After some extensive searching both in and out of XDA, I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. So if the information has already been posted, please cut me some slack - I did do some leg work first before posting.
I am currently on hboot 1.09 and have s-off, running ViperXL (Sense based ROM). I was wanting to flash some of the new ROMs with the 3.4 kernel which all require 1.14 hboot and 3.18 firmware. While I was looking for instructions I did stumble into some threads where people have bricked their phones flashing the 3.18 firmware updates and etc so that gave me some cause for alarm.
Bottom line...I couldn't find any exact instructions on how to update the firmware and hboot with steps to insure I don't bork my phone. If anyone's got a link or care to help me out I'd appreciate it.
You're s-off so you should be fine. The cases where users have bricked their phones happened they were SuperCID and s-on and ran an RUU, bad idea.
Is your phone an att model? Or Rogers? Or an unlocked Hong Kong version?

if I flash it, should I first flash the rom or radio?
which can I use, from ota or from ruu?

No, you don't need a new radio for ICS - this is not samsung. As a general rule, don't play with the radio unless absolutely necessary.
It's risky business, and the benefit is not worth the potential hazard.
Cheers
EDIT : As a general piece of friendly advice, I would suggest you flash stable GB ROMs and play around for a bit before jumping into the world of beta ICS ROMs. Get a feel of the stable stuff before you spoil your flashing experience with random reboots and system freezes at the onset.

I'd recommend the radio that I'm on (see my signature)
But to back up what has just been said, don't bother changing radios unless you experience issues.

The reason why I asked is so that you can get a local user from the same location hopefully on the same network to recommend you a radio rather than someone on the other side of the planet

I disagree I'd flash the ENG 98.2 hboot instead.....as that works fine....unless you intend to flash a stock sense 3.0 rom all of the customs work on either.
I know that I'm on the later one, but I can't be bothered to downgrade

Not the place for it dude. You generally don't post in the Android Development forums unless you've made a ROM, or a kernel or something. Reposting this in general or Q&A will get you more help
As others have pointed out questions go in the Q&A section. A simple scroll through the threads here however would have shown you a few threads on what you are looking for such as this one

EDIT: Sorry, I was a little behind with the posting, ignore
HTC dev unlock the bootloader and this isn't the way to s off but it is a step in the right direction you will be able to flash Rom but not radios or firmware and the there's another way you could try and find the ruu that contains the hboot 1.17 and if successful you can then head over to alpha revolutionary and then s off and by the way I have that ruu that will get you where you want to be you are welcome to pm me if you like I know what it feels like when you have a sensation with hboot 1.17 I guess you can say I'm part of the old school pack have the hboot 1.17 everything is possible and easy so I kepp that ruu when I need to go back to stock Rom

Footballs Thread or my 4Shared mirror.
Check Footballs thread, dev section, mirror links are all over the thread, i got a mirror there too. RUU is in there.
Just search i got no link atm i am in a hurry.
PS: For Rogers there is only the 1.70 RUU. Alternatively, you can go downgrade on the Brick Downgrade thread and then run the 1.70 RUU again.
Second alternative is go to the SuperCID thread, change to SCID, then change to WWE or any other RUU you like.

Are there any negative side effects to changing the SCID to another provider (such as Bell Mobility) to install the RUU then switching it back to Rogers after? I'm not exactly sure what the difference between the WWE, Euro, and the other regions' RUUs. I was thinking of doing that using the file from your dropbox:
RUU_Ville_U_BM_1.84.666.9_Radio_0.17.31501S.10_2_10.27.31501S.10L_release_265369_signed.exe
Alternatively, can you install an OTA on a phone without a ROM? (or with a non-stock rom & kernel such as cm, trickdroid, etc.) I saw another thread which might have a new OTA update for Rogers/Fido soon...
[Q] Will I brick my One s if i do the update?
Edit: for those looking on how to change the CID:
Super cid: 11111111
...and +1 to wanting a newer RUU :fingers-crossed:
theoretically you can do it;
however you'll get lots of specific provider app who will not work on the new network; also you have to edit (and to know how to) the build.prop file so you can achieve the best of your usage network capabilities.

Thank you. I assume your response is regarding my first question - using another providers RUU. Would it be easier/possible to use an OTA update to return to stock? One is now available on the "[Q] Will I brick my One s if i do the update?" thread linked in my previous post:

Hi everyone!
Just bought a new HTC One SV which is branded by Vodafone Spain. I unlocked the phone by using an unlock code and now I want to install a stock ROM, either world or european ROM, but I can't seem to find anything for 4.2.2.
Would greatly appreciate any help!

The phone is branded by Vodafone and has tons of apps that I'll never even touch. Just want to put a stock ROM, without any other 3rd party apps. Moreover, after 4.2.2 was released for this model had to wait a bit over two months to get the update.

Its the same thing, unbranded phones, from my experience, do not contain a bunch of bloatware (unwanted apps) which normally comes from the company provider after given to them by HTC. If from HTC directly, its strictly what they produce and offer without the extras from other companies. I looked at @old.splatterhand index, and I see only two Roms available which are 4.2.2. Now whether they come with or without the bloatware I cannot say, as I have a K2_CL device. Though, I do believe that the 4.2.2 K2_UL does not contain any bloatware from going off the top of my head - because o have used it before in the past to adapt it for use on our K2 variant.
old.splatterhand, you are more familiar in this area than myself since I focus more on Boost and Cricket. Feel free to chime in and correct me where correction is due buddy.

We need to be more clear, what @Nihtilan exactly wants.
The 422 roms (k2u & k2ul) are both unbranded, no provider apps and something like this.
They can be flashed also S-On, but firmware files are also needed to flash, if the device wasn't on 422 already.
Or the other way is a completely unbrand:
S-Off -> SuperCID -> hboot downgrade -> EU unbranded RUU.

Thanks for the reply, and yea, I didn't bother to include the firmware info because he had already mentioned that he received the 4.2.2 update even though it took him a while to get it. I figured it would had been too much info and probably would have caused some confusion. I appreciate the timely response.

That's exactly what I want to do.
I would like to put either a 4.2.2 World or Europe unbranded RUU.
How do I do that? Is it possible without S-OFF?
PS: Apologies for the late reply.
LE: I remember when I had a Wildfire S, when I unbranded the phone I just had to create a gold card and put the RUU on it and it was very easy. I reckon things have changed a bit in the meantime..
So thats the way to go: S-Off -> SuperCID -> hboot downgrade -> EU unbranded RUU.
And no chance without S-Off.
Use the search (inside the HTC ONE SV Forum) with the words "hboot downgrade". There should be many results that describe the way more detailed.
This might be a noob question, but what's the difference between K2_U, K2_UL, etc.? Also, could you please direct me to some threads? Had a look through quite a few and I'm not really sure where to start.
Thank you.
LE: Ok, did a bit of research and my phone is K2_U. Also, I couldn't find S-OFF for 4.2.2.
Get S-Off with http://rumrunner.us (Universal version).
Get SuperCid with fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
Go to this thread, read and follow the instructions there.
All done!
Thank you very much for your help!
You're welcome.
Glad, that it worked for you.
GOod night. My main issue is the sheer number of ppl with the HTC OneXL in this forum. Lot of posts i see say 'sent from my HTC OneXL'..i read something on this very site telling me that when downloading ROMs or anything really for a device, make sure you get the correct files. This forum contains info on the AT&t and ROgers HTC OneX annddd the Telstra OneXL..the only real ROMs i am interested in would be the latest KitKat update from AT&T, CyanogenMod11 and MIUI. Ive got the necessary info on my device here. Ive already unlocked my bootloader, rooted, SuperCID. Root fully working with TWRP recovery. Still on the stock ROM. Im from the Virgin Islands, and with my HTC devices in the past as well as the Galaxy S4s, CyanogenMod ROMS always seemed to provide slightly worse WiFi performance in terms of distance. Also was a fan of CM from the Inspire4G due to its Torch app with its dual LEDs, utterly unchallenged on high-brightness, lol. Anyways, here are the specs on my current HTC OneX from AT&T:

All the answers to your questions are in that link I posted.
Yes you will have a stock recovery after the RUU. You will need to flash TWRP or CWM recovery in fastboot mode (bootloader mode) after running the RUU.
You will need to enter your recovery after you flash it and flash SuperSU (or equivalent) to root the Rom.
Your phone will remain unlocked, SuperCID, and S-Off after running the RUU.
As for the toolkit, you can do these things without it. A tool kit at this point is a crutch. You a far enough along now that you should understand how these things work. (OK. off soapbox now.)
Read through the link I posted. I detailed all the info you need to be successful. Good luck.
Agreed. Forget the toolbox, it's a crutch and is totally unnecessary. If you need instruction on flashing a recovery, installing a ROM, among other things, have a look at my How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature. You should also read the Evita FAQ thread in my signature.

Any of the radios in the radio thread are okay to flash on the EVITA. The Google map may be a good start, but only trial and error will tell you for sure which one is the best for you.
Any ROM but the stock AT&T ROM will let you turn off LTE in Settings. This is what I would recommend. What radio you use has no bearing on turning off LTE, if that is what you are asking.
