MMS pictures tiny - only when screenshots from iPhones - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I've been receiving pictures, more specifically screenshots from my friends who are iPhone users and their picture come out 27x40, completely unusable. I've tried googling the issue, but it seems a lot of others are having the exact same problem. No solutions were posted, but a few reasons were that it was on AT&T's end or that the One X had problems with receiving pictures in PNG format.
The threads are here , here and here
From what I saw, some are running Sense 4, way back in Sept, so they may be running Hboot 1.09 or 1.14. Some said updating their phone (presumably to FW 2.20) fixed it, but for me running on 3.18, the problem still persists. I'm going to try to RUU and redo my ROM to see if that fixes it (among other problems I've been having).
I'm running Sense 5 (MagioROM 3.6, at the time of this post), Hboot 2.14 with 3.18 radio (have tried reflashing the radio too).
Would anybody be able to provide some insight on this?

Same issue on Sense 4/5. The first image is from when I received a text when I was in Sense 5 (restored later to current ROM) and the second one is from an AOSP ROM.

I've tried setting MMS sizes from 300K to 1M and still nothing. Guess it's a problem within Sense. I found it interesting how it went across from 4 to 5 though. When the "Downloading.." dialog comes up in the message thread, it says the picture was 32KB, but when I saved it and looked at it in the Windows explorer, it says 2.36KB, which tells me it's within the phone, not server-side.

The HTC Touch Cruise ROM Update

Hiya's, just a question about the ROM Update that is located on the HTC website. Can anyone tell me what it does and is it something that does good for the Cruise..
Link to the Update here
Also the HTC Update to WM6.1 indicates that the "Download is not suitable for my device". Its definitely a Cruise and I fairly sure it is version 6. Any one know why its not suitable? I have emailed HTC a couple of weeks ago but have got no response so far..
What the ROM does is explained on the HTC-site itself. Nothing big, fixed some bugs. The main reason for me was the fix for the keyboard (it now remembers the keyboard you last used instead of displaying the touch keyboard as a default).
Had some trouble with high battery drain on this new ROM and imap email that could not connect, but that's fixed.
It's working fine now. Did not have any 'device' problems like you mentioned.
Please do search this forum.
There was enough written about update issues, including your "not suitable" issue.
As a hint, look for my posts...
So from what I can gather, HTC basically announced the upgrade to 6.1 and then didnt follow through..
Oh, it did.
But only for devices not obtained trough vendors (Vodafone, T-Mobile...).
And with some problems 6.0 did not have (including sync with multiple PC's)

"ID Studio Room" as Location on every Reminder since Sense 3.0 OTA

The Title sais it all. When I get a reminder on the lockscreen of sense 3.0 the location is always "ID Studio Room" - at least if I didn't set a location.
Anyone else got this? any solutions?
Yes, it happens also to me. I would like to know why.
same here, using Desire S.
Fortunately this location? is not synchroed to my outlook (using MyPhoneExplorer, not HTC Sync)
strange...
I have this bug too. I get this error also if i set a location in my gmail calendar.
I've been suffering from this damn thing since upgrading to ARHD 6.1.1. It still occurs in 6.1.3.
My two complaints are the ID Studio Room location for every damn event -AND- the "dismiss" calendar events no the lock screen ALWAYS goes to the damn event detail screen.
A fix would be most helpful.
FYI: I'm using an Inspire 4G (Desire HD rebranded). So, yeah.
I have just seen that even if the location has been set, the ID Studio Room message still appears. So, I don't think it only appears if a location is not set.

update: problem still exists. i updated MyPhoneExplorer to version 1.8.2, and also did the sync with HTC Sync new version. same result..
by the way MyPhoneExplorer is awesome, new version provides live view (remote control) of your phone on your PC!
Had my first reminder this morning and got this annoying glitch as well.
Using Stock O2 - Android 2.3.5, Sense 3.0
Any news on this??
so.... we are the only ones in this forum with this bug? I still haven't found any solution..
More simply people get rid of that.
I have been having this issue since the update too, nothing dramatic but a bit annoying
Bug confirmed on device which was updated to 20.1.401.8 using RUU (rather than OTA update)
Also present on calendar entries created on device rather than imported - So external software doesn't seem to be responsible.
Slightly annoying! Hope they'll fix this is the next patch which repairs the patch which fixed the bugs etc etc etc
I've had this same issue. It confused the heck out of me when a reminder went off early one morning and all I saw was "ID Studio Room" and I thought it was a text message from my wife about leaving her ID in our studio.
I'm using an HTC Inspire 4G with Android Revolution HD. Didn't start until I flashed that ROM from stock.
I also didn't do a complete wipe of my SD card when I flashed it. Maybe this could cause the issue? (probably not)
Does anybody else have this issue and also didn't do a clean wipe?
I've made a full wipe many times, and this didn't solve the problem. A SD card wipe doesn't have anything to do with it as well.

The issue relates to dev/leaked ROMs for other devices being used for our devices as bases.
My phone, the Inspire 4G, had this problem with every ROM based on Pyramid and above. However, I'm using a ROM based off of the latest update from the stock ROM. It has NO defects like this. Try a ROM based off of your stock ROM.
I've recently switched to Endymion ROM and I see that "ID Studio Room" doesn't appear anymore. Now the location appears in place of it.
I think that this issue is related to the HTC Sense. Is it possible? Or does it happen also to people without HTC Sense?
Now I have HTC Sense 3.5, and the problem was present when I was using the version 3.0.

While I do not know its direct relation to Sense, I am positive that it has to do with with which dev build of leaked HTC test ROM's were in use. A large number of dev builds have minor errors like that.
This indeed was the case. If you get a ROM using something officially for your device, or at least based on a final product with a device comparable to your own, you're less prone to such annoying bugs.
Yes, maybe you are right actually. In truth I don't know if the build I am using is coming from an official release. Anyway it would probably depend on the build rather then the Sense version.

I am using the official build and the bug is there, so don't worry it's probably HTC's fault
Hi all. Just to confirm previous post, I too am running all stock and get the " ID Studio Room ".

Fix for Exchange Activsync in ICS?

Is there a fix for Exchange Activsync when using ROMs like InsertCoin or AHRD? When I tried these ROMs my settings would always get wiped out and default to 3 days of email and 15 minutes sync time instead of whatever settings I had changed. Due to that I reverted back to GB.
Having the same problem, but it's weird.
With one Exchange account the settings remain the same but with another they always change.
It works fine on Virtuous Inquisition AOSP ROM but not on AHRD or IC.
I guess it's a Sense bug then.
HAD the same problem here until......
I have been using ARHD for quite some time and had been putting up with the settings reverting back to defaults. A week ago my inbox at work was migrated to Exchange Server 2010 from 2003/2007(not sure which) and since then my settings have remained intact. Either it is a really big coincidence or maybe some sort of incompatibility between the ICS roms and the earlier exchange servers.
Would post this in the development forums but I don't have enough 'points' to do so.
Bob
I am having the same problem with Elegancia and ICS
The settings reverts back to mail size 5 kb, update schedule 15 minutes and Download past mail 3 days
Tried looking for answers on countless threads but nothing that has worked.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in Advance
Running Android ICS 4.03, Main base is RUU 3.30.401.101, with the HTC Sense 3.6
I am using activesync to push my gmail, so i have no idea what exchange server is being used.
It does it for both my Gmail as well as Hotmail accounts (even if only one of them is setup) Don't know about GMail exchange version but I would assume Microsoft is on their latest version of Exchange..
Will the email.apk from another ICS 4.03 ROM with Sense 3.6 work?
Will be installing a Mail.apk with bypass Security features to see of that works..will let you folks know...
Installing another apk did not work either
Same problem with RUU 3.30

Yes. It finally works with Sense 3.6 with the RUU 3.32.531.14 update.
Good news for people on TMOUS. Does anyone know if TMobile in the UK will be releasing this soon as an RUU or OTA?
Edit: Just got off the phone to T-Mobile tech support - they said there is going to be an OTA update some time mid August.
Fixed!
Just updated to 3.33.401.106 OTA (TMO-UK) - the Exchange bug, among other things probably, is fixed

All SMS apps Full Closing on OpenSensation Nightlies

Hey, I've done a fair whack of searching and unfortunately even though I've done a lot of lurking and reading, I do not have permission to post in the developers forum. Supposedly I need 10 posts before I'm able to post inane drivel to spam up the threads.
Annnnnyway, I've had a crack with a few of the more popular SMS apps, along side the native Messaging app, and all of them crash immediately on launch. The exception is Go SMS Pro, which is unable to detect any SMSes or even send any SMSes.
I've no clue how or why this is, I've cleared both my normal and Dalvik cache, the MMS.APK is in place in /system/app/ folder, the permissions are correct, I've tried clearing the data, and I think short of a full wipe and install, unless someone can point me in the right direction, I've tried most things a reasonable person would think of. Granted, I'm not knee deep in Android development like a few of the people who lurk around here, so I could be mistaken.
I'm running a standard HTC Sensation with a slightly out of date version of the default 1.5GHz kernel included with Android Revolution HD, although I am planning on flashing the latest TamCore to see if that will clear it up (though I doubt it). Currently I have OpenSensation-20120809-NIGHTLY.zip installed, but I'm downloading OpenSensation-20120810-NIGHTLY.zip as well in hopes that maybe it's a bug in this nightly that is resolved in the newer one, although I doubt that.
Anyway, any help is much appreciated.
Cheers.

Might be an issue with OpenSensation (as you're using nightlies). Back up what you have, format everything but SD card, and I'd recommend trying a completely different non-nightly ROM, try AOKP m6. This way you can see if the SMS issue is related to OpenSensation or not. backup m6 THEN try the newest OpenSensation nightly to see if the issue is fixed. This way you'll likely be left with at least one ROM you can restore with working SMS functionality.
I might yet have to do that, although I would prefer to stay as close to vanilla as possible, that's why OpenSensation interested me - I think I'll try regressing to the CM9 RC2 on the official Cyanogen mod website first, then try other projects after that if that doesn't work. Does seem strange that no one else is complaining of this issues though, and I really can't see myself being the only one running the latest versions.
Oh yeah, the newest nightly and Tamcore kernel didn't work - the only thing that's changed is now I know I can't regress directly to my ARHD backup, yay!
This one's a bit of a thinker.
Well, I did a full wipe, installed the latest HyperSensation CM9 build and reinstalled the TamCore Kernel. Everything seems to be working now.
Thanks for the input, thread can be closed.

[Q] Messaging app not moving latest sms to the top

Hi,
I upgraded my Tab to 4.1.2 and have been having problems with my SMS. The Messaging app is not moving the thread to the top when a new text comes in, only when I reply.
ie the 10th thread in my list continues to be at the 10th position after receiving new messages. It doesn't get moved to the top which it used to. I thought it was a problem with the app and tried using Handcent. The same problem persists. It seems like there is something wrong with the time stamp of the thread not updating properly or something.
Anyone has any idea what's going on or what a solution might be? It's a big annoyance.
Thanks!
Hep, have this problem too. Very annoying.m I think samsung is doing this on purpose to force us to buy a new tab. Even though the 7.7 still holds it ground with the latest device.
Samsung is probably slowing things down on purpose too for this tab. I still notice a little lag.
I have the same problem.
same problem here, already tried a full flash (JB) still the same, i thought it was just GO SMS but I already uninstalled and and the problem persist, it's so annoying when you have to look for the one who sent u sms
In XDA, you'll find a mod to correct the date-time stamp for stock de-odex MMS.apk.
There are some simple guides, but you must be rooted first and most likely de-odexed.
Sorry, don't have the time right now to actually do a JB version for you, and also unable to test without device model (assume you have P6800).
I have previously modded a P6800 ICS app here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204628. 122 dl, and ZERO feedback. Didn't even know if it worked.....can only assume so.... This is not for JB, won't work. The JB MMS.apk needs to be modded.
It may not even solve your problem. But hey, at least there's a 'possible' solution if you're willing to try to mod yourself
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
I can't even begin to imagine how to mod an app. my skills are limited to just rooting and flashing roms. If I flash a custom ROM, say Cyanogen, will it fix the problem???
ok, I contacted Samsung about it and their advice was to do a complete factory wipe. I backed up my SMSs and tried it. After restoring the messages, everything was fixed. so there's the fix. but at the cost of having to restore everything after a complete wipe
Android sucks. Its the only os that forces u to do a full wipe for each updates.
