thats what i mean
so

The Sensation has 4gB memory, with 1gB "user accessible". The 3gB is used for the OS, cache and more.
I would not be bothered by this. Put a 32gB or 64gB card in and be happy.
I will be getting the Sandisk 64gB class 10 micro SDXC card for mine, but I will confirm it works in the Sensation first.

ok yes but But this is not a solution

my device is being slow down
When I start to transfer applications to SD
The question of why we can not increase the size of the internal memory???
For example 2GB for OS and 2GB for user
Thank you very much

Do you require heaps and heaps of apps or big games? Do you need more space for apps than you can fit on the internal memory?
I have loaded plenty of apps and haven't ran out of space yet. I don't know how much space I have left because I am running Revelation ROM and it doesn't yet say how much space is available.
What is your SD card inc. class? If its a slow card your apps will of course load slowly.

Memory card came with the device a Genuine ... 8gb ... size and free space is currently 250mb of internal memory

Hi,
Do a memory card benchmark to find out how much your read/write speed is, that's almost the class of your sd card... If you have the stock sd, it is class 6 if I'm not wrong.

Not only one, for example antutu benchmark does, or androbench maybe. The second one is more specialized into sd cards, but I don't have a good memory of the results it used to tell me, you know they were out of it somewhat... But they probably answered in that way to ME ONLY, don't know actually. don't even know why.

Androbench apparently is giving strange scores like mine then... Apparently you have a class 4 sd card (so do i) ... Then in my opinion it is not good at all... Buy a class 10 for example.

i changed mine also to class 10 sdcard and i saw big difference

Hmmm OK so my suspicion may be on the money. I will run these tests on my Sensation with my Sandisk 32gB class 10 and post for you.

Ok so it turns out that both of my cards, a Sandisk 16gB and 32gB, are class 4, not class 10 as I first thought. So we need some class 10 max speeds. However my results are still useful to compare with to see if your Sensation is reading and writing to your class 4 as quick as mine.
I ran 20 AnTuTu benchmarks and saw that the results varied significantly, presumably due to other apps taking CPU time or SD i/o. Here is the best result of 4.8/18.0.
Sandisk 16gB class 4;
4.5/17.8

Both cards were approximately 3/4 full.
If you boot fresh, let your Sensation sit for a few minutes, load AnTuTu and run 5-10 SD card benchmarks on a class 4 card, you should expect to hit 17 or 18MB/s read speed. It's the law of large numbers; we need to run many tests to get meaningful numbers.
How these numbers actually translate in practice of loading apps, I don't know.
I haven't needed to install any apps to a card yet.

Well, you said that the results varied significantly and has developed major outcome of your memory cards .....
My memory card results always fixed and not varying, this means stability in performance
And frankly I'm not confident in software testing because the results often can not be fixed
But as a result of constant memory card
Thank you for your efforts
Well
When the application was transferred to the memory card device started slow but when readied transfer applications to the internal memory has returned the device to speed
......
I have other intervention
How can I transfer a single file size 5GB
Memory card to FAT32

[Q] So is it true that the Sensation has 4gb storage

So on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Sensation
it says: Storage 4 GB (1 GB user accessible)
so if this is true do you think it is possible to unlock the extra memory?
and why does the phone need 3 GB memory in the first place
It's actually 3gb that could be usable for apps etc, the rest is for virtual ram/graphics ram
But yes, 4 total, just not all of it is available atm

are there any dev's out there working on a way to unlock this extra storage?

Play hd games

Hi sir's good day, I cannot play hd games on my phone. It says i need X ammount of space to play the game, what does it mean by that space for phone or space for sd card? Thank yoy
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Well how much space do you have available on phone and SD?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Well i think there are 2 possibilities :
1. The game needs a certain amount of RAM and the phone has it all blocked with something else.
2. The game needs a certain space on the internal memory in order to run.
I don't thinks it's an issue with the SD card.
You can try again after cleaning some internal space, or after closing some apps in order to free more RAM.
What ROM are you using? Sense or AOSP?
Thanks

Anyway to get more ram on sensation? ?

I had nexus s before sensation I know realize that free ram on sensation is about 120~140mb on average which is even lesser than nexus s. So it would be good idea to get more ram from camera or such as what have been done in nexus s kernel. Is this difficult to do so??

Install non-sense rom and you will get 100% more free ram.
Sense is ram killer.
Nexus s is runing pure android, thats the point.
I meant is there a dev working on the kernel to get extra ram from camera or such just like wat devs have done in nexus s lol since the sensation can only use 581mb and I didn't buy a sensation to use sense less rom

There won't be a kernel that "gets extra ram from camera". It's not needed. Also, free ram is wasted ram, plus when you open an app that needs more than 140mB, the os will close some apps until it has enough space.

Not sure why people think that more ram mean faster boot if there is ram it boot if not it has to close it clear ram then open it so more ram faster just like a pc
Sent from my Sensation 4G using xda premium
So wrong. So, horribly, wrong. Android keeps enough ram free to launch an application or two (a massive application or two) without having to close anything. You have 120MB free on average? That's plenty to launch the browser, music app, gallery, and about 4 other things before Android has to close anything at all. Free ram is wasted ram.
That "like a PC" part is also wrong. You should always have enough ram to run whatever it is you're running. If you don't have enough, you simply add more to accommodate. The only way you're really going to become faster with ram is to install faster ram (you also have to remove the slower ram because PCs run on the slowest speed available).
What I'm trying to say is that when I play a game such as drow something I sometimes click home button to go web to find out what it looks like. However, when I go back to the game, it was closed most of times. That's why I asked. Nexus s uses 402~3 ram out of 512(not sure) atm.

Maybe you can try kernel with ZRAM capability, faux123 has a good explanation on ZRAM in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216197:
ZRAM allows real-time compression of memory objects in RAM thus reducing memory pressure for the Linux kernel and can keep more apps in memory longer (more apps in RAM == better performance, less fetching from slower MMC or SDCard). Compression, however, is not Free. Some CPU cycles are required to do the compress/decompression, so there's a slight penalty for it. The original CompCache / RAMZSwap required a user space binary to control its behavior which adds additional penalty to performance, but the new version ZRAM eliminated the need for a separate dedicated daemon, thus reducing the overhead and increased performance from the old CompCache by 20%. Therefore, with the newer implementation of ZRAM interface, the performance penalty is almost negligible.
faux kernel and Bricked kernel support ZRAM capability.
Hope it helps.

Agreed. I can trim about 200MBs off Sense using Titanium Backup. Roughly 70 to 80 applications can be removed without issue. Things like HTC's GPS application (there's like 4 components), Friendstream, pre-installed Facebook garbage, Low Storage Wizard, both Sense and AOSP Setup Wizards, half of the Sense widgets, HTC Watch + widget, HTC Hub, HTC Likes, etc etc.

I own a class 6 sd card and i was just wondering how much performance boost can i get with a class 10 ...it is worth the money ?
Yes the sd class 10 are faster all other !!! I made the experience
So i should buy then ?
From my experience,
Earlier my nandroid backups used to take 15 20 minutes with class 4 card..
Now, with my class 10 card, it just takes 2 3 minutes..

thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!
All it will do is speed up read and write speed.
If this will have any impact on your apps or not depends on what they are and if they're reading and writing constantly.
Sure, it will speed up a backup where you have to write a huge amount of information - but it won't speed up things that are working primarily from RAM and relying on that and processor speed for how "fast" they go.

I only run everything with class 10 Cards. I Can transfer 1gb in about 20-30 Seconds.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
yes, yes, yes
thats the way
The Class of SD card you use relates to the sequential transfer rate supported by the card. A Class 10 card can write at a theoretical max of 10MB/second.
High sequential rates are good for copying lots of big files, like movies or a music collection.
In order to get these high rates, manufacturers sacrifice random read and write performance. Random performance is very important if you are running Apps2SD or similar, as apps etc. provide a random workload.
If you don't want to wait for your movies to transfer across to your phone, go for the highest class you can. If you're running Apps or loading the Gallery from your SD card, random performance is far more important to you.
Bigger numbers are not always better
Happy transfers guys, hope this clears it up a bit for you
Justin
You are awesome and I love you.
Didn't know there was a trade-off.
In that case I'm very happy to have a slow integrated card and a fast external, perfect setup.

Thanks for info , deserves a try
Its nt good as its the low as the new ultra class has been up,
Which has faster performance in coping,
Best foe the phone who swaps their internal and external sd.

Storage expansion

Hi guys am back with another noob question my question is about Storage capacity of my one S. It is showing only 10gb available memory where as my brother has HTC butterfly which also has 16 gb inbuilt but shows 11.6 gb available. Can anyone tell me whether we also can expand our storage to 11.5 gb like that of butterfly? Is there a solution to storage constraint. Any one gb or more extra space will be a lot of help. Thanks in advance
