Hello all,
It looks like a Verizon Galaxy S3 is in my future. I am currently on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, running MMuzzy 4.2.2. I am really enjoying the stock experience. I have looked at a few through the forums here, but most I find are themed etc. Does anyone have any ROM recommendations that are as close to stock as possible? Any advice would be welcomed.

This belongs in Q&A. Anyways, I'd recommend bonestock, clean rom, or synergy. All are good choices.
EDIT: Sorry, you mentioned you were enjoying stock so those are stock-like recommendations.. My bad. Personally, my two AOSP favorites are Eclipse rom (very stable, blacked out, good on battery) and Carbon (smooth, feature rich, very customizable, very few if any bugs).

the thread is called AOSP recommendations . all of the roms you mentioned are touchwiz.
i currently run carbon rom. there are nightlies. it is for the most part, flawless. I guess it kind of depends on what features you use ..(halo,pie, etc) there are quite a few aosp roms to choose from, im sure thats why you are asking. in my experience, carbon and slim bean seem to have the best battery life, with the most features to offer. let us know what you decide and how it works for you . !
edit: after checking out the rom you are running, i kind of understand what you mean. Pure AOSP without a CM base. i searched for the same kind of thing when i first got this phone. unfortunately, it seems that all AOSP roms we have are built on cm. i would love to see a rom like mmuzzy for this phone. seems really cool.
Since you say you're looking at AOSP, I'd advise you try LiquidSmooth.
CleanROM and others are great TW stock ROMs, but not AOSP.

I would love to see MMuzzy ROM on this phone.
I would build a ROM from googles source code but I'm not a dev and dont really know much about source codes. It can't be any harder than building from CM sources or any other custom ROM should it?

Hey guys! Just got my gs3 as a replacement for my galaxy nexus . I would like some general tips about the device as well as a recommendation on a ROM. Ideally something that is super stable , good battery life, and doesn't conflict with WiFi tether . thanks in advance !

Thanks! What about something that's AOSP based? Not sure I like TW.
There are quite a few different ROM's out there, you'd just have to look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1672
CleamROM is the only one I've used and probably will ever use. It's super stable and debloated that's all I really need. SynergyROM is a real popular one because it has Multiwindows but I don't really care about that right now & it seems to have some bugs. You just really need to check out all the ROM's and ask questions in those particular threads.

For AOSP ROMs, check here. I'd recommend AOKP, CM10.1, or ParanoidAndroid. But generally I prefer Touchwiz ROMs like Synergy or CleanROM because I encountered a ton of bugs on both AOKP and CM10.1.

Thanks! I guess I'm looking for a relatively bug free experience I'd avoid AOKO/CM. Just out of curiosity are they serious bugs or minor ones?
The only bad thing about AOSP ROMS I'd the fact that all the "cool" features of our phone can't be utilized. Things like the motion actions, WiFi direct, all share, just to name a few. There are more. That's the biggest reason I haven't flashed AOSP stuff. I bought the phone, for full price, to get these Touchwiz features. Just my opinion.

There are soo many best Rom threads. Read them and hear what others have To say. Or just go flash happy, everyone has their preference. Not wanting To be a troll either, but seriously there is a lot to choose from and it depends on 1. Do you like TW or AOSP... Then 2. Which mods you want. And 3. Your preference on what works best on your phobe

Give Hyperdrive a run. Very fast. Lots of options. Very stable.
Release 10 has had more issues, but it's also the most up-to-date TW option w/4.1.2. Release 9 is rock solid and uses the 4.1.1 base.
Android 4.2 has really ruined my crackflashing habit because it's so friggen awesome. IMO go for the gold and don't bother with touchwiz roms. Baked beans and Jedi are solid rom's to start with, as others are playing with the 3.4 kernel which hasn't matured quite yet.
I just got my s3 yesterday and this is my first samsung devices, but I'm not new to android. Now I know that I could do my own research, but I'm hoping for some advice/info from those willing to share. I'm already rooted with an unlocked boot loader, so now I'm looking for a ROM. What's your favorite ROM/kernel combination for speed and stability, if you're OC'd, what app do you use (i.e. kernel tuner), and what in particular do you like about that ROM?
Also, any general info about the s3 that I should know would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
please do a search and read through the threads. there are guides with impressions all over the place.
everyone needs something different out of their rom so there is nobody who can answer this question except for you.
make sure youre rooted, and your bootloader is unlocked.

Instead of giving you the same run-of-the-mill find yourself answer here's my opinion. If you're into aosp ROMs liquid smooth, aokp and paranoid seem to be the best. Me personal e, I like TouchWiz just because they seem to have the least amount of bugs. Jelly beans, axis and hyperdrive have the most customizing options, but the general consensus for stability and performance is clean rom. Jelly beans is TouchWiz with an aosp look. But clean rom is definitely the most stable. As far as kernels go the big two are kt 747 and lean kernel. You can't really go wrong with either one. 747 has a higher overclocking rate and a application to tweak the settings provided with it. Leankernel is set straight out the box and use an aftermarket CPU Tweaker of your choice to tune it. Hope this helps.

1. These threads tend to get shut down a lot since a lot of new S3 users keep posting them.
2 . You are going to get either the "find it yourself " response or be recommended the popular ROMs which are Jelly Beans, Cleanrom, Liquid Smooth, AOKP, Carbon, Axis and Paranoid Android which is okay as long as it is what you want.
3. AOSP 4.2 ROMs don't have a strong signal strength like Touchwiz.
The reality is that there are a lot more ROMs then the standard fare that keeps getting recommended for both TW and AOSP. There is Plasma, Hellsrom, MDOB , Sons Of Android, Pure Google, Xtremeperia, and so much more that I can't think of them now. My question to you is what do you want in a ROM? The reason I asked this question is I find A LOT more helpful to make recommendations based on your interest rather randomly saying "[insert popular ROM here] is awesome!".

I agree with Shaftamle... I downloaded Hero's AxisM rls18 this morning and been using/playing with rom. It is beast. Hyperdrive is another good one. There is also Plasma VIII and Synergy, also very good. My best experience with kernels is lean kernel, but I am trying Zeus' newest version. Seems to be working well and good battery life.
I wish there was an update for Verizon's Wicked Sensations... I used v2.0-F for a long time and loved it.

Personally I've had my run of the mill with CleanROM releases, Synergy, and Liquid myself. Mostly using the stock kernal or K747. But I've been quite fond lately and been going back and forth on Sbreen's Hyperdrive releases dating back to RLS5. Granted his RLS10 may be a little premature with the manual MMS fix you have to do, its a little power hungry this time around, but definitely gives us a nice look and speedy feel from the upcoming S4. Currently running Hyperdrive RLS11 with his built Zeus kernal. :good:

It's not that they're unstable, they aren't (most, anyway), but they don't fully support the GS3's hardware capabilities.

Let me start by appoligizing, I am a newbie to ROM's etc. I did a search but all results I was getting were 2+ yrs old. I want a Nexus phone, althought tied to verizon, due to company! I am looking for a way to get that total vanilla experience on a verizon galaxy s3. I have looked at the super nexus 2.0 rom but doesn't seem to be compatible with verizon, unless I am missing something. I am looking for a Vanilla ROM, in which everything works, phone, camera etc...
Can anyone direct me to a rom that might fit this bill? Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry if this has already been discussed to death, but a search revealed 2011 era posts.

Check out the ROMs in the original android development section here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1692
You're most likely going to want to look at CM 10.1 or the Pure Google AOSP ROM
I'm a fan of AOKP, which provides a great vanilla experience with some extra options. I like the options better than CyanogenMod.

Welcome to the forum. I suggest you read the stickies in the root section and then root your phone.
For AOSP rom I can recommend both SlimBeans and LiquidSmooth as well.
You will find all the AOSP roms are very very similar of course, some are more later or stable but it can depend a lot on the kernel and your phone.

I tried LiquidSmooth and liked it a lot. I wasn't able to get GPS working so I switched to AOKP.
Does anyone know of a website or youtube channel that does reviews for the S3 ROM for Verizon? I hate downloading buggy ROMs so it would save me some headaches.

ROM thread? You mean the section with all the ROMS in it that has Stars next to the thread title? I've been in that thread and it doesn't seem like a well organized place to find something stable. The information is there, but just not well organized.
You won't know if the Rom works for your phone until you tried them. If you can't find a Rom that works well on your phone then I suggest going back to stock. The reason I am saying this is because not everyone here have the same experience with the same Rom.

Id like to help you find a ROM that you like. This phone is so much better running it the way you'd like it to. Are you trying to run a stock based TouchWiz ROM or AOSP? This is very important as not many AOSP ROMs are completely stable. TouchWiz stock based ROMs however are very stable. I would like to suggest my ROM made off of the official ROM for our phones. It offers many very nice features which you can either choose or not choose to use with the Aroma installer. It's the forth release of the ROM so all the bugs have been fixed and the ROM is fast and stable. Please check out the thread to the ROM and read through it and see if you fund it worth trying. The thread offers a lot of good information about exactly what you will find in the ROM.

Thanks man, you are so kind! The only ROM i have ever used is Synergyrom and the last few updates I did with Synergyrom had some bugs in it. I haven't tried the very last patch though. One update gave my bluetooth phone static. This last ROM i am using from Synergy makes Dolphin crash but I'm not sure if it's due to the ROM. My google maps also isn't working either. It works but it only tells me to turn left or right but never gives me the name of the street that I want to turn on.
Anyway, all I really need from the ROM is something that allows Nova Launcher to work, Bluetooth without static, Dolphin without crashing, Google Maps to work by giving me streets names when it talks to me, and the ability to use Amazon Video on Demand. The Amazon thing might be a long shot though but that would be really awesome! I don't play any games on my phone, mainly use it for music and watching movies from youtube or whatever I download. Amazon on demand would be great though!
Edit: One more thing I forgot to add! They keyboard needs to be 1 handed operational. I forgot what it's called but I currently have it on my phone, the keyboard is smaller and moved more to the right so I can operate it with one hand. I also don't know what AOSP is so I really don't need that.
