Does anyone know if it's possible to tell when you are calling a mobile that's currently in another country? It would be nice to avoid the network charges when calling someone who frequently leaves the country. I'm just not sure how you are supposed to tell that the person you are calling is in another country when the country code doesn't change...
The person you're calling just shouldn't answer if he's in another country. I don't think it's possible to check it before you're calling.

You shouldn't get charged any extra for calling someone who's travelling abroad (they get charged for recieving the call) if you're from the EU.
If you're outside the EU and your carrier charges you then that's bang out of order and I'd be looking for an alternative carrier!
Hi, hoping someone can provide some advice on this, been trawling forums and no one seems to have quite the same issue...
I purchased a HTC Desire from someone who had unlocked it from the Virgin network. Had my Vodafone SIM working in there without any problems whatsoever for several weeks.
One night, under heavy use (video streaming etc) the phone crashed, and since then there has been no GSM signal, only 3G. Other SIM cards had the same issue.
At first figured it was a problem with the hardware, so sent it to HTC, but they just sent it back saying 'no fault found'.
Then I figured I'd try a Virgin SIM in it in case it had become 'partially locked' again - though didn't really think such an issue was possible, and bingo - this appeared to work - even in GSM only mode it can make calls.
So I guess I have a few questions:
If I take this somewhere to have it unlocked again, are they actually going to be able to do anything with it? It's not asking for a code, it just doesn't find any GSM signal...
Anyone else have this no 2G but 3G ok issue? Can a crash affect a phone in this way?!
Does it sound like something I can solve myself? I'm loathed to do anything too drastic as it is still under warranty.
If it helps I checked out the simlock menu and it is saying:
MCCMNC file fail
CID file fail
Which I presume has something to do with it...
I am currently living in Egypt and my dad got me the HTC one m8 as a present from the states. Its the Verizon unlocked version but the problem is I cant seem to update it because it keeps asking for the CDMA mode only"!!! sooo annoying and the type of service I'm using here is GSM/UMTS. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
another problem is I cant use hotspot because I dont have Verizon Sim :S:S any solution for that too ?
Hey
I have a problem where when someone calls me, sometimes it works fine, and others goes straight to voicemail.
I suspect this has to do with the bands it is selecting, or the lack of VoLTE.
I have the Taiwan Version and using this on Virgin in Canada.
Is there a network setting that might fix this?
Thanks
I have this exact same problem on Koodo. Have you managed to find any solutions?
Very frustrated with Unlocked (USA) S22 Ultra. Somewhat frequently but intermittently my phone is unable to make a call. When I try to make the call it just ends immediately - and of note this is in full cellular service (4g or 5G) and also even if WiFi is on and the call is being attempted on WiFi calling. So it's not just a cellular network problem. The problem is reminiscent of back in the day when I would flash a custom ROM and the call features or CSC was messed up.
I believe a similar issue is that often I will get a text from my daughter (who the heck knows how many business calls I missed) - she says that she has tried to call all day and the call just ends immediately and won't ring through to me.
Looks like there are many complaints out there on the internet -- I am looking for a fix hopefully form someone int his community. I wonder if flashing ATT firmware on my unlocked phone would help??
Another problem is that sometimes (definitely intermittently) I am unable to activate the Speakerphone. Pushing the button highlights the Speakerphone indicator BUT the sound is still through the headset - not the speakerphone. Thoughts?
are you on June update? The latest june update seems to have fixed some of the GSM issue so maybe that would resolve your problem.

Never ever had this problem (ATT - locked, 12/512 SD). if nothing else you may want to try to take to ATT for re-provisioning (I assume ATT may be who you are trying to use)

West Virginia explains a lot! I am in South Carolina now but grew up in Pittsburgh so I drive thru West Virginia alot on 79 and not surprised about cell reception.
I've had this happen a few times with an Unlocked version on ATT. I'll try to make a call and it will just immediately end. A reboot fixes it, but if someone was trying to call me I would have no idea.
Have you tried clearing the dialers cache and data?
What about a third party app like googles dialer?
I had the same issue on my s21 ultra and went thru various fixed ( reprovision, changed sim, manufacture reset ..etc). I bought unlocked S22 ultra direct from Samsung and same issue. I have my work # on using physical sim and personal # esim. "when I try to make the call it just ends immediately - and of note this is in full cellular service (4g or 5G).." same issue around 10 times in the last 6 months. It happened on both physical sim and esim. The person who called either number went to voicemail and texting was fine. When I tried to call used either number and it will end right away. when it happened I would reboot and wipe cache partition. I haven't received June update yet and hopefully, that fixes it. I am also unable to send MMS on secondary # but SMS is fine.
