See this is a old thread, but for new people maybe add the definition of Aries, and what the common bugs are. I know you all don't get many new people over here, but my wife has this phone. I put 4.0 on but don't want to go further as the confusion with common bugs.

This, relatively speaking, is a fairly new thread:
Code:
24th July 2013, 02:14 AM (Last edited by bhundven; 13th September 2013 at 12:10 PM.) Reason: building cm10.2 on mac os x 10.8.x
Reading through the development threads is how you learn what those terms are and what the bugs are.
This is just a listing. EDIT: If a thread was made about aries and what bugs are current, I'd be happy to add it to the listing.
The hard part for users, understandably, is having to read.
I know it's hard, but it's part of how the forum works.
I don't mind reading, but even after a search and reading tons of comments I still have not found an answer. But thanks for responding anyways. Maybe once I get a solid answer I might just make that happen.

I'm saying, this thread is not an informational thread. If there is a thread on what aries is and what the bugs are, then I would link to it here.
Any contributors around feel like starting a thread?
Tracking the bugs is half the battle.
So far I know that: GPS and tvout are broken (tvout is my fault)
I know that we're all discussing moving /data to the sdcard.
Other things like that should go into that thread. Not here. Just sayin
I hate it when I suggest something, and end up doing it any way.
I'll start an informational thread in the general forum and link to it here.

Rom OP Format...DEVS READ PLEASE
Below is a format that should be used as an example of how a rom thread should look. It doesnt have to be exact. I suggest that you stay creative and use all the features in the advanced panel when creating a thread.
1. Name of rom, team, etc
2. Introduction
3. Changelog in code or php tags
4. What's included in the rom in the (apps, tweaks, scripts, addons, mods) in code of php tags
5. What works/what doesn't work in code or php tags
6. Credits (Users name-with link to (profile/github/or thread u got tweak from embedded), and what they did to help you)
7. Screenshots (2-10 different screenshots of different aspects of rom)
8. Kernel with either link to thread you got it from or github (if stock sense or cm please state that and that is enough)
9. Instructions on how to install the rom (also if special instruction for a2sd or beats audio...etc)
10. Do's and Don'ts of the rom
11. Questions & Answers section (I find this helpful to write out asked questions with solutions at the bottom of the op. I find that it cuts down on the question being asked a million times)
12. Finally the dl link
13. Additional add-ons (this can go into first post or reserved posts after)
I find the embedded link looks and feels better throughout the op if possible.
All sections should have a header with enlarged text and spaced out so people can read it easily.
I am hoping that this helps to make this section a little cleaner and easier. enjoy
The way I look at this is that it takes US weeks/days/hours to make these roms....we can take the time out to make sure that the op looks professional and clean
Also Make sure the op is fully ready before posting. I know we all get excited to release a rom but stating that half the stuff will be updated as time permits just shows that you are lazy and in a hurry which doesnt look good cause if thats the case then how does your rom run....
No posting a a rom thread without a DL link either

I feel this post is for me
I wrote very badly and even if google is good OS should recognize that doing bad translation
I find it hard to make myself understood and understand
I know you are good moderators
I'll make an effort but PLEASE consider my weakness
No worries, we want to try to help.
The Q&A section would be very helpful for first timers and others who find a similar problem. Would appreciate it if everyone could include that.
GALAXY 3 (I5800/I5801) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION, TROUBLESHOOTING, GENERAL HELP !!!
IF YOU ARE NEW TO XDA AND/OR TO THE DEVICE, OR NEED A GOOD PLACE TO START OFF WITH, OR WANT TO KNOW ABOUT SOME REALLY BASIC STUFF RELATED TO THE DEVICE, YOU MUST READ THE FOLLOWING POST(S). OTHERWISE, ASKING FOR HELP IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND OTHER SUB-FORA, WILL ONLY MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH AT YOU. MUST READ ON !!!
So, recently there has really been lots of mess created over the XDA forums due to careless behaviour of some newbies and disregarding of the rules and guidelines by many. So, as a part of the initaitive by the moderators, and contributors, this thread is being published.
FIRST THING FIRST, THIS IS ONLY FOR GALAXY 3 (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH GALAXY S3)!!
ANY OF THE STEPS FROM THE LINKED GUIDES/FORA, IF NOT FOLLOWED CORRECTLY MAY HARM/DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE, FOR WHICH THE XDA/DEVS/MEMBERS ARE NOT RESBONSIBLE IN ANY WAY.

Guidelines
Some general guidelines (not rulles!) to follow -
1. Dont post in the wrong forum. Any development thread goes to development section. Any stuff related to themes, apps, games, shares general mods etc, go to themes and apps section. Any query, obviously, shall go to q&a section. Rest go to general.
2. Searching is key to a happy life on XDA . Never post without searching. If you are sure that what you want is not there on WHOLE of XDA, then post it.
3. Refrain from making posts like "thank you dev/ great work man/ thank you/ good luck/ best wishes" in development threads. Keep the development threads as clean as possible.
4. Questions will not be entertained in the development thread.
5. ETA (Estimated time of arrival) will not be entertained in any development thread. Asking again and again will not make it better, but may make it worse.
6. If you post in threads without following the above guidelines, you are actually putting yourself and others in trouble.
7. Use the
Thanks button to thank the dev/member, dont write it as a post.
SOME BASIC STUFF RELATED TO GALAXY 3, WORTH KNOWING BEFORE DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR PHONE !!
ROOTING -
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEFINITION - Android rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's subsystem.
As Android was derived from the Linux kernel, rooting an Android device is similar in practice to accessing administrative permissions on Linux or any other Unix-like operating system such as FreeBSD or OSX.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROCESS - Android 2.1 (Eclair) - Use the app Z4Root from market
Android 2.2 (Froyo) - Link
Android 2.3/4.0/4.1/++ (Gingerbread/Ice cream sandwich/Jelly Bean) - No need, if you are on one of these, you are already rooted.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BUT WHY TO ROOT ?? - Link
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FLASHING -
1. STOCK ROMS can only be flashed via ODIN. For a guide on how to use ODING, head HERE
LINK : TO GUIDE ON HOW TO USE ODIN FOR FLASHING STOCK/CUSTOM ROMS/KERNELS !
2. CUSTOM ROMS can be flashed either via ODIN or via CWM Recovery (Once you have it - see 2nd post) depending on the type of the file provided by the dev. .tar files need ODIN. update.zip files can be flashed via CWM.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STOCK AND CUSTOM ROMS -
For any stock ROM (2.1/2.2) go to LINK

RECOVERIES :
1. BOOT MENU MANAGER ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.projectlense.bootmenu.manager&hl=en[/ ) aka BMM
2. CWM TOUCH ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686598&highlight=cwm)
[ As most of the new ROM's are all BMM compatible it is advised to use it instead of CWM ]
A detailed guide on BMM and how to use it is given here for MULTI Booting ROM's ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115715 )
CUSTOM KERNEL's :
1. [KERNEL][3.0.31][HDMI][FULL HD][GUIDE 1.8]JBX-Kernel Hybrid [1,5ghz]
[ @dtrail1 Rulzzz ]
This kernel is in a .zip format and can be directly flashed via BMM
These give you direct access to your CPU and Over clocking features
[ Note the 0.8xx kernels are for 4.2.2 and below and 1.x for 4.3 for Kit-Kat 2.0 & 3.0 onwards]
I will keep adding all the remaining ROM's to this thread and plzz feel free to post any new ones so that i can add them to the list....
IT WAS HIGH TIME SOMEONE MADE AN INDEX OF THE AVAILABLE ROM'S FOR OUR BELOVED A2
ENJOY !!!!!
DON'T FORGET TO CLICK ON THE THANKS BUTTON IF THIS HELPED YOU XD
Hi
This thread is for all you people new to the atrix 2
it is a simple way to view all that we have in store for customizing the a2.......:d
The problem with this kind of thread is that it is rare that the people that need it spelled out for them like this won't bother taking the time to read them. Good effort though.
u have missed something in OP .... u forgot to put CM10 on list ....
as i know..., we will got the official one soon...
btw ..., nice thread for noob ... :good:
I put up this thread to help all those noobs who keep posting what should i do which ROM should i download my Ctd.bin file error when i flash RSD
this is to simplify it for all of them
And i noticed our A2 doesnt have a list of ROM's and an index page so i think it will be useful to everyone
as it covers a wide range of problems
Although its a WIP ill keep adding more tips and other ROM's it will be easier to access all the links in one page rather than searching
all the forums for the correct one......
Just a thread to Help everyone and show our appreciation to the DEV's who made it all happen....

All the ppl on the apex noob q&a thread keep asking the same questions and dont bother even searching the forums
This thread will answer most of their problems and decrease the amount of noob posts regarding the same problem over and over again
Just post this thread whenever they ask something that way they can see all the issues in one place and get all their issues solved.

Or simply tell them to read over the development section. This forum has always had a problem with repetitive questions. Encouraging others to read and educate themselves can help to resolve some (but not all) of that. I'm not saying that you were wrong in posting this thread, just don't be surprised or discouraged when it inevitably gets ignored by those who would benefit the most from it.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

Make sure that it is not capitalized. If you want to see the exact name that the system is looking for then open the zip, find the file named desc.txt and open it in a text editor/viewer. You'll see a line that looks like:
s droidhd.ogg
The "s" means that the animation will use a sound and what follows is what the name of the sound is. Then just make sure that the bootanimation.zip and the audio file are both in /system/media with the correct permissions, etc.
As far as getting it running on jb. I haven't found anything that seems to work. From what I've read, it seems as though it might have to be supported by the ROM and/or kernel. But I'm not positive of that.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

There is nothing like the perfect ROM its the dev's who put in the hardwork to make it possible
So please don't say this is the perfect ROM etc...
Each ROM is unique in its own way and everyone has their own perfect ROM that suits them........
So keep flashing all the amazing ROM's we have and choose what best suits your needs......:silly:
This is probably a dumb question, and I'm sure there's a thread about it that I couldn't find, but to install a custom kernel would you just go into BMM recovery and install zip like with the ROM, GApps, etc.? And if so, any extra steps to take to install it without having to like reflash the ROM and losing all my ****?

I started this thread hoping to help out newer Infuse users to find their unlock codes.
I noted that many new users are looking at the old threads and not reading thru to get to the easier method found later in the thread.
