S because of its appearance..the problem is custom ROM's. It doesn't have the same amount of ROM's comparing to Note. I want the Note simply because I'm a student. You jot notes down, things like that. My problem with the note is..the sheer size of the device. Fudging thing is big. XD I can only imagine putting it in my pocket. People think I'm always "Excited". xD Performance wise, is it the same?
@Sir A.cid heeeyyy. About the One X..hmm..Have you tried testing one sir? and the SIII, auhhhh, it'll make me bankrupt. xD if you were to choose, what phone will you go for?
the HTC one X is a pretty good phone too
one of my friends has the galaxy note and i don't see anything special in it... it's just over hyped...
i really have no clue about Xperia S but I do hate Timescape
As far as SGS III is concerned, it's pretty expensive imo...

Both of them have their own pros and cons...
Sgs3 won't be more expensive than what g-note was at launch (around 38k rs, 50rs=1$ approx, do the math)...
Coz samsung knows that sgs3 failed to impress the critics (when compared to one x)...the features, though they are unique, its just a matter of time till others pick it up, since most are just software mods...
So, sgs has good battery, display, unique system mods, and easy way for flashing and stuff (no locked bootloaders or s-off, that's what's assumed from samsung's trend)
While one x has good design, looks, but it doesn't have replaceable battery and a micro sd slot...not to mention that htc's are easier to brick if you don't follow steps correctly...
So, I would say sgs3 over one x, since gs3 will be more popular with the dev community, and one x only beats it in design and looks...
Comparing note and one x, then one x obviously...note's just too big...
Typed on a small touchscreen
just check the One X forums, there's a lot of development going on over there...
No xperia love huh. XD I guess I should wait for the SGSIII and check it at the mall whenever the sgs comes out.
@Avi: Is that with the new S4 processor?
@A.Cid: I sure hope the SGSIII impresses me. The thing looks like a huge Samsung Corby. XD
It looks like a huge "fit"!
Samsung won't let you be anymore disappointed...after all its a flagship!
Hmmm, rumors are there for a quad core xperia coming, that's why no one suggested any of those single/dual core pieces of beauty (xperia looks the best )
But then, if you keep waiting for something more, you'll always keep waiting

I'm thinking of leaving Bada and buying an Android. Maybe this One S..?

Good morning.
I owned a Samsung Wave S8500 for the last two years and a Nokia E6 (one of the best phones I ever had).
After two years I feel sad because my Wave has a great hardware, but Samsung abandoned it, and the applications are still few, so I was thinking to buy an Android.
I'm searching for a phone with these features:
-support from community for a long time with ICS, JB, KLP (I would like to keep this phone for at least 2-3 years).
-good battery performance (my E6 lasts at least 2 days with data always on, so I hope that the battery will last for 1,5 days)
-I don't want a huge phone like the GNexus\SIII
So, One S owners, do you think that this phone fits for me?
Are there enough optimized roms?
Thanks a lot
I'd avoid it for now as most versions are now using the S3 chip. The S4 chip is the better version. Although a good phone wait a few months new releases will push down prices of current models.
You'll have a good choice to choose from in the last quarter of the year.

Here in Italy most of the One S are S4, and I'd bought it used because I can find it at 330 euros.
I don't want to spend 500 euros for a phone. I'd like to spend at the most 350 euros...
It's a good phone, but if you get the One S with the 1.7 GHz S3 processor, you might as well go with a Sensation and S-OFF the device for many more custom ROMs.
You could kiss your awesome Nokia battery life days good bye. I was the same (coming from the E71 though).
Android is power hungry but if you dont use your phone alot you could get a MAX of 2 days (my own experience with the one s with wifi on but not data).
If you want long term rom development, I would go for the GS3. With HTC releasing the one s with different socs it only hurt development and we don't know if the s3 soc is going to be the way forward.
I truely miss my Nokia but I don't see myself going for Windows Phone soon.

From what you have said there, the one S sounds like your best bet. It is kind of pointless buying any devices at the minute though as we should be getting a number of new nexus devices around November as well as a few other phones by HTC etc. but they will most likely cost £400+
The only other alternatives, although not as good overall, are the GS 2 and xperia S.
The developing community should be good and going strong for at least another year and still be some activity for another year. 3 years hard to say.... most people get a new phone every year or 2 and some every few months.
Even if you did get the S3 version, the one S is still good and better than most other phones, in real world usage the biggest impact would be the battery life.
As I replied in another thread comparing against the desire S and sensation XE, the same will apply when compared to the sensation and in some areas also against the GS 2 and xperia S etc., maybe just not as much of a difference in a few things i.e. the camera quality:
Terminator19 said:
Eh?
It is still far better than a desire S even with the S3/adreno 220 and better than the XE (apart from storage options and you have removable batteries with them), excluding the GPU/CPU:
- far better camera overall, absolutely no contest between them
- way better build/perceived quality and IMO design/looks (subjective this)
- better screen overall (although some might prefer LCD on the XE and DS)
- battery life will still be better anyway
- more RAM
- much better audio
- newer device and will be getting jelly bean officially before the end of the year
- also another wee plus is that you will get more money when you sell the one S rather than the desire S and XE in a few months time or a year in order to fund for a new phone
Only reason to get the DS or XE is for a removable battery and SD slot and perhaps a better developing community (no idea what it is like for them)

The XS isn't as powerful as the S4 one S either. The screen is 720P, although I personally think the overall quality of the screen regarding colours etc. is pretty poor (although that is just my opinion, most people love it). Battery life isn't great iirc. The camera is very good, better than the GS 2 iirc, although is it better than the one S overall, probably not, the 1080P capture will be better though. Essentially:
Pros of the S (S4 version):
- better camera overall
- much better CPU/GPU
- better build/perceived quality and IMO design/looks (subjective this)
- colours of the screen
- battery life
- better audio
- newer device and will be getting jelly bean officially before the end of the year
- IMO sense V4 is far better
Pros of XS:
- much much sharper screen
- better 1080P recording
- more internal storage
- NFC
- possibly getting JB, SE are very good with updates, however, they do take a long time to get them out

For the updates, I think I'll use one of the roms on this forum (but first I must understand hot to root, install a recovery and so on lol), like the ViperOneS etc. and not the stock rom.

When i bought my One S i used that tutorial to Root, install CWM and later Viper One S Rom. It's an amazing phone.
I'm not a fan of S3 version (overclock and battery don't go well together.) It's contact linking and sync capabilities i think they are better than GSIII. Fast and reliable and the tweaks make it even better.

I gave my wave to my gf as she does not use whatsapp. Pretty fine built phone, great hardware (even nowadays 1GHz single core 5 mpx cammera phones are launched) and smooth OS, but with no support.
Good evening to all.
Finally I decided to buy a One S. It will arrive on monday.
As I said before, this will be my first Android phone, so I don't know anything about flash, bootloader, roms, kernels and so on,
I would like to try the ViperOneS rom (because everybody seems happy with it), but I don't know how to install it.
Also, is the Fusion Ultimate kernel good\necessary? Are this rom and kernel stable so I can have a good experience with this One S without problems?
Where I can find a guide to find out how to do this properly thing without bricking my phone? :fingers-crossed:
Thanks

when i got the One S i thought the devs would just buy it immediately but for some reason they went after the stupid One X
( OmG quad COORE is faster than DUeL buy buy )
just wait for the next nexus and ull keep getting faster updates than anything else

Do you think Nexus 4 would be a good upgrade from the One S?

So with the new announcement of the Nexus 4 and how it will work on T-Mobile's network, I've been wondering if I should sell my One S to buy the Nexus 4? Is anyone else having similar thoughts? I am really interested in the bigger screen, higher resolution, as well as the S4 Pro processor and the 2 GB of ram. The One S has served me well but waiting on an official Jelly Bean release from HTC has been a big pain, though ParanoidAndroid has helped me deal with that. I can't imagine it being supported officially when 4.3 comes out.
Just wondering what everyone else thinks of the Nexus 4 in comparison to our One S.
Sorry, I didn't realize I was posting to the General section. This should belong to the Q&A section. I tried, but I don't know how to delete or move the thread.
I feel bad for messing up.
No worries a mod will move it. But on topic yeah its a great upgrade, it has the best specs on the market right now and it's only £279 I have already decided to upgrade and we can sell are one s on eBay and get the nexus 4 for like £30 on top.

But for this price its a real bargain, and as im on a 2 year contract i doubt the one s will keep up to speed. Plus I'm afraid alot of dev will jump ship aswell (some allready are).
Pro's for getting the Nexus 4 over the one S
- Better screen, this was a mayor lackbuster for the one S
- Newest chipset, allthough the oneS is doing a great job here, there is no denying the power of the s4 pro, and the nexus has a fresh aosp on top of that.
- Huge development community behind it
Con's
- Allthough the nexus has a great camera it doesnt has the same preformance and usability (burst, 0shutterlag, ect.)
- No sense. Yes its bloat, but we can't deny the solid preformance it has nowdays, and if we look at what 4.1 did for the one X i think i rather have a fun Sense ui over a vannila blend aosp nowdays (boring).
- I think i prefer the build quality on the one S, and it looks alot better aswell.
Still with this display, preformance, newest android builds is it hard not to consider it, especially with that price. And the development behind the nexus devices are really tempting too.
I'm buying the LG nexus 4 and selling HTC One S S3 because this phone was garbage. This was my last phone from HTC.
Goodbye HTC (crap), hello Nexus 4!
I like my HOS S4 but I cant resist the S4 Pro chip and the 2 GB of ram. The only con is the lack of an SD slot like the HOS.

I really like the my HOS S4 but I'll sell my One S for about the same price of the Nexus 4.
PS: I don't care about the SD
There is just one "small" problem. It looks like in Italy the phone it will cost probably 549€ or 599€ instead of 349€ like Spain\France\Germany(via play store)...so I won't sell my One S

This pretty much sums it up. I wont buy it, as my contact lasts one year
Will probably move to it as well, main reasons are
- nexus phone therefore we get updates as soon as they are released and will be guaranteed to get them
- bigger screen
I love the one s, prefer sense to stock android, will probably have a better camera and it has way more features, prefer Samoled, better design/build etc. but HTC as a company have really let it down with support and slow updates, can't see jb hitting my phone for another 4 weeks or so....
I just need to see reviews of it first and user opinions for the audio, camera and battery life, there are reviews for the optimus g, but lg's software seems to have been very poorly optimised (software/driver optimisation is very important in these areas), although these areas still look very good anyway except the camera.
In theory the battery should be better than the s as the n4 has a next gen battery, more power efficient screen and s4 pro, the adreno 320 is more power efficient than the adreno 225
I'm tempted by it so much too just cause its a new phone lol ... But I really don't like the huge screen and I'd miss my camera too much cause the camera the HOS has is too good .. AND honestly the way it feels and the weight and all that makes me not wanna sell this ... On top of all that I think I actually like sense over stock lol ...and screw LG after the g2x I don't think I'm ever getting over that

Wow, are you me? I really do love the camera on the One S and the build quality just feels excellent; the two things that I would say it has over the Nexus 4. I like the cool metal case and just how professional and solid it feel. Like you, I also had the G2x before the One S and felt like they had screwed me over (Crappy drivers, crappy camera, crappy promise of ICS, etc.). I'll have to really see if I trust Google more than I distrust LG on making a good phone...

Though HTC is not so good at delivering updates, in my opinion it is the most reliable OEM out there. So i won't move to LG or Samsung. My reason is based mostly on build quality, which kida sucks on LG and Samsung when compared to HTC.
Also, i don't really see the point in having the latest gadget. The HOS S4 will still be breathing at least a year from now, the CPU and GPU are strong enough. Plus, i don't really see how a quad core will help me on a mobile phone.
The only Nexus i really miss is the original Nexus One, the HTC Desire's brother.
You do realise that lg have nothing to do with the software? All they have done is made the phone and everything regarding software is handled by Google since it's a nexus phone.
Google said they shipped the lg design team over to Google headquarters in order to work with them very closely on the design and ergonomics of the phone.
Lg make fantastic hardware and a lot of their phones are very good as usual they are let down by the poor support and awful software.
I am really thinking about selling my One S S3 and getting a Nexus 4. I seems to be a very good phone.

I would definitely agree if you have the One S S3. It would be a significant speed bump and there probably isn't a significant con to the Nexus 4 that the One S doesn't share (non-removable battery, no SD card, etc.). I think the S4 version would be a tougher decision as to whether or not to upgrade to the Nexus 4.
Im getting the Nexus 4 the second I have the funds.

But I'm too lazy to find someone who wants to buy it. And I don't want to sell it for under 300€.

My thoughts exactly although I still have my N1, it will always be the one I never let go.
The speed and performance on this phone is outstanding and well asop has become very boring and old. Sense for me was a very big suprise as its come such a long way and just gets better. For me I'm sticking with my One S.

Lol, no way you will get 300 euros for a S3 one S, when you could get a S4 one S for that.
Especially if you have the black model, which has chipping issues.
Only way is if you can find someone around your area who don't have a clue about tech/android stuff.

Why should i decide to stay with one s?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask you a couple of questions. HTC ONE S is a beautiful phone, fast, the best to the touch and with a processor speed but ... But in the period where they are baked increasingly cheap quad core and even dual core as the new pro s4 are faster. In addition there is the problem that is not particularly supported by Community, stay with One S?
Express your thoughts thanks
If you want a dull vanilla android then yes ! But I would stay with one s or maybe shift to one x , one x+ or Samsung galaxy s3 ,try using a aokp/aosp Rom that's how a nexus device is,, very plain !! , if you got money to spent go buy some other quad cores like one x and sgs3 , people go with HTC and Samsung coz of their innovative ui ( sense for HTC and touchwiz for Samsung) . Android has only be rocking because of Samsung HTC and Sony , nexus devices are cheaper but not that enjoyable ,

I would say opposite of what this guy says. Samsung and HTC throw crappy interfaces over stock android making it slower and only causing you to not get the updated operating system timely on your phone. Vanilla android is best and I'm planning to buy nexus 4 as soon as it's out. One decent reason to stick with one s is that you don't have money to throw around buying the latest and greatest phone.

Is the phone unable to do something that you need it to do? Are a few more megaflipflops of processing power really going to make your life better?
If the answer to either of these questions is yes then buy another phone.
Trendy
Trend!!!
People wants to be trendy. Mostly iPhone users. Do not be like them.
As @Troute said: Is the phone unable to do something that you need it to do?
I find support pretty decent depending on what you're looking for. There's a good variety of different ROMs available to suit your tastes. Even though there's faster phones available now, it really depends on what you need to make your phone work for you. If you don't notice any issues with lag, performance is good, and battery life is good then I think things should be ok?

I spent $285 on this phone I think I got a solid deal. Definitely don't get an iphone anywhere near retail value. If I had to get a phone right now I would buy the Nexus 4.
Well as it stands right now the nexus 4 is gonna be strictly worst than our phone cuz LG made it. Anyone one else confused on that?
I say go for a onex+ or a s3. imma skip out on this round of smartphones though cuz our one s is one of the top phones out. Everytime i pull it out ppl are like OMG what phone is that. pretty much once the wow factor is gone its time for an upgrade lol
I mainly need a really powerful camera to replace compact digital camera for daily use, I don't want to take two devices go out. So, I will stay with One S and not to go with N4 like everyone else here.
I will probably buy a new phone later when HTC or Sony introduces their new camera sensor. HTC is going to roll out 5" 1080 J Butterfly with 8M cam in Dec on Japan, wanna see if the sensor get improved and I might get one.

LG is guilty of terrible software, but with the Nexus 4 that's not an issue. The hardware of the Nexus 4 is patchwork. On one hand you have the quad core S4 pro, on the other you're stuck with only 12gb of accessible space. On one hand you have an amazing screen, on the other the battery life sucks and can't be upgraded. You have to decide what you can tolerate to decide if a Nexus is for you. I love AOSP, but HATE limited storage. I love the resolution, but HATE the battery life. So I won't be getting a Nexus 4.

I may get the nexus 4 it will have a lot of devs working on it and I could just flash a sense rom onto the phone because I like sense. And I really want nfc
It's only 280 pound for 16gb and it beats the GS3 in specs

I don't like the thing that they're delaying new updates too much and plus it's not that well made except the ceramic body ofc
