[Q] can i put any kind of app on sg tab2 or do they need to be made for the device? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i can get my hands on all kind of apps but do they need to be made specifically for the tab 2 10.1 device?
thank you and sorry if this is a silly question it just seems there are not as many sources as other devices.

I think most of apps can run on almost all Android devices. But for games, there're special datas for each device.

thank you for taking the time to reply, so a sgs3 game will not run on the tab2 ect? thank you again

Most everything that runs on a phone will run on a tablet. Possibly they may use different versions. But if you got the game from the Play Store, you should be able to download the correct version for the tab. If you got the game from a hack site then you are on your own and nothing of that nature can be discussed on this site.
Wouldn't it be easier just trying to run the game then to ask on here??
Not to mention this is a question and belongs in the Q and A section and not the General section.

Please Help out a Newbie -

Hi guys im new to the forum and new to winmo. I recently purchased an HTC touch pro from verizon, and contrary to most reviews I like it so far. Anyway I need to do quite a few things, and dont know where to get started.
I need to:
- Update the phone (if i install a new ROM will this update the phone?) If not how/where do i get the updates?
- Install a new ROM - do i need to do this? what does it do which one and where?
- I need a youtube app - where/which?
- I would like any web browsers you think are better then opera 9.5 ( I heard Fennic was fast?)
- I also need step by step instructions to doing all of this please. sorry
PS: Do i need to install the software that comes with phone? if I do, or if I do any of the above, doese it waver the 30 day trial period?
Thanks for any help! sorry its so much!

First off - Why do you feel you have to install a new ROM - you say you are happy with the device. Are you saying this because many people here are flashing different ROM's to their devices so you think you should. You just got your device - you should really learn how to use it first and figure out what it can do for you. Afterwards if you feel you want to flash a new ROM, than the ROM you choose is based on your needs. Follow the advice already given to you and start reading (LOTS) If you don't you might kill your device before really getting to enjoy it.
Opera is a good browser, I have used it - but I am now using skyfire. I just find it quicker. Haven't used Fennic so can't say how it compares
Youtube app - You can watch Youtube using Skyfire - but there are several Youtube apps available throughout these forums. If you do a simple search with Keywod "youtube" you should be able to find some rather easily. I don't use any though because I can watch them though Skyfire.
You probably won't find anyone giving you step by step instructions for unlocking, flashing and installing apps etc... you have already been pointed to where you need to go to learn this for yourself so do some reading. If you have questions after having done some reading about something specific, then ask and people will help but not many people will hold your hand through this.
If you try returning your device within the 30 days with a custom (non official) ROM - you might have some troubles. You will have to reflash your stock ROM back to your device and lock it again I think.
I don't know what you mean - Do I have to install software that comes with the phone. There are many apps available in this forum which you can easily install (many are in .cab format for easy installation. Some in .exe format requiring installation from your computer to your device though activesinc and some are just (place on your device and run it) Take into consideration which version of WM you have on your device (some are specific to WM 6 some to 6.1 and some to 5. Also take into consideration your screan. VGA or WVGA or QVGA etc.. as running an app with resolution different than your device and it will not display properly. If you install an app and it does not work properly or you just don't like it - go to settings - System - Remove programs and uninstall the app that way (works only for cabs or exe's installed) The others you just navigate to where you placed the app and delete it. You cannot delete applications hard coded into your ROM (from what I have read)
There is much to learn in these forums and it is up to you to do some reading and learning and figure out for yourself what it is you really want on your device. As you can see from my signature - I am still running my stock WM 6 ROM.
If I sound like I am being harsh I appologize; however, I must point you to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/faq.php
These are the rules and you need to read the rules - I notice that you created three seperate threads asking pretty much the same thing. This was the first thread started and was in the right section.
You created another one asking the exact same things after not having gotten the response you were looking for (bad move and a violation of the rules) and you created a third asking the same thing but not in quite as much detail (violation of the rules)
We are (most of us) are helpful community; however, you must do some work yourself to learn as much as you can and this will require lots and lots of reading. If you don't do the reading and learning for yourself (you just will never understand your device and what it is capable of and your next post will be titled
"Help - I bricked my device" - You don't want this and neither do we. Read and if you need clarification (because it is a lot to learn and can be confusing) then ask questions about your specific uncertainties. We will be glad to help (except I can't help with flashing ROM's because I havn't ever done it yet) lol
Good luck and enjoy your new device
thanks for all the help man, i should have done more research, the wiki is kinda confusing to me though and i wasnt sure of the different procedures to flashing etc. sorry. One question though, I was looking at downloading a pack of apps from bwone.com called the bowman pack pro, i cant really find much info on it, besides the apps it contains and therefor am unsure of how to install it.

I checked out the website you mentioned and checked out hte Bowman pack pro - Sorry that I really can't tell you much about it or the apps included; however, if it is completely free - give it a shot - it is probably a cab install which is easy enough to install and uninstall. If it is not free or only trial version then use the search function under your name up top to try to find prorams which are equivelant but free on this site. You really should be able to find most things you need through this site. I don't want to discredit the website you mentioned. I have never seen it before so I will leave that at that. I know this site and there is much available for everyone here.
You want cool music players seach S2P or Mortplayer or TCPMP or the new Nitrogen player (all free) or core player (pay) all are really good in my opinion.
TCPMP also plays videos really well (as does core player but Core Player has other codecs I think) There is a special version of TCPMP to run on your device I believe - Use search above.
Check out development and hacking section of this forum for all your application needs. Apps do not have to be designed specifically for your device as I have already mentioned above.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=260
This is link to Development and hacking section where you will find most of the apps and ROMS developed for all devices - Remember ROMS are device specific - Apps are not device specific in general - Check out apps that interest you and read the developers description and program details - It should tell you everything you need to know. Read also throughout the thread to see what others say about the program - How it runs on their devices, bugs found, fixes etc....
Like already said before - There is a lot of reading to do - This is a reading forum but it will allow you to enjoy your device to the max.....
Good luck.

[Q] Bought the Samsung GTab 10.1 today, have a few questions about it?

Hey guys!
I just ordered the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (P5100) 10.1" today via Flipkart (Indian Online Mega-Store) and it is expected to arrive in a few days. I'm really excited that it's going to be my first tablet, but mostly because it'll be the first Android device I own. I've been living with my Nokia N8-00 (Symbian Belle) for about 2 years now and I finally have a replacement.
Along with the excitement, I had a lot of questions about the device. I'll just list them below, so it'll be easier for you guys to answer them
1. Have I made the right choice?
The first thing I thought to myself after I pressed the 'Buy Now' button. I bought it mostly for watching movies and the TV shows that I regularly download from the internet. Some rigorous browsing, downloading of music, and mostly showing off my photos to other people (I'm a photographer and having a portfolio on-hand is a good idea). I haven't demoed the device before, but my friends have all said theirs works wonderfully (granted, they own the 7" version).
2. What is rooting? Do I need to root my device?
My friends keep talking about this rooting thing. I'm a new android user, so I lack the basic knowledge of these terminologies. Will I need to root my tablet? Is it safe to do so? What will I benefit from this procedure?
3. What are the best apps I can download?
I want to know what are the best apps I can install on my device for my particular needs (mentioned above). I also wanted to know how I can customize my device to the fullest extent. When I had an iPod Touch, I jailbroke it and installed WinterBoard to use custom themes and icons of my own choice. What is the procedure to replicate the same on an Android device?
4. Is Android App Development easy?
What language is it generally coded in? I have a basic understanding of HTML/CSS & PHP, a firm grasp on C# and .NET (from Windows 8 Development). I'd like to try my luck in the Android App genre, how many have tried the same and do you feel it is easy for a beginner/intermediate?
I'd really love it if you guys could help me out starting with this new journey of Android! Thank you all!
you made the right choice.
Rooting is jailbreak. You don;t need it unless you want to install certain custom mods or apps.
Development is as easy as any platform if you have done it before, its the same once you set up the environment. Search Google and you will find a Google tutorial on getting started.
Apps:
Evernote
Sketch Book Pro if you like doodling
Photoshop Touch
Tunein Radio

[Q] Android App Dev - How to?

Hi All,
I have been a user of Android phones since the first Samsung Galaxy S phone was released. I loved that phone and still have it in prestine condition at home. I then moved up to the Galaxy S2 which i am still using to this day, as i have not needed to upgrade to the S3 yet, since the S2 has such great support on these forums.
Moving forward to the present date, i have developed a keen interest in learning how to program Android apps. However, I do not know where to start. So far I have downloaded and researched the following :
ANDROID SDK KIT AND SITE
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#download
ANDROID EMULATOR - Jar of Beans
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975675
APK file editor
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189971
Very useful starters guide to ADB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872128
But am now stuck on the learning side of things.
So my question to you guys is, can someone point me in the right direction, with a couple of links and resources that they have used and found really useful. There is plenty of links after doing a google search, but I am looking for peoples tried/tested/succeeded links and resources, so that I have the very best material at my disposal for some upcoming ideas that I have for apps for the Android OS.
Any help in this area is greatly appreciated.

[Resolved] [Q] can i install iOS on Android

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post
I have a Huawei Ascend Y320 (Android 4.2 Jellybean, dual-core processor etc), and I have heard that it is possible to run iOS on an Android device.
I have seen a similar thread discussing this topic... but the 'how-to' link in the thread does not load the desired page
I have also found this through a Google search 'iosonandroid' However the page forces one to make purchases for products and services that I don't want and don't furthermore trust.
So, that brings me back to my question, can one run iOS on Android...?
Please don't knock me for this, as though I quite like Android OS, I need to access iOS apps, such as 'iMovie', and other similar video editing/movie making software.
Android has many apps for such purposes, however, most are merely clones of Androids' stock Movie Maker, which has limited abilities, and can be quite buggy. I have managed to find a couple of great video editing/movie making apps on Google Play, but I would still be keen to be able install iOS apps to broaden my capabilities.
Any constructive help would be much appreciated
Cheers,
Harry
I'm going to answer your question quickly before someone thinks it'll be funny to troll you.
Sadly I will have to say, you cannot run iOS on Android, some developers have found a way to run iOS apps on Android but they haven't released much info on that.
The sites that say, you can run it. They're all bullcrap and just want you to register and fill out surveys. If there was iOS for Android, I'm sure it'd be on YouTube, and here on xda.
So again, you can't run iOS on Android.

Thanks for that Glad I got a 'straight to the point' answer from you, I really appreciate that.
I have seen evidence of heavy trolling on other threads... which makes it extremely difficult for people like myself trying to work out a solution to a query or problem.
And yes, I did wonder about the survey/register blah blah spam on the 'iOS on Android' website. I am glad I did not go through with the process, as it seems especially dodgy considering there is no way of contacting the dev....
Exactly, and the thing is, there is no specification for the device. It just has pictures of samsung and htc phones with the iOS screenshot and then the requirements on the page is based on Android OS versions... And it supports eclair. Lol.
Maybe sometime in future some smart developer will figure out how to run iOS on Android.
