Is there a way to keep track of how many times the phone restarts on it's own or when was the last time it booted?
My VZW S3 is randomly rebooting and I'm not looking at my phone 24/7 so I wanted to see if there was a way to log how many times it reboots or at least see the last time it booted up.
I am not rooted or anything, just stock out of the box VZW S3.

Check your battery stats, there will be a break in the graph when/where your phone rebooted.

It might be a little different on TouchWiz, but you can System Settings>About Phone>Status and at the bottom will be Up time - how long it's been since the phone booted.
I created an app with Tasker that will create a boot log. It will print the date and time of every boot to a file on your ext SD card. It is super simple, no UI, doesn't open anything, just creates the log. It does have a monitoring service running on the phone, uses about 12MB.If you want to try it let me know and I can get you a link for it.

This is the way I'd do it, so I second the suggestion to use Tasker for this type of automation on any rooted device.

So I've had the phone for about 3 weeks now and never had the restarting problem but now it's done it twice in the past 24 hours. Anyone know why it's doing it and how to fix it?

need details what rom/kernel are you using? or is it completely stock? whats running when it restarts if anything? check new apps maybe one is being screwy

Completely stock, haven't rooted my phone yet. The phone every time has just been sitting on my desk or I'll be holding it doing nothing. I always close everything after I use it using the task manager. Let me know if you need any other info, and thanks.

hmm if its completely stock I couldn't say why, but maybe someone with more experience than me could chime in... as for a fix, perhaps if you backed everything up first, then a factory reset might do the trick

I'd look at any apps you recently installed. My Fascinate would reboot quite a bit at times for no reason, it could be a Samsung glitch.
What I tell my customers to do is;
-check that there isn't any software updates
-pull the battery and wait 30 sec. I know it is the generic answer but it fixes most problems, it just like a computer if it not working right, restart. (Laptops mainly in pulling the battery.)
-or factory/data reset. It often will fix the issue but there are the few cases where it will not solve the problem. (and you will lose all of your stuff on your phone, contacts are backed up by Google or backup asst.)
-lastly, root it!!! no problems on my GummyCharged, v1.5, 2.3.4 (I don't tell my customer this choice)
Yeah I'm going to root soon. I just keep on reading these forums everyday so I can hopefully prepare for rooting with no issues.

question for the "doc" lol, saw where everyone was talking about the "not working" apps in the dev thread, can we not go in and remove the apps ourselves? I just went in and removed TiBu with root explorer and re-installed the version i purchased then went in and removed all the apps that don't work or not gonna use, or was that not something I should have not did?

It's probably fine.
After you reinstalled TiBu were you able to update? I know there were a few people that were having issues with the TiBu not updating.
I once heard though, that it's better to freeze unwanted apps rather than uninstalling. Something to do with OTA updates looking for the bloatware in order to validate that your system is not hacked/rooted. Anyway, it's probably not a big deal, just ever since I read that I always just freeze rather than uninstall. Unless its an app I put on there and or I know that it's not something AT&T put on there. But myself, I would apply that same theory to any of the things included with the ROM, anything I don't want I'll freeze rather than uninstall.
Let us know if that worked for the updating of TiBu.

I will look into seeing if I can find some direct links for themes, but until then here is the Original Doctorz thread see if anybody has the answer there,
just make sure you clarify that you are an INFUSE user, since that thread is for the Galaxy S version. If you find something come let us know. Thanks.

i could not update the TiBu that came with the rom but once I removed it and re-installed from market then the key no problems.. i did not know that about freezing the apps Ill remember that from the future, i just uninstalled the add on apps anyways I.E. ext4, reboot etc... so hope I will be good to go, if not gotten really good at odin and reflashing lol. Need to learn to just leave stuff alone and quit messing with things lol!! thanks for all you all's help and hope the development doesn't stop for the infuse.

I installed the rom, and have used it for a little over a day now.. I love the theme, and its def snappy, but has a few problems me and a friend found. We've both put the rom on our Infuses.
For a few flashes, my home button wouldn't work, but I think that was narrowed to backing up system data.. it now works for me though. On the first flash try, all calls being made TO my phone just got a busy signal, but I could call out.. My friend's phone calls only works when calling out. When he receives a call, itll end the call about 5 seconds into it.
He cannot turn his phone on while its plugged into the charger.. it wont do anything when he holds the power button. I cannot get root explorer to work, no matter what. I've reinstalled it, fixed permissions, still nothing. I now use another app to access it. When ever I get a new email and notification, my phone will freeze and reboot. I've had quite a few random reboots today as well, with my friend having only a few. It even rebooted while in the middle of a phone call.
I've tried a few different kernels, but not sure if i know when it installs correctly other than the phone boots up... I know the voodo kernel hasnt worked at all... itll sit on the samsung screen for at least 30 mins a few different tries.

I found that the status bar settings has not changed anything that I could see, others have confirmed this. If it doors change anything I think its limited to the lockscreen if any changes are being made at all.

Sounds like you have a bad flash. I'd start over, make sure you do your proper wiping. And read over the Dev section there are a lot of additional steps spread throughout. I will try to compile them into one post when I get some free time. Good luck.

I've redownloaded the flash to my computer twice, recopied it to my phone twice, started with a complete fresh rom using odin that was already rooted and CWM installed, and wiped all data possible. I've followed all the steps, done reboots in between sometimes just to try something different.. I've reflashed my rom at least 6 times in the past two days maybe trying different things .
has anyone had bad battery drain with this? last night i charged 100% before went to bed, had JD running on aggressive mode, wifi anf BT disabled as well as setcpu no OC and profile for 400/100 when screen off.... got up this morning 6 hours and was at 38%, ive been running the rom for days now so i think its had time to bake but not sure what else to do? any suggestions.
Thats odd with the battery drain...mine has been doing great....so your saying it didnt fully charge? or it was full, u unpkugged went to bed woke up and it drained that much? that doesnt make sense...no rom should do that....check your runnibg services and tell me what all is constantly running

i thought something may have got messed up so i just odin back to stock before i read this sorry dman, if someone say "me" was going to start back from scratch..... just odin, root, flash community kernal to get CWM then flash rom? should just leave kernal and modem alone? i know everyone has there own personal preference but as i talked to experiment just need to leave stuff alone lol. in other words with this rom what would "you" set up with i.e. kernal, modem, tweaks/ no tweaks, etc.... thanks for the feedback
Q- Can we remove the extra sounds when plugging in, powering on or off?
I know it sounds petty but I have my phone w/me at work and every time I plug it in to charge it plays that "Charging enabled" voice over. Can this be shut off? I SO SO SO love this Rom so far!! I have flashed quite a few and this one is my favorite so far!
TIA for any ideas.

Hi there,
I have a Rogers Galaxy SGH-i727R. About three weeks ago, the phone started re-starting on it's own. I though maybe it was a sticky power key and had that replaced. The problem persisted. I then noticed that it was primarily upon receiving text messages that the phone would reboot. So it seemed it was a software issue. I am running the stable build of CM9.
Yesterday the phone rebooted and never got off the angry alien screen. I pulled the battery, charged it etc and still could not get it to fully boot up. I left it for over an hour. I finally decided to call it quits and re-flash the phone. Problem is, it will not boot into recovery at all. When I hold down Vol + - and Power, it jsut goes into a loop of vibrating every three seconds until I let go and then it tries a normal boot again. Once, I briefly got a screen saying I was trying to install custom software and to press volume up to do so, but before I could hit volume up, the phone cycled off.
I should also mention that the four buttons on the bottom of the screen do not work. I accidentally sliced the wires on the side of the phone when opening it up. I use a software button saver widget to access their functions. I wonder if that issue is related....
Thanks for any advice. I would like to get into recovery so I can load a new ROM or a stock ROM.
You're going to get blasted for posting this here....
That being said, your power button is borked, common on these phones. Happened to mine, but I was still under warranty so it was replaced.

Your point? I can't tell you how many times I've been sent "new" or "tested good" parts and they are DOA when installed. Or people who claim to have replaced or fixed a part but really didn't.

Hello folks,
I am a noob in playing around with Android, although I am a long time lurker here, never dared to post anything, just because I don't know even basics.
That said, my XT910 was driving me nuts and many a times I considered throwing it in trash, but having paid ~$400 hard cash, I did not. Lately, it crawled, rebooted randomly, hanging all of a sudden in the middle of the call was pretty commonplace. Factory reset did not help. The wi-fi connectivity issue has been there since day one. Where my another HTC One X connects like breeze and downloads whatever needed, XT910 still looks for any wi-fi connections.
I decided to root, hoping to tweak the device so that I can use it for at least another year or so. I followed the thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257137 Very good thread, pretty easy to understand. I did encounter few issues and thats where this post comes in.
While this post shows screenshots for remote storage, I never got this option, but I added it in. I never got an option to enter the details of the location i.e. image 4 and 5 of the post. Still everything seemed to work as expected.
Majority of the on-screen prompts went as expected, they were not same. Considering this post, image 2, there is a good difference in what I saw and what the screenshot mentioned. My screenshot attached below.
So the questions I have, whats in the red boxes.
The first big red box is not in the original screenshot, but I got it.
The last line of USB disconnect, I never got, neither my phone vibrated in the whole process as mentioned in big red box.
Since I am noob, I can not decipher this, and with posts less than 10, I can not post in that thread. I will be really thankful if someone expert can flash some light on this.
Is my phone really rooted now?
(P.S. - Don't ask me for phone screenshots, they never work on my phone, with power and volume down button pressed together.)
Thanks a lot in advance.

The large red box and the previous content are perfectly fine. There isn't no problem there. The exploits ran fine and the files were pushed to your device. Sometimes the phone doesn't vibrate and in that case my other phone didn't when the tool said it would. But it was rooted.
As you said your phone didn't vibrate but it did reboot right? I assume it did because you didn't mention it not being rebooted.
How do you know if your phones rooted? Go into your app drawer, and if you find an app called. "Superuser or SuperSU" its rooted. But just to be sure its working. Go to the play store, and install and app called "root checker" the icon has a hashtag in it from what I remember.
Run the app and check root. If it prompts you with a window saying vie permission. Grant the permission. And that's means you're rooted. Hopefully I helped. If I didn't answer your question properly please state.
Thanks

Thank you for your quick answer.
Little clarification,
The phone did not vibrate, but the prompt said, to hit any key on laptop to proceed. So I hit the key after waiting for about 2 minutes. And then it rebooted.
There is no Superuser app in app drawer and root checker tells me it is not rooted.

No, never, it just felt like phone was restarting. It took a while to restart compared to when I reboot otherwise, but there was no bootloader mode for sure.
